For those curious, this was given to me when I reverted vandalism at Marriage and Tawkerbot2 reverted it back. I'll let User:Tawker and/or User:Joshbuddy know about the error. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 01:46, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello EWS23, how are you? Thanks for your support in my RFA. The final vote count was (88/3/1), so I am now an administrator. I am very humbled by your vote and grateful. Please let me know if at any stage you require assistance, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an administrator. Thank you Mario edit

I just wanted to ask why you consider the quote notable. While it is a well-known quote among the gaming industry, it's a quote from one game that just got popular. However, it never was anywhere near the popularity of AYB. - A Link to the Past (talk) 09:24, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would not even call Thank You Mario half as notable as AYB. Thank You Mario is just one of those classic quotes from classic games, like the Psychomantis quote. - A Link to the Past (talk) 20:15, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Admin Coaching edit

Well, I mentioned a few things at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza#Outreach for Admin coaching? that are behind me holding promotions a little bit, but mostly I don't want to overload the coaches. True, I haven't looked at the page for a couple of days, but I'm on a WikiBreak until at least next week, so feel free to make a few assignments while I'm out. Overall, I do need a bit of help, but mostly, I need more coaches. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 03:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd say it's going great so far, Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Pschemp :D. I'm moving in a couple of weeks so I won't be able to take on any new user's for a few weeks, as I have a very busy schedule in real life for the next month or two. After I'm settled in my new state and home I'm sure I'll be taking on a couple of new users who want guidance. KnowledgeOfSelf 05:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Olympic Games edit

I am going to be taking a short Wikibreak soon, so I won't be able to help you, but I do think you're right. It's really one sided, so it needs views from both the gold-count side and the total-count side. Frankly, though, I don't think that this is the place to put the paragraph: it really has nothing to do with the athletes, but with the country itself, so I wouldn't know where to put that. Secondly, there is no real "winner" of the Olympics. I think it is explained superficially in the paragraph, but it needs to be explained more. I suggest that you rewrite it so that it opens by explaining that the IOC does not announce a winner (because medal counts are not supported). Then you should say that if and is announced by some top news broadcasters, they either use the gold-count method or the total-count one. I hope this helped! J@red  11:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

re:Admin Coaching edit

Well, neither one of them have come to me with anything, and I haven't really talked to either in a while, so I guess they're all finished. While I removed my name from the Esperanza members list, and the green e from my sig, I'd still be willing to take on some more coachees. Both of my previous were (if I recall correctly), shared with others, and I'd be happy to help out again. One thing that interests me, however, is why we call it "Admin Coaching", rather than something else? Is the point that it's admins who are coaching new users who want to become admins? Why not allow any experienced user, admin or not, to chip in? I can see how this is more personal than a help board, but it's not like resources aren't in place... In any event, if you'd like to assign another, feel free, and I'll welcome them with open arms. All the best, Mysekurity [m!] 14:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2 edit

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

point grey changes edit

Alright I know I made stupid changes to Point Grey's entry but it's only for fun. Nobody actually looks at the page for any real information as there is very few posted there. In fact, the only people who have probaly looked at it in the recent times would be me and a friend that I told. I ask you to make an exception in this case. I'm not using any bad words or anything... I'm just trying to have fun at a distance. See, Point Grey was my school for a long time before I had to move down to Texas. So anyways, I was jsut trying to have soem fun so please reconsider. Or at least permit the changes I made that were OK. Such as the new astroturf which was built and the School's Drama Dept. website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.96.143.242 (talkcontribs)

I'm sorry, but no exceptions can be made. This is an encyclopedia, and we have standards for each and every page, no matter how minor. Adming Coaching edit

I left this message on Titox's talk page but I guess I'll get a response here.

Hey Titox, hope you're doing well. I was wondering about the progress of the Admin Coaching program since I haven't received any info, I know I signed up a fortnight ago but it feels muuuuch longer! :P I'm not needing a coach right now, but I'm going through a rough patch at present. And if you can have a minor say, could Celestianpower coach me? He's been helping me a lot with the FA and we're friends already if that would make things any easier (I'd probably be done quicker with him). Thanks for reading this and good luck in the election! :) Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:58, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately the backlog on admin coaching is quite large. The problem is that we have at least twice as many requests as we have coaches, which is opposite of the ratio we would like (or at least a 1-to-1 ratio). I did a "roll call" of admin coaches only 10 days ago to see who could take on another coachee, and we were able to assign coaches to about 4 users. We certainly don't want to overload coaches. As for your request for a particular coach, I might recommend that you talk to Celestianpower and maybe set up some "unofficial" admin coaching if he's willing to do so. Thanks for your message, and let me know if I can do anything else. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 21:29, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yet another admin coaching header edit

Are you still acting coordinator for the admin coaching? If so I thought I'd better let you know that I've successfully completed mine (as I'm now an admin). I've also signed up to become a coach- even though I'm very new as an admin I can still provide plenty of advice on things like RC patrol, deletion policy, RfA etc. I am willing to start coaching someone asap (as there is great demand at the moment). Would be best to partner me with an 'older' (in Wikiyears) admin to provide a balanced coaching team. The end of my coaching also means Academic Challenger and Academic Challenger are free (though I obviously can't speak for them about whether or not they want to take on anyone new, that would have to be checked).

Let me know what you think. Petros471 18:08, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome edit

Hi Eric, Thanks for the positive feedback on my Spurs info. I was not aware of the NBA Wikiproject. I have been contributing to the NBA 2006 Playoffs page. It became somewhat addictive. If you liked the player-position chart, feel free to mention it in that project. I would feel a little ackward arriving and saying, "hey, I'm new and look what I've done. do you want to copy it." But I would feel honored if someone else would promote it. I found it worth developing that chart as I have not seen anything comparable on nba.com, espn.com or anywhere else (though they could exist without my knowing of them). I could not do that chart for any other team, but could make that Spurs chart with just one stats check (to be sure Nazr and Rasho were getting similar minutes). If the chart is replicated for other teams, I would be interested in learning from their formatting. I'm a newbie at CSS (an old hand at html tag soup) and so it is not well formatted. Divine edit

The bold move to move the dab page and redirect to Divinity is probably good in most cases; however, the reason that it was a dab page was that there are other uses of "Divine". If I search for "Divine" meaning the drag queen, the note at the top of "Divinity" would probably help to find the right thing. My main concern is in pages that used to link to "Divine" meaning Divine (Glen Milstead) now go to Divinity (for example Didier Lestrade). There is a similar set of links that should probably go to Anglican terminology (like James Edward Cowell Welldon). A cleanup of links to the dab page was probably in order before executing the redirection. The dab problem does not go away; it is just hidden now. I don't have time to review them now, but maybe I will later in the week. Thanks. Dpv 04:38, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your quick response. Let me know if you want help reviewing the links. Otherwise, I'll leave you to it. Dpv 04:49, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Admin coaching edit

Thanks for the inquiry, Eric. I did enjoy working with Petros and am glad to see him an administrator. I am considering continuing in the program, but I do feel that that perhaps its direction should be clarified. The introduction at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Programs/Admin coaching suggests that the purpose of the program is to have an experienced editor one can go to with questions, such as how to get something accomplished. What Titoxd told me was more along the lines of evaluating the requester for suitability for adminship. It seems the latter is the general trend. I can peruse the user's talk page and archives, and glance through the recent contributions, but unfortunately, I don't have time to do a detailed analysis of one's RFA chances; I could easily miss something, and I don't know that I can really predict whehter an RFA will pass or fail. I mean, I would feel bad if I didn't see anything wrong with a contributor and the user's RFA later failed. So I guess I'm just not sure how useful I am for this project. — Knowledge Seeker 05:08, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
