Syed Ameer Haider Abidi

Syed Ameer Haider Abidi (born 1940) is a Ugandan Researcher and Professor of Library and Information Science (LIS)^[1] . He was the Director of the East African School of Library and Information Science previously referred to as, the East African School of Librarianship^[2]^[3] at Makerere University from 1972-2002.^[4]

Early life and education

Born in India, Abidi studied many courses between 1958 - 1967. He later went to England to pursue a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science ^[4]

Career

Abidi started working as a Librarian for Agra District in India, in 1960.^[5] In 1970, while teaching library science at Aligarh Muslim University, Abidi applied for a position of Lecturer in Library and Information Science at Makerere University. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer, and later promoted to Director - East African School of Library and Information Science in 1972. ^[4]A position he held for 30 years.

He is the current Chairman of Kampala International University Council.^[6] And he's also an author. ^[7]
