Sig edit

Hi James, how's it going? The way I personalize my signature is by substituting a subpage of my user page which includes my signature. So when I sign, I place {{subst:User:Anas Salloum/Sig}} ~~~~~ at the end of my comment to produce my signature with the time and date. You can also change it by going to Special:Preferences and changing the field "Signature", which might be a much more preferable way. As for using an image, it's unfavorable by the community, as indicated in WP:SIG. All the best. - Anas Talk? 08:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looking great, all you have to do now is to move the signature to your user space (like User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld/Sig for example) and to remember to substitute your signature. Cheers! - Anas Talk? 14:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Here's a good tip: after moving your signature, go to your preferences and change your signature to {{subst:User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld/Sig}} ~~~~~. All you'll have to do then to sign comments and messages is clicking on the signature button. See you around. --Anas Talk? 14:29, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe you added the nowikis? --Anas Talk? 14:37, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Don't mention it! Now I can officially congratulate you on your new signature. I think if you do as I suggested above, that'll help you quite a lot. As for the Egyptian films, well, I'm taking a small break; I was working on an article on a famous actor and closed the tab and forgot to save my edit, which was about 10KB of text to the "Career" section! I almost had a heart attack. Plus, I'm having some connection problems; dial-up bills are killing me (did you know they charge a little less than a dollar for an hour of dial-up here) and the Saudi Telecom has not given me broadband service yet. --Anas Talk? 14:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

Nice signature! This was the first thing attracted my attention:-) Also: Jafar Panahi and Darius Mehrjui have been copyedited yesterday. Take care. Sangak 13:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, Taste of Cherry is a very good project and almost streight forward. We will work on it soon. Sangak 14:01, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

category edit

I also thought there was one for novels, but find only [[Category:Films based on fiction books]], so that's the one I've been using. I'll see if I can find an editor for png's. Hoverfish Talk 14:03, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, keep thess links somewhere you can easily find it: Category:Films by source and its subcat Category:Films based on fiction books. Browse around as more kitties may be under one mama cat or the other. Hoverfish Talk 14:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, the problems with M.East is 1. that it crosses continents (Egypt) and 2. that Turkey is not really there, so Sangak did quite a bit of searching and we ended up with this existing and acceptable term. Hoverfish Talk 14:21, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll wait till Pegship is back from her break and discuss about fixing the category structure there. Based on novels would be good, but you know how it goes (propose/discuss/debate/etc). It's good we have our own film cat dept now and we can pre-discuss, pre-debate, etc. Hoverfish Talk 14:42, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Done. The template should be just before categories, (after the last section) and if it's anywhere close to other vertical templates, just add before it: <br clear="all" />. Hoverfish Talk 15:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, the Margarita stub is quite ok. Now from where I stand, if I get 20 more sub-stubs to put 20 more sub-infoboxes, I can't say I'm thrilled really. But this idea with the redirects doesn't sound very straight. Why redirect to a list? To avoid red links? Don't avoid red links! I don't see why red links bother some editors and the yfeel the need to "clear" them. Red is a nice color, it tells one there is no article behind it and if it looks appealing, one may even start an article there. That's my view. I'm not sure what Wikipedia says in such cases (see Wikipedia:Redirect, as I'm into info-boxing right now). Hoverfish Talk 17:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, as you say with stub making. Good going with Argentine films there! One thing with images (sorry if I repeat things you already know): the infobox has a default of 200px. So any bigger image will be resized if you enter nothing in the image_size field. Now, if the image is smaller, it will go up to 200px and become pixelized, so there it's good to enter (say) 100, 120, 170px to the limit it still looks clear. Please, don't give more than 220-230px even for images that are clear at that size, or the infobox becomes too wide. / I plan to copy your actor images, change them to jpg and crop the white space out and re-upload them, if that's ok with you. But this won't be today. Let me know. Right now I am back to some silent films infoboxing, and adding missing cats. Hoverfish Talk 20:51, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It was on the 30th of September you started films. The best way I found was to track your edits (amazed at all the 1000s of geo edits before that!!), so I keep finding films that were not even tagged for infobox yet and add it, and so soon I'll be coming to the ones with the images and keep track of them. Where you enter several actors' pics, there's the "new" gallery type system which keeps them all nicely in one place. I tried to use it but had problem with the empty space. Yes, quite intersting film-times, but imdb has awafully little about them. I saw an old 2nd hand book once on that period, but at that time I wasn't so keen on the issue and missed it. Categories edit

When I see American documentary /propaganda /silent /television films and United States National Film Registry, I don't add American films, but instead bring it right after the year cat, since it's a sub-cat. One way or the other, there are many that are cross categorized and many split. At least when we clear American films off the infobox request list, I plan to start a discussion about it. There are several sub-categories under American films, so I will check with Girolamo and the other categorists, including you, and when it's 100% clear I'll go down the full lot and adjust the categories accordingly. During the same round, I will check for other missing basic categories. I won't do by studio, as I don't intend to look up every single film. Hoverfish Talk 18:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't forget that "silent films" is also a clear chronological line. I had in mind to also suggest other periods, but then I realized they wouldn't apply to all films of all countries, whereas "silent" does. Now it could be that there are some films made later as "silent" ones. This I haven't investugated, but it would be few specific cases. Hoverfish Talk 18:36, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Argentine films edit

I see that you're still all over the enyclopedia editing. Too bad for the Argentine section, since the bulk of articles are stubs. But to each his own, and I understand that.

As for me, I'm more or less done with adding additional films. I think the bulk of the most important films in the new Argetine era (since 1995) are done. I'll just add the most important actors, editors, cinematographers, etc bla bla bla on each film. I'll also do my bit with the film artilce stubs here and there if I come across them.

I'm happy that I've added the bulk of articles on the "Category:Cinema of Argentina". My latest was the Clarin Awards but it's tough to find info on them.

I'll also do an article on the new Argentine cinema to tie things together with links on every article (film, director, producer)...

Then I'm done with Argentina cinema and on to other pastures much like yourself.

Best wishes-- Luigibob 19:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

A few comments to your responce.
Yes, I only want to cover worthwhile films (in my opinion) and not B films and do them as well as I can. I also realize the films I started have a good deal to go. Especially the intro stage, I'll continue to work on them as well. User (Cop something or another number) does an excellent job of doing copy edits/cleanup. I'll keep following his/her lead. My work on the thirty something films is not done, I understnad that.
I've not put down your work. Do not read my interests into as anything you've done or are doing wrong. My stray comments are only that and are not a reflection on you, per se. Hey, we're all free to do what we think is right, as much as possible. It's chaos at work.
More from Blofeld. What does this mean?
Yes you are quite capable of doing fine articles, I never said you were not. I've complimented you in the past.
Yes, I thought about doing work in the Italy section but too many footprints there, and too many articles with "citation needed".
I'm not sure where I'll place my editing hat next, other that to do a foreign film here and there. I do have 100 plus foreign films in my collection and so many books for reference. Too bad only one film is from Argentina (Veronico Cruz).
As I said I'll continue to add actors, bla bla bla. Best, Luigibob 21:59, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just wondering edit

There is a category called Cinema of Russia, but no article... instead there are two articles about its two political predecessors (Cinema of the Russian Empire and Cinema of the Soviet Union). Would be possible to have the big "Cinema of Russia" link go to the category and have two smaller links right below it going to the two articles? Esn 21:56, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, the categories are completely screwed up... there's a stupid amount of overlap and confusion between the Soviet and Russian categories. Now if you ask me, the logical thing to do might be to simply define "Russia" in this case as the Russian Empire, then the Russian SSR, then the Russian Federation... so perhaps there should be a category called "Russian SSR films" - either that, or make the "Russian-language films" category include ALL Russian-language films instead of just those from outside Russia (no other X-language films category has this requirement). Then the "Russian-language films" category can serve as the place for films from the Russian Empire, Russian SSR and Russian Federation, and there can be a subcategory for Russian-language films from outside Russia. Esn 22:05, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but the "Soviet films" and "Russian films" categories feature significant overlap, which should really not be happening, I think. They're almost the same thing, so the only reason someone would look at one but not the other would be to find the few articles about non-Russian Soviet films or non-Soviet Russian films, which would be pretty hard to find anyway given that most of the articles in both are Soviet Russian films. Esn 22:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, so you're suggesting that "Russian films" should be for "Russian Federation films", "Soviet films" for 1917-~1990, and "Russian-language films" should be for ALL films in the Russian language. What about films from the Russian Empire, then? P.S. It would really be after 1991 or so - depends on the country, but Russia was 1991. Esn 22:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes... there are currently two articles if I'm not mistaken, Father Sergius and The Night Before Christmas (1913 film). Esn 22:18, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Seems like a good idea... do you think this scheme should be proposed somewhere to see what others think? Category:Russian Empire films, for example, was deleted a few weeks ago because somebody thought that it was superfluous to Category:Russian films. Esn 22:23, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and creating a few articles about Russian Empire films shouldn't be a huge problem - there are tons of them on the Russian wiki, so I can just go and translate some... Esn 22:25, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:FabioCapello.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:FabioCapello.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. The {{notability}} tag is not a delete tag; it is a reminder that articles have to demonstrate the notability of their subject. This particular article does not. [edit: did not]
Also note that when discussing on users' talk pages, you should add a new section for each inquiry, and note the context, e.g., which article you're actually talking about (you left me wondering for a minute). For more information, see talk page guidelines. -- intgr 12:50, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Film templates edit

That's great about the templates: I could use them for Bunuel's works and Fellini.

We many need a very small change in the Argentina template. My idea: include in the template the Category:Argentine films (call it misc, whatever). This is because a lot of articles on film companies, INCAA, and the like are included in that cat. Also the section AWARDS goes to Silver Condor as of now. Now we have other awards like the Clarin Awards. And the Festivals goes to Mar de Plata but there is also another film festival in Argentina ...the Buenos Aires. Is there anyway you can change the template if you agree.

As for pre 1995 film, more specifically the "Golden era". Well I'll never get a chance to see those films. I'm going to do my best to obtain DVD copies of the films I've added (New Argentine Cinema) and continue to add to the articles, especially the plots in some films.

You see if Wiki is going to be seen with some repect, the most notable films all should have a well developed article. That's where people are going to first. I mean the Brazilan film Pixote, a landmark film, was in terrible shape. And so many people had worked on the film, but no one bothered to bring up the article to a somewhat respectable shape.

So that's my goal in Wiki, to bring the best and notable films, to a level of decent presentation to the public. Some of the Italian films do need help. I can't believe there are not enough Fellini afficionados who have not done more work on his films.

I still can't believe an article with sometimes 8 footprints on the history of the article, and all they do is dabs, correction of typos, cats, and no major work. Oh well. But that's just me. To each his own in wiki.

Good job on that Asian country article; super job, I see yo spent some quality time with it. I;m sure that is an article that will get some traffic. I've always ben facinated my Buddism (sp).

Hey could you do a BRAZILIAN template? That would be cool.

We have to talk about the capitalization of Argentine films. Did you see that character that came in from "on high" and changed a slew of Argentinian films capitalization. I've been reading the WP:UE section. And there is no set policy, as to caps. I realize that Spanish has a form but this is an ENGLISH ENCYCLOPEIDA. What's you're take. Mine is to change the name to caps as in English. Vida loca to Vida Loca. That is the norm in English.

Best--- Luigibob 13:53, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE~"Yes feel free to add to the content of the Argentine template"; the problem is I have NO IDEA how to do that. How do I get to the Original template. I understand that a new category would have to be built for awards. So let me know. Luigibob 14:10, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In case of new categories, please consult with the categorizing sub-project. Awards are still quite unorganized, so if we start putting order it should be something stable and all inclusive in scope. By the way, I agree with Luigibob's view on titles, but then again, a lot has gone astray and we have to take a consensus decision about general repairs. Tibet edit

Dear Blofeld, Glad to know you are working on Tibet related articles. I have looked at some of your handiwork and it is very nice. I would lke to mention two things that irritate me though. The rules of the Tibean empire should I think in English be called 'emperors' and not 'kings' because the Tibetan word for king is rgyal-po and the Btsan-po was above Rgyal-po. Also, in a 9th century bilingual glossary Btsan-po the hinese word tiansi (or whatever you know what I mean) is equated with Btsan-po. The other thing I wanted to mention is it seems like you are using a pinyin based transliteration for Tibetan. No one uses this in academia or among Tibet enthusiasts in the west. I find it very hard to read. Some of us here on Wikipedia have madea compromise to use the Tournadre tanscriptions system, though I would have favourd Wylie. If you could use the Tournadre system I would be grateful. It may be that these thigns were things other people did on the pages you pointed me to, in which case accept myapologies. Russian cinema edit

I am somewhat burned out today, so I will only say this and go nighty: the division shoulb be historical/chronological. This is our only hope to make a stable system. If the names suggest or emphasize otherwise, we'd better see to it that we are talking of cinema history. The name of the country changed in time, regardless of political content, so we have to use the names under which the cinema took place. From the moment a country divides and its place is given to smaller countries (or if countries unite), we follow accordingly. Yugoslavia to Servia and what not, Russia to USSR to Russian Federation and all derivatives, Persia to Iran, Germany, whatever. We have to be accurate, historically consequent, we have to give correct lead sections, and we have to have WP consensus, because the deletionists are acting as if WP Films doesn't exist or matter. They don't like something? They don't even check if it stands in relation to other useful things. They gather 3-4 voices and it dissapears from our sturcture. Sure, I'd love to work on the article. BTW, I think it should use {{Infobox City}} instead. It could also use some citations. I'll check it out later. Khoikhoi 06:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Finnish template edit

Cool template! I've been meaning to write you anyways to tell you I'm behind on schoolwork and haven't gotten around to working on the cinema project, sorry. Hopefully I'll get everything up to speed this weekend :) -Yupik 09:02, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

BTW, to let you know: a place has been created for any Finnish --> English translation requests you would like to make at (Wikipedia:Translation/*/Lang/fi) so that it is easier for people to add, find and take care of them. -Yupik 09:03, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good work, I like the template. However, I would drop the bold font-weight and reduce the font size of the "Cinema of Finland" on top, so it would be more consistent with other WP templates. What do you think? Prolog 10:35, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey again. This is about what I had in mind:

  Cinema of Finland

Actors • Directors • Films A-Z • Film chronology • Cinematographers • Editors • Producers • Score composers • Screenwriters

I think that it is more pleasing to the eye without the bolding, but that's of course only my opinion. Prolog 10:59, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what pixel setting do you have wikipedia on? I have mine on the smallest font size and its barely readable!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 11:03, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I'm using 1280*1024 on a 19" LCD screen with default text size. The text in the template example above is still bigger than in a standard navigation box. Prolog 11:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's better now. The reason I'm suggesting the removal of bold text (except for the header) is that, as useful as the template is, it might be a distraction and drive the reader's attention from the article's main topic to the template, instead of providing a navigational tool for more interesting related articles. This is because the basic article text does not use much bold text. This is just my usability point of view. :-) Prolog 11:27, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'll try to help you out with the templates. Those lists look very good. Prolog 11:40, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I guess it's natural that some people want to make test edits and add a bit of nonsense, when they discover the "edit this page" button for the first time. Much of the vandalism comes from school IP's, and kids are kids. Yeah, WP:FIN tagging and assessing is a project I'm working on. So far, I've gone through Category:Finnish sportspeople and Category:Finnish actors, so I'll get to films and directors etc. eventually, if someone else doesn't beat me to it. Statistics can be seen on Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Finland articles by quality statistics. Prolog 11:56, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

World Cinema edit

  The Working Man's Barnstar
I present you with this barnstar for all of the hard work you've done with various World Cinema country templates, especially Brazil, Italy, and Spain. As they say in New Jersey, "You're a good egg"! Luigibob

Amigo, yes in Europe a little bit. I'll do an Argentina film next, in my usual Luigibob way. At least to a good START plus!

Hey: put your view in this poll: Talk:The Official Story. Vote your what you think. Since you're the Argentina Cinema marjordomo, your view is important.

We still need to find a consensus on CAPITALIZATION if the film title does remain in Spanish. That guy who came from up high (see my talk page) is not the final word. If he was serious he would change ALL of the Argentine films to fit his needs. We need a consesus.

By the by, I did a whole lot of work on the The Official Story, but Cop came in with some great copy edits. That's his/her strength. Type "A" personality.

Cinema templates edit

The one thing that strikes with the Italian one is the black background of the flag image. They should all be transparent, like the German (which has no flag yet). I will do a check in the morning to see more countries' templates and look at the available images for a series with transparent background. Hoverfish Talk 23:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I also saw some with light blue background. I'm trying to keep things tidy and nice looking, so let's make sure a full series of transparents is created (althought I think one exists somewhere, or elso where do all these nation-stubs get their flaggy icons from...). By the way, I started the discussion on capitalization here* and have asked Luigibob to make a proper introduction of the issue, so as soon as he does this, you may want to follow with your comments. Oh, and by another way, I just learned yestrday the origins of your username (I'm always late for tea, you know). Well, you should know I'm against nukes and all for Johnny English, but I don't give a triffle about Bond and other such blatant cold-war propaganda. However, I must admit that since the cold war ended, many others seem to be paying the price. (I mean where do we go if the "good guys" have no "rogues" to fight? Utopia?) Hoverfish Talk 09:27, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, about the volcano base and all, I guessed. I have seen Bond films and I even put together once the Autogyro Airfix model. But I hadn't paid enough attention to identify the guy as E.S.Blofeld (I always thought the one with the cat was "Dr. No" - but now I see this was an earlier villain). Now about the graphics: The Finland has also a black background, but its transparency is evidently set in black, so we don't see it (I saw it because I tried to edit it). There is something called alpha channel, which stores information for each pixel's transparency. So it's an alpha setting problem. Yes, Pegship seems to know more about such things. When she's back we can ask her to help. Hoverfish Talk 14:40, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tibet and other matters edit

Hi! Thanks so much for your kind comments about my photos of Tibet. Have just been having a quick look at some of your many entries. Great work! I will try to find some time to add info on the Ramoche Temple, etc. At the moment I am trying to focus on completing the editing of a book of mine on the Silk routes for publication - it is so tempting to get distracted working on Wikipedia articles. I am also trying to get the history relating to Songtsen Gampo's reign straightened out which is taking some time.

Really good to make your acquaintance - I do hope you will keep in contact.

Cheers, John Hill 11:47, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

PS How good is your Spanish? Mine is very rusty (I used to speak and read it fairly fluently but 40 odd years mostly in Australia and other English-speaking means I am not really up to writing articles in it any more). Would it be hard for you to do a shortened version of the entry on Cooktown in Spanish? Would you be interested? Or could you suggest someone else? Many thanks. BTW Where do you live now? Just curious. :^) John

I noticed, you're doing excellent work on The Maltese Falcon. With those "Background", "Synopsis" and "Cinematography" sections, I'd say this week is a success already. I like the screenshots too. The film is a great noir, so it definitely deserves to have its article expanded. Prolog 13:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Great work on the Maltese Falcon article so far. By the way, if you want to expand the information on the lighter props, http://members.tripod.com/~Transporter/TT.html might be of interest. --PhantomS 20:32, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I remember when I first saw the article at the beginning of the CCW and it was a mere start class and has now expanded to this. I think it looks really good and have upgraded it to B class. With the amount of information it has, it can at least get GA status if everything is properly sourced. It looks like these Cinema Collaboration of the Week (or several weeks I guess) are really improving the quality of our important articles. I'd recommend continuing to add sources and put it up for GA nomination and also get a film peer review before taking it to FA. Keep up the good work, the article has a lot of information with plenty of framework. --Nehrams2020 20:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Great work indeed. Looks more like triple the original length, actually. I can not really think of any information that would be missing, so I guess it just needs references next. My Toivonen article went through peer review without comments. Rallying is a small sport in English language countries, so it's hard to get feedback. I'll probably try WP:GAC next. Prolog 00:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

More Maltese Falcon edit

The Maltese Falcon work is really quite great, there only a few quibbles. Some may consider the page to have an overt amount of images in the plot section and find that the plot section itself is a bit overly long. Some re-arranging of pictures might be good to so we can images next to text that relates to the text more. It definitly needs more citation in the area of the Minor errors and flaws as it may seem too "imdb-ish" for some reviewers.

Regardless, i'd definitly send this in for a peer-review. Excellent work to all involved! Andrzejbanas 20:28, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hola Sir Blofeld edit

¡Hola Sir Blofeld! Muchissimas gracias por su nota. Yo lo oblido el mas parte de me español, pero no hay necesidad por usted a hacer nada. Es no mi importante. I will find someone who speaks Spanish as a first language.

I'm not much into movies (as I live right out in the tropical bush of northern Queensland, over 350 km from the nearest movie theatre and do not have a TV - though I do show DVDs at times), but I love the work you have been doing on Tibetan subjects. First-rate! I will try to find time soon to add some references and maybe more bits and pieces. I haven't been able to take the time yet to look at some of your other work, but I will.

You really MUST go to Tibet and get to know Tibetans as well as the country. In spite of the massive on-going damage and the horrible destruction of Tibetan culture (though we in Australia, are hardly in a position to criticise), it is still really a must-do. I think I would rather go back to Tibet than to anywhere else in the world!

Now is a good time to go while you can as the Chinese are gearing up for the Olympics and will be wanting to present a good, friendly face to the world. Tibetans want people to go and observe and record all they can - and the country is like no other place on earth - and, quite probably, the most photogenic. If you do decide to go - make sure you find a way to get away from tour groups (you may have to wait until after you get into the country), and make sure you have enough time to get a real feel for the place if you possibly can. Please contact me if you do decide to go - there are a couple of things I would love you to check on if you could.

Hasta luego, mi amigo,

Cheers and all best wishes, John Hill 08:11, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Narvik Stadion, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Tibet again edit

Yes, there is no doubt that Tibet rates very highly indeed as one of the most amazing places I have ever been. And you have such an interest! I can't recommend highly enough that you go (and as soon as possible!). The food is a bit tedious (to say the least) and the political situation is really depressing - but one should not live without experiencing the unbelievable beauty of the landscapes, the many historical sites, the amazing clear high-altitude light and colours, the magic, and not least, the wonderful hospitable people and their inspiring resilience in the face of all life has thrown at them. I think it is important to visit Tibet as soon as possible before more vestiges of the old Tibet are erased for ever.

It is some years since I was last there (1993!) so my advice is probably well out of date. My wife and I wanted to go but everything we could arrange from Australia was just so expensive. At the time, tourists had to enter Tibet with a group. So, we went to Kathmandu (and Nepal is an incredibly fabulous place to visit on its own) and arranged a flight to Lhasa with a 3-day group for a fraction of what it would have cost in Australia. When in Lhasa, we managed to get out of the group and travel on our own in the region around Lhasa for more than a month. Leaving Tibet, we hired a 4WD with 4 other tourists and a Tibetan driver and spent 8 glorious days driving to Nepal via Mt. Everest and many, many sacred sites, monasteries, Gyantse, Shigatse, etc., etc. The trip of a lifetime! I believe now you can enter Tibet on your own through China (either from Chengdu or via the new train). You will have to check it all out. Also, if you are into bike riding - it is quite popular to take a bike to Lhasa and ride south to Kathmandu. I think hiking would be extremely difficult and dangerous (there is a lot of desert and arid country to travel over and you could have trouble with bandits, police or army. I recommend getting the latest Lonely Planet travel guide and check their website for up-to-date info and stories from other travelers. Don't leave it until it is too late!

Re: Tibet edit

They look great to me. My only concern is that there might be a bit too many—they seem to crowd up the article. Perhaps you could remove a few? Also, so far, Lhasa only has 4 footnotes. In my opinion more should be added. I don't know too much about education in Tibet; perhaps you could ask someone else like Nat Krause. The history section definitely needs to be condensed. It's supposed to be a summary of the History of Tibet article. Other than that, good job. :-) Khoikhoi 01:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Film icons edit

For the Image:Thailandfilm.png, I used Photoshop, combining the Image:Flag of Thailand.svg and Commons:Image:Nuvola apps aktion.png. It's simple to paste the flag image onto the "action" icon, and scale it down to fit, and then merge those two layers and save as a PNG file. The key is transparency, so it's important, I think, to *not* flatten layer 0. I should have saved it to the Commons, and if I find time to make more, that's where I will save them. Something else to consider is creating the icons as SVG images. The SVG format seems to be preferred over PNG. However, I don't have the software or know-how to create SVG images. — WiseKwai 10:31, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I know you won't like this, but in my opinion, the Finland cinema is the best, as the links under the blue section are in normal text. It looks more refined. In India it's even more obvious as the cinema links are bold as well and this make it all too heavy. Also there may be reactions if we mix links to categories and lists. I didn't check them all. Are they all to categories, or do we have some to lists too? Hoverfish Talk 14:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have tried to bring this up, but it's still hanging unresolved. Yugoslavia should refer to films done while Yugoslavia existed. Croatian should refer to the films done since Croatia became an independent country, etc. Likewise, Russia was never an official name of a country, but of a part of a country. It should be Russian Empire, USSR or Soviet Union and then all independent countries as they are officially known. If we don't follow this, we will get problems again. Hoverfish Talk 14:50, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see. Yes, in this sense an actor that still lives after Yugoslavia was divided, is no more Yugoslavian but Serbian or Croatian. I would knock on their door and ask, or I would ask the community in general. I don't know what is correct, but I wouldn't just go ahead and then be CfD'd. WP Project edit

Organization-wise, you can make an announcement in WP Films and start such a sub-project. However it doesn't depend where you create the page. It matters who is interested to participate. For myself I am and will remain marginal in bios, apart from the filmography bit. If it's permission to start you are probing, I don't think anyone will object, but you have to make an announcement, stating scope clearly, and wait for 3 days before starting. If it's WPFilm members you want to involve, I think whoever has this interest is already into WP Biography as well. My advice is try to keep it as a side(child-) project, not a sub-project (WPFilms/...). Take a look at WP Screenwriters and you will see it's only one or two working there quitely. If you think you can keep it running and tidy, do it and maybe some other(s) will join you along the way. Hoverfish Talk 20:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

One thing I wanted to ask. Do you intend to use the cinema templates in individual film articles? I saw it done in some foreign films. You will raise a storm if you attempt to put American cinema in all films. As far as I am concerned it could go in general articles, in very famous foreign films that could be considered landmarks in a country's cinema and should normally be "importance=top". What you see going on in the talk pages ("reducing clutter") will start happening in the main pages. We already have debated/rejected the criterion collection box and many arguments were about too many footer templates. Can you give me an idea of what this template is for? Hoverfish Talk 21:37, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, if you go by probing and reactions, it may work fine. "The very bottom" should be before the stub template (before categories actually) stubs should be after cats and before interwikis. / Can you please take a look at what just happened in 1930 in film? Someone added lots of films (presumably all ok, but I didn't check) but also far too many "top grossings". Hoverfish Talk 21:51, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You see, the point is you should make some preliminary rules. There are some that could start putting it in every corner once you unleash it. So some quidelines should be given as noinclude text in the template page to keep its use in bounds. Like you can say it shouldn't get in stubs unless they are world-famous or something. Hoverfish Talk 21:58, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. No worries on those silent film galleries, especially now that you've 'fessed up and I know where you're coming from on that. I understand. Anyway, I am happily sidetracked for now with film icons. At some point I expect to return to the task of infoboxes and would be happy to work with you regarding the placement of images in silent film articles. Keep up the good work. — WiseKwai 17:08, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I was just deleting it where I find categories American films and Silent films also present. I could go the other way round. In which case we should scan Category:Silent films and do a thorough job on removing the two and giving only the cross categories (American silent films, German silent films, etc. The problem is when we double-categorize. Hoverfish Talk 19:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I looked: there are 847 Silent films, 247 American silemt films and 555 Silent film stubs. Of course there may be a very significant overlap in all ways. For example most Silent films I see have also the silent film stub. And from a first look several Am. silents are also in the parent category. My guess is they should be around 1000 articles to check. The problem is that not everyone understands about cross-categories and some may put the cats back. What do you say? Hoverfish Talk 20:52, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No %'s. I just looked at the numbers and took a wild guess just from samples I've seen. It's a biggy, so we have to make sure what's best to do. Hoverfish Talk 21:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pakistanfilm.png edit

The deletion of the image shouldn't cause a problem. A duplicate has been made at the Commons. I believe it is actually a truer representation of the flag, as it preserves the white field on the left. I didn't know Her Pegship had already done a version on English Wikipedia. I this doesn't cause her any problems. I believe that once the version on English Wikipedia is deleted, the stubs should pick up on the version that's at the Commons. — WiseKwai 19:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, great. I've left messages in WP Egypt and in User:Meno25 (active Egyptian user) talk pages. That should get this running. Thanks again, have a good night. - Anas Talk? 19:51, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaced images edit

I have replaced two of your actor images by cropped jpg's (I tried to re-upload them and there was a mess). So don't worry if you get notified for orphaned images. For Image:William Garwood.png I have created Image:William Garwood.jpg and swaped it in some 40 articles or so, and Image:Jack Richardson.png with Image:Jack Richardson.jpg, but that was only 1 article. Korean films edit

Hi, Ernst. Thank you very much for the compliment on the Korean film-work. It was a lot of fun doing the research and writing in that area, and I'm looking forward to doing some more eventually. I've been busy with other other projects for a while, and haven't been able to even check in here for at least a month. I do appreciate the invitation to work on the Argentine film project, but, as you may guess, my ability to work on the Korean and Japanese (and silent U.S.) films comes from long familiarity with the languages and cultures of those countries, which, unfortunately, I lack in regards to Argentina. I wish you good luck on that project however, and look forward to learning about Argentine cinema through the work of other Wikipedia editors. I also look forward to getting time to do some more work on Korean and Japanese cinema in the future. -- Rizzleboffin 22:21, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

CinemaoftheUS Template edit

Would you mind stopping by Template talk:CinemaoftheUS and clarifying a few things before you add this template to anymore pages? --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 22:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

So {{CinemaoftheUS}} is going to be placed on all American actors and films? I'm just trying to figure out what it is for exactly. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 22:12, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Erm, what does admin status have do with anything? Admins have no more authority than any other respected member of the community. Anyway, I noticed a bunch of articles on my watchlist had a template added. I was just curious to the nature of this template because it seems rather generic. However, for the life of me, I can't find any guidelines on when exactly templates should be used. I just haven't seen any widescale templates like that ever used on WP. For the sake of argument, your example of the Meryl Streep template is different. It is very defined in its usage. It is simply limited to her films. This template on the other hand is generic, supposedly meant to encompass anything related to American film. It seems like categories are better suited for this sort of thing. Most articles have too many templates on them as it is. Honestly, I don't really care one way or the other. I just wanted there to be some definition to this endeavor because if the template gets deleted, that is a lot of wasted time. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 22:27, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
You also mentioned it would only be limited to major award winners, yet the template is on Ocean's Twelve and Vin Diesel, two topics that aren't exactly raking in the Oscars. That is why I asked for clarification on the purpose of this template. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 22:33, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't see the point of copying awards and comments to my userpage... This isn't about winning an argument. Anyway, I've listed this template for deletion to get a wider community conensus. Please do not take this personally. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 22:42, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
You still have failed to respond to my objections. You gave up making any arguments on why the templates belong and instead, you resorted to ad hominem attacks [1] and canvassing. Threatening to leave Wikipedia because you don't get your way isn't going to get people to change their votes. Anytime you work on a collaborative project, there are times you won't get your way, that is simply the nature of working together. You might be a lot more successful in persuading people if you respond to my objections in a mature manner. You still haven't described any specific criteria for when the templates should be used. You even concede the USCinema template has no defined purpose. Arguing that other articles don't belong is another fallacy because we are discussing this issue. If you have a legitimate reason why they don't belong, nominate them for WP:AFD, just don't do it for WP:POINT reasons. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 14:27, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
If this is a "waste of time," then are you conceding that they don't belong? Surely if you felt they were worthwhile, it would be worth the time? Here's a hint, you would deal a huge blow to my argument if you simply gave some detailed criteria on when the templates should be used. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 14:40, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Again, comparing templates is not a valid argument for keeping them. Just because you feel other templates are not useful, doesn't mean both those and your's should be kept. Could you point me to your new criteria? I only see the old criteria from yesterday for which I have already argued why it is not valid criteria. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 14:47, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've never considered you a vandal. I truly believe that you are only trying to improve things. I am sorry that my statement about "deleting them all" wasn't as clear as it could have been. I probably was a little too hasting in nominating them for deletion. I just felt that our initial conversation was going nowhere. I tend to be bold and just act. In the future, all wide scale template additions should be thoroughly discussed before implemented. Along the same lines, they should also be discussed more before being nominated for deletion. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 16:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I know very well you are not vandalizing. No one said or insinuated that you are. Two editors (the fact that they are admins is irrelevant) don't agree with you. I know it's not always easy but don't take it personally. And for that matter, many editors might agree with you and think PS2PCGAMER and I are wrong. Garion96 (talk) 23:08, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sir Blofeld, the objection seems to come from adding the film templates to articles about individual films and film-related biographies. I'd hate to see the templates deleted outright after all the work that was done on them. Perhaps a much more rigid criteria for their inclusion could be that they only be used on the "Cinema of" articles for each country? What do you think about that? — WiseKwai 07:54, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Well, I am not a big fan of these templates but sometimes they are useful. I am rather neutral in this case. - Darwinek 13:25, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Obviously it is going to be a keep. However, I'd rather just let someone else close it. Don't worry, it won't be deleted. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 23:19, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of Australian films edit

Thanks for your comments and suggestions for the Australian films list(s). I did make some modifications of my own, inconsistent with the other sections (ie. Actors changed to Cast to also cater for actresses, not to be technical! And some films have multiple directors, hence Director(s). Also to make follow up and cross-checking easier, I think a links column is important to list IMDB, AMG and official site links, otherwise the information is a lot more difficult to verify. I'm also not sure about red linking every film when some aren't notable, or so insignificant they can be listed but not linked. I have had a browse of the other country lists and would like to fill them all out neatly as they are a bit of a shambles at the moment! I've based my lists for Australian films on the time I spent on compiling the missing films lists. A lot of the information will need cross checking with alternative verifiable sources. I think a budget and gross might be worth having as a column also but it makes the table very wide. I hope to add further detail over the next few weeks and move on to all the other country lists in time also. Peter 23:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You know, I am correcting for hours things that shouldn't be left in such a mess. It's irritating!! If anybody hits a list, what does he see? A page with a table overlapping a navigation? It's things like this that can get us in trouble. Articles should not be edited unless they are ready. One can experiment in his's infobox and when something looks presentable and free of glitches, then he can edit the article. Hoverfish Talk 21:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but as it was "natural" each column was of a different size and I got complains that it looked deplorable and started fixing it. They are not "fixed" by the way. They have %'s. Which means that if we reduce the table's width from 100% to 80% all columns will be the same but on the right side they would leave a 20% margin. But then we wouldn't have enough space for everything and lines would break in the middle of names. And by the way there is a very correct opinion that a list sorted by date should not substitute an alphabetical. I was experimenting just before with sortable tables, but it I have to ask some techies if there is a way to sort only by some columns and not by all, because we will get a red card again. Hoverfish Talk 22:03, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, you are right about the example of Argentina. But this should apply only in pages where there is one table. I will go back and make it "natural" on individual years. Hoverfish Talk 22:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

If we don't first work out a ready method for things and have people agree that it's ok, we shouldn't be creating such general series of articles. Else we get tags. Hoverfish Talk 22:13, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I made a mistake. I was changing the names but accidentally left the word "Chinese" in it. It should be fixed now... Just start tagging articles, and fill in red categories. AQu01rius (User &#149; Talk) 14:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Don't have to organize the categories. The bot will be organize it. I will change the template after I come back so that WP:Tibet have its own banner (like WikiProject Chinese Cinema. AQu01rius (User &#149; Talk) 14:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
No. That's for independent projects. Tibet probably don't have enough sufficient topics to act indenpedently as for now. But we can always change it in the future. AQu01rius (User &#149; Talk) 14:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template deletion edit

I want to lend my support as much as I can to keep the cinema templates you've started. As soon as I saw them I instantly saw their use and have used it as a main source for editing, verification and cross referencing. It's a crime that people make rash decisions and I really hope there can be further support to keep them running. Particularly coming from people who share no interest in the field. As I commented in the deletion log discussion, I think the templates provide an invaluable tool for verification and grouping all the film areas and gives an overall consistency. I even think they are significant enough to include on all related articles rather than just notable ones - simply for consistency and overall grouping of the articles. Hope it sticks around (and you for that matter). I'll be keeping my eye on progress. Peter 13:30, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The instant you showed the templates to me I went ahead and started adding them to film related articles - they absolutely must be there - it gives some continuity and completeness to the articles. I'm not sure why stubs wouldn't have the template, I decided to add to stubs as they would be expected to be expanded and are still part of the whole. It really halts the work I want to do when people make these decisions, I don't want to make any significant updates which takes a lot of effort when it's all going to get removed by someone with no appreciation for the content and effort. The current state of film articles have always been difficult to navigate and manage, and these templates make so much sense to me. It's one step closer to having consistency with articles and easy access to the other areas of film. I'm on a rant and will be very annoyed if it's removed on a whim. Peter 13:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It would be a much stronger move if things are first discussed in WP Films, so that a lot of members stand behind them and we can link to the consenus. Sometimes we are all too busy and it's more efficient to just be bold and go ahead, but the risk of exposing so much work to AfD is greater. I gave my support, as I am entitled to my opinion, but I also acknowledge that things which are still incomplete should not hit the main namespace until every little detail is cleared out (and not just in user talk). I know this slows things down, but AfD's also slow things down. Hoverfish Talk 15:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The point is it's not "your" work (when it concerns general organization-navigation) it's "our" work. And by trying to argue single-handedly as if it's your work, you make things worse. Avoid taking it personally, notify the project and members in a composed way and try to acknowledge the why of the nominator. He has a reason, and it is this reason that should be taken in consideration and alternatives worked out. Don't take it as "them" against "you" or even "us". It doesn't help any. Please, try to understand what the supporters of the deletion see and help in finding an answer to their querry. Hoverfish Talk 15:29, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I can see and understand that you must be very frustrated, but try to relax and not worry about it too much. ;-) It is as Hoverfish said, only a discussion, so don't make it personal. Try to have a good day. :-) - Anas Talk? 23:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ernie: Well, I'm not surprised at all. Of course I'll support the templates. They provide a super purpose in linking films. To be honmest, that's one of the reasons I started editing Argentine films. I saw the cohesiveness of the section. The template is very important.

The problem is ego and the "psychology" of some wikipedians. Some may feel they should have control in the section they work in. People begin to take "quasi" proprietary thoughts about not only their area of expertise on wiki, but in the edits they make in that area.

In a de facto way you take care of the Cinema of Argentina. There are others who may take the same approach to other areas of the cinema world but place ego very much into it (I've never found you that way). They subconsciously took it as an affront that you did not talk to them first. That's why I'm hesitant to take on other areas in the world of cinema, there are so many footprints and egos to deal with.

I agree with Hoverfish completely as to the approach you take vis a-vis the arguments you make in this matter. I also state that I'm in "touch with your emotions."

I'm glad to be working on the cinema of Argentina and have a very understanding majordomo such as yourself. You always see the bigger picture and have been of tremendous help.

Finally, I will be complety ticked off if the Argentina template is removed. Let's get our ducks in a row. I have some ideas on votes.

No need to worry Blofeld, looks like the current amount of 'keep' votes will prevent their being deleted. Glad to help. Ekantik talk 15:48, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, no need about this AfD, but I have a feeling that more will follow. The reason is that the template of lists by country, apart from some links that take us to some lists of considerable development (Australian, Canadian), link mostly to a ghost town of emtpy lists, some link to categories (which should be ok, but apparently irritates some) and some link to cinemas, which should be another series, separate from lists. If we don't give a big push to develop things (like going to each country category and bringing all films in the corresponding list, we will be busy with reactions. And you should know by now that I am not just imagining troubles... Hoverfish Talk 16:43, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

SE Asian film edit

I'm sure there are dozens of Indonesian films that need to be added. I have a book at home and tonight when I'm there I'll have a look and try to come up with some titles for you to investigate.

I'm hoping to keep plugging away at adding Thai films. I still need to complete the tablisation of the List of Thai films. My goal this year is to at least list every Thai film that is released this year.

I was glad to see the community get behind the country templates. It was a gratifying show of support. — WiseKwai 12:23, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ca Bau Kan is a good addition. Thai Thief was pretty bad, but it has a couple notable stars in Tep Po-ngam and Somlek Sakdikul. IMDb does a horrible job with transliteration of Thai names. The two names for the director-writer are actually the same person! I don't know how they manage to screw things up so badly. Anyway, I'll start a stub article for the director to cancel out the strange circular re-direct. — WiseKwai 13:43, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
We have to do the best we can with what we have to work with. I link to IMDb, but don't really trust them for name spellings. One site to check is MovieSeer, which is pretty slick in that you can toggle back and forth between English and Thai. However, their translations are sometimes pretty sloppy. SiamZone is good for posters, and if you search for an English name of a movie, you'll usually find the Thai page. It's the best I can do. I don't speak much Thai, nor can I read or write it! A Google search will turn up other spellings. Just settle on one that seems to be most common, or makes the most sense. I encourage you to continue helping with Thai films, if you want. I am happy to collaborate. — WiseKwai 14:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Ca-bau-kan.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Ca-bau-kan.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ↔NMajdantalk 14:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trying an alternative edit

Can you check in my sandbox and see if this offers a better alternative to multiple tables (plus the navigation in a horizontal way)? As for the way you argue, you should know it unacceptable and it brings me in a difficult position to support you. Please, refrain from such (over-)reactions, in particular sending messages showing the nominators in a bad light. It is a no-no. When you have people doubting or AfDing your work, act calmly, concentrating on informing the purpose of your work. I doubt I will take part in an AfD again if I see such missiles thrown against the nominating party. I have to help operate a dog right now, will be back soon. Hoverfish Talk 17:01, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, I gave up on this idea. It's better by separate tables (I had a look in Thai films and it's great the sortable option - but we have to enter dates uniformly, or the results will be deplorable). Swiss films was speedey-deleted 4 days ago from what I see. The given speedy-deletion code A1, I found out, means that it was very short or empty. Hoverfish Talk 18:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You don't need to copy my words as if I talk behind your back. You can answer directly where the comment was done, so that all 3 of us get your point at the same time. I could also quote you saying repeatedly that eventually they will be arranged by date, but since you clear this out now, I don't need to. Did you also notice that I am talking about sortable tables so that both needs get met? I ask because I don't seem to be getting from you any feedback about it. Do you like the model of the Thai list? If so we are five behind it and I am sure I know several more that would agree. So we could test it out safely in the Australian lists, and spead it further. The only problem is wherever we implement it we have to keep a watch on new entries, so that if dates are given, they are all in the same format. Hoverfish Talk 22:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think at the moment we have plenty to do and if we spread out our effort we won't finish anything. Which is generally my view concerning your contributions. Let's finish one thing at a time. The tamplates can be renamed later. I don't think anyone will mind. Hoverfish Talk 15:34, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Way to go! Keep up the good work. Hoverfish Talk 15:54, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is my opinion that you put too much into the list navigation templates. Cinema link is not needed, as we have the link once in the lead and once in the footer template. Flag: only the little simple 50px, not the film-flag, as this we have also in the cinema template. Also a more horizontal structure would save us empty space. I made a sample in my sandbox. Take it or leave it. Hoverfish Talk 16:54, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

If we include the cinema link in the list navigation, then we shouldn't include the cinema footer template in the lists (I've been adding it too in the Aussie lists thinking it was intended so). Also (and that's a cardinal point) the list lead should start with the page title, not with a bold cinema link. That's guidelines. We should write: The List of Australian films: 1920s contains awarded and notable Australian films of the 1920s... etc. Also, Australiafilmlist sounds good, can't we standardize them all so? If you like, work in my sandbox and let me see it with the cinema link. Hoverfish Talk 17:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good, keep it vertical if you like it so, but we'll never find any significant lead text to fill up such a gap. Next: what are all these disambiguation pages? We have the navigation in the template, do we need all these dab pages too? I say this because more will say this. For one it's very redundant to offer a link of the 1980s in the template, when this link takes you to a dab of exactly what the nav is supposed to do. Use Occam's razor before we get force-shaved. Hoverfish Talk 17:44, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No agree. When someone comes from outside and clicks List of Australian films, he should come to the big dab and from there he can enter anywhere. But when one is in, he shouldn't find links back to the dab. I would delink them in the template(s). As for the decades' dab pages, I don't see a use for them. Do we link to them from outside? Hoverfish Talk 17:57, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You lost me or I lost you. What did you remove? The big dab is the only useful one IMO. What do you mean we should link to something in the template? The template links to all individual lists. We just shouldn't link in circles back and forth. Hoverfish Talk 18:12, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Now when one hits List of Aus. films, he goes to the pre-20s. He should be instead in the big dab, but not from the template, only from outside articles that call the Aus. list. Yes, delinking the decades is good. Hoverfish Talk 18:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's fine, one clicks from outside (via cinema template) the 1980s and he's in the 80s. No problem there. But when one clicks from the (say) World cinema the Australian list, he comes to the pre-1920s, which has the title of the overall series. Therefore, any outside link to List of Australian films could lead to the general dab. It's one click too much only if he wants to go directly to the pre-20s. The benefit is that we don't give a general title to list that is only about a specific period. I know it's tricky, but we have to give title as per content. Hoverfish Talk 18:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You know, I just love simplicity and the German lists before the 1990s look by far better than what we are attempting in the other lists, but that's just me I guess. Hoverfish Talk 21:56, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I know that I don't own the list, but please, let me fill it up with films which have an article, for which we can state some notability, or at least some director or actor that is somewhat famous. When I am ready with all the films available from the category, I will format the tables and then, if you think that there are not more pressing gaps in other lists, you can add films that no one ever heard of except by scanning imdb. S'il vous plait, Monsieur Bloféld, merci et a la votre. Hoverfish Talk 00:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

template conflict edit

Hey mate, I've just had a thought which could have some discussion about, I think the two templates Template:Australiafilmlist and Template:CinemaofAustralia have duplicated info - ie it seems redundant to have the film chronology in the cinemaofaustralia when that's what the film list template is doing. Any thoughts? I do like that the cinema template has the chronology though. Peter 00:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

release dates edit

I do think it looks neater with title being first on the list articles. I don't know about duplicating the table(s) for release dates though. I think the column "Notability" should just be called "Notes" which includes additional info. But then with the idea with the separate release table, I also like the idea of the image table. It gives the "article" more credibility or variety rather then just being a list. But because it is a list maybe there's a way of combining even more detail.... what about this idea, is it too way out there and asking too much and cluttering things... a movie poster/screen capture, release date, titles, directors, cast, additional crew, notes, awards, budget, box office, links (imdb, amg, official) (and all other detail in info boxes), maybe even a short one line plot summary all still in one row which is arranged more like the lists of tv series episode (eg: List of House episodes, or The Simpsons (season 4)). It might look cluttered or overkill or very messy if some films don't have images or much info. Otherwise we could have (eg.) "List of Australian films: 1950s" have sub sections: "Key Australian Cinematographers of the 1950s", Release dates, posters, screen captures, directors, actors/actresses. Then should these details be on seperate lists/articles. Now I'm raving. Peter 21:49, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Set up talk page? edit

If you are refering to the list sub-project, I took a look at this new proposal that Doctor Sunshine posted in WP Films. If you have looked into it, it looks like we are up to a Tier 2 or what is (was) usually called task-force. So I'll keep to the date I set (the 20th) as we may hear more useful things about it. / I'm almost through "L" in French films, which is almost half the way through. But I also have to check if in the subcats there are any loose films. Hoverfish Talk 19:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think people won't connect the article with the passing away. Well, don't feel guilty about it. Take a look at the List of French films instead (still not finished). Hoverfish Talk 22:06, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just copied the formatting from the BAFTA list. A bit too sassy for my taste too. No, if I remove the color, it gets hard to see where the years split. I'll find a light tone of some decent color and swap it. There is a huge advantage to this layout: people can enter films easier without worrying about incrementing rowspans. Also, the browsers need less effort to form the table, so even if a page is quite loaded it runs smoother. I take my poor system here as example: in very dense pages with long tables w/ rowspans and colspans at some point the cell frames are skipped, and I see part of a table without cell borders. My goal is to simplify the code as much as possible so I can keep it all in one page. Hoverfish Talk 22:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yep, it looks better now. A bit more boyish. Hoverfish Talk 22:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nope, "a small separation" means separate tables. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I know you want them all uniform, but I try to find a golden rule between presentability and data size. Plus if they got all these lists featured, you might wonder why. I am looking into them for hints and it seems efficient coding is definitely one. Hoverfish Talk 23:23, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up. I do think it is a good idea, but I don't think I'll be involved in this. I guess I don't want to get hung up on semantics. Workgroup or Project? What was I thinking? It could be exactly the same as WP:MUSICIANS, which is technically a child project of the WP:WPBIO A&E workgroup. The film project would take the actors and directors and add folks like cinematographers, editors, screenwriters and producers. — WiseKwai 16:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Back again edit

Hello, James, I changed my mind. Thanks for your good wishes.

Your suggestion re the philately coverage is our ideal, really, but unfortunately there are only a handful of editors on that project and it will be a long process. I think if we can do an article about every issuing country that will be an achievement and we are aiming to do that.

Keep in touch. All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 19:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of film title consistency edit

The list of films that are longer and have been split into separate decades have slightly different titles. eg. I thought List of Australian films: 1960s (with a space before the date) looked better than List of Argentine films:1960s. What are your thoughts on this? Am I being too fussy? Or are the Australian list titles inconsistent with standard naming conventions? Peter 02:20, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah probably not much to worry about :) And the list isn't quite so "screwed up" but I'm just starting to get a little lost in the deep end with it. I hope to add details over the next month or so. Not sure where my time is at for now... Peter 11:09, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think I have asked you not to mess with the French list until I am ready. I don't want films without an article and surely by this I don't mean you should start useless stubs on all those shorts. I will revert you and before you remove this "long template" you'd better contact the editors who put it there and who last gave their consensus to keep it. It's not all that long ago. Hoverfish Talk 12:25, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is not me who is is wasting your time, but the other way round. I have asked you not to add films without an article. I also don't appreciate what you are doing. the list is well over 50KB and I want to see how big it will be when I have all the notable films WITH article in Wikipedia. It may be that the list must be split, or not. I will give a link to the French films without article, after I compile it as well. What's who's problem? Are you out of things to do? Hoverfish Talk 13:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blofeld I am working all my free time into this. You are making me lose a lot of this time with endless discussions. But today I would like to finish what I started. You can correct the mess you did in the Austrian list for one. Hoverfish Talk 13:19, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks for the films. If I get very tired with compiling today I will start a couple of basic stubs on them (if I find enough matterial). Hoverfish Talk 15:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sortable lists edit

The sortable option is pretty cool, but it has drawbacks in that columns that don't need to be sorted are made sortable. Of course, this is only a drawback if the people using the table are complete idiots. To me, it is intuitive - the information that needs to be sorted is sorted by the readers, and the info that people don't want to see sorted, doesn't get sorted. I think the only people who are bothered by this lack of control over the presentation of the information are Wikipedian editors! That said, I was using the sortable option on List of Thai films, but I abandoned it until I am able to fill in all the years. It just looked haphazard. And even then, I'm not sure I'll reinstate it. I just had a look at the List of French films and saw some things I liked that I might incorporate. Then there's always the Australian option of having an article for each year or decade. It's a work in process. One option would be to keep the work offline - maybe compile it into an Excel spreadsheet or something like that, and play around with it until things are arranged the way you like and then work it up into Wikitable format in a sandbox and when it's done move it into the mainspace. — WiseKwai 17:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would say that this last suggestion by Wisekwai is Wise indeed. It is a very serious matter that when we edit lists (and articles in general) when we press the "Save page" button, the result is already checked for glitches and is presentable. Any list that is partly compiled, should not be in the main namespace unless there is some appropriate tag on top (like {{underconstruction}}, or for shorter periods {{inuse}}). It's not only a matter of avoiding AfD's. We have to think always that some visitor clicks on the link to find what the title promises and depending of what he finds (or doesn't find), he forms his idea of the quality of Wikipedia. Hey. This is a great proposal and something that I have been waiting for a long time. In fact, when I was new and joined WP:FILM I kept tagging directors' talk pages with the project template, because I figured they must equally important as the film itself. The reason why I haven't participated in the proposal discussion yet is that, like many others, I'm not sure how the project should be organized and what should be the scope of it. I have now at least listed myself as one of the users interested in this project. I'll try to join the discussion later. Thanks for letting me know about this, by the way. Sure, I'll try to help out with Rentun Ruusu when I have the time. It already looks very good for a stub. A computer crash can be quite a mystery indeed. My 1.5-year-old computer crashed for the first time last Sunday, as I was watching the 2007 Australian Grand Prix live. "Perfect" timing, I'd say. WP:WRC is in pretty good shape for a small project. We have managed to create articles for this season's rallies as they have come, latest one being 21º Corona Rally México, so continuing that is a good target. The project also has featured content now, even if it is only an image. Prolog 21:44, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I noticed that you closed this TfD, even though you had vocally commented on it. This is, to be honest, a bad thing, as the closing admin should, ideally, be impartial. DYK edit

That's great that we're getting a lot of attention for the films on the front page. Just this month, we have surpassed 50 GA articles and have a few more on the way. There is currently a Did you Know? section in the Spotlight department, so each time we get a new one, you can list it there to help put some focus on the project's successes. So far it is very limited (I'm sure we've had dozens to hundreds of film-related DYKs but I haven't had time to search the archives. I've been very impressed with how many of the articles you've been starting are already start or B classes. I hate tagging all of the newly created articles and seeing two line stubs with no images/infoboxes/categories or following the style guidelines. It's good to see you're doing so. Translation edit

Here's the translation, the best I could do in a hurry:

A story of impossible love and dreams that come true.

A woman dulled with praise, Nelli (Pamela Tola), is well on her way to Med-School thanks to her parents, but dreams of a career as a singer. She is desperate to find a demo to show off her talents.

Down-on-his-luck suburban Sune (Samuli Vauramo) is a talented Hip Hop DJ, who is a affraid of women. To prove his friends otherwise, he bets he can make Nelli fall for him. They don't believe that she'll do as much as look at him. Nelli, however, sees an opportunity for herself.

Playing each other they end up falling in love. This causes troubles for both. The beauty has to learn how to not please everybody and the drifter has to begin considering others in his life and his art.

Sune's friends are unhappy. Nelli's father is not wild about the idea either.

"Tyttö sinä olet tähti" is modern picture of Finnish youth at the brink of adulthood. It tells of love, dreams and principles - as well as how everything often turns out the other way you expect.

It stars Pamela Tola (Paha Maa, Skene) and Samuli Vauramo. Eero Milonoff (Populaarimusiikkia Vittulanjängältä), Joona Saartamo (Menolippu Mombasaan), Mikko Leppilampi (Keisarikunta) and Mikko Kouki (Paha Maa) play supporting roles. It is the silver-screen debut of Dome Karukoski (born 1976) a awarded director of commercials and short-films. It was written by Pekko Pesonen, who has recieved praise for his writing on "Lapsia ja aikuisia". The music was composed by Jukka Immosen Friend Music.

-

A movie about Finnish Hip Hop cultire and young love. It's a film where "boy meets girl". Boy and girl fall in love in spite of the fact that they live in different worlds. Sune (20 years of age) is born and bred Hip Hop DJ. For Sune, raised in tough environment, Hip Hop is everything. He does beats for the street-wise Kärkiryhmä rap-group, and packs up frozen chicken to finance his studio. When it comes to his art, Sune will not compromise. Nelli (18 years of age) comes from rich and whole family. She is dulled with praise. Nelli is completely indifferent to the attention and appreciation of others. She would give anything for a career as a Hip Hop dancer and singer. When Sune and Nelli meet they begin their journey towards a record deal and romance. The two are complete opposites, but together they are a whole. Sune needs Nelli to escape the black-and-white judgementality of his life and Nelli needs Sune to escape being everyone's pet. The moral of the story is simple. It doesn't matter what stands in your way, love will always triumph.

The first thing I noticed was the naming convention. It should be a lowercase "b" on biography. Perhaps start by writing the scope and noting the parent project and related projects. The parent to WikiProject Film Bios should be Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Arts and entertainment. Arts and entertainment. In developing WikiProject Film Bios, it may be important to ensure that it meshes with Arts and entertainment. Arts and entertainment includes Actors • Architects • Artists • Illustrators • Painters • Photographers • Sculptors • Comic artists • Comedians • Dancers • Directors • Musicians • Poets • Writers and critics. The scope of WikiProject Film Bios probably should include film actors, film artists, film illustrators, film photographers, film comedians, film dancers, film directors, film musicians, and film writers and critics. -- Jreferee 19:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Screenwriters edit

Hello, I actually want to keep this wikiproject separate from the rest of the film industry. It's geared towards film and television, and what ever other various things have scripts for video. I think there should be a WikiProject for actors, and one for directors, and even one for producers. My opinion is that all those theoretical wikiprojects should be separate so that the articles they cover are written from a perspective distinct to the career. When I read an article abuot an actor I'd like to read about their thoughts on the profession, and vice versa on a director, and how they got there, and the difficulties doing so. Clumping different types of articles together doesn't seem right to me. But I appreciate your efforts. I also liked the template you put together for screenwriters, (and directors, actors...) with all the nationalities. To be honest, while I'm a fan of the film, I haven't really been involved in the development of its Wikipedia article. I have other projects that have my attention at the moment (Fight Club, for instance), so I'm not able to be a contributor for this particular film article. There's other strong contributors, though -- I'm sure you can initiate dialogue with them on the film article's talk page. Best of luck in your endeavors. —Erik (talkcontribreview) - 15:37, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

What's the warning on the edit box; "if you don't want your work edited mercilessly, don't add it". Try and have a look at WP:SS and the ways most film articles are structured. Casino Royale isn't famous for introducing free running. Thanks, and happy editing. Plus, be more specific with DVD cites: it's the For Real doc right? WikiNew 15:46, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of international film festivals edit

List of international film festivals has just been created. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 15:40, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good convenient too. You may be pleased to know I had 3 films on the front page in three days. My most recent is Torrent (1926 film) which will be the fourth!! -it has been nominated so it'll be on the front ion a few days. At present though I am going through the List of Argentine films and completely filling it in -a difficult task!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good luck on that. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 15:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good idea that list and very accessible. Bravo!! There are so many smaller film festivals missing from wikipedia though!! I forgot also to tell you am drawing up the model for the new Film biography project covering all actors, direcotrs, etc. It needs a tremnedous amoutn of work before it is made main space but it is a start -next step is to modifiy the biography template to incorporate cinema people. What do you think of the overall idea? User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld/Film biography page model is the page ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:52, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Awesome and it is a good thing to see many participant. When do you plan to publish the page model? I am sorry for not being able to participate in project for now as i am dealing w/ 4 other projects already. However, i can help from time to time. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 16:01, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The use of "disambiguation" edit

When you say this disambiguation page in the German list, it is not correct. Disambiguation links to different meanings of a word. This actually is a list of the unified Gremany era films. Hoverfish Talk 17:28, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

If a site is SPAM it will go, for sure. But no one can take away links to true sources that we use to derive our matterial. Actually one of the requests of good lists is to give as many references for the sources used as appropriate. I haven't checked all the links, but I know most of them are archives and sources. They give value to the article, so don't be afraid. As for people leaving wikipedia to other sources, this is unheard of. We are the most comrehensive compilation in the known universe. If anybody leaves, it won't be long before he gladly returns. Hoverfish Talk 18:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I personally don't want to mess with Pete's links. If the inquisition tries them by fire, I am sure the useful ones we can save. But think of it this way: where else can one find such a ritch compilation of resources? In Wikipedia, of course! In Google one has to have huge amount of patience to find the useful ones from the crappy stuff, unless one is extra good in search keys (I'm not). / Yes, Otto is doing a splendid work. Time these lists you started and fought for get editors the world around to become what they were intended to be. Your initiative was excellent, this is why I protected them from the first moment. None of the deletionists had looked much into WP Films needs. But they are still there and we still have to get them functional with addequate content. Are you starting the German lot, or shall I start combing the Category:German films and filling up some? Hoverfish Talk 18:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re:List of Argentine films edit

Sorry you didn't see the comment at Talk:List of Argentine films. A user left a comment there and I thought it was best to answer to it there. I watch all the articles I care about and check for messages at their talk pages; I assumed you would see the message quicly enough.

Nevermind, nothing was deleted! I really appreciate your work, but user Cop 633 has a point on the redirects; it prevents you from guessing a missing article (marked as a red link) from an already existing one. You will find this useful even for yourself, when you need to know which films are still needing an article.

I know you and Luiggi are undertaking an incredible job, and you are doing really well. So do as you see fit, yet I again suggest you leave films without an article as red-coloured links instead of a misleading redirect.

Take care, and good wiking! --Mariano(t/c) 19:01, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You'll definitelly cover the most complete Argentina realated topic, for sure! --Mariano(t/c) 19:06, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

mass linking edit

It wasn't set in stone the idea to link to plenty of IMDb articles, but I felt it necessary for films without an article, the link wouldn't be displayed on a non-existing page. I also thought there would be additional links to the official website, all movie guide, rotten tomatoes, box office, film festival sites, notable au sites - any of these places give the title credibility and a platform to create an article. Otherwise it's a blank title with no further detail available or to be verified. Is there any other way you might suggest this be done for titles without articles? Icelandic film edit

Yes. I hope I will be adding a lot of info to this great new templete. Can I ask where you got the poster for Saga Borgarættarinnar (film). I`ve got almost all Icelandic posters at Listi yfir islenskar kvikmyndir and am completly unaible to find more. If you could direct me to the right place for more it would be greatly apreciated. I will soon be adding these posters to the english version. And a few articles about my favourite icelandic movies. Since I`m now living in Japan, I will probably not be able to get a lot of up to date information. But instead maybe I will update the Cinema of Japan. Thanks again for your hard work. --Steinninn 08:03, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Im not sure what Im doing in Japan. Just looking for a job. The money is not as good as in Iceland, but the experience is very rewarding. I found two more posters by googling. Thanks for the addvice. I still think its unfair use to use the posters. BTW, where are you writing from? --Steinninn 08:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

LOL edit

Thanks! I was wondering who expanded the article actually. It reads very nicely, but could probably do with some more citations. Do you have an intention of making it a GA? - Francis Tyers · 09:06, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, thats what I was lolling about (the lesbian thing). Have you seen the film? It is really quite good — I've seen it several times. Although now you've read the spoilers you won't be surprised as I was the first time I saw it. :) Also Victoria Abril is lovely :D (And yes, I think with some citations it could easily be a GA). - Francis Tyers · 09:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

DYK edit

On 27 March, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Torrent (1926 film), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Re:Film edit

Hello sir! Yes I already had noticed the templates built by you. I frequent Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian cinema and I saw your posting there, too (in the talk page). Thanks a lot for creating the templates. And it's a mammoth task to create such templates for cinemas of all the countries of the world. It's awe-inspiring.

Well, you can of course start a Bengali language film article and get it to the DYK in main page. Have you heard of Ritwik Ghatak? Some of his films are yet to have an article. You can try there. Films of Satyajit Ray have been covered. How about expanding Raja Harishchandra? Please have a look at Bengali cinema, too! Regards, and thanks.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I have seen Uttara (film) a few years back, probably in 2001.I am not a great understander of fims, but it seemed pretty ok, so far as I remember. In fact it was shown in our college cine-fest, along with a variety of other films like Sarfarosh, Saving Private Ryan etc. Besides creating articles, do you also see films of various countries? You write really fast, the article has already got nice shape. Some citations would make it perfect. Just in case you get to see some reference in Bengali (or Hindi), let me know so that I can help you understand that! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:30, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes definitely. Would read it soon. And you may go through Satyajit Ray, which is a FA, too. No other Indian film related articles are FA yet. One is GA —- Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:44, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Uttara edit

Hi. The article was a nice read. Great job. :) However, I did find a few issues. The first is section naming. The Synopsis section is not content with the synopsis. But details the entire plot. And next is Overview - one expects a high-level plot summary. But it presents a critical analysis. So, I think the naming should be revisited. Also, many people might find the length of the plot description on the longish side (when I first scrolled down the page, I did think it was overly long, but after reading it, don't think so). Also, in the Synopsis section, in 4th and 5th para it says, third world, fifth world and sixth world. Wheres fourth? Also, the word world struck out a as bit odd. And of course, the refs, but thats an issue you are already aware of.

Other than that, its an exemplary piece of editing work - one of the very few articles which is not just informative but very enjoying to read as well. Keep up the great work. :) --soum (0_o) 20:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Abbas Kiarostami is also a superb piece of writing. Great job. :) --soum (0_o) 20:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thats great. Sadly, I have no knowledge about Nepal or the Nepalese people and there culture except for a few phrases of the Nepali language. Anyways, wish you good luck with the project. --soum (0_o) 20:47, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that was quite a run of DYK articles. Nice work! I'll have to do some more. Mainly I'm filling films from director filmographies. But thanks for reminding me about the WP:FILM lists you started; they have the Thai name of the films that I'll need to click on to make redirects. — WiseKwai 22:01, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

New category edit

Hi. thanks for your "congratulations" about Spanish films. ¿eres argentino? yo soy español y seguiré trabajando en la pagina de cine español, aunque soy MUY NUEVO con wikipedia, bastante desastre con la tecnologia, y se me olvida hacer el log in.

I don't know if you noticed, but I started Category:Films of the Second Reich and I put some order in categorization so that they (categories and lists of German periods) appear in the proper order (also in category german cinema). I see you enter films: do you also correct categories of the individual articles (German films to West German films, etc)?

I will finish formatting the Weimar page and will pick up from F (I persume from the category list). Hoverfish Talk 12:58, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why don't we get some German academic opinion first (ask the German portal? Oττο?). Just be careful that we don't create POV page titles, or... you know. Hoverfish Talk 13:20, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, let him fill it. Formatting will follow anyway. Hoverfish Talk 13:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can't we keep East German films in one page? They don't seem to need a split. Hoverfish Talk 14:49, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please, keep them in one page for now and we can see later. Have you seen the French page? I may split, but later. Let's see what we get at full length first. Hoverfish Talk 14:53, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, ok. Do we have to red link so many films? Are they all "needed articles"? Hoverfish Talk 14:59, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

This thing with the red links should be discussed by all of us who work on lists, but in the main project, so we can hear more opinions. I took them off the Australian list, but had in mind to run the list for famous ("needed") films and link them again. But I don't feel confident either way. This is why I think it should become a major discussion topic. Hoverfish Talk 15:09, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actors and directors connect to more than one article, so red linking them helps to find in "what links here" of the unedited page, how many connections we have. But a film is just one item... either worth an article or not. The issue of notability and inclusion is still open. Don't think that because there is a silence lately, it's closed. And there are many who would would even AfD film articles for notability. Lists with massive red links is like waving a red cloth at the bull. Hoverfish Talk 15:14, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I noticed the Spanish as I had it on watch. Good going with the bunch of them. It's Christmas for SPECTRE. The bait seems to work. I wonder what your next move will be. SPECTRE meets SHADO? Hoverfish Talk 20:21, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The UFO article gives her name as Gabrielle Drake (see big picture). Could it be you got the wrong one? She surely looks different here: [2]. Not even the color fits... Hoverfish Talk 20:48, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I sample-checked some of the East German films you have placed under the list, as if it's your sandbox. Some are French with who-knows-what German co-production %age. Some are unknown TV films. Why should we list all this dump? Just because IMDb has it? Hoverfish Talk 23:22, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, if in my recent overload of wiki-tasks lately I have accused you of any wrong-doing that was not your work, please excuse me. I will repair the defamation as soon as I get a breath. Till then. Hoverfish Talk 14:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I apologized at Prolog's page and will do so in Sunshine's too. I just saw your name in the history and didn't check. It's not cool what I did, so please, excuse me. I have 12 tabs open at the moment and try to deal with 4 of them at the same time. No excuse, I know, but still... Hoverfish Talk 15:28, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
