Bot wrongly added period between comma and reference

Hi, I just wanted to inform you that your bot, BG19bot incorrectly added a period between a comma and the reference following it in Girl Meets World. It was already correct before the fix. Adding a period there made no sense, so I reverted it. nyuszika7h (talk) 17:50, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Nyuszika7H The bot didn't add a period. Per the edit summary, punctuation marks do not go directly after references. The bot moved the period from after the ref to before. Im assuming it was a mistake, and I have reverted back so that the section is there once again. @SpacemanSpiff, Utcursch, and Sitush: In some ways, this reminds me of the OccultZone disaster, using socks with differing language skills. I start looking for similarities, but it again reminds me of OccultZone analyzing the most minute detail to do SPI's. I do see patterns that they are the same person, but I don't know if I'm OccultZoning or not. Utcursch, you've dealt with both, what do you think? Move request

I tried to move a page, but was prevented due to technical reasons. I was hoping you could fix this. The page I am seeking to move is The Fader. I want to move it to The FADER, however this page redirects to The Fader. The reason for the move is to reflect the use of capital letters as used by the online magazine site. Thanks. @Bgwhite and Mitchumch: This should have been left at The Fader, see WP:TITLETM "Items in full or partial uppercase (such as Invader ZIM) should have standard capitalization (Invader Zim)". Please check if your edit of 4:56 was not restored by your later edit. My edits were a mistake, as it turned out. The user who made the previous changes explained this in his latest edit summary. I did not take into account that this was a science article which should use standard measures and simply was changing it back to the prior usage in the article. I apologized to the user for my mistake, as I now see it. Since that user has restored their original changes, I do not need to make any further changes. Another user has commented on my talk page that my changes were in fact correct and should be restored. He notes this is not a science article but a history article about the observatory and its telescopes and metric measurements in fact should only be used as dual units. The telescopes are not referred to in metric units and were built before metric became standard. So after conceding, perhaps on the wrong basis, I am now called upon to reassess this. I left some advice for the new user who commented on my user page, including reference to pages that may contain help or may be forums to seek further comment or resolution. I don't want to trouble you with this but I wanted to let you know if you see this matter continuing you are aware of these further developments and are not surprised. I could write an explanation for the dual unit measurements based on this further perspective plus my original page reference, but because of my shift in position, I think I may need to call upon one or two persons to comment or mediate this. Also, due to visitors arriving, I may not have much time to resolve this for a few days. I think I put the matter on track with the further user and it can be progressed soon. Sagaciousphil With several long-term socks, I always have the same issue. Is it real or is it my imagination? With what you already mentioned about Oraytt, there are two other things. 1) I looked up "Oraytt" on Google and Filipino results appear. Bruce2366 was also doing Filipino articles and Orayht also comes up with Filipino results. 2) Previous socks did death threats. Good faith goes out the door as I'll err on the side of those who have received the threats.

I know that every Wikipedia edition has its own rules and guidelines, however I couldn't find anything about this in guidelines on English Wikipedia. Tridek Sep There isn't supposed to be multiple blank lines, especially when formatting that way. {{columns-list}} will form columns based on equal size. This is good for lists made up of individual lines. You should use {{col-begin}} template. With this template, you tell exactly where you want the columns to end/start. Carlisle Military School

Not at all sure what you recommend to do with the section "Alma Mater" you deleted. The article is about a school..so what is wrong with having a section providing the Al Mater? If you would explain what needs to be fixed to keep the Alma Mater in the article, please help. While I thought the centered photos were better placed, if this is not the standard that Wikipedia wants then I am ok with that as well as placement of "Further Reading". Additionally, at least for Zeigler - his accomplishments, per referenced material is notable. What is surprising is I was asked to provide "better" references than Wikipedia (due to the disclosure that Wikipedia is not considered in and of itself a good enough reference. Got me in a "Catch-22" here Bgwhite. Please realize Carlisle was a small school - and what both Ziegler (in a major college sport_ and Martin (higher education) is notable within that context. Please provide me some leeway on these two - or at least respond. So far on Wikipedia all editors have done is make arbitrary decisions - with absolutely no further explanation or reversal of their editorial actions, regardless of any rationale or argument I present. I have had photos deleted even though they were pre-1923 with no known copyright, and I simply asked what I needed to do to make a better explanation to repost those photos - I never recieved any answer. Songs are rarely used in articles about schools. One reason is they are usually copyrighted if created after 1927. Secondly, it doesn't add anything about the the school. You don't learn anything about the school. It's good for a website, but not an encyclopedia. There are articles on School's fight songs, but the song has to be notable. Named reference as punctuation?

Hi there, I noticed this edit in which BG19bot reordered a group of references. In particular, it moved two named references in front of the full reference, while leaving another two named references behind it. There's absolutely no problem with this edit, but I was curious -- is there a reason for preferring this order? Or are the named references somehow being interpreted as punctuation? Abecedare I haven't done a topic ban before, so my "on the record" response would be I don't know. Off the record, yes, it appears to be good. Chrishitch is unable to have a normal discussion, unable to listen to other people's point of views and degrades other editors. Their ramblings in discussions make it very hard or impossible to understand their point of view. If they don't change, they will be blocked. If you mean the parameters usually tacked on to the end of the image, I believe the regex currently throws them out as is. (Like I don't know to make it detect whether a caption field already exists so as not to duplicate it.) Vuelta an Andalucía

Hi. I've just seen this edit to 2015 Vuelta a España. You introduced an error that I've seen a few tools making: changing "Vuelta a Andalucía" to "Vuelta an Andalucía". Obviously the latter is incorrect, as the phrase is in Spanish, and equally obviously this isn't a problem to fix in this one instance. Relentlessly That was my fault. I should have caught that. Normally with "weird" spelling, I'd recommend use {{not a typo}}. However, as this contains non-English words, I recommend using {{lang}}. For example {{lang|es|Vuelta a España}}. In theory, we should use that template on the majority of non-English words. For those using a screen reader (ie the blind), using the template will tell the screen reader to pronounce it "in Spanish". Deprecated parameters on Hayrick Island

Hey Bg, I don't think it's worth compromising the factual accuracy of the article by saying the elevation of said island is 150m when it is in fact more than 150m, in favour of removing deprecated parameters. Unless there is a way to add the ">" without breaking the function (which I don't have the coding expertise to know), I really think the old parameter should stay; if it is to be removed altogether, it really really shouldn't be as the accuracy of the article would be compromised. Ljgua124 First off, new talk discussions always go at the bottom. There are no articles that use |elevation=. They all use |elevation_m= or |elevation_ft= This has been deprecated a few years now and will be removed. People in the U.S. use ft, so you are saying they don't matter. How is saying 150+ accurate? MSJapan They don't come out the same. "reflist|2" will always have two columns. The number of columns on "reflist|30em" will depend on screen size. If you have a wide monitor, then you could have 3 or 4 columns. If you have a tablet, you could have one column. The "reflist|2" option is now deprecated. See Template:Reflist#Columns for the info. It is most noticeable at small font sizes. I just discovered that the flags also cause row misalignment at small text sizes. See Talk:List of countries by intentional homicide rate. The article should have a lead paragraph, then the table of contents and then the rest of the article. 2) You removed info from the infobox. 3) You added an uneeded list at "Other Notable Achievements ...." Most of these are not notable. There is no independent, reliable reference to back these up. 4) You added references from Wikipedia, LinkedIn and Maken himself. These are unreliable references and shouldn't be used. Some info could be referenced from Maken, such a Date of Birth and family info. 5) This one is minor. Edits that effectively hide vandalism

This edit removed an orphaned HTML tag, but the edit before that was pure vandalism. If you fix a page after vandalism then it serves to hide the vandalism from page watchers. Do you think there's a solution? Binksternet (talk) 01:36, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

I envision the birth of a new bot: StalkerBot! Hi, your bot made this edit to "Zune software" which has added content that could have easily triggered an automatic revert as vandalism. I'd strongly advise that you are better off fixing these kinds of problems up before BG19bot gets reported as a vandalbot and you wouldn't want that to happen, wouldn't you? It looks to me like someone on his opponent's campaign has added a ton of stuff about the ongoing ethics investigation, well beyond the quantity of text warranted, as a campaign smear. I was going to edit it myself and whack all but the first two sentences and the references, since those sentences give a good and concise statement about the investigation. Reference error

CV9933 The second edit by AWB looks to be a manual edit. When I run AWB on it, it doesn't create the error. Just because it says AWB, doesn't mean editors don't manually edit. I do wish to assure you that I didn't know you were there, wanting additional information and communications, until 20 minutes ago. Then, I must have looked like a complete jerk, re-pasting in what you had just rescinded.

Next I hope I am in the right place to address these issues. You indicated that I was to post to the talk page. But, both you and the article have a talk page, so I selected the one that I thought would be most congenial for you. Naturally, as an editor of Wikipedia, you desire an explanation to the changes. You are right, the change in the article is significant. However, as Wikipedia stated at the head of the article, prior to my edit, that "This article needs additional citations for verification." The most significant change I made, therefore, was to provide the aforementioned citations. I hope that you will forgive my immodesty when I point out that I have more than tripled the number of citations, from a scant 8 to a robust 27.

Of course, poor quality citations are of less than no value. In this case, I have cited a modern, author, Sean McMeekin, who has published 5 successful historical books, is a history professor in a private university in Istanbul, hand has a BA from Stanford and a PhD from Berkely. I also cited the famed Italian journalist, Luigi Albertini, a number of times, including to support other peoples entries.

Assuredly, the most controversial assertion in my entry concerned religious intolerance prevalent in the Kingdom of Serbia at the turn of the twentieth century. However, I used two independent, unrelated and disinterested sources to document this assertion. While the First Balkan War raged, In a New York times interview, a Professor Sloane lamented that American Protestant missionaries would have a much harder time operating in territory conquered by the Orthodox Balkan kingdoms than they had under the Ottoman Muslim regime. This is not exclusive to, but is inclusive of, Serbia. The English author, Edith Durham, detail religious intolerance in Serbia. User:Kuk1910 So, this old fart will be talking to you, an old fart. Coming here for help is perfectly fine. However, some of this needs to be on the article talk page.

My main objection is the inclusion of signatures and some bad formatting. Normally I'd fix this, but there are over 40 signatures. You don't sign in articles, but you do sign on talk pages.

I don't know what the other person objects to. It appears they are Serbian. There are some polar opposite views going on. For example, you have as Black Hands purpose being, "Subjugation of Austrian-Hungarian Croats and Slovenes under Serb rule". They have, "Liberation of Austro-Hungarian South Slavs". This needs to be hashed out on the article's talk page. If you two can't come to an agreement, then a third party can be brought in. I'd start out small. Pick a couple of paragraphs that you think is least controversial and go from there. It's good you have references as that is the most important thing.

I don't know which bot is appropriate for this. Since Bgwhite removed extra = from an article, I think it might be able to do this as well. Wouldn't it be a good idea to replace <references/> with {{reflist}} in articles?

Capankajsmilyo You left a message in the right spot. I'm still confused. The article already has {{reflist}}. In the case of the edit on Mahavira, the bot was there only to fix a section header and can't do anything else. Replacing <references/> with {{reflist}} is only a good idea if there needs to be more than one column, in which case, the bot can't determine if a single or multiple columns are needed. A bot could be replace <references/> with {{reflist}} straight up. A bot just to do that wouldn't be approved because it would be "cosmetic edit". Replacing could be added to another bot's function. Thank you for your input on List of Governors of California; if you don't mind, I'd love to hear your input on the modifications I've made (based heavily on that one) to the other governor lists, the best example being List of Governors of Arkansas. The main changes were: Merging term in/term out; changing the fractional terms column to a much more useful 'term' column, illustration which elected term of office we're on and which were shared; merging the color bars vertically, simply for making things look nice; and adding 75px-wide portraits to every row, removing the need to the picked-and-chosen list on the right that made the page narrower. Technical issue with template

I am finding articles that use Template:Infobox musical artist with distortions. See Sade (band) as sample of this distortion. When I check the What links here link for this template and view various articles with this template, some have distortions and others not. For samples of those with distortions, see Crowded House, ABBA, and others. This distortion can also be found in the corresponding "Navbox musical artist" templates found at the bottom of their respective pages. I don't know how to fix this. Any suggestions. Thanks. I want to try this again. I am seeing issues with images not appearing in infoboxes, although the file is in the template. I tried examining this in a different browser, but got the same results. See Socialist Labor Party of America and Black Panther Party as examples. Also, the image for Black Panther Party was originally "File:Bpp logo.PNG", but produces the same issues. Am I mistaken? The image File:SLP logo wiki.png for the Socialist Labor Party of America and the image File:Bpp logo.PNG for the Black Panther Party were tagged with {{di-orphaned fair use}} by User:B-bot on 7 September 2015. The edit summary states, "Tagging orphaned non-free image for deletion. If this image is not added to an article in the next seven days, it will be deleted."

Mitchumch, you have me stumped. I've asked the question at User talk:Alakzi#Template:Infobox historical American political party. If it is a problem with the infobox, then yes, other images could have been deleted.

What's weird... The infobox used for Black Panther Party is just a wrapper for {{Infobox political party}}. Canadian Action Party uses {{political party}} and its non-free logo is showing up as being used.

I just converted Socialist Labor Party of America to use {{Infobox political party}} and the logo is no longer an orphan. The best solution will be to convert all the articles (~35) to use {{Infobox political party}} Bgwhite (talk) 08:56, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I examined Socialist Labor Party of America and I hate to write this. The infobox template hadn't been changed only a modification of a field within the old Infobox historical American political party template. I changed it to Infobox political party and had to make one additional change to make it identical to the previous template. The change in status of the image File:SLP logo wiki.png was due to a manual edit by User:Alakzi. I also reverted the edit by User: B-bot on the image File:Bpp logo.PNG.
