Swimming New Zealand

Nice templates, sir!
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Speedy deletion nomination of Swimming New Zealand

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Swimming New Zealand requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from swimming.org.nz/about-us.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on Swimming New Zealand requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Scammell Pioneer revert

Dear User DerbyCountyinNZ: You are an experienced editor with over 20,000 edits and some eight years of editing here at Wikipedia. You surely know better than to brusquely revert an edit like you did mine at the Scammell Pioneer page, "No improvement". It was a lousy passage and my edit - which did not go far enough - was at least an effort to untangle it. All an approach like that taken in summarily reverting it does it set up an edit war; I don't need to quote Wikipedia chapter and verse on its injunction to editors to "Be Bold", etc., etc. I was hardly bold, but the effort was not without merit. If you didn't like it, feel free to improve it, not summarily revert.

That you subsequently did is welcome, and indeed headed off unpleasantness. The truth is, that run-on sentence still needs help - beyond fixing a minor spelling error in your edit I corrected. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 10:40, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

The only potential for unpleasantness is you bringing a minor issue to my talk page and raising the (remote) possibility of an edit war! If you'd merely fixed my typo I'd have probably thanked you for your edit. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 10:59, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Minor to you, not to me. Following form with your above response. My note to you being merely a reminder of showing proper respect for other Wikipedia editors (WP Civility, Good Faith, all that).
On a hunch I decided to look further into the Pioneer page's history and discovered you were the page's original author. First, a thanks for making that effort, as the Pioneer and its history deserve to be recognized and are a welcome addition to the encyclopedia. Second, an apology, if in fact the passage edited - and criticized - was yours somewhere along the line; certainly no personal aspersion was meant. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 11:39, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Susannah Mushatt Jones

Hi Derby, would you mind watching this article for a few days? I have already reverted an IP 3 times for introducing inadequately source material and although it is a BLP violation, I don't want to go over 3. I'm also going to be traveling for a few days. Thanks. --I am One of Many (talk) 23:11, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

I have this on my watchlist. You were correct to revert the information that was added to the infobox, as you said there were no strong ties to American Indians. I have modified the entry in the text to indicate that it is the word of the family that she has American Indian heritage. To quote a "newspaper article that quotes Robert Young who quotes a book written by the family"that says she is part American Indian is not the same as "she is part American Indian". This is too much of a stretch for WP:RS. I am also suspicious of anonymous IPs who refuse to create accounts, clearly have Wiki experience before the use of the current IP, and like to throw inappropriate vandalism accusations around. If I had further evidence I might start a SOCK investigation. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 08:31, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

2015 edits

Dear you have reverted my edits 2015 Pakistani heat wave and 2015 Indian heat wave to 2015 so I want to tell you that these are also events of 2015 in which hundreeds of people died of heat stroke in Karachi as well as in India. So if it meets the event touchstone of 2015 kindly include it.--Jogi don (talk) 04:24, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

2015 is for internationally notable events. Those events have no impact outside Pakistan/India and therefore do not qualify for inclusion. If you feel that they should be included you need to start a discussion at Talk:2015. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:38, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks dear DerbyCountyinNZ, I have discussed above events at Talk:2015.--Jogi don (talk) 08:35, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Scammell Pioneer question

Greetings, User:DerbyCountyin NZ. Do you know if the Scammell Pioneer was adapted as a ballast tractor in military service? This image of a purpose-built Scammell postwar ballast tractor looks suspiciously like something that may have evolved from a Pioneer, whether by Scammell or Pickfords:

Scammell ballast tractor pulling specialist trailer at a fair

Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 02:09, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

This looks like a Scammell Constructor, built in the 1950s. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 02:23, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. You nailed it. Do you know if they were made as ballast tractors? What about the Pioneer? Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 10:45, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Looks like both were, Pioneer, Constructor. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 07:40, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Well, the concrete block on the back of that Pioneer certainly screams "ballast tractor". But was it original? Certainly the Pioneer was used as an artillery tractor in addition to tank transporter and recovery vehicle, but was it actually produced by Scammell as a dedicated ballast tractor? If so, it should be mentioned and cited in its article.

As for the Constructor, one gets the impression from its general look and telltale front pintle hitch on many that it was produced as a ballast tractor. That's why I found the original caption for a Wikipedia image of one describing it as a "purpose built" ballast tractor a bit off. Perhaps customized somehow by Pickfords, but that is another thing.

Shame there is not more on it around, and only the one-word mention at the Scammell article. There's a remarkable picture of one at work as a ballast tractor here, with the caption "(Above) This shot gives you some idea of just what a Constructor was capable of pulling!". Some machine. May 2015

Dear DerbyCountyInNZ,

I would like to know why you keep deleting my edits, especially the ones for Violet Brown. Although you claim my edits are not constructive enough, I personally find no faults, especially when I simply edit Violets birthplace from Jamaica to the Colony of Jamaica. It is indeed a fact that Brown was born in the year 1900, with Jamaica only gaining independence from the UK in about 1962. It is also a fact that Violet was born a year before Queen Victoria's death and consequently the end of Victoria's 64 year reign as the monarch of Great Britian and colonies. With this information, we can conquer Violet is the last living former subject of Queen Victoria, with nobody else born in the UK or a UK colony before Victoria's death in January 1901, so please stop deleting my edits.

Thank You, Crimson&Clover71

Because everything you've added is original research, not to mention trivial fanfluff. Unless you can find a reliable source which has a statement which supports what you added it does not belong in Wikipedia. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 18:20, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Possible sockpuppet of blocked user

Hi there, I'm suspicious about these two IP's, since both have made no edits other than to Talk:List of oldest living people and are both aggressively pushing to remove anonymous entries from the list of oldest living people (despite being verified). I'm wondering if they are the same person as this who was recently blocked. Just thought I'd point this out to you as I'm not sure what the best course of action for me to take is. -- Ollie231213 (talk), 23:34, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

I have wondered about that too. IP 68 is from New Jersey and both IP 208 and 184 are from Indiana. I'd say the latter would probably be worth a Sockpuppet investigation. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:09, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Yasutaro Koide reference sources

Hi. I note that you reverted my earlier edit to the Yasutaro Koide article with a comment that it had made a mess of the references. Was that intentional? My edit of August 22 combined the same Guinness World Records reference that was actually being used twice in the article. As the article now stands, it is duplicated (as refs 3 and 6). I also removed the Chunichi Web Japanese reference source, as that did not appear to provide anything that is not already supported by the above Guinness World Records source (i.e. about not overdoing things, and not drinking or smoking), so it seemed redundant to me. Is there any reason for needing a second source for this? I am still confused as to what actual mess my earlier edit made, and would appreciate it if you could have another look at your edit, as that has re-introduced the same source being used separately twice. Thanks. --DAJF (talk) 05:27, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

When I looked earlier all the references had error messages. I reverted my edit and it looks ok now. No idea what happened, maybe just another temporary Wiki glitch! DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 08:26, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
OK, thanks for checking. It does seem OK now. --DAJF (talk) 14:50, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Australian Supercentenarians

Please refrain from changing the article format from what has been the norm for many years. All articles relating to supercentenarians having living verified cases highlighted green. Now you have decided that you want to buck the trend and make the living cases shown in italics. Why do you want to go against the norm? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crveni5 (talkcontribs) 15:26, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Highlighting in this fashion is against MOS. This has been pointed out on several article talk pages. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:55, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. No problem. Happy New Year. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 02:32, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

No, you are wrong DerbyCountyinNZ; the edits I made to the 2016 were of fairly well known people, you had no right to revert them. Pat Harrington, Jr. was featured in a popular sitcom for the entirety of its run, thats notable. Nicholas Caldwell was the co-founder of a well-known band, thats notable. Indeed you may be right when you say we can't possibly cover everything, but everything I added was notable and deserving of inclusion. If it were to get overcrowded, you could easily move them to a separate article, like most other year articles have done. I am sick of people policing these articles and making it extremely difficult to contribute anything of value. How about I stop contributing all together? As I see it wikipedia's rules are far to confining at times, and policing the articles certainly don't help.--Blakebs (talk) 11:34, 12 January 2016 (CST)

The guidelines at WP:RY are in place to stop endless discussions about who different people think are notable. If someone fails the minimum criteria then they can be included IF a talk page discussion reaches such a consensus. Likewise people can be excluded even if they meet the minimum if there is a consensus that they do not merit inclusion. Over the last 7 or 8 years the latter has been more common. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 02:57, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Blind revert

This revert [1] reinserted a grammar error in the first sentence and the word "verified" which has been found to be restrictive to GRG and not appropriate in related articles. Evidently you did not even check my edit before reverting it, which is very bad form and against policy. Put my edit back and go gain consensus for your proposed changes, because my changes were carefully thought out. Legacypac (talk) 08:46, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

I've returned the lede to the last good version, but without any GRG reference. If you want to change the basic concept of the article then start a discussion and gain consensus. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 08:51, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

The importance of age validation

I suggest you read this paper on age validation: On the age validation of supercentenarians --Sailor Haumea (talk) 00:45, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

I won't bother as it has NO bearing on how Wikipedia works. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:53, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Which supercentenarians are notable?

I think we should come to a consensus as to which supercentenarians are notable enough for their own article.

My proposal:

-Cases over the age of 114 are the "oldest old". They comprise approximately the top 150. Once you reach age 114, it's highly unusual for you to remain anonymous. It's almost impossible to do so. -World's Oldest Person, World's Oldest Woman, and World's Oldest Man titleholders tend to get good media coverage. However, some cases were denied media attention as they weren't the oldest of their gender (Jean Teillet, Charlie Nelson, Charlie Phillips, and Mathew Beard were eclipsed by the false, then Guinness-verified claim of Shigechiyo Izumi...they were posthumously given the title in 2011 when Izumi lost verification). Most cases have photographs and news coverage...let me find some.

I think this is a fair proposal. Living to age 114 means they almost certainly got coverage...the exception being Lucy Hannah (for whom research suggests she was only 97 anyway...) --Sailor Haumea (talk) 22:28, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

Nature of incorrectness

I presumed this was the sort of incorrect you meant, but just checking. Is there someone else from the 1800s you know survives? If so, add her to the table. If there's something else incorrect, explain, here or in the next reversion edit summary. InedibleHulk (talk) 05:57, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm not following this. (I meant to say the century begins at 1, by the way.} "We" means "the current version of Wikipedia". It still says 1800s. InedibleHulk (talk) 05:59, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

(edit conflict)

The statement in the source you gave is clearly incorrect. Morano is not the last person from the 19th century, there are 2 others on the "verified" list. There will no doubt eventually be a Reliable Source which actually gets this correct but until there is the tag needs to stay. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 06:03, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
The claim we're backing with the source isn't about the 19th century, but the 1800s. I, and the other editor, give leeway for the common-use synonyms, but strictly literally, you've got a point. I don't think it's worth defending a "not in citation" over, but you're technically correct. InedibleHulk (talk) 06:08, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Notability

Please refrain from merging articles for alleged lack of notability without a discussion. At least discuss it on the talk page first! --104.56.23.57 (talk) 00:42, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

As per the MANY previous deletions of non-notable supercentenarians merely being old does NOT justify an article. I'll be taking those articles to Afd in a few hours, unless someone else beats me to it. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:46, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
If supercentenarians aren't notable for their longevity, then random hockey players that are only known for playing hockey aren't notable either, and I'll start nominating those for deletion. --104.56.23.57 (talk) 00:48, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

What prompted the sudden transformation from "getting along with the experts" to "delete all longevity articles"? Maybe I should notify Louis Epstein about the situation... --104.56.23.57 (talk) 00:51, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
I liked Sailor Haumea's proposal above about which cases are notable:

"-Cases over the age of 114 are the "oldest old". Most cases have photographs and news coverage...let me find some."

I'd agree with him/her there, that the oldest person of either gender is notable. It's different for cases like Jean Teillet, who was verified decades afterward by Jean-Marie Robine. --104.56.23.57 (talk) 01:12, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Doing the best with what we have

Good day, this is Meroitic speaking in regard to your unfair accusations of vandalism dealing with the life and death of Vonda Phelps. I am sure we are both aware about the obscurity and lack of information about the late silent film actress. Clearly the dates that IMDB came up with was not pulled out of a hat and since the dates match the ones on findagrave.com, it is safe to assume that the information is reliable and correct. So I do hope you see that I had no ill will and that you may remove the rude and borderline pretentious allegations of vandalism from my user page. I shall be awaiting your response and after if you give no response, I shall take that as a sign of acceptance and ratify my previous edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meroitic (talkcontribs) 19:56, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

I gave a perfectly valid reason for removing your edits which you chose to revert without explanation. As has been repeatedly stated in the edit summaries for the Vonda Phelps article and others on the surviving film stars list IMDB is NOT a reliable source and cannot be used for important information such as a persons death. This violates WP:BLP and is taken very seriously. In such cases where an editor reverts my edits without explanation when they have been told clearly that their edit is not justified I consider it vandalism as such warnings indicate the seriousness of their conduct. While it is more than likely that the dates given are correct Wikipedia places extreme emphasis on verifying such information; "verifiability not truth". Unless you can find a more reliable source than IMDB, or findagrave, repeating your edits, as others have done before, will result in increased warnings. Valerie Adams

When I had a look this morning, the Valerie Adams article did not mention that she's competing in Rio, so I added something. You removed this referenced content in its entirety because you had some issue with aspects of it. Shouldn't you be editing those parts that cause an issue to you? Why remove that she's competing at the 2016 Olympics? What were you thinking? Schwede66 01:21, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Why do you reply on my talk page? Why not reply here to keep this in one place and ping me? Maybe you need to read what I wrote above: "the Valerie Adams article did not mention that she's competing in Rio". I added that. You removed it again. After you removed my addition in its entirety, the article no longer stated that she is competing in Rio. Can you see the problem now that you caused with your unilateral reverse? Schwede66 01:37, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
It wasn't a reply I commented on your talk page at the same time you commented on mine. I missed that there was no previous mention that she was in Rio, it was so obvious I assumed it was there somewhere. The rest is trivial and will be outdated in 20-30 minutes. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:43, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok, sorry for my assumption that you had replied to my comment. You have noticed that the revert was edited, though, haven't you? Schwede66 01:46, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

More WOP Trivia

Hi Derby. Do you happen to remember where the discussion was had about the inclusion of trivial information such as this? I swear I remember a consensus against trivia like "oldest black man", or at least a point where the line was drawn and I'd like to refer to it. If I'm just imagining it, then I think I might start a discussion, since there's much that's problematic about that and I'd like it addressed. Thanks! Canadian Paul 14:36, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

It could be you are thinking of the first discussion at Talk:Misao Okawa, although that was more specifically about the OR milestones. I also remember something about "oldest black" person being trivial, but that may have been because it was usually OR/uncited. I will see keep searching to see if I can find it. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:38, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Hmmm... that might have been what I remembered, in which case it doesn't really apply to Sisnett's page. I'll consider starting a new discussion (somewhere... Sisnett's page? The WOP talk page?), since it's worth getting a clear consensus on, because the addition doesn't sit well with me and I want to see if that's just me or a community thing. Thanks for checking! Canadian Paul 13:18, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
I think its a topic that needs discussion. Clearly any such trivia that has no appropriate citation should be removed. The issue will be if its cited, so an RFC is probably called for. Might be better on the WOP page. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 02:23, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Another related discussion at Talk:Gertrude Weaver. Again refers to trivia in general not "oldest black person" although in her article I note that this was only ever mentioned briefly and its removal caused no fuss! DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:54, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Oldest New Zealander

Hi DCinNZ - I can definitely understand this reversion, though the title of New Zealand's oldest person is a bizarre one. The person who is known as "New Zealand's oldest person" is Annie Mason, who is nine months younger that Madeline Anderson. If someone is older than the oldest, then somehow they're just one of the oldest. For what it's worth (probably nothing) Gerontology wikia lists Madeline as the oldest living New Zealander, with Annie at fourth oldest. I think unless things become clearer, NZ's just going to have to remain off that list. Grutness...wha? 12:15, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

(Rushed respone) The "oldest New Zealander" has been a bugbear ever since I started on Wikipedia. Because of our privacy laws there is no access to census records (I've tried) so there is no way for anyone, press included, to establish who is THE oldest. Not long ago there was a mention somewhere that there were possibly at least 3 people over 110 and many others not far off. The Wikia page is mostly edited by users blocked from editing Wikipedia who now belong to a forum called the "110 Club", which is blocked from use here, but you can find it with a google search. :) DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 17:00, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi, just curious about why some events on the 2016 article were too local and others aren't. Hey, is this the talk page you were talking about if I had any questions about my correction you undid on the Oldest Verified People page? There are reliable sources that indicate that Gertrude Weaver was older than 116 years, 276 days when she passed away. I kept trying to indicate this on the Oldest Verified Page but you or others kept changing it back. According to this website, http://www.grg.org/GWeaver.html, GRG indicates that they give 95% confidence level that Gertrude Weaver was indeed older than having been born July 4, 1898. They indicate an April 1898 birth date, which would put her at 116 years 341 days or older...somewhere between 116 years 341 days and 117 years 5 days, depending on her exact date of birth within the month of April 1898. When I tried to do a [q] next to Gertrude Weaver's birth date like the [p] that is next to Emma Morano's birth date, someone also removed that as well. Originally the [q] next to Gertrude's birth date was to signify that she had another possible birth date, which I had explained below next to the [q] of April 1898 according to GRG. With the source of http://www.grg.org/GWeaver.html, why do people keep undoing this correction every time I make it? Thanks, Jason — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.37.3.51 (talk) 00:11, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Revert your Rvt in Oldest person per country Suggestion

You reverted my contribution to List_of_oldest_people_by_country with following:-"Rvt. No statement that Killain was/is the oldest ever Irish man as required for inclusion in this article."

Please see 1st paragraph of the article which is more forgiving than your revert- Such records can only be determined to the extent that the given country's records are reliable. Comprehensive birth registration is largely a 20th-century phenomenon, so records establishing human longevity are necessarily fragmentary. The earliest comprehensive recordkeeping systems arose in Europe. For example, the United Kingdom organized a central recordkeeping system for England and Wales in 1837, making it compulsory by 1874.

Could you revert your revert please as researching/contributing to wikipedia takes time and subject is notable and verified? Nmclough (talk) 20:50, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

This is only source I can find for another old Irishman: <ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/ireland-s-oldest-man-dies-aged-107-1.2081616|title=Irelands oldest man dies|newspaper=irish times}}</ref> Nmclough (talk) 20:57, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

No, I don't think so. The requirements for this article are that a person is stated to be the oldest person/man or oldest living person/man in that country. Original research is not a basis for inclusion. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:01, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
I have added as note. The verifiable references are public-domain published articles = not original research. Wikipedia is evolving so Ireland has "no oldest man"; I want to add "oldest man" and someone else with verifable sources can dispute. Lets follow Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution#Resolving_content_disputes Nmclough ([[User

talk:Nmclough|talk]]) 21:29, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

This is best I can find. It uses the word "Irish Record" which, considering reliability clause (116 years ago) nearly meets your criteria: <ref>{{cite news|url=http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3746543/3746546/21/Mohill|title=Centenarians, A remarkable Irish Record}}</ref>
I think that is a misuse of the term "record". The following was an edit conflict: Yes, it IS original research if you "find" someone you think is the oldest but there is no reference saying so. Any such claim, by you, fails WP:V and I will remove it on that basis. I am moving this to the appropriate talk page so that other editors can contribute to this discussion. There was no reason given for the removal of the prod therefore it was not justified. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 05:01, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
it says on Wikipedia:Proposed deletion "Any editor (including the article's creator) may object to the deletion by simply removing the tag". it doesn't say they have to give a reason, though ideally they should. Voortle (talk) 05:03, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
That's a poor guideline when an IP can get away with removing a PROD as their only ever edit! DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 05:06, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
Good job, that's the kind of article that belongs on the gerontology wiki. I know this isn't an argument, but if Harold Fairweather is notable then so are Augusta Bunch and John Christopher Bollig. They should be on the gerontology wiki, not wikipedia. Besides, Harold's claim to fame is listed in his mother's article, the rest is trivia and we all know trivia isn't notability. Treatment of inexperienced editors

Hi, please could you be more polite when reverting edits to Emma Morano. Just because someone doesn't know how infoboxes work, or other formatting, or what we agreed about the contents of pages on a talk page somewhere, doesn't make it "drivel" or vandalism. Talking to other users like that is unlikely to make them better wikipedians. Please remember WP:NEWBIE and WP:AGF. Thanks. Jdcooper (talk) 11:10, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

The edits on this, and other longevity pages, are not "inexperienced" editors. They are nuisance editors who have used multiple accounts to avoid repeated warnings. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 16:52, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

These bl**dy annoying +1/-1 edits

Hello. I saw your intervention here, thanks. I then followed up a bit and saw your reporting this "editor" which led me to look at their contributions, which leads me to wonder: what is going on? Is it some silly game? Is it actually organized somehow? I was confused enough by the first and second lots I saw (see also: me discussing it at User_talk:Someguy1221#Thanks) but now I realise it's more widespread ... what on earth? Is it a concerted attack or something kids are doing as ... uh ... fun, or what?

I'm sorry to bother you with this but it looks as if your understanding of it is rather more advanced than mine - please do educate me! Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 08:02, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

I have no idea what the purpose of these edits is. It is widespread and possibly due to young/immature editors who have nothing better to do than be annoying! They can really only be stopped by giving them a level 4 warning straight away and then requesting a block when they continue. It might be possible to institute a range-block if it appears that similar IPs are being used, but I don't know of any that have been applied in this sort of case (some Admins might know more about this). I could be wrong but I believe this is how i talk to those on here who don't want Trump's inauguration added to the 2017 page, i think it's biased against Trump not to include his inauguration but to include (where his inauguration would be) a protest against him. Various other presidents have their inaugurations listed yet if his is added it's an issue. Not to mention the "local event" reason is bullshit since hundreds of other things that are listed on various year pages go against that rule, for example the 1999 page lists the Columbine Shooting as an event even though the 2017 page is explicitly told not to include the "2017 Istanbul nightclub attack or the 2017 Fort Lauderdale airport shooting" which makes no sense since they are both the same type of event. In closing i'll keep editing it to include his inauguration and when i get banned i'll edit it again using a different IP and after that one gets banned i'll do it again and again because i hate biased people, it's a stupid battle but i'm stupid enough to fight it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:6ACE:8E00:516C:D551:86A1:BF3B (talk) 05:16, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

"Various other presidents have their inaugurations listed" do not have their inauguration listed in recent years. In fact none of them should be listed. If they are listed ( I don't know, I stopped checking) they also violate WP:RY. However, as you removed a note which says specifically to not add the Trump inauguration, then I consider it vandalism. Do it again and expect to get blocked. If you want it added gain consensus on the 2017 Talk page. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 05:37, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

"As you removed a note which says specifically to not add the Trump inauguration, then I consider it vandalism" Okay i won't remove the note. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:6ACE:8E00:516C:D551:86A1:BF3B (talk) 07:12, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

+1/-1 IPs such as 200.148.8.96

I run into one of these every few days. Adds a char or two then removes them... I reported 200.148.8.96 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) to wp:AIV. Not sure what drives them... Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:12, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Me either. They need to find another sandpit to play in. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 09:29, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Governors-General

You've taken on a one-man mission to restore the governors-general,who I thought there had been a consensus decision to disqualify,to the List of longest-living state leaders. Any reason you've omitted the one from the Irish Free State?--L.E./12.144.5.2 (talk) 20:40, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

There was no consensus to remove them. That was done by an editor who had a habit of making such edits without any consensus. Missed Domhnall Ua Buachalla; now added back in. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:16, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

2012 Death List

Hello DerbyCountyinNZ. Thank you for your correspondence. I strongly disagree with your action to remove Robert B. Sherman from the "Deaths" list in "2012". He was the subject of two major film releases in recent years, both released by Disney. One film was a 2009 documentary about him entitled The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story. The other was a 2013 major film release Saving Mr. Banks about the making of the 1964 movie, Mary Poppins (for which Robert B. Sherman won two Academy Awards). In Saving Mr. Banks, Robert Sherman was portrayed by the award winning actor: B. J. Novak. Along with his brother, Richard, Robert has written more film musical scores than any other songwriter. Two of his films, Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book were the biggest grossing films of their respective years, 1964 and 1967, respectively. According to Time.com, Sherman's song, "It's A Small World (After All)" was recognized as the "most performed song of all time".[3]

There are many other, far less notable people on the March 2012 deaths list alone, but no one has removed them from the list. For example I cite: Armenian composer: Alexander Arutiunian, Spanish Footballer: Estanislau Basora and the terrifically talented, nevertheless markedly less notable Italian screenwriter: Tonino Guerra. If you are intent on removing Robert B. Sherman who is a world class figure, honored by Presidents and royalty, then certainly there are many many other names who should be removed first. Please be so kind as to reconsider your decision. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Howard352 (talkcontribs) 07:41, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Did you read WP:RY? It states clearly that the minimum requirement for inclusion in the Deaths section is 9 non-English Wiki articles at the time of the persons death. Sherman fails this. It also states "this is a minimum requirement for unexplained inclusion. Although inclusion may then be automatic, it will not necessarily be permanent." which means anyone who is included on this basis can be excluded if there is consensus to do so. The reverse is also true, someone may fail the minimum requirement and be included by consensus. In either case it requires a discussion on the relevant talk page, NOT an edit war in the article mainspace. As for the people YOU think are less important WP:OTHERSTUFF applies. Recent Year articles are plagued with entries that someone thinks are important but most people do not, that is why WP:RY exists. If you want Sherman included, start a discussion and gain consensus. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 22:05, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
I am trying to do this the correct way. I'm not trying to be disruptive. I will make an argument by starting a discussion and hopefully gain consensus. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Howard352 (talkcontribs) 07:05, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Talk page policing

It really isn't up to you to decide what is 'constructive' use of a talk page, as you did with Emma Morano. That sort of logic is best applied to articles. It's both rude and unnecessary to simply scrap someone's comments. Smurfmeister (talk) 11:35, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Rubbish. That comment had NOTHING to do with the improvement of the article as specified at the top of the talk page. A talk page "is not a forum for general discussion of the article's subject." which is what that comment was. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 17:55, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
It had everything to do with the subject. The article contains a ridiculous comment that 'the cause of death has not been released and is not yet known', as if it is somehow a big mystery. That was what my comment was about. Your talk page shows you have a history of simply deleting anything you don't like at will. It's high-handed and unhelpful. Smurfmeister (talk) 18:23, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
We'll see what ANI has to say about it. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 18:40, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
You're coming across as a very petty little man. Smurfmeister (talk) 19:15, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
And this, and your talk page history, indicates you're not here to be constructive or co-operative. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:01, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Given the number of complaints about your past reversions here, I wouldn't be throwing stones on the 'constructive or co-operative' front. Smurfmeister (talk) 11:53, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Repeated warnings given to me by you

Hello Derby County in NZ. As your name suggests you must be from NZ. A beautiful country with beautiful landscape and amazing flora and fauna. Say hi to all the kiwis, keas, takahes, kakarikis, kakas and kakapos. Some of the most amazing birds on the planet are found in your country. Having said that I would like to ask what is wrong with my editing. I just edit longevity related articles to update them to the present date. Most edits have been done for that purpose. Also I would like to take your permission as I would like to edit the article of violet brown. If you say no I won't do it. Is that ok with you? Also do you know who Dorglorg is? He recently abused me openly. You can see that in the history section of list of oldest living people article. Iam going to take action against this person and I will talk with wiki administrators on this matter. I thought I should tell you about this as I thought you are a Wiki administrator yourself. Fydcinnz (talk) 11:06, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Derby is not an Admin, but should be. You don't need anyone's permission to edit an article. Legacypac (talk) 18:09, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
I have no interest in being an Admin. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 05:59, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Please do not attack other editors, as you did at User talk:2804:431:D718:E0DB:9D2C:A33E:EA71:225A. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Iñaki (Talk page) ★ 16:30, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Honesty is the best policy. There is a plague of these time-wasting vandals. Until someone creates a bot to instantly perma-block them genuine editos have to waste time tidying up after them. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 17:44, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
User:Iñaki Salazar Your warning is uncalled for. The IP is clearly a vandal who only repeatedly enters a line then removes it from an article and should be blocked. DerbyCountyinNZ warning was appropriate. --I am One of Many (talk) 18:03, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

@I am One of Many: I agree that warning the IP user on their behaviour was totally fine, what is not appropiate is to use epiteths like "another pointless excuse for a human being", even if the IP user is clearly a vandal, even if you are pissed off and/or stressed. We should avoid that: WP:UNCIVIL. Iñaki (Talk page) ★ 03:44, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
