A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. Ways to improve 2022 Ontario Tankard edit

Hello, Earl Andrew,

Thank you for creating 2022 Ontario Tankard.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Consider that the name of this page is incorrect and should refer to Women's Curling Championship for Southern Ontario - or similar. The sponsor's name is not the correct name for an encyclopaedia - which is what Wikipedia is...

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

The Ontario Tankard is most definitely a men's tournament. I think the issue you're having is with a typo, which I have fixed.-- Earl Andrew - talk 15:26, 22 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

The article List of prime ministers of Canada by date and place of birth has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication that this is a notable subject.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Colours - Current CPC Leadership edit

Hi Earl Andrew. I noticed your comment on candidate colours on the 2017 Conservative Party of Canada leadership election. There is a discussion happening on the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada leadership election talk page. Charles III edit

You have moved the article Charles III to Charles III (disambiguation) even though the previous move had been reverted, so it was clearly a controversial move. Going forward, please create a move request for controversial moves. Vpab15 (talk) 20:48, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wheel-warring edit

Hi Earl Andrew,

As moving a fully move-protected page requires admin privileges, doing so is an admin action. Because of this, I believe your repeated reimplementation's of reverted moves at Charles III constitute a WP:WHEEL violation; specifically, your reversal of Amakuru's reversal of The Land's move, and your reversal of Timrollpickering's reversal of your first reversal. There also appears to be some level of WP:INVOLVED here, with you acting as an administrator in a dispute that you have a personal opinion on.

If this is accurate I think the most appropriate way to proceed would be for you to commit to not reimplement reverted admin actions without discussion, and to not use your tools in disputes that you are involved in? BilledMammal (talk) 08:12, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Looking further, it appears this isn't the only recent example of you using your tools in a problematic way. For example, at 2022 Windsor municipal election you got into an edit war with an IP user, with you disagreeing about whether "Matthew Giancola" should be listed. This wasn't a situation where the exceptions to WP:INVOLVED would apply, but you used you admin tools anyway, blocking the editor for violating WP:3RR - although their maximum number of reverts in 24 hours was three, which happened to match the number of reverts you did in 24 hours.
A similar thing happened at Dean Gemmell; you blocked Lovetocurl for vandalism, after they added unsourced information saying that he had four kids and a wife. This information was unsourced, but it also appears to be correct as his personal website confirms that he has four children. While it is a BLP, and we shouldn't be adding unsourced information to it even if correct, doing so isn't vandalism and you should not have blocked them. BilledMammal (talk) 08:49, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello, my apologies for this. I did not believe my actions to be controversial in any of these cases, but anyway I promise to commit to not reimplement reverted admin actions without discussion, and to not use tools in disputes that I am involved in. Thanks! -- Earl Andrew - talk 13:09, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Polling in Brampton edit

Hello! I'm on the fence about whether the Mainstreet polling for Brampton can be cited. Bramptonist articles before 2020 can be considered moderately reliable sources, but around the start of the pandemic it was purchased by unknown individuals who have turned it into a soapbox. No other outlet has quoted these results, including QP Briefing, and they've provided no PDF. Thoughts? -- Zanimum (talk) 12:45, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Zanimum: Interesting. The poll was mentioned by the Polling Canada Twitter account, so I quickly looked for a source to include it. I don't dispute the poll was actually conducted, but you're probably best positioned to judge the reliability of the source.-- Earl Andrew - talk 12:57, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
