Image permission problem with Image:JulleuchterDiff2.JPG

I just sent an email to the persons that used the image in the article that I got it from. They hopefully will be sending me an email with their permission soon, I will then forward that email to Wikipedia to solve this problem. Photo Permission Inquiry

Richard Marx has granted permission of his photo to be used in his Wikipedia article. I've noticed that you've placed a tag that would subject it to deletion. How do I make sure that it is permitted to stay on Wikipedia? What criteria do I need to provide in order to do this? I hope that you can help me. Both Richard Marx and his management have sent consenting letters, in the past, to Wikimedia for the same photo to the addresses you've provided and have been accepted. Then for no apparent reason, those images were deleted and removed from the article. If that type of problem occurs, what can I do to correct it? This is one of several times that we've dealt with this situation. It's becoming ridiculous and I hope that you can understand that. --Candy156sweet (talk) 19:08, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Other people have been able to take photographs of the boat, so a free photograph is possible. Due diligence would also include trying to ask the authors of existing photos whether they would release one under a free license. Finally, the rationale claims that the picture is needed to show the difference between modern and historical boats; a Wikipedian-made diagram (WP:Graphics) could show this better. --dave pape (talk) 03:24, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

In regards to this, I would rather dicuss this particular issue with you rather than see an irrational deletion tag slapped on it. Yes I did choose the wrong licensing when uploading the image, however surely that can be changed rather than just see it be deleted right? I will admit I am extremely inexperienced in dealing with image licensing and copyright, however the website I got it from does give permission for its content to be used. The uploaded photo has been reloaded from the City of Atlanta website. Thus, it is a photo within the Public Domain. Question regarding speedy of File:James Lafferty.jpg

I just had a question about the file I uploaded yesterday, which is being (or has been) speedy deleted. This is only my 2nd image ever uploaded and I thought I had done the right thing. Unfortunately, the copyright policies are extremely complex and although I have spent time trying to learn, obviously I have made a mistake. Regarding File:James Lafferty.jpg, creative commons images which say "attribution", but ALSO "non-commercial" and/or "non-derivative works" are not allowed? I am assuming it's the "non-commercial" part? I didn't realize Wiki was considered a commercial use. The image you have asked to be deleted is of very poor quality and was scanned from a cheaply made postcard which has no copyright attributions to it. Unfortunately the barn seems to be closed to any visitation and this situation is unlikely to change. Therefore it is highly unlikely that a view of the interior is likely to be acquired for this article. I suggest that you go ahead with your deletion plans and remove the image. Jacques Mahul photo

This image is replaceable. There are a lot of official photos of Jacques Mahul and this one is one of them. I've got it from Focal-JMLab PR department for printed and web publication as I wish (I'm a pressman). The photo of company's key person is a part of brand strategy and can change with time. If somebody from Focal-JMLab stuff deside with time to use another Jacques Mahul's photo as best suitable to possible new total brand image, the photo can be replaced. TV copyright

Ref your help on Tag problems and Life of Riley, what is the site for the copyright (US) government's database so I can use it in future searches before trying to place a screen shot on wikipedia?

This iron strictness on copyright has come as a bit of a shock to me. Like many others, I have used screen shots and other images on internet forums and posted them on photobucket where they have been used by others. Youtube is full of film sections of recently copyrighted media. I can understand where someone may be selling a 2010 film that they have pirated for a profit but old B&W TV programmes? I cannot conceive of what kind of person would give a damn about screen shots. At worst (assuming they do not reveal mystery endings) they are free publicity for the original products.

I have given a "non-free use rationale" on the offending jpeg. I could not find the template or how to do the box for one. If it is deleted I'll put it on an actor biography or TV programme site. Lots of them about but no pictures of John Brown as far as I've seen. (Cyberia3 (talk) 11:06, 7 May 2010 (UTC))

Thanks for your help on copyright. It is a bit of a minefield to the uninitiated. If the wikipedia doesn't have one already, I think it could do with a page about screenshots, as they are so easy to make now, and so tempting to use.
