Thank you for your support edit

Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 20:39, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am sure that you shall continue to strive more diligently to create the sum total of human knowledge. All the best and a Happy New year. Time is dynamic and so is life... --Bhadani 17:48, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

kriya yoga edit

Dear Bhadani, If you could please help me figure out what is needed on the kriya yoga page for my edits to stick, it would be greatly appreciated. I wish to proceed with utmost respect for those who are actively editing the page, as they are greatly concerned about authenticity. I also don't want to waste time or energy arguing because I've learned it never ends well. Please see my discussion on talk:Kriya Yoga for information. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hamsacharya dan (talkcontribs) 03:36, 8 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Pakistani nationalism edit

The article has been protected after a POV user made [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pakistani_nationalism&diff=98568048&oldid=98563667 this edit. The edit war that caused protection began with this same edit and everyone else was reverting it back to its older accepted version for a long time. Does this allow for the old version to be restored or will it be considered wrong to do so during protection. You can judge the NPOV of the two versions yourself, the bulk of the older version was written by a Pakistani user who believed Pakistan won the Kargil War so its not as if its Hindu POV pushing. Can you please help on the following by entering the dicussion.

Aga Khani Islamic Cults

In India and Pakistan the followers of Aga Khan are known as Aga Khani so I need you help on this, secondly as in India where Rajneesh had a cult there are many Islamic cults and I need your help on that as well.

Can you join in the discussion

Nice meeting you. I also thank you for your message. I have heard about Aga Khani and have read some articles about him but I do not have deep understanding of the matter you are talking about. I think you may please contact some other editor who may be knowledgeable about this matter. Regards. --Bhadani 05:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can you find someone who could look this up or can you atleast spend a few minutes and check the discussion on Aga Khani

Thanks

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin edit

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin
I appreciate what you said (longer ago than I'd like to admit), and I like to think I've been as objective and neutral as possible. I have and still do take the community's trust seriously -- thank you for a piece of that trust. Luna Santin 13:12, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Query regarding names in other languages edit

Hello Bhadani,

I have been having a discussion with a fellow editor over here and we seem to disagree about whether or not to put Sunita Williams' name in Hindi on her page. I have been arguing against putting her Hindi name, because Williams is a citizen-by-birth of the USA (please see the aforementioned talk page for more details). Her Indian link is through her father who was an Indian immigrant. Just for the sake of uniformity and for future reference, I would like to know if it is appropriate to include names in the native tongue of people who are the second (or generally, nth) generation offprings of immigrants.

I would appreciate your opinion on this. Is there any WP rule/guideline that can throw more light on the issue? I read this and this, but couldn't find a lot of relevant information.

Thanks, Max 11:56, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template WP India edit

I'm sure you know that recently {{WP India}} was forced to introduce a 'pre' factor when it is tagged on talk pages so that the image no longer features the Indian flag on pre-independence articles, which some Pakistani editors saw as insulting. Nevertheless, the Pakistani flag is still visible on all articles, even articles relating to famous Hindus who were born and lived in the West Punjab region long before mentions of Pakistan. You may also have become aware of the Swastika debate at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Hinduism and the resulting break for analysis at Wikipedia:WikiProject Hinduism/Swastika. Here, Hindus may be forced to remove the Swastika from their welcome templates because Hitler used a distorted version of it to launch genocide against the Jewish people of Europe. These things are piling on and on, where compromises are being reached that are inherently biased in that they do not affect the whole of Wikipedia but only the Indian and Hindu WikiProjects exclusively. I've been talking about this with D-Boy, I was wondering what your views are about this. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 03:54, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Creation of categories edit

Mr.Bhadani Although my edit count is over 1000,I had until recently not created any new category-after reading Josef Mengele's page I felt he should be identified as a racist. To my surprise, hthe page was CSD'd.I would value your advice.I think people like Mengele and Hitler are easily identified as racists without any dispute.Regards(Vr 06:17, 22 January 2007 (UTC))Reply

I may be wrong, but many times I have felt that we are creating an encyclopedia by consensus and not a real encyclopedia as such! This may be a strength as well as a weakness of wikipedia. In my opinion, ultimately, the collective wisdom of the community prevails, and in a large online community associated with wikipedia none is sure of anyone's real credentials and worth and one has to compromise on many issues here. T%his being the case, you should not think much about such matters, please continue to add value - someone shall be there to deduct value, but ultimately the gross value shall continue to grow and the wikipedia shall continue to become stable and more reliable. Regards. --Bhadani 16:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Are you around? edit

Bhadanijee, aren't you seeing such gross injustice meted out to an editor of high potential [2]? How can you suffer such Adharma, when you stand here for peaceful and friendly environment? Slowrunner 12:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I do not have any comment to offer as I am not aware of the issue and I do not have time to go deep into the issue. I also do not want to go deep. However, I may add that Wikipedia works on consensus (unlike true encyclopedias) and it has a long way to cover to emerge as a real encyclopedia - it is a different matter that a number of wikiepdians think otherwise. As such, it is fine if you are able to participate in adding contents based on consensus (not necessarily based on real facts!), you will not face any problem. All the best! Regards. --Bhadani 14:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
After all, is this project going to seeds? I sense a shade of dejection in your note above. I specifically sought your intervention on the above issue for two reasons. Firstly it was some Indian admins who trolled and resorted to personal attacks on user:cindery with the result that she lost interest in contributing to the project. Secondly, unlike most of the Indian admins, you havee always shown a mature, levelheaded approach in the face of controversies. You are respected and your opinion counts here. I personally believe that you should put your foot down when some erring admins go on a disruptive course harming the project. Regards 59.91.253.209 14:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You are right that there is a note of dejection in my words. I have reduced my commitments and involvement to the Project as better editors and still better administrators are there to decide consensus and build an encyclopedia by consensus and representative of agreed contents and not contents based on factual position. In this exercise, generally encyclopedic contents emerge and then are lost over a period of time! I do not want to intervene and involve myself in such issues which lead no where and is a wastage of efforts and energies. I am thankful to you for your message. Have a nice time here and enjoy the fun of building the sum total of human knowledge! --Bhadani 15:51, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
BTW, I do not want my opinion to count here as it hardly matters. I have many real life projects to participate and express my creativity than loiter around here! I do some edits as it has become a habit. --Bhadani 16:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Who edit

Nice to see I am not alone: Google search on "According to some" returns 3230 hits - not all are lacking references, but most do. Gosh. There is also [3], [4], and so on... I have discovered this funny (and I think quite useful) task of identifying unattributed statements in articles. --Edcolins 14:08, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes you are not alone. If we have to build the project and make this a true encyclopedia, proper attributions are surely required. i saw a who on one of the pages under my watch, Nalanda and got the idea to do this so that editors having information are prompted to attribute the sources of the relevant contents. --Bhadani 16:11, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Logo of Polaris.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo of Polaris.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hi,

I hope you still recollect, you were one of the first few who spoke to me, on this forum. I need you to have a look at the discussion I added on Subhashini Ali in the following user page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Rohitde

The actual article is on Subhashini Ali. Our friend does not even know the correct name of this politician (his current insert of infobox has Suhashini Ali) but he assumes some content was not suitable to stay. I could have understood rewording, but not deletion.

Regards, --Bobby Awasthi 14:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bobby, Bhadani has changed since you met him long long back and he now understands wikipedia better: we are not making any encyclopedia as such but an encyclopedia by consensus and based on majority's choice. So, I feel helpless and foolish in intervening in this environment. Regards. --Bhadani 17:03, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
