Hi there! I see you're adding a bunch of citations about the box office gross for films. That's great! My only concern is the citation you're using. This [http://heylookmeover.blogspot.com.au/ Hey, Look Me Over] site, is that the best source we can find? It appears to just be someones blog. I changed the source on the The Greatest Show on Earth page to some random article I found on Variety. You raise a good point - the blog however reproduces figures straight from Variety. I could simply say it's from Variety (they would list these charts at the end of the year) ) thought i would include the link to the blog because you can see all the facts and figures there and I can't find that information anywhere else on line. The variety article on Greatest Show on Earth is good but I'd still like to reference the Variety Top List of Grosses for the year -as well.Dutchy85 (talk) 02:25, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Hmmm. I see what you're saying. It looks like Variety has their weekly box office records available back to like 1982, and then they have full archives behind a pay wall. I see that there's Box Office Mojo [1] and The Numbers. But both of these have a number (36 million) which differs from the 12 million cited for Greatest Show on Earth [2] [3]... so this must be a different stat? Also, I know nothing about how reliable these sources are either. Do we not like the idea of citing IMDB either? Note, the number there differs as well [4]. The variety figures are contemporary and for rentals and only apply to the US - it's possible that box office mojo and the others both allow for international figures and are adjusted for inflation - which is why I put (US) after it - by all means adjust what you like - I do like the reference to the link though because it lists the most popular films for that year, showing Greatest Show as number One. I could just put the reference to Variety and not have the blog link but it would mean users miss out on seeing where the information came from and being able to put it in context e.g. I give box office rentals for the films - logging on to the blog will mean people will also be able to see where those films ranked in box office rentals for that year. Dear Hu12 - I had a look at the guidelines. "Spamming" is "adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product" - I'm not promoting a product, or a website, really. It's referencing information contained on a website. It's no more spamming than say a website like box office mojo or the Numbers or IMDB. (Indeed those sites always try to sell something - this blog isn't promoting anything). I'm adding a lot of links because hundreds of films are involved. This is an incredibly useful resource. Wikipedia features hardly any box office figures for films before the 1980s and this website is a rich depository of information for the years 1950-57. I'm not using bots, every entry is made by me individually, every figure is different (I have to type in different amounts). I'm not using wikipedia as a repository of links - I genuinely believe that the box office figures for these films are useful. So many wikipedia film articles are unreferenced - I'm trying to provide pages with some sort of reference for these pages. I've never done an entry which simple lists a link - I always include some other basic film information e.g. it's IMDB listing. I have checked a lot of the information in my own collection of Variety box office listings (photographed from papers at the library) and it is accurate. (If you can point to an error please let me know and I will remove it). I appreciate you're trying to decrease the amount of spam out there but ask that an exception be given in this occasion.Dutchy85 (talk) 15:39, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Anthony I will back off but could you elaborate on what exactly is the issue here? I can't see how it breaches the guidelines. I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm genuinely trying to understand. I don't care much, but according to the guidelines for the infobox, "Gross" is supposed to be the film's worldwide gross, without a breakdown. --Ring Cinema (talk) 13:53, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

King Solomon's Mines and Annie Get your Gun

I noticed you made this edit to the King Solomon's Mines (1950 film). Presumably this isn't the US rental, but do you know if the amount is either the worldwide rental or the US gross revenue? Also, if you know the worldwide rental for Annie Get Your Gun (film) from the same year that would be useful. The article states it earned $8 million, but I don't know if that is the US gross or the worldwide rental, and if there is a source I can use for it.

Also, I'm probably asking for too much here, but do you know the worldwide figures for each Gone with the Wind release? I've been tracking down historic box-office data for older films, and it is notoriously difficult getting hold of the worldwide data. Much appreciated if you can help in any way. The figures at the Eddie Mannix ledger were Cost 2,258,000 – revenue 10,050,000 (domestic 5,050,000, foreign 5,000,000) – profit after other costs 4,122,000. Annie get your gun i'm not so sure of - I didn't put the 8 million figure, I got 4.2 million from Variety, but that would have been US and Canada rentals for 1950. The figures would that would be in the Eddie Mannix ledger at the Margaret Herrick Library (a fabulous resource) but I didn't write it down when I was there. It would have worldwide figures for GWTW too - the tricky thing with that film is it kept being re-released in cinemas, so would have lots of figures to calculate. Stubs

When you create an article like Annapolis Salute, please put some content into the body of the article, not just the infobox. I saw that you added info about the boxoffice takings in the body, then moved it into the infobox - I think the body would have been a better place to put the sourced info. Ron Randell birthplace

I know the article cited states he was US born, but there is no other evidence of this and Im thinking its Hollywood style PR (as in Errol Flynn is Irish born). The IMDB lists his birthplace as Sydney Australia, and see here [5]. Do you have any other info about this? In the meantime Ive changed it back to Sydney so it matches the lede. Please retain the sortname template

Hi, thanks for creating new film articles. One thing I should mention is the {{sortname}} template. It is important to use this in filmographies so that the titles can be sorted correctly if the user chooses. This is a very versatile template. In this edit I noticed you tried to create a link to The Bit Part. What you can do instead is take out the "|nolink=1" parameter like this. "nolink=1" just tells it not to automatically link. Help people find your article

Please remember that if you create a "disambiguated" article like Innocence (2000 film) or Salvation (film), you need to make sure that people can find it: add it to the disambiguation page if there is one, or create a "hatnote" as appropriate. I've added those two to their relevant dab pages. Dab pages and hatnotes help the reader who wants to find the article, and also help prevent another editor from creating an accidental duplicate by not finding your articles. Australian film stubs

Hi, I see you're producing a lot of stubs for Australian films. Can I make some suggestions?

1. It would save the time of stub-sorters if you added {{Australia-film-stub}} yourself.
2. There's a useful IMDb template to use - see The Nun and the Bandit
3. If, like that one, there's a "The" or "A " or "An " at the start of the title, please could you add a "DEFAULTSORT", so that they file right in A-Z lists?
4. IMDb isn't considered to be a Reliable Source, so you need to find something else describing your films which you can cite, or they might be deleted for lack of reliable sources.

I admire your enthusiasm

in creating new articles, but many of the movie-related subjects you write about do not seem to fulfill the parameters of WP:MOVIE. For instance, movies that have fairly small box offices of AUS$5089 (like Broken Sun) or AUS$2,588 box office (like Boxing Day), that seem to have no notable actors or production personnel (like Bigger Than Tina or Strange Fits of Passion), where most of the references cited are to film-directory listings instead of in-depth articles... Perhaps they are notable enough to fulfill specific movie notability guidelines (like having major full-length reviews, being historically notable, major awards, etc.) and I missed that information, but would you mind posting here and letting me know what I've missed about any of the movies I mentioned above?
