Hi: I applied to be part of JSTOR well over a year and never heard anything. Now, I just looked at the sign up page and it shows "This user has access...". Is that the case? And, if so, how do I take advantage of it? I use vivaverdi2013@comcast.net as email contact address. Viva-Verdi (talk) 17:21, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Bristol County Jail may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

WikiCup 2014 April newsletter

Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's   Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's   Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's   ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included   Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and   Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from   Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from   Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from   Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to   Czar (submissions) and   Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.

192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Phineas Gage". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 23 May 2014.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Historic school problem

I was looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places and saw your name. I don't know whether you can help me but maybe you can tell me who can.

The problem is that a historic school has changed names. It is of course Wikipedia policy (or at least a guideline) that we use the current building name, in this case Central Elementary School (Albemarle, North Carolina). I have used names for buildings in articles I have written only to have the articles moved. So I knew the current name for this building was the best.

The problem is that the elementary school currently occupying the building was in another location for 82 years. Longer if you go by what the school was called for 25 to 50 years before that (I'm having trouble pinning down accurate sources). The other location has been vacant for seven years.

A Wikipedia article on this school would surely mention the history of the "school" during those 82 years and of course the 25-50 years the school existed before that. But the building the school now occupies is what makes it notable. An elementary school is not notable enough for Wikipedia. A historic elementary school is, though it is the building that is historic. The elementary school's previous building might be, but I thought it was just too far gone to save, unlike the historic building where the school is now.

I tried explaining this to another editor who wanted to help me with the article, but this editor is so confused he/she can't make productive contributions. I end up having to revert most of them. The last time, I got no repsonse from this person, and so far he/she hasn't said anything. But the last edit summary had incorrect information in it, and it is clear from that and the editor's talk page comment (not the article talk page) that he/she just doesn't understand. While it is all clear to me, I do have the knowledge of what is going on with these buildings. The article is inadequate if it doesn't explain the situation to this person's satisfaction.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:42, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

@Vchimpanzee: - Sorta had this problem before, but historic buildings stay and the school - notable or not - could support a page with some sources. People wield a very poor "notability" argument, notability means "can we fill an article without OR" and "do people care about the topic to report about it". Please see Bacon Academy which is a high school, and Old Bacon Academy which is a historic building that contained the school and is now used as a non-notable, but still functional alternative education program. The article on the school is used to contain the history and details of the educational aspects, whereas the Old Bacon Academy page is dedicated to the historic building and touches upon only its most important changes and current use. I can try to help if you want. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 04:14, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I would like someone else to take a look to see if I did everything right so far. I don't think the Bacon Academy situation will help. Central is an elementary school now. Only as the historic building will it be notable. The old building is nothing special, to my knowledge, and it amazes me they're talking about keeping it. I'm looking in a new place today for sources that say they wanted to tear it down.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 13:35, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
This is a positive development for the old school. There was talk in 2009 of getting it on the "National Registry".<ref>{{cite news|title=Former Central School may become apartments for seniors |last=Lisk |first=Jim |work=[[Stanly News and Press]]|date=August 7, 2009}}</ref> It hasn't been a serious effort, though. If it were, we could have articles on each building, though one for both buildings seems better.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 17:40, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Imaginal psychology

I've closed this, can you point me at the copyvio in question? I'm happy to RD1 the appropriate revisions, I just want to make sure I've got the right ones. --j⚛e deckertalk 06:56, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

It does not need to be wiped out, but it was more close paraphrasing in the recent and a cv in the first as: "Imaginal Psychology is a distinct orientation to the discipline of psychology. This orientation reclaims soul as psychology’s primary concern. The soul expresses itself in images. Care of the soul asks that we pay close attention to the images we inhabit. This orientation to psychology has its roots in the transformative practices that are at the core of many spiritual traditions and creative arts." vs "Imaginal Psychology is a distinct orientation to the discipline of psychology. This orientation to psychology has its roots in the transformative practices that are at the core of many spiritual traditions and creative arts." That's the a direct rip from the creation of the page. Though its not important to hide it. A few words were flipped later to fix it though. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 12:04, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Jstor

Hello! I have been requested for Jstor account almost 2 years ago, but I still dont have this account. Can you help me to get this account? Thanks Darafsh Kaviyani (Talk) 09:58, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Did you apply on the Jstor page? Did you get a code? I'd ask the coordinator for the Jstor project. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 04:19, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I was request 2 times: (first and second) But I dont get code. Thanks Darafsh Kaviyani (Talk) 06:44, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Not sure how I am listed as the coordinator... but we don't have any codes for Jstor at this time. The list is to measure the interest and issue them when they become available. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 13:26, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 27

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Farm River State Park, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Blue heron and Farm River (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

No touch

Regarding this edit, did you consider the fact that none of the independent references are actually about this technique? The only references discussing the technique directly are those by Eid... --Randykitty (talk) 15:22, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Do a quick google search? Whether or not Dr. Eid's work and belief is really ground breaking or such doesn't matter, but you type it in and you get a bulk of published studies and details on it.[1] I rather see Wikipedia include something that has been the subject of multiple non-trivial and independent discussions than not at all. Not saying you cannot merge it though. Just that it is presumed to meet N as a result. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 15:26, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
  • So wouldn't it be desirable that the article gets improved? That's what such tags are for, to alert people that improvement is needed. Note that I didn't PROD it or something, I just tagged it for improvement. Anyway, I have removed it from my watchlist now, it's not really a subject I'm interested in and I watched it only as long as others weren't showing any interest. --Randykitty (talk) 16:50, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
  • That's a notability tag, not a "this needs X tag", its the "I don't know if this can be included in Wikipedia" tag. By all means, the article needs improvement. Millions do, but it meets N and GNG - it needs an expert and more content and such, but there's not a tag for every issue. Someone will improve it, I regularly improve articles to GA that have been stale for years. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 16:57, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Miles Pond, Audubon Sharon in Connecticut.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Miles Pond, Audubon Sharon in Connecticut.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [2], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Acalycine(talk/contribs) 02:35, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Chris, can you perhaps have a look

...at my massive revision of the original 3-bad-citation version of the Percy Julian (meteorologist) article draft? You will know perhaps best of all how far it has come (you rejected the first), and that it is now ready to be posted. (I have done all I can, and can afford; until this is available broadly—to the AMS societies who really know this history and work deeply—it cannot go any further.) Here it is, and thanks in advance for the look: [3] Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 00:29, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
