User:Martimc123

Good morning,

I have no idea if this is another IP from the sock, but if it is, i'm actually being threatened with reporting (as seen for example here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Carmo&diff=1077092792&oldid=1077055027)? Almost funny, that is in case we're talking about the aforementioned sock.

But man, i really got to stop writing these heated summaries, because: 1 - not the place for that, this is an encyclopedia; 2 - we should not feed trolls.

Attentively, and sincere apologies for any inconvenience I may have stirred. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 10:13, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Re: Debbie Webster

If you are going to delete a page because it was split perhaps save the added information? You just deleted a lot of work! Connorguy99 (talk) 01:23, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

@Connorguy99 do not perform any more cut and paste moves. Doing so is a copyright violation and may lead to further warnings and potentially blocks if repeated. The content, unless you added to it when cut and paste moving it is now at Draft:Debbie Webster. Calling other's vandals without evidence is considered personal attacks. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 01:27, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
The evidence is right there. You too are a vandal as you deleted hard work and effort without a care. Connorguy99 (talk) 01:28, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@Connorguy99 which edits are vandalism, or in other words deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose? Marking pages for deletion that are copyright violations by copy and paste moves isn't obstructing the project's purpose. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 01:31, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
You deleted a lot of work that had been added to the "cut and paste" page (which I did not realise was against the rules). You should have absolutely saved any work that had been added but the vandal in you was only out to destroy the page no matter what. Connorguy99 (talk) 01:33, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@Connorguy99 I'm not a vandal for deleting a copyright violation. The text of the pages deleted have no difference to the revision in the draft at Special:Permalink/1077938569. The text you added at Debbie Webster has been moved to Draft:Debbie Webster and can be viewed at Special:Diff/1077938602. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 01:38, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
There was far more than that. Connorguy99 (talk) 01:39, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
We will have to agree to disagree then, as I see no additions of text that have not been merged into the draft. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 01:42, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
Also, I have since tried to move the draft over to the main page again (as the correct updates have been made) but it will not allow me due to you having already created the page! How is that any different to what I did? Connorguy99 (talk) 01:43, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@Connorguy99 the difference from my point of view is that I've not performed a cut and paste move.
The addition of one extra source isn't probably enough to satisfy WP:GNG if two other editors have thought the subject is not notable. You may request that the redirect be deleted to make way for the move by adding {{Db-move|Draft:Debbie Webster|reason}} to the redirect page where the reason is an explanation that the redirect is holding up the move. However this CSD reason can only be used for non-controversial reasons, so this may be declined by another administrator for that reason. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 01:48, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
I was under the impression that a move request should only be accepted if placed by someone on the AfC committee trying to accept the article into mainspace, as opposed to the creator of the draft requesting it. – DarkGlow • 01:52, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@DarkGlow, if it's for pages that are currently holding up a non-controversial or consensual page move then anyone can mark it as such. AFC reviewers don't have any special permissions to use CSD criteria. In this case the non-controversial part is likely to be an issue. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 01:54, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah, my bad – I'm thinking of template:Db-afc-move. – DarkGlow • 01:58, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@Connorguy99: the version that Dreamy Jazz deleted can be seen here. It was barely different that what is currently on the draft page. The version you had at Debbie webster had slightly less content that the current draft page. I can find no page with more content. Please know that nothing is ever fully "destroyed" on Wikipedia and admins can (in most cases) find deleted content. Also, stop calling people vandals. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:30, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello

Hi! I ran into you while reverting some changes from Lachlan Macquarie, and couldn't help but notice how you were much quicker and more efficient then I was; I was wondering how you went about patrolling recent changes, reverting, sending warnings, and keeping track of who's who so well, and if you could give a few tips if you're not too busy. Thanks! Chaddude (talk) 00:26, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Chaddude

@Chaddude14, Hi there! I'm using a tool called Huggle which is a program that is designed to make the process of reverting vandalism easier. It provides me with a list of suspicious edits, and I review them to determine whether they should or should not be reverted. Therefore, all I need to do is review the edit in question and the tool does the finding edits, warning and even reporting for me. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 00:31, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense, I've been using the beta features to find vandalism pretty well, but the auto-warn/report feature seems very convenient. Thanks for the info! Chaddude (talk) 00:37, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Chaddude

@Timtrent it should do. If you add the script to your global javascript file (m:Special:MyPage/global.js) it should display locked accounts on all wikis. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 11:20, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

@Timtrent try replacing your copy and paste of the JS code with mw.loader.load( 'https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:GeneralNotability/mark-locked.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');. When I loaded the script using this line it worked for me, but when I copied the code from that page it failed. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 21:52, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure how you would do that. Unlike global locks, I don't think there is an easy way for a script to check if an editor is blocked on any wiki as from what I understand it would have to ask each wiki if a particular user is blocked which will take some time considering that there are a lot of WMF wikis. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 08:30, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
Dreamy Jazz, Timtrent, I import the markblocked gadget globally using mw.loader.load('//en.wikipedia.org//w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-markblocked.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript') in my global.js, it will mark local blocks on whatever wiki you're viewing. m:User:Krinkle/Scripts/CVNSimpleOverlay also can help with this (though it takes up a lot of space) - CVN will flag users blocked on at least wiki for attention. "Excessive" personal information

Hello, "Dreamy Jazz", I hope you are well.

I want to talk to you about your contribution on my user page.

First, it didn't bother me too much, because I saw that you left the essential and I thank you, so don't worry if you thought you bothered me.

Second, a question, why in this Wikipedia do they remove the date of birth but in the Spanish Wikipedia they don't? Why are some rules more written on a Wikipedia than others? Honestly, I can't understand the big difference between these Wikipedias. If Wikipedia in Spanish also defends this regulation for minors and I still have my date of birth there, could you take a look at that Wiki, look at my user page that is as "Usuario:Pollosito" and remove the date?

I wholeheartedly suggest you do this because I can't stand the gap between the English Wikipedia and the Spanish Wikipedia.

Thank you very much for your attention and I hope you have a good time on Wikipedia. Santi (talk) 23:40, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

I'm not an oversighter on the Spanish Wikipedia, so I have asked an oversighter on that Wikipedia to remove your date of birth. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 08:51, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Pdh07 on Help:Cheatsheet (18:16, 3 April 2022)

Hello. I created an article for consideration, review, correction, and posting in January 2022. It presently resides in my Sandbox file. Could someone please assist me in getting the article reviewed and published? Thanks. Page Title: Kirk Marshall Clayton --Pdh07 (talk) 18:16, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

The review may take some time, as there are at least 300 other submissions that are older in the queue that are to be reviewed (see Category:AfC pending submissions by age for these). I'm not familiar with American Football so I won't be able to do the review, but the draft could do with more references so that it meets the general notability guideline by having multiple reliable and independent sources that cover. At the moment, two of the 6 sources are not independent (being written by the subject), one seems to focus on another person, and another two are entries in databases. Socks?

Caltraser5 was indefinitely blocked on March 14, 2022, for disruptive editing and WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. On March 20, 2022, Combustible Vulpex was created. After making some WP:GAMING edits, they created Veracity of statements by Scott Morrison, which was tagged WP:G10 but declined and is now at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Veracity of statements by Scott Morrison. I suspect that CV is a sock of C5. First, C5 edited Scott Morrison multiple times, mostly with negative additions. Second, the few edit summaries by CV are similar to C5's. Third, it is hard to imagine a newbie creating such a long article so easily. Finally, the timing is suspicious. I think this warrants a check. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:46, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

  The Original Barnstar
Hi Dreamy Jazz. I just wanted to drop by and thank you for keeping Wikipedia:Administrators' newsletter afloat. I used to be one of the editors sending it out, but as my interests have shifted, this work has faded into the background of my attention. Despite its brevity and despite its small group of authors, this is a pretty important internal newsletter on the English Wikipedia that enjoys relatively widespread readership. Thanks for continuing to run with the ball! Mz7 (talk) 19:59, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
I found (and still do, though I often find the information myself now) the newsletter a very useful way of getting information when you are less active as an admin, or even just not keeping an eye on recent noticeboard discussions. New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Sanction Appeal

Hello Dreamy Jazz! It has been a while. I am considering appealing the sanction which was put on me almost a year and a half ago now. I believe I have been editing constructively since, I have used talk pages for peer discussion, and I have taken time to better understand the ways of Wikipedia by reading many many pages of guidelines. If I were to appeal my sanction, what would you be looking for in my appeal? I have purposefully waited this long to not seem desperate and show some more of my abilities on other pages. I want this to go well so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time, Lima Bean Farmer (talk) 13:39, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Such an appeal should address:
  • Whether or not you were using multiple accounts to evade your 3 month topic ban, especially your relation to Just Piping In
  • Why you were banned in the first place
  • Whether you commit to not repeat the same issues
  • What you will intend to edit in the area if unbanned
This should be kept concise and give background where necessary, as such an unban request is likely to go to WP:AE or WP:AN for review. A read of Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks would not be a bad idea either. I would suggest waiting, as HighInBC said, until you have had no less than a year of productive edits in other areas before making an appeal. This would be making an unban request no earlier than September this year. However, doing so is not a guaranteed way to get unbanned. In general, the longer you wait to appeal while being productive elsewhere the better chance you have. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 00:15, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice! I will definitely read that article and continue productive editing while I consider when to officially request a lift of the ban. Happy editing, Lima Bean Farmer (talk) 00:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Edited an article without logging in. Help.

Hello there,

I made an edit to an article without logging in. It's my understanding that I can redact my IP address from a particular edit. Would you be able to do that for me? I was also wondering if this means of going about of removing my IP from an edit is sufficiently private. Your help is appreciated.

Kind regards C43L (talk) 06:12, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

@C43L, oversighting the IP address of a logged out editor can be done. It can be done by myself or any other Oversighter. For this we will need the edit that you made while logged out (so that we know which edit to oversight). It's best to not publicly post this edit, but email this to the oversighters. You can do this via this page (email needs to be attached to your Wiki account) or you can send an email to oversight-en-wp@wikipedia.org (which is where the form sends the information to). Make sure to include the links to the edits so that we know which edits are made by you. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 18:23, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Who shot first?

Wasn't that you'd missed my comment. I revoked at 23:27 (a few seconds after their second comment, which I hadn't seen when I revoked, but which strengthened the case for it). Then you commented at 23:31, while I was still working on my own comment, which I posted at 23:33. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 23:45, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Ah I see. I was using reply tool so I didn't see the change in block until I then looked at my watchlist again. On reflection my first comment which replied to them was made in the understanding it was a genuine question about what is and isn't proxying. However, considering the second comment I think this was an attempt to proxy while phrasing it as a question to get around it. My AGF with this user has well and truly run out. Hopefully they will take my advice about not using UTRS for 3 months, otherwise it will make a future unblock request very difficult. Reminds me of someone

Hi, I know you're busy clerking at ArbCom, but I thought I'd give you a break. :-) Jsfodness created an account on April 26. After creating a userpage and Talk page, their first two edits were to create AfDs. Since then, they've created several more (mostly with merit I believe), started using Twinkle as soon as they could, and then, most recently, created reports at SPI, which is where I noticed them. This kind of conduct reminds me of someone, but I can't remember who it is.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:06, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure who this might remind you of, but certainly this user has been around Wikipedia in some capacity before creating their account (whether this just be reading the internal pages, editing as an IP or a clean start, or maybe socking). New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Dreamy Jazz,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 816 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Trace Cureton socks

Hey. I know you have had a fair bit to do with Draft:Trace Cureton and the socks over the years [29] [30]. Just wanted to get your opinion on the recent editors, DameGilbert14 and Pamelagoo. It's got to be related as who else would know about that draft – random editors don't just come across drafts. They also both have similar user pages to those of Ausbasketvic and Youngjtdyt (one line with a "hi/hello"). DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:42, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

Also, this IP's talk page post is very similar to that of Ausbasketvic and Youngjtdyt. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:43, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
Furthermore, nearly every single reference featured at Draft:Trace Cureton is also listed at tracecureton.com where we had similar dubious promotion happening last year with Wikipedia being listed at that website. It's clear the people connected to the subject are still at large thinking time will heal the wounds. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:51, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

@Pahlevun, this report has been archived for more than 20 days and in that time someone has not reverted the automatic archiving. New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Dreamy Jazz,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here.   Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 10443 articles, as of 02:00, 16 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

@Apachekamumbai if you think the article is not notable enough then you can nominate it for deletion or use Talk:Andrew Oyombe to explain, ideally with sources, why the information is incorrect. You can also edit yourself, but if you do you should provide a reason in the edit summary as to why you are removing it. This is because we cannot verify currently who you are as anyone can sign up with a username and say they are a person with an article.
The current source used to cite this information, which is the book African Footballers in Sweden Race, Immigration, and Integration in the Age of Globalization, supports the text as written. This means that you will probably need to get this source corrected by the author. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 08:31, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

You appear to have attempted to edit the article about yourself, and also posted a request on its Talk page last year: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Andrew_Oyombe>. It seems you tried to use multiple accounts, which violates Wikipedia's Terms of Use: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Apachekamumbai>.
You should not be directly editing the article about you. Please read: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Autobiography>. Basically, post suggested changes on the Talk page instead of editing the article.
Of course, you are in possibly the best position to notice errors. We do have a process for informing us of problems, and ideally, proposing specific edits to improve the article. See the following page for the process: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Edit_requests>
Your request from last year was unclear, which is probably why it was not fully acted upon. It seems that the only change you wished to be made is to remove this sentence: "He went back to Kenya after a few years only to return to Sweden as a political refugee in 2010, subsequently joining Skärhamns while awaiting a ruling on his asylum."
Yet, that sentence is cited to this reference: <https://books.google.com/books?id=bGreCgAAQBAJ&dq=andrew+oyombe+Skärhamns+IK&pg=PA1916#v=onepage&q=andrew%20oyombe%20Skärhamns%20IK&f=false>. The reference supports the facts stated in the sentence.
If you wish it to be changed because the sentence is not true, you need to provide an equally valid, reliable, third party source for any alternate language you wish to appear in the article.
We don't edit the encyclopedia via email. Go back to the Talk page and present your proposed changes there so that the community of volunteers can decide, by consensus, on the content of the article.
Yours sincerely,
Geoffrey Lane
Thats after i have followed your advice and sent my documents for verification about me and gladly she has verified its me so told to come back to you thanks

Mentorship

"GrowthExperiments log 21:16 Dreamy Jazz talk contribs set Melecie as the mentor of Asylum2021 (previous mentor Dreamy Jazz) ‎(Dreamy Jazz retired from mentorship.)"

What a weird thing? So people can randomly appoint someone else as the mentor of whoever they want, e.g. in this case an indef blocked accunt with very little chance of ever returning? And neither the new mentor nor the mentoree gets a talk page message about this? Seems like a rather problematic experiment. Fram (talk) 08:12, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

@Dreamy Jazz - is there a reason that Guswen has avoided being blocked (or, afaict, sanctioned if not blocked), given sockpuppetry and canvassing violations? I'm not an SPI regular, so I don't know if there's a norm I'm missing. Nosebagbear (talk) 09:28, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
@Nosebagbear there is nothing that has prevented them being blocked / sanctioned, just that there is a backlog of cases at SPI which has left the case waiting for an admin to pick it up. When I confirm a connection between two accounts when neither is already indef blocked and they have made constructive contributions I usually leave it up to patrolling admins to block / clerks to make recommendations as I'm usually not entirely familiar with the editing history of an account (unless it's only made a handful of edits) and it gives extra opinions into what the best action is. I'll go and deal with this now. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 10:09, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Help retrieving text of a deleted page

Hi. I hope I am doing this in the correct place. If I'm not, I apologize in advance. I am trying to get the text from a page that was deleted. The page was for a person named Reid Mihalko. I assume the url was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reid_Mihalko Thank you very much. BKX55 (talk) 22:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

@BKX55 why do you want this content? Also I presume you are not after content written from 2011? Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 23:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I knew that there used to be Wikipedia article about him. I tried looking it up and saw it was gone. So I am considering maybe starting a new article. I thought that maybe the previous content could be helpful so that I wouldn't need to start from scratch. BKX55 (talk) 01:53, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
The content from 2011 at that title that is deleted is promotionally written and so would need a full re-write. Also is the Reid Mihalko you are talking about born in January 28, 1968? If not then the deleted content is not about the person you want to write a draft for, and I can't find any other deleted content with this name. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 11:50, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Got it, a full rewrite it is then. Yes that is the same person I am thinking of. Thank you again for your time. BKX55 (talk) 14:47, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
No problem. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 15:12, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Sorry to reopen this. I'm learning more and coming up with new questions. It seems like the original page I saw was fine and Wikipedia had no problem with it, but then someone tried to change it a lot and the page was deemed to be promotional, like you said. Is there a way to reinstate the page that existed before the changes that made it sound like promotional content? Do you have access to previous versions of Wikipedia pages or is that not something Wikipedia keeps? And if you do have access to the page that was not deemed promotional, may I ask you to undelete that? I apologize if these are really basic questions. BKX55 (talk) 21:13, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Pretty much all the revisions of the draft are promotionally written and the versions before a large expansion in promotional material contained very little sources (only to the person's own website). The only content not promotionally written is the very short lede (around a sentence) that says his date of birth + what he founded but this is also not sourced. New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Dreamy Jazz,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
