Sorry... edit

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Someone must have been lazy, as you have not been welcomed yet. Thank you for your contributions. Since you have been here for a while, we can pretty much assume you are not a troll, vandal, or clueless newbie. I hope you continue to like the place and don't get all grumpy and leave over nothing. Here are a few good links for newcomers, even though you aren't one:

I hope you still enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian, and won't get mad over something stupid and leave! By the way, please be sure to continue to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome, and sorry for your not being welcomed in the past! Argyle edit

Hey Blahedo, you did a nice job filling out the "argyle" article. Welcome to the project. Joyous (talk) 11:04, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I've been slowly making my way around Category:Knitting to flesh things out, and I just finally got around to reading how to upload photos to the Commons. :) /blahedo (t) 00:59, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Knitting Pictures edit

Yes, I still have the original. You're defiantly right about the spelling, I'll fix that soon. I'm also working on making one for purling. As for the clockwise vs. counterclockwise, I believe I am wrapping the yarn around the needle in a clockwise manner. If you look closely at the picture you can see that the yarn goes diagonally across the needle, starting lower on the left side and higher on the right. I actually got out a pair of needles and knitted a sample, and I do wrap the yarn around clockwise. It may be that I knit differently from most people, I'm not sure. When I tried to wrap the yarn counterclockwise not only did it feel awkward, but it resulted in the stitches being arranged on the needles differently. When you knit which side of the needle is the first strand of the stitch on? When I wrap clockwise the stitch starts in front and goes to the back, but it is the opposite when I wrap counter-clockwise. Hopefully you are able to understand what I mean. Loggie (t) 01:20, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I fixed the spelling, and added instructions for purling. I think we probably purl differently if we knit differently, so please look at that 'picture' for me. Loggie (t) 03:22, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Wikibooks edit

Someone (actually, Danny, Jimbo's executive assistant at the Wikimedia Foundation) asked me to point out to you that Wikibooks doesn't have an article on how to knit a sweater. Just in case you're interested. Kelly Martin 15:13, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! re: Knitting edit

Thanks for working so hard on the Knitting article! I have been wanting to work on it but haven't had the time to properly dig in to the project. You are doing a great job of improving it. Thanks! ManekiNeko | Talk 20:59, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

User:Kelly Martin told me you were a graduate of IMSA. I'm planning to apply to go there this year. Just stopped by to say hi ;) — Ilγαηερ (Tαlκ) 20:36, 20 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi! And best of luck on getting in to IMSA. I am indeed an alum, though not a graduate---I was only there for two years---and I still think it was a great place to be, not just for the academics, but for the people you meet there. Have fun! /blahedo (t) 03:52, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Musical mode edit

Hey, nice work refactoring musical mode; it needed it! (Another friend of Kelly's dropping by, but actually I have that article watchlisted, too.) Mindspillage (spill yours?) 17:50, 26 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Knitting Machine edit

Hi, thanks so for fixing my typos, I'm usually very particular about that sort of thing so I much appreciate the speedy cleanup!

I searched hard for a suitable picture, and had decided to wait until I could create some because those currently available were very nice but unsuitable. There are two good pictures of what looks like an industrial, circular, knitting machine, for which articles exist, whereas this article needs to explain domestic flat bed machines, and from there to give perspective on the others.

Taking the audience's viewpoint and working from the familiar to the less familiar, someone coming here to look up knitting machines has a high probability of wanting to see what a modern domestic or small studio knitting machine looks like, usually the flat bed 200 needles punch card variety or with electronic patterning added, which I'm trying to get photographed this week. The relatively fewer people who want more information about industrial machines can find several articles which already display those two pictures that are currently available.

What do you think about leaving it pictureless until something more appropriate can be acquired?

IMSA edit

Thanks for rewriting the new sections. I can't believe how POV some of those were and I tried to remove some of the more blatant attacks. The reworked version is a lot nicer. Good job —Ilyanep (Talk) 01:25, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Wikibreaks edit

Haha...that'd be nice. I'd love to see the expression on their face. Also, I plan to go home on most weekends so I'll have time then. Thanks for the suggestion :) —Ilyanep (Talk) 03:16, 12 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sumer is icumen in edit

I have replaced fart you reintroduced in the poem with "forth". On the other hand it is highly unlikely that a song with a F*** word in it would be sung in a church choir! Nowhere is ferth translated with that four-letter word in any authoritative translation. Plenty of reference is available on the links section of the article in question. Please note that ferth is rendered as forth also in OE dictinaries. If you find something to the contrary, please let me know. --Wikipedius 20:13, 13 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

secondary school infobox edit

Thanks for creating this infobox, and thanks for adding it to Oak Ridge High School (Oak Ridge, Tennessee), and for finding and uploading the mascot icon. --Allen 05:02, 2 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Nice summary of the infobox university template. It took me a while to figure it out. Your summary makes it much more obvious. The secondary school one you created ooks useful too. David D. (Talk) 03:18, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the infobox (Pius XI High School)! It looks pretty sharp! -Nicktalk 06:52, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

No infobox for Bard High School Early College yet. Does it fit under secondary or university/college? Skomae 02:59, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the box, I've replaced the use of Template:Infobox School2 in Stuyvesant High School with yours. RossPatterson 23:10, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Formatting edit

The basis of my argument at Talk:Horace Mann School (New York City) was from the Manual of Style (a guide based on editorial consensus, not a policy). Specifically I referenced Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Keep markup simple to argue that, all things being equal, an infobox with wiki formatting is more in keeping with Wikipedia's editorial openness than an HTML entity. --Dystopos 04:12, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

A newcomer to Wiki (McClancy Article) edit

Hey! Thanks for stopping by the Monsignor McClancy article. I didn't see the change, but now I believe it's the info box after having read your user page, just a big thanks. By the way, How do I upload images? I want to upload the McClancy mascot and seal pictures... Thanks in advance.

I didn't mean to sound vulgar or redundant in any way, I was in rather a hurry when a friend mentioned there was an update to the mcclancy article and I hadn't a chance to submit mine in the mean time, it really bothered me, sorry about that. I've also just figured out what (diff) and (hist) means (I'm very wary of just clicking links all over the place). The WikiDocu on ownership clarified many other ideas I had in mind as well, thank you for bringing the topic up. I'll look around and start reading other official documents before I contribute any futher. Again, totally sorry! :( :D

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zorn's Law edit

Based in part on some of your comments in the merge discussion, I've nominated Zorn's law for deletion. I figured you might want to know. --Bachrach44 01:55, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! and question about SVG edit

Hi, Don, thanks so much for your really nice notes on my Talk page! The knitting articles were fun to write, although they still need a lot of work. I really don't know much about SVG, though; is it better than PNG? I tried to read up on it before writing to you, so I wouldn't be totally clueless, but I wasn't able to find a good "comparison" webpage. It seems like SVG might give smaller files for schematics like the sweater designs, might be editable and might print better when blown up huge. But a big drawback seems to be that not all browsers support SVG, especially IE -- is that still true? If you could help me understand why SVG is preferable, that'd be great. :) WillowW 10:19, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sequiturs and catfish edit

Hi. No, I didn't originate the saying "Life is just one non sequitur after catfish." I have no idea where I got it from, probably some collection of thoughts for the day such as the Unix cookie program. Paul Foxworthy 07:54, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

US as abbreviation for United States edit

I saw you've been botting US to U.S.—is this reflecting some new WP policy? I think the version with periods looks awful, and it would seem to fall under the dictum of "leave it the way the author wrote it" unless superseded by some other style rule. /blahedo (t) 05:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The (very old) guidance can be found under Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Acronyms_and_abbreviations:- When abbreviating United States, please use "U.S."; that is the more common style in that country. When referring to the United States in a long abbreviation (USA, USN, USAF), periods should not be used. When including the United States in a list of countries, do not abbreviate the "United States" (for example, "France and the United States", not "France and the U.S."). You can find detailed discussions on the talk page archive. Rich Farmbrough 09:34 6 August 2006 (GMT).

Frère Jacques edit

Why are you sure the French text is the original text? What do yoy know about the history of this song? I know only it refers to the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela before the 17. century. But it could be Spanish too or Latin perhaps. There isn't information about the history of Brother Jacob in France too. Please contact me [1] and see my article [2]. Eeek! edit

I don't know if you saw Image talk:Dvorak keyboard2.png, but it looks like Commons is inadvertently hosting several more "Key Caps"/"Keyboard Viewer" images. Can you hack up similar comparison images to the one you did there? If so, they should be ample evidence for the Commons people that those images are deletionworthy. 68.39.174.238 00:22, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I keep turning more of these up. I'll list them all here:
I'm talking to User:StuartBrady, who seems handy with SVG keyboard layouts, to see if he can get some known legit SVG diagrams to replace these. In the mean time, if those are direct copyright violations, they should probably be notified. 68.39.174.238 00:54, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure that you really need more evidence. Just dispute them, point them to the comparison image at my site, and see what happens. The background is clearly a copy. The actual letters are not in the default Lucida Grande in e.g. the Qwerty picture, and I don't have a keyboard layout file for HCESAR so I can't do quite the same smoking-gun comparison as I did for Dvorak, but what's there should be enough. /blahedo (t) 17:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Aargh, SB just told me about the previous attempt at deletion of those images, and the result. I may try again. If nothing else I've notified Afrikaans about their two, local, violations, and tagged two of the Commons images as redundant to SB's free SVGs. 68.39.174.238 15:05, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Untagged image edit

An image you uploaded, Image:Bishop Carroll crest.png, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 11:26, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Belenlogo.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Belenlogo.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Could you look at an article? edit

Alternation (linguistics) looks fishy, or at least badly explained, to me; the article could use review by someone with training in linguistics. If you could take a looksee, I'd appreciate it. Kelly Martin (talk) 03:31, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
