Wall of Honor

The portal is really looking good. This week I'll be writing an Artcle related to the Corps, I'll tell you when it's done so that you can look it over. By the way, I notified the PR government in regard to Rafel Toro's name being omitted in the PR Monument and they'll be looking into it.

Because of your dedication and your excellent work in Wikipedia, I have inducted you to my "Wall of Honor" Tony the Marine 21:29, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:DYK question

The article was expanded from a stub-like state, but the expansion was not that drastic (only ~2x). I think it's fair to say it is ineligible. Nishkid64 19:56, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Semi-protection request - article World War II

Hi Mate

I would like to request the main article World War II to be once again semi-protected, it seems to be sufering from vandalism quite a bit. The article was previously semi-protected for a while, but has been un-locked now for new and un-registered users. Obviously, that was not a good decision.

I'm writing to you 'coz I saw you fix a small vandalism just now!

Many thanks -- Ash sul 01:33, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

DYK NextUpdate

Hello,

Minutes before you cleared the NextUpdate page, admin Shanel had moved couple of my DYK noms from suggestions page to NextUpdate page. You can see that in the history. Can you please put those two nominations and the corresponding credits info back into that page, so that they will be considered in next appearance in main page? Thanks. - KNM Talk 05:19, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Wall framing

Not a problem. I literally laughed at loud at some of those links. The word 'adequate' was linked, 'square' was linked, it was absolutely out of control.IvoShandor 05:58, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Corporate Crime

"Please do not add the Corporate crime category to companies/corporations for which there is not corresponding, verified information in the article." More details please. Cryptonymius 02:03, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

shell corporations are used for (among other things) tax evasion which is a crime and therefore relevant to the category of corporate crime which I'm trying to build up. And regarding Exxon-Mobile: In 2003, the Office of Foreign Assets Control reported that ExxonMobil engaged in illegal trade with Sudan and along with dozens of other companies settled with the United States government for $50,000.[15] And I would call that corporate crime. Cryptonymius 02:09, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes on shell corps. On the Exxon issue, I agree there are criminal codes, and there are other forms of law, but the category description only refers to "illegal activities" and it doesn't specify that a corporation or upper management must necessarily be indicted for violations of a penal or criminal code and in the Exxon article and the citations it appears that laws were broken and in the general sense of the word that would appear to be a crime and therefore relevant to Corporate Crime, I would think. Cryptonymius 02:32, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello again. I read the article Corporate_crime and to tell you the truth I'm wondering if you have read it recently, because it says, among other things, "...given the absence of political control today, corporations serve to destroy the foundations of the civic community and the lives of people who reside in them." This is tantamount to saying that all corporations are evil, if not also mere criminal conspiracies.

And yeah it's a bad day in town when the mill shuts down, but to me this seems like radicalist propaganda or sheer conspiracy theory and if I were to take just a wild guess I would venture to say that there's more political control over everything than ever before in human history. And I'm no fan of large corporations, but frankly I don't think this article does such a great job of illuminating what the category of "corporate crime" is supposed to be about. I mean there's a few good paragraphs at the beginning, and a nice sentence at the end, but in the middle is a lot of stuff that seems extraneous and lacking in authority. And I feel obliged to point out that the last sentence mentions health and safety laws, and "damage to the environment" as "examples" of "criminal behavior," and at least here in the State of New York all those things are covered by laws completely separate from the criminal (penal) law, and may or may not carry "criminal penalties" such as imprisonment.

So what this sentence seems to be saying is that acts punishable by "civil penalties" can be considered criminal behavior.

In any case, please check my update to the ExxonMobil#Unethical_business_practices page/section because I've added the conclusion to the J. Bryan Williams case wherein this former executive was sentenced to jail and fined millions of dollars under the Foreign Corrupt Practises Act. There's a link to a US Department of Justice page which spells it all out. And of course what I'd like to know is whether you think a link to the Category of Corporate Crime is now justified. Cryptonymius 09:54, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Next Update for DYK

Please review the photograph at the next update for DYK. It has a watermark on the lower right hand corner. It also is a copyrighted image that is used under implied and not explicit permission. I had replaced the image with a Commons free use one on the article, but I was reverted by another contributor. My understanding is that a free use image should be used over one that is copyrighted with permission. The free use image has a rather unsightly crane in the background. The easiest solution would be to use the flag image. Royalbroil T : C 02:13, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Check this guy out

Maybe you can help me dig up some info. on RUDOLPH RIEFKOHL. According to: Los immigrantes Germanico de la zona sureste Rudolfo garduated with a degree from MIT and reached the rank of general in the Army (translation) and Descendants of Otto Julius Riefkohl COLONEL RUDOLPH W. RIEFKOHL, Education: MIT graduate, Engineering Fact 1: Childless, Military service: Brigadier General, U.S Corps of Engineer. Now, he was the brother of Rear Admiral Frederick Lois Riefkohl.

If we can confirm that he was a Brigadier General in the U.S Corps of Engineer, then he very well may have been the first Hispanic-American to reach the rank of General in the US.

He lived before the term "Hispanic" was established and before the formation of the PR National Guard. Maybe because he has a Germanic name, the fact the he was the first Hispanic General may have been lost to history, Who knows? It sure would be interesting to find out. Dick Cheney edits

Thank you for your dilligent efforts to improve Wikipedia. It is not correct to state that the image you deleted is included solely, or in any intentional way at all, to disparage the subject. Rather, it was to illustrate the nature of certain allegations of public misconduct, that are deemed to be inappropriate for inclusion in Wikipedia at this time. It was not my intention to disparage Mr. Cheney, only to bring to wider exposure certain allegations regarding his conduct. Thank you again. JPatrickBedell 05:32, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Reported similar hoaxers...

Just to let you know, I've been reporting a bunch of users who have created hoaxes to this checkuser. Most of those users edit/target articles related to My Gym Partner's a Monkey. They've added misinformation and fake episodes onto those articles (examples: [1], [2], [3], [4]). Most of thhe users reported also seem to have an interest in anime, The Fairly OddParents, Re-Animated (or anything that has to do with the movie), Ed, Edd n Eddy, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. The users at the bottom of the checkuser are all confirmed sockpuppets of Danny Daniel, who was blocked indefinitely for being a vandal only account. I've reported other users who may be Danny Daniel's sockpuppets, such as Danny Morris Daniel 3162 and Jibbity, but the results turned out to be inconclusive. I just wanted you to be aware of this because you were dealing with the user Chacalaca. Squirepants101 15:29, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, pretty cool. Hey, I just finished Puerto Ricans in World War II. Do you want to look it over and do the proper fixes? I would really be grateful. Tony the Marine 23:44, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Here's a better link for Cordero Davila [5].. It seems as if most of the PR's served in Europe, but I'll be investigating their participation in Asia. Tony the Marine 00:47, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
"Dates out of order" Oops! May mistake. That's why I come to you, you find things that I overlook. Thanks Tony the Marine 02:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
  • You are right about the intro. I got in touch with a military historian friend of mine, who lives in PR and he told me that the 295th and 296th Infantry Regiments of the Puerto Rican National did not "really" serve in the Pacific as almost every website state (These sites state that these units served in the Pacific, but they do not say where). I wanted him to tell me where they served and he told me that the 295th served in Panama and the 296th was sent to Hawaii (he even provided a source). The thing that I would like to find out is if there are any stats anywhere that will tell me how many PR's served in the USMC, USN or the USA in the Pacific. Tony the Marine 03:12, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Forget "Los Barrabases" you can strike that one out because it is about the childhood of Brig. Gen, Luis Esteves. In regard to "¡Los Soldados Son Así!" the site is :http://bellsouthpwp.net/r/u/ruiz_b/LuisRaulEsteves/los_soldados_son_asi.htm "Los Soldados Son Así! by General Luis Raúl Esteves, Star Publishing Co.,San Juan, Puerto Rico, Published in 1955. In the book, he tells many antidotes, jokes, and stories of Puerto Rican soldiers, covering the period from when the ancient regiment from Puerto Rico were organized up to the Second World War. Tony the Marine 04:06, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

(P.S., yep, the PR National Guard article definitly needs expantion)

  • Thanks, you're a real trooper. I don't I'll be adding anything new for now. Stats in regard to how many PR's served in "regular" units (USMC,USN and USA) were not kept at that time. Tony the Marine 03:22, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Military infobox

I don't know, I tought that they would look good with the top medals, but I'll go with the flow. I consider you the infobox man. Hey, I want to really thank you for helping me in the Puerto Ricans in World War II. You really did an outstanding job. Tony the Marine 05:59, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I also agree with you and the rest of the military community. The list of awards in the infobox shold not contain all of the persons awards, that's what a "Awards and decoration" section within the article is for. I was surprised when someone added the list to Agustin Ramos Calero's infobox. I'll check the articles that I've originated and cut down the lists to only the top awards.

In regard to the Puerto Ricans in World War II, I'm done for now, so be my guest with the copyediting. I'm going to wait until I receive any stats on the total of PR's who were members of the "regular" branches of the Armed Forces during that period before making anymore additions. Vandalism on Article for Deletion

Dear ERcheck, I am the person who used the wrong method to delete articles and you did me warnings of make them with correct way. Since I didn't know in what way I could do it you have explained me. I have recently put Article for Deletion the Etienne Barbara, however, without further warning, and since the article was on discussion if it should have been kept or not, User:Stew jones, without even been an administrator two days after was on deletion, not pussing the discussion period (about five days), he removed the notice that the article is on deletion and writing that the result was keep. I would like you to make further actions for this vandalism. Thanks. KRBN 13:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't see anything that makes Etienne Barbara notable. Some claim the fact that he played for his national team which I disagree. The WP:BIO is specific: Athletes: Competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming and tennis Competitors who have played or competed at the highest level in amateur sports. Competitors in college sports in the United States. Articles about first team squad members who have not made a first team appearance may also be appropriate, but only if the individual is at a club of sufficient stature that most members of its squad are worthy of articles.

Also I want to ask, why one administrator has the right to decide about if an article. I am asking this because Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Constantinos Makrides which was decided kept, there was a person who in few months more probably will have also administator right (User:Tellyaddict), supported delete. For what I mean, even if an administrator decide to be keep, amy another one disagree. Shouldn't that been decided by several administrators? At least that administrator must have some knowledge of football and to be member of Wikiproject football.

If Etienne Barbara will be keep, at least in WP:BIO must be written that international footballers are considered notable KRBN 16:16, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Great News

I have some great news. RADM DeLoach from the Pentagon called me and they are interested in my work and want me to work in collaboration on a project about Hispanic Naval and USMC grads. It can be done in Wiki and I told them yes. I was thinking about recruiting you and Looper. I don't know how it is going to be done yet, but I was wondering if you would like to be part of it.

This is part of an e-mail that I received from Rear Admiral DeLoach:

Tony the Marine, The honor is mine to speak to such a dedicated patriot, educator, and writer. I marvel at your ability to collect, research, and synthesize vast of amount of material into great stories and articles about our cultural heritage. You are truly performing a great service for the future generations of our Country...

Hi The edits in relation to Paul Torriso I believe are genuine - wikipedia is not a place for self-promotion or advertisement. It should provide meaningful and useful encyclopaedic content and not lists of what media appearances this individual has had. Please respond with your thoughts otherwise the edits will be reapplied unless they are inappropriate - thanks in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaf159 (talkcontribs) 23:56, 6 April 2007

Botaylor 456/Bo456 Sockpuppetry

A thousand thank yous for weighing in on this. This user has been driving me crazy for the past week. Take a look at my user contributions and you can see that I've tried to undo a lot of his damage. One thing I'm still having a problem with: Postcard Cathy removed my prod (well, she claims she did, although it was first done with an anonymous IP address) on Michael Evans (As The World Turns), which was one of his hoax pages. The other ones have been deleted, but when she first removed the prod (and did not mark it for AfD), I reverted it back, because the reasons given (again, by the anonymous IP address user) were clearly wrong (the only Google hits lead you back to the bogus Wikipedia entry.) She (under her own name) removed the prod again, and nominated it for AfD, then voted it a "Speedy Keep," still using the faulty research after I pointed out to her that it was wrong. I guess some people don't want to be confused by facts. (Check out her user page for a discussion I had with her.) One more thing: there are also several more IP addresses that he's been using and Chrisch helped out by reserarching them and putting warnings on some of those pages. (You can see the results at the bottom of my User Talk page.) I also reported Botaylor456 under WP:AIV (for his numerous edits, not to mention the article creations), but someone moved it to WP:ANI, and I don't think anyone ever did anything about it. Anything else I can do? --Proofreader J-Man 02:57, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Puerto Ricans in World War II

How you doing? To answer your question, yes it is the first time that Puerto Ricans have participated in combat as commanders within the struvture of the United States Military. Before 1898, Puerto Ricans had played instrumental roles within the Spanish Military.

As proven by the interviews, Puerto Ricans did serve in regular non-segregated units. However stats, as stated and cited were not keep because Puerto Ricans were considered caucasian. Tony the Marine 14:10, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I see what you mean. Frederick Lois Riefkohl, as a lieutenant, was Commander of the Armed Guard of the USS Philadelphia, but not of the USS Philadelphia. What I'm trying to point out is that there were no Puerto Ricans in important decission making command positions prior to WW II. Such as commanding an entire ship or submarine or division. You know what I mean? Maybe you can rephrase it. Tony the Marine 21:41, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

That's a tough one since Hispanic contributions, including PR have been omitted in our history books. What motivated me to write about Pedro del Valle for example, was that I only found one sentence in about him in a book about WW II. I then didn't even find anything in the internet. I had to write to the USMC and the USMC museum in this regard and wha-la. So far I have relied on what I have found and nothing has pointed to any important roles beyond WW II. I don't know if I'm making any sense anymore. Tony the Marine 22:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

DeLoach has been suppling me lots of info for the project and so far he has reaffirmed my conclussion in regard to the PR. commanders. There have some more after WW II, but none before. Tony the Marine 23:28, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm going crazy (smile). You know you've made me think. How about if we eliminate any reference in the paragraphs as to "it is the first time that..." and rewrite it simply as something in the line of "Some Puerto Ricans also particpated in importnat commanding roles" ? Tony the Marine 01:39, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Remember, the 51,000 is only referring to the exact number of Puerto Ricans who served in Puerto Rican units from the island. The military did keep stats on the Hispanics who served in Regular army units. Only stats of African-American and Asian-American were kept (as I cited). Therefore, the exact number of Puerto Ricans who lived in the mainland and who were assigned either to regular caucasian or black units is unknown and as a consecuence the exact total of Puerto Ricans in general who participated in the war cannot be known. Tony the Marine 02:10, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Over "53,000" is an assumption from neta.com and more than 65,000 is also an assumption from American Veteran's Committee for Puerto Rico Self-Determination. However, the total exact number cannot be known. I quote from the National Museum of World War II: "How many Hispanic Americans served in the U.S. military during WWII? Between 250,000 and 500,000 . NOTE: These estimates are rough because at the time, the military categorized Hispanics under the same heading as whites. The only racial groups to have separate stats kept were Blacks and Asians." http://www.nationalww2museum.org/education/education_numbers.html We cannot go by assumptions therefore, it would be unfair to place a number of a total amount or speculation of a total. The fact is that a total amont of those who served is unknown. Tony the Marine 03:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

  • The problem that I have with the estimates from both sites is that neither of them provide an explanation nor source as to how they reached those numbers. I'm afraid of what will happen if in the future if other sites pop-up with different estimates. I rather stick to the facts. Tony the Marine 03:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Check this out

ER,

You know, it is real coinsidence how at a time when we are working on the Puerto Ricans in World War II article that you mentioned Ms. Rivas-Rodriguez. Today I received the following e-mail from Congressman Serrano's office:

tony Pbs is working on a wwll series directed by ken burns of the civil war series. Actually, I first became fascinated with the civil war after having watched the series. Apparently, the congressional hispanic caucus is not impressed with the notable absence of hispanics contribution during the war. Paula Kerger the president and ceo of pbs met with the caucas and offered to suggest changes. Tony, can you write to the hispanic caucas and suggest some additions or call congressmans garcias office and offer your expertise on the matter Then someone sent me this site in a message where Ms. Rivas-Rodriguez is mentioned. http://seattlepi.com/tv/310699_kenburnswar09.html

In a wierd way somehow all this seems to tie in together. Tony the Marine 03:58, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Fashionista (band)

A tag has been placed on Fashionista (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Poeloq 06:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem with deleting this one. I did notify an editor who self-identifies as a band member to see if there was something more to establish notability. — ERcheck (talk) 21:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

RolandR AV/I case

i request you don't become an inadvertant accomplice to RolandR's malicious activity by presuming the location of his comments to be the correct one. he has ignored the notice issued under the text (relating to the personal attack on me) and created a seperate out of chronological order complaint to make his complaint be "first" on the read list. however, the history of the page indicates that i reported a personal attack on me[8] and afterwards rolandR has posted his vandalism complaint above the section dealing with the issue[9]. Jaakobou 13:11, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: RolandR AV/I case

I am not really fussed about whatever the dispute is about - all I am simply saying is don't delete other peoples comments when you are involved in a dispute with them. That is very bad form - please don't do it. SFC9394 13:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Do not refactor ANI

(edit conflict):You recently moved a comment made by another editor in the ANI report that the two of you are involved in. You are not to alter others comments. In this case, as you are an involved party, it is especially important that you do not even move other's comments to where you feel they are more appropriate. — ERcheck (talk) 13:14, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

ERcheck (talk and SFC9394. i did 'not delete or edit any comments.. only moved a misplaced comment to the proper chronological order since the other user has placed his "vandalism report" above my previous complaint for personal attacks. however, i agree that i should not move other user's comments which means i will only place links to my comments in the proper chonology. on a jokingly side (i hope you can take it on a lighter spirit side despite the heated situation) i was moving my own comments above rolandR's comments and not moving his comments down. </joke> on the serious side, user RolandR has removed the personal attack warning i issued on his user talk page. Jaakobou 13:25, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

As I said, you "moved" a comment. "Edit" covers moving comments as the context is changed. As you are a party to the complaint, you should let others handle any issues with respect to the out of mis-ordered comments. Let other editors make their own mistakes. If you disagree with where someone else puts the comment, make note of the placement; but, don't move it. In addition, as the editor's original comment that you moved was not in response to the subject line below it, in my opinion, it was in the proper location as a response to the comments above it. I recommend that you let the case speak for itself, rather than escalating it further by making the ANI itself an issue. You have been asked very nicely not to edit other's comments in the ANI case. If you do this again, you are subject to being blocked. — ERcheck (talk) 14:08, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
i've managed to resolve the situation in a better way thank you. Jaakobou 14:10, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for stepping back and agreeing to leave the other's edits alone. Working this issue with civility is appreciated. — ERcheck (talk) 14:17, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
i do try to resolve disputes, this one though is a unique and very much problematic case. you're more than invited to see the entire thread and weigh in on it. Jaakobou 14:24, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Hispanic Admirals

Received this message in regard to stats:

"Tony, I do not have any historical statistics, nor does the Navy or Naval Academy...these records were not kept. When I was combing the USNA Alumni database to find Commodore Robert Lopez, I did notice a few other Hispanics who attended the Naval Academy but did not graduate. Each class that enters the U.S. Naval Academy has a 30-40% historical attrition rate from start to finish...so did expect to see a few Hispanic names who did not make it to graduation. My 1978 Naval Academy class started out with 1588 freshmen and we graduated 942. The Navy did not keep statistics on ethnic backgrounds until the late 70's...this has been a challenge for historians and researchers. Jay"

Made changes recommended, ready to post after you do the reference thing on two new references that I added. Tony the Marine 21:08, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Thank you for everything. I'll start on my next project after I come back from the east coast. I'm going to post a message in my talk page on the 17th and I would like to know if it is O.K. if I refer you as the person to answer any questions which requires an answer from an admin. until I come back. Tony the Marine 00:52, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll be gone for 8 days. Starting on the 18th, Baltimore,New Jersey, New York, Cooperstown and Boston. Tony the Marine 01:03, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

  • This what DeLoach has to say:

"Tony, Commodore is an official flag rank when used during wartime and is a one-star admiral, equivalent today to rear admiral (lower half). Commodore is also used as a title when in command of a squadron of ships or submarines...which does make it a little confusing. In the 1990's the Navy re-instated the use of Commodore as a flag rank but discontinued its use a few years later mainly because our allies were confused and wanted to interface with a 'real' admiral. In the case of Robert Lopez, his rank is an official flag officer rank earned during WWI. Since the Civil War, the flag officer ranks and names in the Navy have varied and is another history lesson or article onto itself. All that said, Robert Lopez should not be removed from the list of Hispanic Admirals because he is an official flag officer. This is my recommendation. Thanks, Jay"

I'm going to reinstate the Lopez section, but to avoid confussion I'll omit the word "Commodore". Tony the Marine 03:40, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree with you. The thing is that DeLoach is also a historian and its obvious that he knows what he's talking about. In the meantime, I'm going to search for references. Tony the Marine 04:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Source

No, I know that you don't question DeLoach knowledage on the subject. What I mean't is that he proided that info. The source being: Jennifer Bryan, historian of USNA <bryan@usna.edu> 04/11/07 6:48 PM. Besides providing this from the Academy's historical records:

Born March 31, 1857 in Davenport, Iowa. Admitted to USNA September 29, 1874. Appointed from Tennessee, 9th Congressional District. Joseph C. Lopez, Memphis, Tennessee, railroad agent, listed as parent or guardian.

Retired June 30, 1911 with the rank of commodore (rear admiral (lower half). Died September 20, 1936 in Alameda, California.

Bryan also provided the following sources to back up her statements: , October 1, 1936 (page 25) and NY Times article "Navy Board Retires Fourteen Officers," July 4, 1911 (page 13).

What can I say? Tony the Marine 15:17, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll ask about the copies of the NY Times articles.

Tony the Marine 23:24, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Where do you suggest that I post the citation? In the "USNA" section or the "Hispanic alumni section"? Tony the Marine 23:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

John Edwards

I have not engaged in 3RR violations. Furthermore, the other editors are engaging in an edit war. Rather than explain why the medical expert's advice is bad, they just keep reverting (without any compromise) the campaign spin, not the NPOV version that wikipedia is supposed to be. Jersyko and Tvoz are those other editors. Furthermore, they attack me and do not "assume good faith". On the other hand, I do not attack them even when I can see they are not being fair or objective.Annalissette 20:53, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I did not start a checkuser for this particular sock. However, see Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Dereks1x for other confirmed socks (there was also a positive suspected sock puppets case). The user has a history of using socks to make the same rather unique argument that was made by Annalissette at the John Edwards article (i.e. "listen to experts", ignoring WP:NOR, and confusingly invoking NPOV). The user even created a sock account (that was confirmed by checkuser) with false medical credentials in an effort to bolster his argument. That sock led to the community ban at the community noticeboard. Aside from making an identical argument, Annalissette, like Dereks1x and socks, peculiarly focused only on reversions of his edits and comments by Tvoz and me (ignoring Maximusveritas' reversion and talk comment in this instance). I'm happy to take this to AN, CN, or start another checkuser request if you aren't as confident (no qualms here about anyone wanting others to review my administrative judgments). Or, if you'd rather, you're welcome to do so yourself. Cheers. · j e r s y k o talk · 23:20, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

For this reason, it is best not to propose deletion of articles that have previously been de-{{prod}}ed, even by the article creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! North Killiney

You removed the speedy delete tag on North Killiney, I put the tag on that article as no such area exists or known in Dublin.--padraig3uk 13:15, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

You are the second Admin to delete the tag, rather than the article - without reading the Talk Page it would seem. Until the references requested are provided we must assume the article is an invention/hoax. (Sarah777 14:53, 29 April 2007 (UTC))

Note on responses: Responded to both editors and on article talk page. Does not meet G1 criteria (hoaxes are specifically excluded). — ERcheck (talk) 15:22, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
There has been no attempt to support this aerticle with any references to the existence of a suburb known as "North Killiney" (again, not surprising as no such place exists!) How long should we have to wait for some evidence before the article is removed? (Sarah777 16:55, 30 April 2007 (UTC))

Question

ER, I was wondering if Joseph V. Medina would be a good candidate for featured bio in the portal, since he was the first United States Marine Corps officer, in history to take command of a Naval flotilla. What do you think? Tony the Marine 21:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Protection

Hi. From the protection policy:

Indefinite semi-protection may be used for: ... User pages (but not user talk pages), when requested by the user.

Emphasis mine. Your user talk page appears to have been protected since September 2006 – that seems pretty permanent to me – and the level of vandalism prior to that was nowhere near the level usually warranted for semi-protection of a page (a single user vandalizing from a single IP range). Before that one incident I don't see any anonymous edits at all for over a month. Certainly far, far less than what some of us mere mortals without the ability to protect our own talk pages at will have to deal with. Is there a good reason to keep this page protected? – Gurch 19:14, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Another Clay Aiken image issue

I added background info into the article. I see you updated the image description. Is there any fair use rational that you know of that I can look at for reference? - Maria202 14:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do about getting another cc image as I'm really not up to arguing with another editor about using this photo. I did some reading on the subject yesterday and I do understand their concerns so it's probably not worth trying to fight for this particular photo as it seems what was okay a few years ago is not okay any longer. - Maria202 13:02, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Got rid of the redlinks in Medina's article. I agree with you, I'll look into doing an article about the whole ESG concept. Problem with anon user

Hi, I noticed you reverted (and warned) anon user 76.97.5.111 about a change he recently made to an article. This user has also been vandalising my Talk page, by re-inserting a bogus warning from a banned sockpuppet which I ad removed. I suspect this user is the same as 68.219.149.22, since that user did the same to my page a while ago. anon user 76.97.5.111 has already been blocked before for vandalism, I was hoping you could block him again. Thank You All

It is kind of funny because it really isn't my birthday. It was on March 9, but thank you all for your kind words and support.

As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in [[13]] has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

I did promise some of my friend a couple of articles and as a good Marine I will keep my promise. To my friends here, Thank you for your friendship. Tony the Marine 23:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Please, Dont edit Westbrook Intermediate School

hey. Please do not edit Westbrook Intermediate School anymore. The only editors are people who go there, and last time I checked, you do not sound like someone who goes to this school. So, this time, I am asking nicely, please dont edit the site anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cdguy06 (talkcontribs) 02:58, 8 May 2007

Ok.I started the site to let our school be known. At first, it was a joke, but now I am serious about it. I am trying to get the bloggers to stop, but for them to stop as soon as possible, I need to get them to stop on my own. So, if you please, let me edit it and get rid of the fake stuff, otherwise, they will not stop. I can get them to quit the dumb info. Please cut back on the editing of the site. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cdguy06 (talkcontribs) 03:07, 8 May 2007

  • The new user must be aware that no one owns the articles in Wikipedia and therefore material deemed as nonsense or POV will be removed by any editor. If the addition of non-notable as in the section of "famous students" and such continue, I suggest that proper steps be taken, such as a semi-protect. Tony the Marine 04:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Thanks Tony. I have left messages for this editor and the others editing the article about ownership, veriability, and npov. Seems that the editing has slowed down — either they've taken the information to heart and are chosing to comply with Wikipedia policy or it is late in Texas and they've stopped editing for the night. I hope it is the former. If you note that a rash of such edits starts up again, please do take the step to semi-protect the page as necessary. — ERcheck (talk) 04:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Basquiat DVDcover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Just wanted you to know that I have started on the "ESG" article. Tony the Marine 19:58, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Agustin Ramos Calero

At first I couldn't see it, but now that I've taken a closer look I see what you mean. Now, I wonder, who was the first most decorated PR soldier in WW II? Tony the Marine 21:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Another thing, maybe he was the second in all of the US during WW II, but the person who posted the info may have expressed him/herself incorrectly. Who knows? The thing is that what you rephrased in the article "is" the best way to go. I went on and fixed every link related to Calero. Tony the Marine 22:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Frank Bonilla

Took a look. It may need a little creativity. I mentioned him in "Puerto Ricans in World War II", now I'll go and add the link. Tony the Marine 22:50, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Tombstone Admirals

Ever hear of that concept? Tony the Marine 00:27, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

  • That's right. The person received, be he a Colonel or naval Captain, the promotion upon retirement and said person was permitted to have the inscription of B. General or R. Admiral on his tombstone, but the person did not recieve the pay that corresponded said grade. The practice was discontinued by an Act of Congress in 1959. So far, I know that Rear Admiral Jose M. Cabanillas was a "Tombstone Admiral". I'm going to try to find out which of the admirals which I wrote about were Tombstone Admiral's. Tony the Marine 01:00, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Cabanillas was the first Puerto Rican to make rear admiral in the US Navy, albeit a tombstone promotion. I added citation. Tony the Marine 03:08, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

USMC Portal

Do mean the story about the Army's song album with the Marine in its cover? Men, what a blooper! Right now I'm recharging my mental batterires. I'm planning to counterattack PBS's and Ken Burns documentary "The War", which will air in September and which has totally omitted the Hispanic contribution to the WW II effort. I hope to write a really good article in the future to this respect and try to have it FA'ed so that maybe it can be posted on September. I'm in no rush though, I'm in my planning stages. Tony the Marine 00:26, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

  • At first PBS and Ken Burns did not want to relent. They stated that Burns documentary was a "Masterpiece" and would not be changed. After they felt the preasure, they (PBS & company) stated that they would not change the documentary, but would make certain inserts during commercials as to the Hispanic contributions. Not acceptable! Finally, the Latino community pressed and threaten the sponsors with a boycott of their products. PBS stated that they will make some changes, but Burns does not want to make any changes to his original work. I will try to do some justice to these people with an article. Tony the Marine 03:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Angel Ramos (educator)

You are right about him being the first. I think the intro was once copyedited by User:Brookie. Could you do me a favor and fix it with the citation? Thanks. Tony the Marine 22:23, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks! The image thing has kept me busy. Waht a waste of intellectual time (smile). Tony the Marine 23:23, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Colgator

Thanks for the help on the Charles B. DeBellevue article I recently have been working on. I haven't done that many articles and am not completely familiar with the formating and reference requirements. If you can point me in the right direction, it is appreciated. My research is excellent but my understaning of the Wiki is limited.

Thanks, Colgator 03:38, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

I did some more work on the Notes section after your last edit. I keep forgetting to fill out the edit summary before I save but I will get better at it. RE: Question "Jeffrey Ethell and Alfred Price (1989). Footnote #4 - is this for page 141 or pages 55-61 or both?" I am pretty sure it is both. I changes it that way until I can go back to the library and verify page number 141. I could not tell from my notes. Thanks again. Colgator (talk)

  • ERCheck, thanks for nominating the Charles B. DeBellevue article for DYK and thanks for your help in editing it. It was selected. I did a couple of more minor changes since your last edit and there have been several more by others since. I didn't understand one of the edits by 19:49, 31 May 2007 Samsara (Talk | contribs) (21,544 bytes) (→September 9, 1972, MiG Kills 5 & 6 - is this meant to be direct speech, or are we just getting carried away a little bit?) and his edit <! --hello Charles? do you read me?-- > (I put some spaces in so it would show up here)

Is there any sort of spell checker on Wikipedia? Colgator 21:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

  • ERcheck, another question. My Charles B. DeBellevue article was first assessed by User:Climie.ca 18:30, 29 May 2007 (UTC). I didn't particularly agree with his assessment, but that is part of the process I guess on Wikipedia. I then looked at his user page and he says he is a 15 y/o self professed communist from Canada. Enough said. The article has been polished up in the last two days, with your help, since his assement and I would hope it would be reassessed sometime soon. In case you are interested, I did this article after watching a Legends Of Airpower about Steve Ritchie on the Military Channel last Friday. I searched Ritchie and found the Wikipedia article on him, but there wasn't one on DeBellevue. The other Vietnam aces, Feinstein, Cunningham and Driscoll, also had Wikipedia articles. Unfortunately, it was a rainy Memorial Day weekend where I live so I started the DeBellevue article. I borrowed heavily from the Ritchie article since they had four MiG kills together. I hope that is permissible. I did my own independent research to verify that information and started the DeBellevue article. This evening, I called DeBellevue but he is out of town. I hope to interview him by phone over the weekend to fill in many more blanks such as his number of Air Medals received. I want him to review the article to verify its accuracy. After all, it is about him. When DeBellevue retired in Jan 1998, I was the State Director of Operation for the Missouri Air National Guard in Jefferson City, MO. The 131st Fighter Wing (St Louis) was scheduled to do a 4 ship F-15 fly-by over the University of Missouri to commemorate DeBellevue's retirement with him in the back seat of a F-15B. The flight lead was the pilot that got the first air-to-air kill in Desert Storm. The other three pilots also got air-to-air kills in Desert Storm. Unfortunately, the flight got weather cancelled for low visibility and fog at Columbia, MO that day. I will add this to the article once I get all the details. I have also located Chuck's citation to accompany the award of the Air Force Cross, the 2nd highest award you can rceive in the AF. The only thing higher is the Medal of Honor. Is that appropriate to add to the article? Thanks for all your help. This is the first really indept article I have tried to do. I really do appreciate your help. Colgator 03:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank You kindly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnsome (talkcontribs) 18:46, 29 May 2007

Could you believe this?

Er, I'm back. It was great, I'll fill you in on the details later. Now, could you believe this, someone wants to delete the "List of Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients" that you and I have worked so hard on doing. Check it out Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients. What is going on here? Tony the Marine 18:24, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Did you know? was updated. On 31 May, 2007, a fact from the article Charles B. DeBellevue, which you recently nominated, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thank you for your nomination! Sean William @ 19:30, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

DYK needs an update

(messing up your blank slate!) Are you there? (tugs at sleeve) DYK is now 13 hours since last updating, and (unlike most of the other admins on the list) you at least have edited in the last hour! If you get a chance to stop by, etc... Bencherlite 15:10, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks anyway - found that Majorly had edited recently, left him a message, then did the same to you in case Majorly had wandered off... the more frequent the updates, the more chances for my noms to get placed before they expire! Bencherlite 15:44, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

No Problem

I'm at the point of finding the argument over at the RfD whimsical anymore. Always good hearing from you. How's everything? Murcielago 18:49, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

AfD comment

Please don't create an unnecessary dispute between us over a worthless AFD. Keep these messages on the AfD or merely get over it. Bulldog123 20:55, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Kim Casiano

I just reread the sources already cited, especially her Ford Motor Company bio, and added to it. The only fact, common knowledge in PR, that I have to seek a source for, is the Berrocal foundation info. She and Bill Ford were close friends of Jose Berrocal at Princeton. When he died of cancer, they set up a foundation in his honor (heavily endowed by Ford Motor Company) which every PRican seeking to pursue grad studies in business knows is the biggest source of scholarships in that field at that level. I'll work at sourcing the Berrocal angle. Thanks for alerting that her article could use more "carne" !Pr4ever 11:19, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

I added some sources in her Talk page. Hope it helps.Pr4ever 02:18, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I Like Girls (song)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on I Like Girls (song), by Dawn PM (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because I Like Girls (song) fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

less than stub, not notable, no added information, waste of resource, too short

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting I Like Girls (song), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate I Like Girls (song) itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 23:34, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Portal

How about a Portal dedicated to the early "Marines", Revolutionary War era? Do we have info on the battles that they participated? Images of uniforms used during that era? Marines who distinguished themselves? What do you think? Tony the Marine 19:00, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

  • You bet, after the project, we'll work on an article about the early history of the Corps. Tony the Marine 01:30, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

CHAT: LINE Combatives edit

Hello sir. I noticed you edited the marine corps LINE combat system page. I understand what was originally written there but my father is the originator, Ronald Donvito. And according to him there are some accurate statements there, but for the most part it is not a true description. He left you a message in the discussions area of the page, if you want to contact him. If not thank you for your time and God Bless. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.191.55.190 (talkcontribs) 04:19, 29 June 2007

Conflict of Interest

Sir, I have no intentions of breaking any of the rules of this forum. However, the information that has been posted previously is in error. I am assuming that this was done accidentally. My only goal is for the information to be factual. If there is a way that you can direct me to post this factual information without breaking any of the rules or regulations of this forum I would be extremely grateful. I very rarely use the internet, I apologize for my ignorance. The information that I have posted is factual. Although there may be personnel that can be contacted that have attended one or more of the cited meetings. I am the only person to have attended all of them. I am sure from your record of historical writing that you also are only interested in posting the truth. I tried to write the information on the system without prejudice or slant. I would be more than happy to answer any questions on the LINE System and/or its history with you and have you submit the article if that is more in line with the rules of the forum. My vested interest is in having the information posted on the LINE System be factual.
