Regarding external links edit

  Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Ginsuloft (talk) 15:56, 5 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for adding spam links. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia and potentially penalized by search engines. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Alexf(talk) 16:03, 5 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

The block is for spamming, which is not the case here. Each external link added meets the requirements for external links. These are not promotional links of any kind. Each runs to a page of information on the article topic which is researched and maintained by the local history department of the local public library. They are informational in nature, contain no advertisements, and are freely accessible to any user. They make good external links, as additional information and historical documents are continuously added to the library pages. This way the new information is available to users of Wikipedia without the need to constantly edit the relevant Wikipedia pages. If I had added the links at the rate of one or two a day, we wouldn't be having this discussion. An example of one of the external links for which I have been blocked: http://www.bcpl.org/cbc/doku.php/rabbit_hash

Decline reason:

You still appear to have the primary purpose of adding external links to a website that you control or maintain. Please read WP:ADV. Singularity42 (talk) 02:48, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Comment: Even if these links weren't blatant advertising, this still raises the question: 1) why is your username "BCPLdigiserv"; 2) why did you immediately start adding links to a website contained in your username as your first edit? I hope you understand the concerns. In any case, your username is a violation of the username policy, as you aren't allowed to edit with usernames that imply you're editing on behalf of something other than yourself as an individual. Comment: I'm sorry to trouble you further, but I'm a bit confused. So, the entire problem is my username? If that is the case, can I change it? As to why I began adding the links, I realized while looking at some local information on Wikipedia that it would probably prove useful to users of the site to have a link to gain access to the historic information being posted by our local history department. I certainly didn't intend to cause any disruptions. If it would be helpful, here is one of the links I was blocked for adding: "Rabbit Hash," Chronicles of Boone County, Boone County Public Library (KY)
It's not just the username (there's also the conflict of interest), but if you wish to be unblocked, you must choose another username. You may request a username change along with your unblock request by using the template
{{unblock-un | user=new username | reason=your reason here}}

Comment:I've read the conflict of interest page you provided. As I interpret the policy, this situation does not present a conflict of interest as I'm not promoting anything. I'm only trying to provide access to additional neutral, factual information. I believe this is most analogous to the example given of a subject expert providing additional information on their topic of expertise. (In my case, my expertise is in available local resources.  :)

I've added the username change below. I hadn't understood that policy initially, and am quite happy to comply with it. (I've also changed my account email address accordingly.) Does that solve the problem or are additional changes needed? Thank you.

I have declined the first unblock request. You may want to hold off on this request until you have had a chance to properly respond to my reason for declining the unblock request. Singularity42 (talk) 02:48, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
