Question regarding Archive-Now

I've added some tags to Talk:2012 in UFC events for explicitly archiving threads that are not helpful over 24 hours ago, yet the Cluebot3 archiving service is not vanishing these off into the night. Can you please illuminate for me as to why the page isn't being serviced? Hasteur (talk) 17:22, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

CB3 is being a little bit shaky at the moment with staying up... I need to take a look it at, just bear with it ;) - Rich(MTCD)T|C|E-Mail 23:07, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

My Edit You messaged me About

My Edit you messaged me about was NOT vandalism. 74.176.74.91 (talk) 20:58, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately, your good faith edits did leave the article in a damaged state. While not vandalism, this probably explains why ClueBot NG got confused. If you need further assistance, you could ask at the article's talk page. – Wdchk (talk) 23:00, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

False Positive

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Venture_capital&diff=prev&oldid=495401525 What is this? I am not going to jump through the hoops for the false positive experience. The bot operator should do that. The Sound and the Fury (talk) 00:08, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

{{CB-FPWarn}} The bot operator doesn't have the time to do all the false positives manually I'm afraid.--5 albert square (talk) 00:32, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Well turn it off then if you're not willing to do the work. I'm certainly not going to do it for you.

With the thousands of edits that ClueBot NG makes each day, Cobi simply wouldn't get the chance to check them all. That's the edits of just one bot, there's a whole family of ClueBot's on here, not just ClueBot NG, and with the exception of the original ClueBot I think they are all still running. If they're all making that amount of edits you can see why the bot operator wouldn't be able to check them all manually for false positives. So that's why they ask if you come across a false positive that it's reported to the link above. I'm quite sure Wikipedia wouldn't allow you to simply disable the false positives page, otherwise the bot wouldn't know what edits are wrong. If you report a wrong edit to the false positives page we can then train the bot, if you don't then we can't. --5 albert square (talk) 01:06, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thousands is a lot. Then two things I can think are: why would the bot make such an idiotic edit as ZORRO TE AMO or whatever it was. Secondly, why not make the reporting of a false positive much easier? As in, just click a link above the offending diff. I don't want to be directed to some other page and have to follow instructions that require clicking around to uncover some little scrap of text, then dutifully submit it to a machine, to help some guy clean up after themselves. The Sound and the Fury (talk) 04:22, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
The bot hasn't made the edit, it simply reverted an edit. It can't revert more than one editor, just when it reverted that edit it looks like the previous edition had old vandalism in it.--5 albert square (talk) 10:52, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
"Zooron TE AMO" translates to "Love you Zorron". With so much love moving all around Wikipedia, we definitely need to train our bot to identify lovers and deal with them accordingly In the name of love. [sarcasm]--ÐℬigXЯaɣ 11:08, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
TheSoundAndTheFury, false positives will happen, unfortunately; it's inevitable. Given the magnitude of the task, training the bot really does require a community effort. Reporting a false positive with a single click sounds like a good idea to us good faith editors, but won't it just invite vandals to submit their true positives as false positives? They would love a lazy opportunity to mess with the bot, or more specifically the people who review the false positives. I suggest having to go through a couple of steps to submit a false positive makes it more likely that the reporter is motivated by the right reasons. – Wdchk (talk) 14:13, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

How do you exclude a section from being archived?

Cluebot keeps archiving a piece of Jimbo Wales page where he notifies people that he is away for holiday. Is there some way to prevent this from happening? -- Avanu (talk) 05:07, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Use {{User:ClueBot III/DoNotArchiveUntil|unix timestamp here}}. Στc. 06:07, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't seem to say whether it is for an entire page or just a section. I'll just keep manually fighting ClueBot, I guess. -- Avanu (talk) 15:47, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
obviously For a section--ÐℬigXЯaɣ 17:19, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Alternatively, you could edit the timestamp to a future date. In my experience, the bots will leave "future" posts alone. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 17:41, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
A third (though not good) method would be to one up the heading level. --lTopGunl (talk) 17:42, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Archive blanking

CluebotIII blanked an entire archive with this edit (restored here). This may have a one-time glitch, but it is a bit concerning. Has this ever happened before? ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 17:14, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I don't understand because yestaerday I want to translate the article Technal in french in english.

So I add that :

I don't want that my article name "Norsk Hydro", it is not the subject. The article is "Technal".

Could you help me please ? I have already the translation. Thank you Allison — Preceding unsigned comment added by Azul Prueba (talkcontribs)

  • As mentioned in the page history of Technal here [2] its advisable to translate the article first in a sandbox and if it satisfies the guidelines and is not using spam links then it can be moved to replace the redirect--DℬigXray 06:31, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

ClueBot III is down

As evident from Special:Contributions/ClueBot_III is down since the last 4 days, any clue why ? Please check --DℬigXray 15:24, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Source Code Request

Hi. I want to request a source code for this bot to install it on my company's wiki. Can you contact me by email (E-Mail removed for security purposes) ? I do not have an IRC thing. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by guest 20:38, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm talking about Cluebot NG, by the way.
I've had to remove your email address for security purposes, however I will alert one of ClueBot's admins to this discussion. If you haven't already then please add this page to your watchlist by clicking on "watch" at the top of the page so your watchlist will then be notified of any changes to the page.--5 albert square (talk) 16:32, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

A Question on Cluebot III

I am using ClueBot III with archive parameters

|format= Y |maxarchsize=150000

as I see My archive named "2012" is already 160 Kb and its still adding new content in the same page even though maxarchsize is 150 Kb is there a way it could be made to create 2012A or something like that. I dont see parameter maxarchsize=150Kb of any help in this case or am i missing something ? regards --DℬigXray 15:12, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

  • I think |format= Y %%i |numberstart=1 will do the trick --DℬigXray 19:18, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

The bot is self-aware!

ClueBot III has gone mad, as is apparent by this. What in the world is going on? --Nathan2055talk 14:34, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

False positive page is inaccessible

Hello, I just tried to report a false positive edit for ClueBot NG (for this reversion of a good-faith edit) but couldn't access the webpage to do so. It said "server not found" in Mozilla Firefox, and it didn't work in Internet Explorer nor Google Chrome. Please fix the website. Thanks, Compdude123 03:26, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Archiving Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents today

Hi! For some strange reason your bot ClueBot III archived the subj page to a page with a space character in the name. Hence, there are two 755th archive pages, with and without a space. And it is difficult to find the archived topics. --Michgrig (talk) 10:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I've manually fixed the misarchive; the bot executed 756 just fine. Nobody Ent 01:41, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
ClueBot III updated a link on my talk page by adding the space-full URL. I removed the space manually. Not sure about the timing or exactly how this relates to the issue Michgrig noted. Cnilep (talk) 07:41, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia Help Survey

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Thank you for your time,

False positives reporting

The mechanism for reporting false positives is confusing and badly designed (and/or broken). Following the instructions, I go to http://report.cluebot.cluenet.org/ , type in the revert ID and click submit. There is no indication of what has happened, or whether the submission has taken place, but instead I am taken to another page, http://report.cluebot.cluenet.org/?page=View&id=1122673 where I am prompted to submit again. This page contains a "captcha" screen where I am supposed to type two "words" (one of which is usually a jumble of indecipherable letters), but whatever I type in the captcha widget, whether something that might be correct, or something that is complete garbage, whenever I hit "submit" I get no message whether it has worked or failed. Instead the same screen is just redisplayed over and over. I still have no idea if my submission has been saved or not. The whole thing is a complete muddle, and a very frustrating waste of five minutes of my life, or ten including writing this.

Also, perhaps someone could correct the glaring comma splice in "You need to get ClueBot NG's revert ID, there are two ways to do this". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.67.67 (talk) 13:33, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Partly done – Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the architecture of the false positives reporting process. However, I did edit the comma splice. – Wdchk (talk) 21:12, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I'm afraid that's not possible as ClueBot is not human. If you think that ClueBot was wrong to revert your edit then please report it here so we can train ClueBot. Thanks!--5 albert square (talk) 21:37, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Changes of dates

Edits that change the date of something within an article, such as this edit, can be the most malicious form of vandalism. It is incredibly difficult to detect since it doesn't change the amount of bytes in an article. Would it be possible for ClueBot to revert edits that modify a string of numbers and don't include edit summaries or text? I am imagining something that would alert the bot if 1984→1964 with no edit summary, but not 1984→in 1964. It could also be alerted if something like 23→82 in reference to a basketball player's number or something of the sort. Ryan Vesey Review me! 16:13, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
