My Fata Morgana pics - please have a look, if you like

Fata Morgana mirage pic 1 at Budle Bay: Talk Page discussion attempt is here ...

Well. So. I've uploaded three new photos of this surprising mirage, seen earlier this year in Northumberland, and offered them here where I am trying not to be pushy about it ... without having a properly detached view on whether they are any good ... without knowing how long it might be before anyone notices them ... and without seeing the usernames of any of my regular co-editors in the article history! So do please feel free to have a look, but no rush – this is not a big deal and the sum of human knowledge will not change massively one way or t'other. I have approached one other editor who was a significant past contributor but her current involvement is unclear and she doesn't know me from Adam, so ... yeah. Another early major editor was cast into Outer Darkness some time ago, details unknown ... so, again, yeah. Best to all, DBaK (talk) 15:20, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning up my sloppy prose. You probably noticed, but in case you didn't, it's at FAC at the moment, if you fancied reviewing it... Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 14:45, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

You're very very welcome Girth Summit and yes I had noticed – I maybe saw you alerting another editor and that is why I looked, because it sounded interesting! I'm a bit rubbish at all that formal stuff, tbh, but I will try to have a look in and see if I can offer anything remotely useful. Cheers DBaK (talk) 16:51, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
Ah yes - Gog mentored me through my first FAC, so thought I'd drop him a note about this one. Thanks for anything you can offer, appreciate what you've done already. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 18:03, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

"funnels or spouts"

In my extremely slow trudge at the history of music article, I've just come across the Ancient Persian "Oxus trumpets" (c. 2200–1750!) which are so small that some think they're not trumpets at all but "funnels or spouts". This seems like something you need to know... perhaps the reasonable conclusion is that all trumpets are nothing more than "funnels or spouts"? Aza24 (talk) 07:21, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Ah yes, Aza24, I fear that you have hit upon the essential truth of my entire career right there ... funnels or spouts ... who knows??? :) DBaK (talk) 21:55, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

And yes, my depository of trumpet slander is vast...! Aza24 (talk) 07:22, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Keep going, keep going, love it all ... DBaK (talk) 21:55, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
See the thing with you trumpeters is that you do the slandering yourselves! Case in point: see 3:50–3:56... eek Aza24 (talk) 21:30, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
Eek indeed, Aza24 – nice little mini-nightmare right there. If I had a pound for every time I etc etc cont, p. 94 ... DBaK (talk) 08:31, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) But let's not forget... true genius. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
Wow, thanks Martinevans123 – what an interesting pair of links and what great brass on the Wyatt! I am ashamed to say I didn't know about Mongezi Feza but I will rectify this asap. Cheers DBaK (talk) 08:34, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I think Rock Bottom is a masterpiece. That final track is a fitting climax to a wonderful album. Feza also appears on Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard. A tragic loss to popular music, at the age of only 30. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:50, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for much trumpet inspiration! - DYK that I was named awesome Wikipedian 11 years ago today OTD? Same day as Brianboulton, which came as a big surprise and nice coincidence when I found out. - Thank you also for speaking for me on the TFA talk. I usually watch FAs forever, but not that one, I usually thank every FA writer on TFA day but not that one because he told me that my thanks are not welcome. I watch the article for today, to help fight vandalism, but will not go to the talk page as feeling extremely unwelcome. There is this belief that an accepted FA version is kind of sacred which I don't support. Why not improve? - If you want to go a step further representing me, go and fix the atrocious indenting in the current discussion about a comma, in respectful memory of RexxS, - the guideline is on my user page and on top of User talk:Drmies (easier to find). It's so easy: copy the indenting you find and add yours ;) - a little step towards more accessibility. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:07, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Today: 2 interesting DYK (I think, one an opera for brass and timpani alone in the orchestra for most of the time), sadly 2 who died (on top of 2 from Poland yesterday), and a concert in which Daniel Barenboim just played piano, - and afterwards he and the orchestra received last year's prize (pictured). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:52, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Today: 3 DYK, including that the author dedicated a summer story to a license plate number ;) - Five rows of images added, sunflowers and butterflies continued, four rows of 15 August alone, - a rich Monteverdi day, - enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:06, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Fabulous, thank you so much Gerda Arendt! DBaK (talk) 21:58, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
(too tired for the September pic) I heard a concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra today, lovely, perhaps you know the trumpet players pictured on my talk? (There was a third for Beethoven 7.) Vasily Petrenko - program says he's now their chief conductor, our article knows nothing about that ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Gerda - I loved that article!! DBaK (talk) 21:43, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! Moar: a rich Main page today: first TFA by promising author, pictured DYK by my friend LouisAlain who is discouraged by an AN discussion, and one of the Recent deaths. Enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:39, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
today: the day of bold red and black, for Dante who died 700 years ago, and Peter Fleischmann who died recently, leaving us films full of vision. Dante: just heard Inferno, imagined by a woman, the main character both speaking and singing with an inner 4-part voice! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:29, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
today: moar music, Beethoven in a different red and black, and my brother was in the orchestra, 10 July! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:19, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
Fabulous, thanks Gerda Arendt for all the above! I got to play some Beethoven also this weekend, and a touch of Schubert. It made a lovely change from months of no-concerts. Cheers DBaK (talk) 11:50, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Great! Rehearsing Rossini, Rheinberger, Mendelssohn and Rutter for real performances! Did you notice the link to my brother in an earlier version? (Fidelio) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:53, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Absolutely, yes I did! Is that him with the bass aloft in the Mitglieder page on their website? I am not sure I can remember his first name or have lost track. Whoever it is, it is a very splendid photo! Cheers DBaK (talk) 12:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
His first name is Gerhard, and he's also pictured in an external link of Der Kontrabaß, and far right on the tuning pic I took of Fidelio. - Today: a woman in red (back to the beginning of the thread), two who died under "in memoriam" and LouisAlain missed - my first editnotice read: "Every editor is a human being" which is quoted from a comment by Geometry guy in a 2012 discussion on WP:AN. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:18, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks also for all this, in case I did not say so before! DBaK (talk) 12:01, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Mark Allred Wikipedia page

I suggest a Wikipedia page be made about Mark Allred as he is a notable figure working at Toledo School for the Arts DoodleZoo (talk) 13:23, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi DoodleZoo! Thank you for the message, and I am very sorry for the slow reply. You might well be right about Allred, but I am afraid that it is not something that I can help with. It can be quite intimidating for new editors to jump in and try to start a new article; however, if you have a look at the links that someone left in the Welcome note on your Talk page, and maybe in particular have a look at the Teahouse – where they specialize in support for new editors – then you might find enough to get you started. Good luck and best wishes DBaK (talk) 11:58, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

BC and BCE etc

Hi, Thanks for the Feedback. I have read the page, and from what I conclude from it, it suggests that there should be a change to CE/BCE when there is no specific reference to Christian/European historical topics (although vague) Also, the wiki states "more neutral and inclusive of non-Christian people is to call this the Current or Common Era (abbreviated as CE)" In this case, an article about Halley's comet, which was also observed in the far east for examples, I would deem it appropriate. Today: DYK #1700, and I uploaded more images, mostly blue and green, for hope. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:33, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Gerda Arendt. I will have a look ... I am finding it hard to stay engaged at the moment. {Makes sad face.) Ho hum. Cheers DBaK (talk) 12:00, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
Today, mostly black&white, and standing upright as Psalm 15 says, - don't look, then. Did I tell you about Ray's rules? I had a conflict between 2. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:21, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", broken by one of us banned), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes, - updated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:40, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
two more today, again one by the gang, and more colour! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:39, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: a scandal, and more fall colours, including a short sermon. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:51, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: memories in friendship --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:39, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment at WP Talk: ROPE

I just wanted to make my appreciation known for your very civil participation in this discussion. Your comment was quite thoughtfully said and you offered some great feedback. Hope you have a nice rest of your day! ––FormalDude talk 00:25, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks FormalDude for your very kind remarks. It is such a tricky area, and involves some people for whom I have the greatest respect, and whom I do not wish to annoy ... but I felt I should try to contribute something. With all good wishes, DBaK (talk) 16:22, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
