Suggestions for possible new articles

While we do disagree in some particulars, I don't want you to think I don't appreciate your value to Wikipedia, the Military History project in general, and the ACW task force in specific. With this in mind, I'd suggest two new pages in your "in the American Civil War" series: Cotton in the American Civil War and Immigrants in the American Civil War. I'm not sure I've captured the intent with the second title, perhaps "Immigration in the American Civil War" would be better, or even another title. It's just that so many non-native-born soldiers participated in the war and there are some notable leaders on both sides (Siegel and Cleburne to name two) which deserve an unified treatment. When thinking about your next new work, please consider the enormous usefulness of at least the first page. BusterD (talk) 14:19, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Chee kufta

Hi, in your new article you use the spelling kufta for this dish. However, Armenian cuisine consistently uses the spelling kiufta (except for your addition of Chee kufta). Northwest Territory task force?

Would you be interested in forming a task force for the Northwest Territory? I've never started one, but I thought we could form up under Wikipedia:WikiProject United States History. The reason I'm considering it is that many of the articles dealing with the NW Territory (or the daughter territories) are dealt with as individual state histories, and I think we could do better if we instead focused on the enormous Indian territory that the new United States inherited after the Revolution. General: I noticed an odd error of phrasing in one of the next DYK tags, but I can't figure out how to edit it (since it's in a template somewhere). It's the one informing us "... that sprint canoer Thomas Zereske's life was dedicated by his former teammate Christian Gille's gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the C-2 1000 m event?" Battle of Hampton Roads

Hi, Bedford. - Thank you for your comments on the article. I want to explain some of my reasoning, and hope to prod you into some more work.

1. I leave the citations in expanded form (that is, repeat the titles, etc.) as something of a convenience for later editors. If someone decides to eliminate, or move, the first citation of a book, he then does not have to revise other citations. I know it is a rather remote likelihood, but it is no inconvenience to me, as I cut and paste from my bibliography.

2. I have not requested peer review for higher status because I do not think it should pass. The text is not stable - I have made sure of that myself. What I hope is that it can soon be put into more or less final form, and then we can settle down and anticipate the final judgment.

If you agree with my reasoning, perhaps you can see where I am leading: This article is probably close to FA quality, and needs only moderate effort to bring it back up there. I have done what I think I can do, and whatever else needs to be done must be done by others. I hope that you are one of those others. - PKKloeppel (talk) 14:59, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Corned beef sandwich

Hi. I explained my deletion in corned beef sandwich. It's a digression, as discussed in WP:COATRACK, from the topic of the article that sheds no light on the topic. As such, it warrants deletion. You restored the text without explanation. I'd like to remove it again but I wondered what your rationale was for restoring it. —Largo Plazo (talk) 02:21, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

1) It isn't a coatrack; 2) we had engaged in lenghty debate about it a few months ago, and the result was it was kept, 3) It is the famous moment for that particular dish, and therefore deserved to be mentioned there. 1) It is a coatrack by the very definition of coatrack. Can you tell one thing that one can learn about corned beef sandwiches from reading that story? 2) The discussion was about deleting the article. 3) It wasn't a famous moment about corned beef sandwiches. It was a possibly famous story that happened to involve a corned beef sandwich. There was nothing about the fact that it was a corned beef sandwich, as opposed to a tuna sandwich or a corned beef empanada or a chocolate eclair, that made any difference in the way the story played out. The bottom line is that three quarters of an article that purports to be about corned beef sandwiches is actually about astronauts misbehaving on a space flight. By the way, since we're talking about 1812 articles... can you tell me why the {Indiana history} template defaults to an expanded view in some articles (like Kekionga) but is collapsed in others (like Siege of Fort Wayne)? Yes, I'll be splitting more off soon. (I'm trying to get breakfast done). As I'll eventually get the pictures for all these, best to plan ahead and split off cities one by one. Probably Portland next. However, the US Marine Hospital is showing different lat/long on the article page than in the edit page for me. Kentucky in the War of 1812

Yeah, I might be able to help on that article, but it won't be next week, as I'll be out of town on business with very spotty access to Wikipedia and even spottier access to anything resembling a reliable source. I'll also be juggling a few FA and GA noms, but given the current "molasses in January" rate that those things are going, it shouldn't interfere too much.

Since I did the bulk of the articles on Isaac Shelby (current FA nom), Richard Mentor Johnson (GA), and John Adair (GA), I could probably do some additions regarding the Battle of the Thames and the Battle of New Orleans. Particularly of interest to me is the feud between Adair and Andrew Jackson over the supposed cowardice of some poorly-armed Kentuckians at New Orleans. I think fleshing out that section of Adair's article might be enough to elevate it to FA.

Looks like you've already done a little looking into the Battle of Frenchtown (River Raisin), which was unquestionably of major importance to Kentucky for years to come.
