Hi - Is there any chance you could create a version of Image:Monty_tree.svg that's conditional on the location of the car, rather than the user's pick? Something like this:

I'm responding to Wikipedia:Featured article review/Monty Hall problem and have found references that present a decision tree, but they pretty much all select on the doors and car location rather than car/goatA/goatB. I'd actually like to replace the Solution section with the one at Monty Hall problem/draft#Solution, and replace the conditional probability table with this decision tree (with a reference). I'm not sure I agree with your proposed version. The best mathematical statement is a concise one, and yours seems unnecessary long-winded. It requires a WLOG argument (albeit a trivial one) to justify the contestant always choosing door 1. More importantly, though, it seems harder to understand the "host opens" step, because it isn't as obvious to see what is behind the door that the contestant chose (and why there is only one choice for the door the host can open in branches 2 and 3). I also feel that it's important to distinguish the two goats. That said, I'd be happy to oblige in making a new probability tree (and my opinion isn't particularly strong anyway). Although, have you tried editing it yourself? It might be easier for you just open up Inkscape and play with the svg yourself rather than bothering with all of these ascii mockups. ~ Booya ^Bazooka 17:55, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I've downloaded Inkscape and it doesn't seem to work tremendously well on my Mac (I tried using it on Goose's images in the table in the Solution section and basically gave up - these are simpler so I'll give it another shot). Regarding the image itself, the ASCII mockups are no problem at all. I've been considering whether an ASCII art version might actually be better since there is text in it, so if it's an image there has to be a unique image per language (do you have an opinion on this?). The current version requires distinguishable goats which I think is a negative since some presentations of the problem use empty doors for the non-winning ones, and (more importantly) is not at all amenable to a conditional analysis given which of the two doors the host opens. I want to use this diagram to illustrate the difference between the unconditional answer (2/3 win by switching for all players in general) vs. the conditional answer (given which door the host opens, there's a 1/6 win by staying and a 1/3 win by switching, so again a 2/3 win by switching). The difference between these is extremely relevant mathematically (they don't have to be the same), and the diagram provides a way to address this point. Oh, and BTW, the reference I'm using for the diagram shows the selection on doors rather than using distinguishable goats (and references is the main complaint at the FAR). -- Rick Block (talk) 18:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Colour icons

Would it be at all possible to make an aqua/green-blue version of the square colour icons like http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Color_icon_orange.png ? Lady BlahDeBlah (talk) 14:30, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

It would be quite trivial to change the colors. Check out Image:Color icon blue.svg, and look at the svg source. If you're comfortable with hex colors, all you need is a text editor. Otherwise, I recommend Inkscape for SVG editing. ~ Booya ^Bazooka 04:44, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
