Ok, fair enough on the citation part, I will make sure to add source material next time. i could care less however if my edits are considered "incendiary". Kevin Kaesviharn NFL draft year

Hello, the reason of the move to 2001 is the following, although in 1998 he was eligible for the for the 1998 draft, he wasn't signed by any of the teams in the NFL, so by league policy/rule, a player is not recognized as an undrafted free agent until he signs with their first NFL team, even if he is eventually cut and it doesn't matter if this happens many years after they graduated from college (sometimes they play in the CFL or AFL before getting a chance in the league). Also you may know that in the past, there have been cases of players that have never played or attended college, so the same thing applies for them.Tecmo (talk) 17:01, 23 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, that policy/rule I haven't seen it online. But in regards to your point about Warren Moon, have you seen any place where lists Moon as a 1978 undrafted free agent?. Following your logic that should be the case every time.Tecmo (talk) 16:51, 24 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, You are mentioning Moon's Wikipedia page, have you seen any other external references where Moon is declared as an undrafted free agent in 1978?, if you do, please feel free to make all the changes you need. I don't think we need to go on and on with this. The matter of how an undrafted free agent is recognized is in the NFL rules, I've never seen them online, but if you feel you are right go ahead an also change the 1984 NFL draft page, because Moon also appears there.Tecmo (talk) 02:28, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. AFL/NFL common draft articles

After the second AfD is closed, feel free to execute the page moves as discussed. These should not be controversial moves, and I anticipate ZERO opposition. It may be good to leave a short explanation for the moves on the article talk pages, with links to both AfD discussions, so that no one mindlessly and unknowingly moves the two articles back to their generic NFL Draft titles for the sake of consistency. If someone does so in the future, someone else can always reference the talk page discussions and move them back to your improved "common draft" titles. Sometimes leaving a popcorn trail helps. Pending template merge

Hey. Do you know how to use AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) or one of the other semi-automated editing programs? I'm no expert, but I have used AWB to make several hundred replacements of identical text with new replacement text in a matter of minutes. Replacing template legacy parameter names would be no harder, but we need to settle on what the final parameter names will be. The first step would be adding alternate parameter names to Template:Infobox NFL coach from the corresponding parameters of Infobox NFL coach. The second step would be to run AWB to change the parameter names of Infobox NFL coach for the 340 articles that currently use Infobox NFL coach. The third step is to manually edit any parameter data to conform to the standard formatting of Infobox NFL player. The fourth step is run AWB again to change the name of all 340 transclusions of Infobox NFL coach to the merged template name (presumably, Infobox NFL biography). The fifth step is to manually review all 340 articles to make sure that the merge and manual data edits have been done properly. The idea is to fully utilize automated editing for as much repetitive replacement editing as possible. If we can recruit another 4 or 5 editors to help with the manual formatting of data (mostly team tenures, championships, awards and other highlights), we could be done with this in a week. That's my skeletal plan to implement the merge -- what do you think? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:41, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've never really invested the time to try to figure out how to use AWB, although it's probably one of those things that once I finally sit down and figure it out I'll slap myself for not having done so sooner. Your outline seems reasonable, but I don't have any experience with organizing an effort like this. I tend to operate more as a "lone wolf" because trying to get consensus for an effort like this seems to be more difficult than herding cats. — DeeJayK (talk) 21:51, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Most of the smarter cats will follow a coherent plan when the see one. I suggest you start compiling a list of the final parameter names we want to use. If you're not comfortable with AWB, I'm competent enough to run the simple parameter replacements described above. I'm willing to manually edit the team tenures and highlights data for 50+ of these articles. If you and Primefac are willing to do the same, we only need to recruit WikiOriginal-9 and three more editors to do the same, and we're done with this little project in a week or so. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:13, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
P.S. I saw you remove the image "caption" parameter from Infobox NFL coach; Infobox NFL player uses parameters for "image", "image_size", "alt" text, and "caption" and those parameters should all be present in the 340 coach articles when the merge is completed. If you're not familiar with "alt" text, it is an alternate text description available to text readers for the visually impaired, and it is supposed to be present in all infoboxes per WP:ACCESSIBILITY. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:13, 30 November 2015 (UTC) Never mind -- I see now that this was only the capitalized parameter name, while you preserved the lower case parameter name. Carry on. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:54, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Category:CS1 errors: external links

Hello Deejayk.
I found that you introduced an error to 1951 Pro Bowl in January 2012(!), see here. The problem is where you added:

"|publisher=[http://mmbolding.com Bolding Sports Research]".

This causes a "External link in lpublisher error. The same error also seems to be in Pro Bowl 1952 through to 1975, and 1996.
• This edit fixes it by removing the link, so the syntax is now:

|publisher=Bolding Sports Research

Out of curiosity

Why is |currentteam being changed to |current_team? I know height/weight was changed before. What exactly does this do?--Yankees10 19:29, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Yankees10: I've adopted a long-stagnated effort to merge {{Infobox NFL player}} with {{Infobox NFL coach}} as documented here. To that end, I'm trying to address any cases where these two templates have parameters that are functionally similar but have different names. In this case, the coach template uses current_team and so I'm working on adopting that parameter name as the standard across both templates, which will allow the merged template to be streamlined. My intention is to deprecate currentteam entirely once all articles that are currently using it are fixed. It's a similar situation with highschoolhigh_school. Please let me know if you have any concerns about this effort. — DeeJayK (talk) 19:39, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely zero concern here. Just asked out of pure curiosity. Thanks for the response.--Yankees10 19:46, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

NFL infobox merge

Deejayk: I can sympathize with your frustration. Take a temporary break, but it's understandable if you choose to make it permanent with respect to the merge. However, it seems that there is a 2–1 !vote to move forth with the merge, so we could boldly continue. Alternatively, I could facilitate one more pulse check with the WP:NFL community to get a broader consensus, but only if you are still interested. I see the divide as being analogous to providing Windows and OS X users a single platform to coexist (e.g. Infobox NFL biography), and migrate at their own pace if they desire, versus forcing them to choose one flavor or another (e.g. manual merge).—Bagumba (talk) 20:29, 14 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Bagumba: Thanks for the support. It seems like we should be SOOO close to having consensus to move forward, but it seems that the goalposts are constantly being moved. This whole episode encapsulates exactly what I detest about WP. It's been a very long, ugly day (not due to WP, but just dumpster fires at work). I'm planning on taking at least a couple of days away from this whole thing and then we'll see if I feel it's worth it to keep banging my head into this particular brick wall. If you need votes to overcome those who would like to derail this effort, you can still count me among the supporters of the merge, but the rest of the back-and-forth is not what I consider a good time. — DeeJayK (talk) 03:36, 15 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Art+Feminism, Saturday, May 6, at Jacob Lawrence Gallery, UW Seattle

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Despite its wide reach, content on Wikipedia suffers from the bias of its editors: white, technically inclined, English-speaking men that live in developed, majority-Christian countries. This represents an alarming absence of voices in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

In an effort to change this, the Jake is organizing a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Saturday, May 6th, 1 - 5 pm. Our mission is to bring together diverse communities to participate in Wikipedia editing, and improve its coverage of queer people and women of color in the arts.

We will provide childcare, snacks, and tutorials for the beginner editor.

Bring your laptop, power-cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. No previous Wikipedia experience required!

RSVP at and stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates.

What: Improving Wikipedia's coverage on queer and women artists of color
When: Saturday, May 6, 1-5pm
Where: Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Art Building #132, 1915 NE Chelan Ln, Seattle, WA 98105
Who: People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate.
What to bring: A laptop and power cord. Access to UW wifi will be provided for non-UW affliated participants.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Deejayk. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
