Hello, I previously created this article because there was a lot of "buzz" around this person in my country. I submitted the article, but unfortunately it didn't meet the Wikipedia guidelines, in short, the person was not notable enough to have an article on the encyclopedia. So I quit editing it altogether. Thank you, for bringing this to my attention. Regards. Cn22760 (talk) 20:39, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as National Forestry Authority. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. – Berrely • TC 15:46, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much @Berrely for this information. Let me fix the issue right away. Cn22760 (talk) 16:13, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Berrely,
I have read about the attribution template, am sorry I didn't know about it. Thank you once again for bringing this error to my attention. I appreciate your guidance. Cn22760 (talk) 16:35, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your response. :). Don't worry, I already fixed the issue by adding the {{pd-notice}} template to the end of the citation, this is just a reminder for you to remember to do so in the future :) – Berrely • TC 16:55, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello Cn22760! Your additions to Baganda music have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 14:42, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Moneytrees
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, I really appreciate your guidance on this issue. I'll try to do better moving forward.
Thanks again. Cn22760 (talk) 15:34, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Cn22760, I also removed content you added to Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, Rolex (food), Barnabas Nawangwe, National Library of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali, Tanda pits, Echuya Batwa, and Maramagambo Forest, as you had copied them from the cited sources. Please do not copy and paste text from sources-- it is a copyright violation, and further copyright violations will result in your account being blocked. Im some edits you cite the Bradt travel guide, and other books-- I can't access these books so I'm not sure if you've also copied and pasted content in those edits, but if you did, please remove them. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:36, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
But before we go any further, allow me to clarify a few things.
I am a professional Librarian who works at a public library with over 10,000 items in our collection.
My participation in these campaigns is motivated by my desire to contribute to Wikipedia, as well as my love for Libraries and Librarianship. In a nutshell, the reason why I participate in these campaigns, is because I have all the resources available to me, in my library (including the BRADT Travel Guide), and I can use them for the benefit of Wikipedia.
However, it saddens me that you seem to imply that my resources, do not exist just because you have no access to them. It would've been great if you had asked me whether or not, this book existed before deleting/removing my contributions.
Actions like these dampen my desire to continue participating in these campaigns. I see no point in wasting time searching across bookshelves and the internet for references to add to Wikipedia, when someone is going to remove them for reasons I do not fully understand. This is extremely demoralizing.
In relation to assuming good faith, I am yet to understand why you felt justified in deleting/removing my current and previous contributions. - I can understand reversing a contribution or two, here and there, but to go back into my editing history and delete previous contributions seems vindictive. - I stand to be corrected.
That said, I do not feel nor see that your specific actions in relation to my contributions were done in good faith. Cn22760 (talk) 15:25, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
To be clear, I know Bradt travel guides and the sources you are citing are real-- I just can't access them, and given several of your other edits were copied from the sources you cited, I'm concerned you may have copied content from those travel guides. Another user removed some of your edits that cited travel guides for reasons unrelated to copyright, I had nothing to do with that.
Unforunatly, Wikipedia cannot host copyrighted content, so text copied from sources needs to be removed. en if the edits are "old", if a copyright violation was introduced it needs to be removed. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 14:45, 1 February 2023 (UTC)vReply
