Haiti Olympic GAN

Thanks for doing this review as well. I've resolved the comment (along with some stuff relating to disambiguation links) and I think it is ready for a second look. --Starstriker7(Talk) 16:45, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Top Thrill Dragster GA

Hey I just wanted to let you know that I listed Top Thrill Dragster for GAN and I was wondering if you were interested in reviewing it. If not, it's no problem.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:45, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Sure, no problem!--Dom497 (talk) 19:47, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

M-205 and M-227

Both of your requested changes weren't necessary as the details you requested are already present in the articles. Imzadi 1979  22:30, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Mentor

Hi Dom. I see you have your name down as GA mentor. That is great and the more mentors we have the better. However considering what you have written besides your name, I just wanted to check that you knew what being a mentor meant. Basically you have volunteered to help new or inexperienced reviewers with the review process. They should be able to ask you for advice or to check on any of their reviews for them. It doesn't have anything to do with finding reviewers for certain articles, which is what your statement seemed to suggest to me. Regards AIRcorn (talk) 07:51, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Header images

Hi, Dom. As promised, I bear news. From what I understand, MOS:ACCESS details that articles should be made as accessible to read as possible for as many audiences as possible. The images situated in the article headers are not readable by certain devices that can access Wikipedia. Since they do not add any real value to the article, they should be systematically removed as encountered. --Starstriker7(Talk) 22:58, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Maverick GAN

Hey I just wanted to let you know I listed Maverick (roller coaster) for GAN and I was wondering if you were interested in reviewing it since you have reviewed the others.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:06, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

I'll get started on it!--Dom497 (talk) 23:46, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Future GANs

Hello again. When I nominate articles in the future, do you want me to leave you a message whenever I list them? Do you want me to only notify you if they're roller coaster related? Or will you just see on the GA listing? Btw, I left a message on the Wing Coaster talk page regarding the first labels showing up.--Astros4477 (talk) 04:35, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I prefer to review amusement articles but if the article is in regard of a topic that I am interested it or want to learn more about, I'll review it. You can notify me on my talk page if you wish.--Dom497 (talk) 20:10, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh, and I commented on the Wing Coaster talk page.--Dom497 (talk) 20:11, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Talk:Bangladesh at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games/GA2

Hi Dom497, Thanks for your note on my talkpage. Its a bit more than that. I looked at the review over time. At this point [1] it was put On Hold by you only to allow time for pictures; then Stfg [2] pointed out that this was not a requirement of GA. Bill william compton then raised concerns over the review, as did Stfg. From the subsequent discussions on the /GA2 page it looks like your review was inadequate: some of the discussions between Bill and Stfg were over matters of "personal taste" (and therefore not relevant), but the rest concerned grammar and citations and your review here had ticked them off as compliant. Pyrotec (talk) 21:34, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Coaster layouts

I feel like the coaster layouts make the infoboxes too long. Especially with Top Thrill Dragster.--Astros4477 (talk) 01:07, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Is there a way to possibly "collapse" the image in the infobox?--Dom497 (talk) 11:18, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Update: Take a look at my sandbox. Could this work?--Dom497 (talk) 19:30, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I personally think the layout is a bit too much for the infobox even with the collapsible panel. I'm sure the image could be used elsewhere within the article though. See Road Runner Rollercoaster or Dragon Challenge as examples. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:53, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Westcoaster images

Hey, just checking regarding the permissions for those Westcoaster images I spoke to you about a while ago. Did Jim Disney give explicit permission to use those exact images? If he didn't they'll need to be deleted. If he did, could you please make sure the email has been forwarded to the OTRS service. Thanks Themeparkgc  Talk  06:57, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Here's the short conversation we had:

Me: Hello, its me agian, Dom497. As you may remember, last year I requested that you can let me use some of the WindSeeker pictures on Wikipedia. In the end, you let me use some of the WindSeeker pictures and because of that, some users at Wikipedia have asked me to request to you if we could use some of your Cars Land and Manta pictures on Wikipedia on the Cars Land and Man articles. Just like last time, the two licenses that Wikipedia accepts are:

- Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 - Creative Commons Attribution 3.0

You will receive full credit for all the photo(s) used. Even if you do not give me permission, please send a message back stating your final decision.

Thank-you!

--Dom497

Jim Disney: That's fine. You can use them.

From what I understand, he gave me permission to use any pictures of Cars and Manta. But you have to take into consideration that I never told him what exact pictures I wanted...--Dom497 (talk) 19:20, 26 July 2012 (UTC)--Dom497 (talk) 11:22, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Since he didn't give explicit permission for those images I selected they will eventually be deleted. I think I have found a lot of substitutes though. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:39, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Jason Kipnis

I nominated Jason Kipnis for GAN. I'm not sure how familiar you are with American baseball but feel free to review it if you wish. Thanks, --Astros4477 (talk) 19:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Bolliger & Mabillard

Hi, Dom497, I've begun the copy-edit you requested for the above article at the GOCE request page. Please feel free to contact me, or to correct or revert my edits if I'm doing something I shouldn't. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 23:43, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Done. There are a couple of points to note: I flagged a use of 'recently' and one of 'In the past' with [when?] - you should qualify these statements with a definite date or year. Also I note you've used YouTube as a reference source; that isn't usually considered reliable and might be flagged at GA. Otherwise it's looking good to me. Please feel free to contact me about any ongoing issues relating to the copy-edit, and good luck with your GA nomination. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 01:58, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Bolliger & Mabillard (2)

Hi there. Funny about that, I was thinking of taking it on next week, after the Olympics, then Baffle gab1978 beat me to it. Are you planning to put Windseeker up for FAC any time soon? Rgds, --Stfg (talk) 09:01, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Regarding WindSeeker, at this point of time it is not worth it. There are still things from your review that still need to be addressed and the fact that August and September is when Cedar Fair makes its 2013 attraction announcements and that WindSeeker seems to be in mass production mode raises the chances that another WindSeeker(s) will be manufactured for 2013.--Dom497 (talk) 12:05, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll drop it from my watchlist for now. If you'd like me to take another look sometime, do drop me a line. --Stfg (talk) 12:45, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Vacation

Hello, I'm leaving for a vacation to Disney World tomorrow and I will not be able to be on Wikipedia when Cedar Point announces the new roller coaster. Could you move User:Astros4477/CP Alt.Winged into namespace? I already have as much information as possible in the article. I would just like it to be moved into name space and hopefully developed. I should be able to make it on Wikipedia from time to time but I most likely will not have time to fully develop the article and update all the other articles. Btw, I have left the same message on Themeparkgc's page because one of you might not be on at the time of the announcement at 3:30 PM on Monday. Thank you very much! --Astros4477 (talk) 16:40, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunatly, I won't be able to move the article until around 5pm EST (unless themeparkgc already has at 330). I got to teach kids how to swim until 4 so that's why I won't be around. Sorry. Hope you have a great time at Disney!--Dom497 (talk) 17:17, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

GateKeeper records

All the records that news articles list just say the longest and the biggest drop, where does it say fastest?--Astros4477 (talk) 20:47, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Oh, I was using this.--Dom497 (talk) 20:56, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I just finished watching the press conference from Pointbuzz and from what I understand, the newspapers have not included the "fastest wing coaster" because no one knows the speed of the wing coaster in China...if the one in China is slower, then Cedar Point's will be the fastest.--Dom497 (talk) 21:40, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Ok, we'll just have to wait and see.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:47, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
O btw, could you take a look at the edits that are being done at List of roller coaster rankings dealing with GateKeeper? I don't have time to look into if it's an actual inversion so could you look into it please?--Astros4477 (talk) 22:53, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
A "Wing Over" is an inversion. It is also known as a Dive Drop.--Dom497 (talk) 23:59, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Just about to post an unrelated message on this talk page when I saw this. Wing Over Drop and Dive Drop are the same. I think we stick with Dive Drop for now as that is what two installations call it as there is a chance that a Wing Over Drop is a term coined by Cedar Point. As for the Wing Coaster going in at Ocean Kingdom in China, nothing is known about it yet. It could end up being longer, taller, faster etc than GateKeeper. Finally, List of roller coaster rankings should only deal with roller coasters that are operating currently. This guideline was imposed so general information that may be sourced from rumours etc don't make it onto the page. It also prevents any existing coaster which is the record holder from being bumped down making it look like it has already lost the record. Themeparkgc  Talk  04:26, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Kipling Station GA nomination

There is one very basic thing I do not understand. How can an almost Good Article simply be left to rot as Start-Class. That is a huge difference in assessment and in my mind diminishes the whole process. I appreciate what you did in laying out what was required to bring this article up to GA standards, but I can't see how it is a matter of all or nothing. Thank you again. While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. HalloWeekends GA

Hey Dom, I've been expanding the HalloWeekends article and I'm thinking about preparing it for GA. Would this be considered an acceptable source? That's the only source that really has the full history of HalloWeekends. I can find the history after 2008.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:09, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Its an iffy source because its reliability is questionable. If it was a blog like News Plus Notes, then it would probably be considered more reliable. Some reviewers may accept it and some may not. I would be fine with it.--Dom497 (talk) 20:15, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:25, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:15, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I am not an inactive participant of the project, but I am disinclined to sign up for newsletters and other notices. I would prefer my name to be simply removed than to labelled "inactive"! SilkTork ✔Tea time 15:36, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
If you do not want to get newsletters via your talk page, remove your name from this page. The page link I sent out earlier today are to show who is active or not, not to see who wants to get newsletters. Therefore, if you are still active, just to keep everything organized, please sign your name here--Dom497 (talk) 16:57, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

OK, what I have done is remove my name from the project (I am a participant in many projects where I am not signed up). Would you please remove my name from any other list you may have already created, and not add it to any other list. Well done on what you are doing for the project - it is necessary to clean up project listings from time to time, and well done for getting it together, and also for your energy in moving forward with plans to reinvigorate the project. Newsletter

Hey, i am thinking about writing the newsletter's feature for November. And also adding several things I have in mind like the good articles that became featured articles in that month, delisted good articles, number of reviews held during the month and so on. I'd like to also have an image on the newsletter, you know, to add style and colour :) Any additional suggestions from you? — ΛΧΣ21 04:04, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

I have no problem with that, I'll be creating the newsletter development page in my user space soon so you can add what ever you want there. I was thinking of re-starting the Reviewer of the Month but there's no way I would have time to go through each and every review. One of my more chessy thoughts were to re-name the newsletter to something like "The Good Times" (like the New York Times, get it?) but ya...highly doubt that will happen.--Dom497 (talk) 12:29, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Souleymane Doukara

Hi Dom! I've read what you have written me in my talk page about the article Souleymane Doukara. I don't understand why have you tagged the article as "unreferenced", since in the "External links" section you can see three links which cover every information mentioned in the article. I know they are in Italian, but the statistics part can be easily read. If you tell me more specifically what should I do to help the article, I'll be glad to collaborate. :-) This was my first time as an article creator here on en.wiki, I've created more than 2,000 articles on it.wiki but obviously we have different article standards. :-) --Triple 8 (talk) 19:52, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I don't know how the Italian Wikipedia works but here, articles should have a reference section with a list of references. External Links are for links that are related to the topic but not directly references. Therefore, see any article that has a list of references to see how to add references. This article can also be helpful. Here's a step by step guide:
  • Create a "Reference" section in the article. In the section, include "reflist". Make sure to put the {{ }} around of the word.
  • Next, go edit the article, and click on the end of the sentence that you want to cite.

Ok! Thank you! The Italian WP works almost the same way, but external links are considered valid sources, too. :-) --Triple 8 (talk) 07:21, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Martin Luther (steam locomotive)

Hi,

I’m afraid this is pretty much the sources that are available. But the book by Ursula Massmann is the authority on all things Swakopmund, so I don’t seem much of a problem here. Some of the same info is also presented in the Swakopmund Museum, which could be used as a third source (I have a photo of their caption to their photo). Personally, I would not mind using just one source, provided that it is a good and a reliable one. If I had my Lonely Planet book on hand, it could be used as well, but then again, both they and everyone else uses Massmann as their source. So having multiple pointers to the same original source, doesn’t really achieve anything in my opinion. But thanks for the comment anyway. Panu Hallamaa (talk) 20:01, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

One source is allowed on Wikipedia, it is just not preferred.--Dom497 (talk) 00:27, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Are we sure that B&M have entirely ditched their symbol from the logo? It could just be the way they want to display it on the website. In the mean time, I've replaced your version from the website with an SVG copy based off the full logo. Themeparkgc  Talk  03:13, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

I had a discussion with an admin about the source of the photo and after he looked into the past of the deleted photo, and I looked on the internet, we both couldn't find where the image could of possible come from. For all we knew, it could have been a made up logo. He suggested for the image to be deleted and replaced with the one on the website.--Dom497 (talk) 11:00, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
mmmn... that's interesting. It seems it was their symbol at one point in time. Maybe it came from one of the publications they distribute to trade magazines or maybe it came from B&M themselves who wanted their logo on Wikipedia. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:05, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
I saw that website, but I have a hard time believing that Walter himself owned the website at the time. From what the text says, it looks more like a fansite at the time meaning that it wan't the official logo. Just take a look from the September 5, 2000 post...I'm pretty sure Bolliger and/or Mabillard weren't in collage at the time...--Dom497 (talk) 22:35, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't really look into the website too much. I'd think it would be very unlikely that someone just made the logo themselves though. I am guessing they only had the wordmark in the brochure JlACEer sent to you, correct? Themeparkgc  Talk  22:38, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Actually, no. The brochure just has the text.--Dom497 (talk) 22:53, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
And the Dive Coaster wasn't included....--Dom497 (talk) 22:57, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
I'll ask him to see if there is any record of it in the older brochures. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:00, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Looking at what I have at home, I don't see that logo used on any of the material I have here, and that includes some older single-page fliers of the Diving Coaster. There is a lot more material at the office, I'll take a look next week when I am there. I also looked at photos of their booth at the 2011 IAAPA trade show and that logo does not appear anywhere. This is the logo that we typically see in use. Even if the logo currently on this page was used at one time, I don't think we should use it now.JlACEer (talk) 19:05, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
So the wordmark currently in use in the B&M article and website is accurate? Themeparkgc  Talk  04:33, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes.--Dom497 (talk) 11:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
I agree, we typically see just the words in that particular font.JlACEer (talk) 15:00, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I just thought I would let you know, I did find the logo with the diamond symbol on one of their old catalogs. Unfortunately none of these are dated but it only features the sitting, stand-up and inverted coaster as well as spare parts and trains (Psyclone). It has a picture of Raptor, so I would guess it is from 1995 or 1996. None of the other catalogs we have on file use that logo. It appears to have been very short-lived.JlACEer (talk) 14:26, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for all your help!--Dom497 (talk) 20:21, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Info on CW Halloween Haunt

Hey Dom, in the next few days I plan on cleaning up the Halloween Haunt (Canada's Wonderland) article to remove the advert like writing that's from the Haunt website I assume. The Haunt website doesn't list the location of the Haunts in the park so maybe you could help me and add them when I'm done. I'll add charts similar to other Halloween Haunt articles. Btw, welcome to PointBuzz! I noticed you posted something today. My name is Maverick00 incase you didn't see that on my user page.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:38, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

I'll try, just got to find some maps (might be a little hard)...its a little fuzzy in my brain. And thanks! I've had the account for a while but I haven't really used PointBuzz that much...only recently for GateKeeper.--Dom497 (talk) 18:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll get to work on it now and try to find as much info as I can.--Astros4477 (talk) 20:33, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

November newsletter feature

I just started writing the feature for the november GA newsletter. Take a look and tell me whatcha think. It's just an incomplete draft and i'm still writing it and polishing it :) — ΛΧΣ21 04:46, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Overall, its good. The one issue I have is how close it is related to the article in the October newsletter though I'm fine with it being included in November.--Dom497 (talk) 20:08, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Well, if you wish, I can write about another topic and work on this one for a future newsletter. — ΛΧΣ21 02:05, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm not going to say what you can and what can't do. This feature "article" is all you so I'm going to let you do what ever you want with it. Even if you were to work on this topic for a future newsletter, it would still be in the newsletter eventually so including it now or next month makes no difference. What I posted above was just my opinion.--Dom497 (talk) 19:20, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Well, I know i can write about whatever i may want, but i value your opinion too. As we both collaborate to the newsletter, I think we have to agree wich "feature" will be best this month and so on. Sorry if my above comments sounded harsh, it wan't my intention. I was just asking for your advice :) — ΛΧΣ21 19:24, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Harsh? I found it the complete opposite! If anything, sorry if I sounded harsh. I said I'm fine with the topic, its just a matter when to include it. To be honest, the topic would probably be better for December to at least spread out the reference topics.--Dom497 (talk) 19:29, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Ooh well hehe XD Okay. December then. So i will have the time enough to polish it. Also, i was thinking of a better design for the newsletter. You know, a design similar to that of the Signpost, with only a part of the information being sent, and the complete report at an specific page. What do you think? — ΛΧΣ21 19:32, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
It was always in the back of my head to do a complete redesign of the newsletter, I just didn't think I would be able to come up with a decent layout. I like the idea of a newsletter like Signpost I guess we can experiment with a few layouts (just remember that I'm not one of those Wikipedians that know lots about all the different "codes" to make table like stuff :P ).--Dom497 (talk) 19:36, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Haha I can take care of the redesign. I know about coding and stuff. I will start making a draft and come back to you to hear your voice on it :) — ΛΧΣ21 19:38, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Ok, thanks!--Dom497 (talk) 19:41, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Newsletter delivery

Hello,

Your first edition of newsletters have just been distributed successfully. If there are any adjustments you see fit for the bot delivery, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Regards, — JamesR (talk) 05:53, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps you should consider doing some proofreading. I glanced at it and immediately found an error. Under the section "Possible Fall/Winter 2012 Backlog Elimination Drive", you said "A discussion is currently being held on the WikiProject's talk page on weather another eliminations drive should take place within the next few months..." That should be "whether", not "weather". OhanaUnitedTalk page 06:16, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
That would be more of an editorial issue rather than a delivery issue, I'll leave that for Dom497 to respond. — JamesR (talk) 08:57, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
I found an error in how to classify sources. You've confused first-party with primary sources, which is a very common mistake. In your example, a source from Apple in an article about the iPhone 4S would be a first-party source, however depending on the nature of the source, it could be primary or secondary. The party classification can change based on the relationship between an author/publisher and the subject. A map printed by the Michigan Department of Transportation would be a first-party source for an article about a highway in Michigan, but it would be a third-party source for an article about a highway in another state. Wikipedia:Party and person explains all of this very well. Imzadi 1979  17:55, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
Sorry about those mistakes. I would fix them but the way the bot delivered the newsletter would force me to go to each and ever user page and change it manually. I have changed the way the bot delivers the letter so I can fix mistakes from one page for next month.--Dom497 (talk) 19:40, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:28, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Dive Coaster

The article Dive Coaster you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Dive Coaster for things which need to be addressed. John F. Lewis (talk) 19:44, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

AFC Backlog Elimination drive - barnstars

Would you like me to take the barnstar-distributer roll on at the end of the drive - I am willing to do so if necicerry :) Mdann52 (talk) 10:06, 19 October 2012 (UTC)(No talkback needed)

If you would like I guess. Just don't get to ahead of yourself. After the drive ends, no barnstars should be given out until most of the reviews are reviewed to ensure quality remains a priority.--Dom497 (talk) 19:39, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
Do you think This will be useful when it comes to handing out the barnstars at the end? Mdann52 (talk) 07:20, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm not being critical, I just don't understand how some of these procedures will work. --  :- ) Don 21:41, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

What do you mean by "should this be a subpage"? (I know what a subpage is but I don't understand why your saying that).--Dom497 (talk) 21:54, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Can you also read the post I made on the AfC talk page regarding the BED? Thanks!--Dom497 (talk) 21:56, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Okay. I got it. I rewrote the instructions (in my sandbox) for the user list. See if that makes more sense. Also included a sample, which I think will show people how it will look and work. The sample can be removed once an entry has been made. As to the review reviewer part, should use 3 tildes rather than 4 probably, because date + time + article name will be very long. We also have the option of  Y and  N. Nice job, I think you have it under control. --  :- ) Don 22:48, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Dom, I suggest you line up an administrator as an arbitrator. I know we are going to have disputes. Or maybe have 2 other Review reviewers review when there is a dispute? Sounds like Buffalo buffalo buffalo. -- :- ) Don 23:33, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
You wanna do it? :P If not, I don't really know what user is interested in what but I will be sending out a message to all AfC participants at 00:00 so I guess I can include it in that message.--Dom497 (talk) 23:35, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
I can look for an administrator if you like. I think an administrator would be best or have two other equals look at it for a best 2 out of 3. -- :- ) Don 23:37, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
Please! (Hint hint...you will be getting a _______ from me soon for your help! (No not a car or money) ;) )--Dom497 (talk) 23:39, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Just kidding. Have u been to the coasters at Hershey Park, PA.? -- :- ) Don 23:46, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
Nope, but I did hear that Skyrush's restraints are horrible but the other then that it is fun. The only amusment parks I've been to is Canada's Wonderland, Disney World, and Marineland (doesn't really count). I mainly follow news about amusement parks from Screamscape. My fam was planning to go to Cedar Point but it never happened. I'm hoping to go to other amusement parks in the states eventually.--Dom497 (talk) 23:49, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

YEAH!! My niece went to Cedar Point, I as so jealous. She's the only other family member who will ride with me. Hershey Park has the Comet with I rode as a kid, so it's prehistoric now. :p Nervous??? -- :- ) Don 23:54, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

October - November 2012 Backlog Elimination Drive - Rules question

What if they forget to place the {{WPBiography}} template on the talk page? -- :- ) Don 02:03, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Toronto, we have a problem(s). Bentpuc if possibly too new to be doing reviews. I think I'm going to have to redo most all of them. Mdann52 has asked to mark as reviewed on using the WP:CURATOR tool, whatever that is. Bentpuc tried to do entries to log also, but I guess could not figure out. I'm not sure if I should enter them, he will end up with a zero. What do you want to do boss? Should I have chat with Bentpuc? Should we delete the Curator? Also, Ritchie333 wants to add comments all over your nice table. Shall we clean those? -- :- ) Don 13:55, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
The Curator tool is the new tool they want people to use in WP:NPP - I thought nif we were reviewing, we might as well use that to save it being reviewed again at a later date. Mdann52 (talk) 16:19, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Regarding your first post, can you be more specific? About your second post, you can leave a message on his talk page if you want. And to Mdann52, I know about the curator tool but I'm kinda confused of what you want to use it for in relation to the drive.--Dom497 (talk) 17:12, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
@Dom497 - Nice move with the [show] it was really getting messy. I tried to clean up and footnote stuff so not so confusing to account. Left a message on Bentpuc talk page, he only has a few hundred edits, and AfC is not the place to get your feet wet. @Mdann52 - Being that Curator is new, lets not confuse the mess at this point. I'm impressed with the dent made so far. But I really don't have much extra time right now. -- :- ) Don 17:28, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Question about the backlog drive.

When do the counts increase? I've listed eight, and only one has been reviewed. It says on the drive page that I have four, so how are the totals counted, and when do they increase? CharmlessCoin (talk) 20:38, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

You gotta do it on your own! I know its a pain but look, I'm not the one who came up with that idea or even got to voice my opinion on it...--Dom497 (talk) 23:10, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
So, you review your own reviews? Seems a bit odd. I don't mind the actual listing them myself, I just wish the count would increase along with it when they're put down on the created page. CharmlessCoin (talk) 00:55, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't understand what your talking about. Are you talking about the "Has reviewed" section under your name on the drive page or reviewing reviews?--Dom497 (talk) 18:44, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that was worded poorly. I assumed that the "Has reviewed" section would show the proper number of reviews automatically, but that's not the case.
Ya, sorry. You got to do it manually.--Dom497 (talk) 18:52, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Question About the Backlog Drive

Hi! I entered my username, B. Jakob T., under the running totals in the backlog drive's page. I am confused, however, on how to prove which articles I have reviewed. So far, I have only reviewed one article. Thanks, B. Jakob T. (talk) 23:07, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

I have fixed your first entry. Please see that and tell me if you still don't understand. The part that says "Pass" and has my name beside it means that I have reviewed your review and that it was done properly.--Dom497 (talk) 12:09, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I reviewed another article, make yourrrrrrr (the name of the AFC), but I am unsure how to to add it to my list. If you would help me, that would be great. -B. Jakob T. (talk) 15:43, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
K, so go to the article (make yourrrrrr) page. Click on the "View History" tab. This can be found to the right of the "Read" and "Edit" tabs. Once there, beside "(cur|prev)" you will see a number of circles that can be clicked on. Make sure the right circle is selected on the edit you made when you passed or failed the article and the left circle on the edit before. Then click on "Compare selected revisions". Copy the URL. Then go to the sub-page where you record your reviews and place it and the article name in this format: [URL GOES HERE article name goes here]. Click save and your done.--Dom497 (talk) 16:52, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea! When I wanted to inform the user that created the AFC that I had declined their submission, it sent the decline notice to me!! So I just went to the users talk page and put the notice there. -B. Jakob T. (talk) 14:08, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Are you using the script?--Dom497 (talk) 14:09, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Actually no, I installed it, but it's not working, so I'm reviewing manually. I posted a question about that subject two days ago on the talk page for reviewers, but no one has answered. --B. Jakob T. (talk) 14:14, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Have you clicked on the down arrow beside the "view history" tab when you are on an article you want to review?--Dom497 (talk) 14:16, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't see an arrow, most likely because I'm not hooked up to Wikimedia. However, I don't mind doing it manually. --B. Jakob T. (talk) 14:22, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Wilhelmina Will has given you some caramel and a candy apple! Caramel and candy-coated apples are fun Halloween treats, and promote WikiLove on Halloween. Hopefully these have made your Halloween (and the proceeding days) much sweeter. Happy Halloween!

If Trick-or-treaters come your way, add {{subst:Halloween apples}} to their talkpage with a spoooooky message!

Cheers! :) Like my singing? Ha-la-la-la-la-la-LA-LAAA!!! (talk) 23:24, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

User Menu Box

Hey Dom, I just created a Menu Box for my user pages. I saw you said you were also interested in creating one on Themeparkgc's talk page. I have created a subpage that I just copy and pasted random users Menus. I took parts from each one and that helped me. If you're interested in ideas, you can find the page here. Hope this helps,--Astros4477 (talk) 18:55, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Ok, thanks!--Dom497 (talk) 20:16, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

RFC

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that i reworded the proposal 3 at the GAN Backlog Drives RFC. So, you may want to take a look. — ΛΧΣ21 18:28, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Manta (SeaWorld Orlando), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sea dragons (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

GA query

Hi there i was wondering if you could give me some help when nominating an article for GA on a talkpage.

I know after topic= i put the subtopic, such as, Art and architecture, but im not sure what to put after page= do i put the number 1 or do i leave this blank, if so does it put 1 there automatically when i save the page. Sorry for being a bore, but ive never nominated or reviewed a article before and would very much like to start, thankyou, Mary 92.41.223.176 (talk) 15:04, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Put page=1 §h₳un 9∞76 15:05, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
It depends on if the article is being nominated for the first time, if so, put the number 1. If its the second time, put 2, if its the third put 3, and so on.--Dom497 (talk) 19:31, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Backlog Elimination Drive Barnstars

Hi! you may think this is silly, but my question is such. I have reviewed 45 or more AFC's in the Backlog Elimination Drive. When the drive is over, do I get the Brownie barnstar, The Invisible Barnstar, and The Working Man's Barnstar. Or do I only get The Working Man's Barnstar? The reason I was interested was because I only have Guestbook barnstars. Thanks, B. Jakob T. (talk) 00:02, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

You will only get one barnstar. In your case, you will only get the Working Man's Barnstar but if you get to 60, then you "upgrade" to the Tireless Contributor. Same applies for the other barnstars.--Dom497 (talk) 23:56, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for clearing things up! B. Jakob T. (talk) 15:41, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:55, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

GA?

Hey Dom, I know you are busy with school and stuff but I was wondering if you'd be willing to review Justice League: Alien Invasion 3D. I'd be willing to reciprocate by reviewing one of your pending articles. Kind regards Themeparkgc  Talk  05:27, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

I might, depends on what I have going on in life.--Dom497 (talk) 17:48, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Edit summaries

I apologise for interrupting, but I'd strongly recommend that you include edit summaries whenever possible, especially in a project namespace, as it provides an explanation to others regarding your intentions: calculator. Thanks, Mephistophelian (contact) 17:39, 23 November 2012 (UTC).

Ya sorry about that. Its a habit I've gotten into to.--Dom497 (talk) 17:40, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

AfC newsletter

I saw you deleted the prototype of the newsletter. Can I assume this means you don't want to work on it any more? --Nathan2055talk - contribs 18:56, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Well, one, I'm being slammed with work at school so I don't have much free time here, and two, no one else has worked on it.--Dom497 (talk) 20:29, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Articles for creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1030 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our help desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. Plus, reviewing is easy when you use our new semi-automated reviewing script!
Thanks in advance, Nathan2055talk - contribs

User:Dom497/AFC Newsletter

Just a note about this page — I've undeleted it by the request of Nathan2055; since you didn't want it, I've moved it to User:Nathan2055/sandbox/afcnewsletter without leaving a redirect. I wouldn't normally do this, but I fulfilled Nathan's request because he wanted it and had been a major contributor to the page. Nyttend (talk) 23:38, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Apocalypse GAN

Hey Dom, I understand you've been busy with school lately. Would you like me to help on your Apocalypse GAN? I wasn't sure if you'd have time to finish the review.--Astros4477 (talk) 03:57, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I've addressed a lot of the issues highlighted in the review. I think there are only about 6 issues that need resolving. Themeparkgc  Talk  08:35, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you sooooo much! I've gotten alot of projects to do and have had limited time here as you can tell. Thanks again!--Dom497 (talk) 19:53, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Newsletter delivery

Good evening, firstly I'd like to apologise for the delay in the delivery of the newsletter. The bot process was stuck from a previous request and needed a manual restart to get it progressing. I have a question in relation to the delivery of newsletters. The bot is having difficulties writing to a handful of talk pages which are very large in size (i.e. have not been archived regularly). While the bot has a built in regulator to restart the write to a page it has difficulty with, this is sometimes writing twice to some talk pages and I am having to manually undo one revision manually. Would you like the bot to record the pages it has difficulty with and remove these users from the delivery list for next month? I'd appreciate to hear your thoughts on the matter. Sincerely, — JamesR (talk) 11:40, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

If you could give me a list of the users that would be great!--Dom497 (talk) 21:14, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

WP:WPGA Newsletter delivery

Just a minor point, but it's useful, when your bot delivers a newsletter to all its participants, that you place the bot's signature at the very end of the message, as my bot normally does here when distributing the WikiProject Video games newsletter. If you don't do that, then bots will be unable to archive the newsletter when needed, as evidenced on my talk page. Hope that helps, --MuZemike 03:36, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
