The New 52

edit

I respect your constructive criticism, and your attempt to mollify any negative perceptions of it by prefacing it with a compliment (thanks, btw), but I believe it's perfectly valid to level legitimate criticism at people who do sloppy, shitty work. A newbie can be excused for not knowing a particular policy or guideline, which is why I don't criticize them for that. Incoherent writing, on the other hand, is not a newbie issue. If a person is old enough to presume to add a paragraph to an encyclopedia, then they should be able to compose a sentence in the English language. Word processing programs even have Spell and Grammar check for people whose writing skills aren't the best. But the complete disregard for writing that motivates someone to leave gibberish like this is absolutely indefensible. If only one sentence out of a 7-sentence paragraph is legible (and only because it's the simplest, briefest sentence out of the seven), and you don't even know how to use indefinite articles like "the", or conjugate a verb, then simply put, you have no business editing here. Sorry if we have to agree to disagree. Nightscream (talk) 14:55, 18 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I had never interacted with him before. Others apparently have had problems with him, as those earlier messages on his talk page were not from me.
And btw, I read the back-up story in Justice League #6 that Nteinkvnc cited as his source, and barely any of it supports any of what he wrote. The Phantom Stranger mentions to Pandora that she "rewrote reality". she responds that "I realigned it. I strengthened it." This is a bit vague, and the rest of their conversation even more so. While their exchange could the beginning of the reveal as to what caused the New 52 reality change, we should wait until more details and clarity are provided. At the very least, a blow-by-blow of that backup story was not called for. Since the exact meaning of Phantom Stranger's accusation was a bit obscure, it would be synthesis to conclude that he meant what you or I or Nteinkvnc thinks he meant, and we should wait until we have secondary sources on it. WikiProject Wikify and the future of wikification

edit

Hi! There is an ongoing proposal at the project talkpage concerning the future of wikification, including possible deprecation of the {{wikify}} template which is being discussed at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2012 August 10. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Stub tags

edit

Hi, Please take care not to add {{stub}} to an article like Day sailer which already has an appropriate subject-specific stub tag. Please also note that all stub tags go at the end of the article, after everything except inter-language links (see WP:ORDER). If you go to put it at the right place, you're more likely to spot the existing stub tag! Thanks. PamD 21:38, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A9

edit

I've declined your speedy request at Sherry Rich & Courtesy Move as it doesn't fit. A9 is for non-notable recordings, but only when the artist does not have a Wikipedia article. Sherry Rich does. Occasionally, it appears that an artist doesn't have one. An example would be a rapper called Wart hog (could be one - they do pick what look to me like very silly names...) where the author had just put the [ ] round the name without adding the (rapper) to it. It's always as well to check this both in Search and in Google to be sure. (Sometimes you get the chance to nominate the artist instead, then come back later for the album...) Peridon (talk) 11:18, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

If an album isn't A9, or spam, prod or AfD is the course if considered non-notable. Personally, I consider many albums non-notable if their article is only a track listing. I can't see the point... Peridon (talk) 11:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy tagging

edit

Thanks for patrolling new pages, a tedious but essential task! Two points:

  • After you tag a page, you should copy to the author's talk page the notice that the speedy template generates for you, towards the bottom, when it expands on the article page. Otherwise he doesn't know what he has done wrong, or what has happened to his page, and probably just puts it in again.
  • You tagged Royal rupan krishna with WP:CSD#A1 only four minutes after it was created. New users often put in only a few words and then press "Save page" to see what it looks like: it is BITEy and discouraging if a speedy notice pops up almost immediately, so it is recommended to wait at least 10 - 15 minutes before applying A1 or A3 tags, to see if anything more appears. See {{uw-hasty}}.

There is good advice at WP:NPP, and advice on speedy tagging from an experienced admin at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. Keep up the good work! Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:56, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

That guy who looks like Sting

edit

I really do hope that the John Constantine article can be cleaned up--it's always a struggle bringing articles about comics characters up to decent standards as they become magnets for overdetailed in-universe info at the expense of decent sourcing and (sad to say) even decent formatting and writing. I've seen that editors are objecting about removal of details, but that really all boils down to WP:V--what matters is what reliable sources say about the subject, not what we assume should be in there. New/uninformed editors don't automatically grasp that, so we just have to be patient about it. If you're committed to cleaning up the article, I can pitch in a bit more to help you out. And if you want some assurance that I know what I'm doing, one of my prouder accomplishments on Wikipedia was completely rewriting Watchmen to help it pass Featured Article Review four years ago. :) WesleyDodds (talk) 13:59, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan

edit

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!
