March 2017 WikiCup newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

  •   Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
  •   Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
  •   1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
  •   Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Green Light (Lorde song)

Extended content

It appears you have created Draft:Green Light (Lorde song), whereas I had previously expressed a concern on your talk page (about Drake's songs, as far as I recall; Fake Love being one), with you saying you would be more mindful of it in future, over your apparent unwillingness to overwrite a redirect someone else created, but to create it in draftspace then "claim" it for yourself. You know quite well Green Light (Lorde song) exists, and yet you're still doing it, obviously wanting my redirect to be overwritten with your content when the time comes. You expect others to create content over most of the redirects you create, so why do you avoid doing it yourself? I wouldn't think you'd be too happy if every user did this to an album or song page you had redirected, so I don't know why you do it to things you have an interest in that I created before you. Also, please don't tell me this is about "incubating" the article until it gets notable enough (and that that's why you didn't yet post it over the redirect), because when it does, you will absolutely request to overwrite the redirect. Trying to assume good faith here, Another Believer, but you have gone and done what you pretty much said you wouldn't again do. Ss112 00:59, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

@Ss112: I didn't go the draft route to "override" your redirect, but since you're concerned about getting credit for creating the redirect, I'll just copy the draft content to your redirect in main space. I don't care about the credit, I just assumed the article would be nominated for deletion so I was stalling. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:30, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
AB, I think you know how it works by now. An administrator will see the draft history then merge the two as they see fit, so you've basically ensured it will overwrite the redirect history because it is "more complex" and notable than someone's redirect. I also don't enjoy being criticised for apparently being concerned about "getting credit", especially when considering you redirect tonnes of pages and obviously want the "credit" for those, otherwise why create them? Sure, we can all say "I do it to be helpful and redirect readers to the album or artist page", but is that really all it is? I mean, I don't know how I'm taking credit anyway. I'm not using an off-Wiki counter to go "look at all these articles I started" (but didn't actually create the content for) or claim them for myself—I just don't see the point of overwriting redirects. Ss112 01:36, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I create redirects, stubs, and drafts all the time, Ss112. I'm sorry if you feel some of them conflict with your edits, but I'm not singling you out in any way or attempting to steal credit for being a page's original author. Yes, I do track pages I'm credited for starting, but that's because I'm interested in article assessment, editing trends, and tracking which articles have been promoted to quality status at English Wikipedia and Wikipedias of other languages. And no, I wouldn't be offended if someone's draft overrode one of my redirects. Creating a redirect is not something I take a ton of credit for creating. You said, "you will absolutely request to overwrite the redirect". That's actually something I do rarely, so I find that unfair to say. I'll think you'll find that I've improved, categorized, and added talk page banners to many pages you've created, and overrode few. I don't mean to offend you, and I will try to remain aware of your edits. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:39, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
I wrote the above comments before reading your reply, Ss112. I think we may have different reasons for creating redirects. I'm less concerned about credit, so again, I will try to watch your edits carefully and avoid overriding. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:44, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

4th GA Cup - The Final

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Final

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Sunday, February 26 saw the end of Round 3. Shearonink finished in first with 616 points, which is more than the point totals for all the other competitors combined! In second place, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an impressive 152 points, followed by Sturmvogel_66 in third with 111 points. Chris troutman and Kees08 each received a wild-card and were able to advance to the Final Round. There was a major error on the part of the judges, and initially, 8 users were advanced instead of 5. This has been corrected, and we sincerely apologize for this confusion.

In Round 3, 71 reviews were completed! At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 7 months; at the end of Round 3, the longest wait is still holding steady at a little over 6 months, the same as for the previous round. By the end of all three Rounds, the total number of nominations increased slightly - this suggests that users are more willing to nominate, knowing that their articles will be reviewed. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in the Final so we can keep tackling the backlog.

In the Final Round, the user with the highest score will be the winner. The Final has already started and will end on March 31st at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Finals and the pools can be found here.

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Nomination of I'm Born to Run for deletion

  Resolved

This is a courtesy message to notify you that the article I'm Born to Run is being considered for deletion. All editors, including you, are welcome to discuss this at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/I'm Born to Run until a consensus is reached. The nomination and discussion are expected to focus on the quality of evidence and the policies and guidelines which are of concern. Please be aware that there are a number of arguments to avoid in a deletion discussion.

Users are encouraged to edit the article during the discussion, particularly in ways that address the concerns raised in that discussion. However, please do not attempt to remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article— doing so may be considered an act of bad faith and will not halt the deletion process. Thank you! Onel5969 TT me 12:22, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

@Onel5969: There's not need for a deletion discussion. Just redirect the page to the album article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:47, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi Another Believer - I agree with you wholeheartedly, however, when other editors continue to revert the redirect, I feel there is a need to develop consensus for either the article to stay, become a redirect, or to be deleted totally (which I think would be wrong, but if that were the consensus). The redirect has been reverted about 4 times over the past 9 months, so I felt a community discussion was warranted. If the consensus is for a redirect, than at least it gives an editor an opportunity to ask for pp. Does that make sense? Onel5969 TT me 16:23, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
@Onel5969: I do see what you mean, but I'm not sure this discussion, which will likely result in a merge vote, will prevent editors from expanding the redirect again in the future. Perhaps I'll be proven wrong! Thanks for responding. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:30, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Okay, well if you want to interject feel free.  — Calvin999 17:55, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
There's literally about 4 reviews for the song, how do you think that stands with notability considering it's long Hot 100 chart trajectory and it being number-one on the Dance chart?  — Calvin999 18:03, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Surely there is other commentary that can be found in album reviews. Yes, I realize album reviews alone don't justify song notability, but that doesn't mean commentary can't be included in a "Critical reception" section. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:08, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

See also: Giraffe

  Resolved

Why did you add that "see also" section to all those articles on individual giraffes when we already have Category:Individual giraffes? DS (talk) 14:19, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

@DragonflySixtyseven: ... because I thought users might be interested in reading about a few other notable individual giraffes. If you don't agree, feel free to revert or edit. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:25, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

The Unipiper

I'd like to hear more about why you moved it away from 'the'. The usage of the stage name seems to mirror The Beatles or The Beach Boys, with the initial 'The' as part of the formal name. A quick perusal through the RS'es and his official website seems to support this, although it's certainly not unanimous. Jclemens (talk) 04:29, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

@Jclemens: Alright, I disagree, and I was bold in moving the page but feel free to revert if you feel strongly that "the" should be included in the title. I wouldn't think to search "The Unipiper" to learn more about his person. ---Another Believer (Talk) 07:46, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
Well, either way, with redirects it's not a big deal, just a stylistic matter over where the topic 'rests'. There's another editor who's been working on the article as well--I'll ping him to see what he thinks. Jclemens (talk) 08:59, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
@Jclemens: Sure, always great to bring more folks into the conversation. IMO, some sources do say "The Unipiper", but others are just "the Unipiper" or "Unipiper", so I don't see the "The" being used in the same way "The" always appears in "The Beatles", for example. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:26, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
Whoops, and then I got busy and forgot to follow up on this @Nicholasbeatty:, what do you think of this question? Jclemens (talk) 04:42, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Chris Has Got a Date, Date, Date, Date, Date

  Resolved

Hello, Another Believer,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Chris Has Got a Date, Date, Date, Date, Date should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Has Got a Date, Date, Date, Date, Date .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Eddie Blick (talk) 23:22, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

@Teblick: Thanks for the heads up. There is no reason to delete a page that is a possible search term, so redirecting is more appropriate if there is not enough coverage to justify a standalone article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:28, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

I don't understand your statement, "There is no reason to delete a page that is a possible search term." It seems to me that any name or expression is a possible search term. Therefore, applying the quoted sentence would mean that no page would ever be deleted. Perhaps you are correct about the advisability of a redirect, but I didn't see that option in the page curation tools. Eddie Blick (talk) 03:02, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
@Teblick: What I mean to say is that both redirects serve a purpose by redirecting readers to Family Guy (season 15). We don't delete redirects that serve a purpose. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:16, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
I appreciate the clarification. I'm still learning about the finer points of notability, so I appreciate your feedback. Eddie Blick (talk) 12:54, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

4th GA Cup - Wrap Up

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Wrap Up

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Saturday, April 1 concluded the 2016-2017 GA Cup. 64 reviews were completed by our finalists. Although the backlog increased by 42 over the reviewing period instead of declining, the increase suggests that the contest is encouraging editors to nominate articles for review.

Congratulations to Shearonink, who is the winner of the Cup, finishing with 672 points! Once again, just as in last round, this is more than the point totals for all the other competitors combined! It was a close race for second place between Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, who achieved 164 points, and Sturmvogel_66, who earned 150. Though Sturmvogel_66 reviewed one more article than Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga managed to earn 14 points more due to reviewing older articles. Our two wildcard competitors, Kees08 and Chris troutman, came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

There were some bumps in the competition this time: The sign-up deadline and the first round were both extended due to fewer competitors signing up then was planned for. And there were delays in tallying points and getting out the newsletter. The judges apologize for this latter difficulty. Lastly, mid-way through the competition we bid farewell to Zwerg Nase, who stepped down from their position as judge due to other commitments. Information about the Final can be found here.

Thank you to all of our competitors, and congrats to our winners!

Regarding Lust for Life (Lana Del Rey song)

  Resolved

You recognize that, even though the song's registration has been covered by media in speculation of Del Rey's next album, it's not notable and is a rumor? This, to me, brings up a bigger issue, because would we do the same and redirect the hundred or so unreleased songs she has, particularly those written in the Born to Die sessions? I just wanted to know your thought process in this situation, because it could be helpful to me. --Aleccat 13:46, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

@Aleccat: Yes, I understand. But I also recognize that people search for information on Wikipedia, and we should be able to redirect them to the closest notable topic. If there are a hundred unreleased, but confirmed, songs associated with Born to Die, perhaps there should be a list of unreleased songs recorded by Lana Del Rey. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:02, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Marking this section as resolved -- the song has already premiered so the redirect is entirely appropriate. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:02, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Sorry about what has happened with the invites. I've managed to keep the invites at a couple of projects. It's mainly Davey2010 who has removed them even after being asked to stop at his talkpage. AusLondonder (talk) 01:21, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

No problem at all :) AusLondonder (talk) 01:34, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Good work on all the cannabis related articles. You seem as obssesed with this as I have been with women's ice hockey. Lol, we all need a hobby or two. I added to your Emerald Empire Hempfest article, felt it was short on details. I'll need to browse to see if you've included anything about my home state, Massachusetts. Thanks for the work. Bill McKenna (talk) 03:14, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

@Bill McKenna: Thanks for contributing to the EEH article. Yeah, a few editors are working hard on cannabis-related content as part of the ongoing (and first) 420 Collaboration. I don't often edit cannabis content, but see many missing and incomplete articles, so wanted to encourage folks to collaborate. Most of what I'm contributing are just stubs, but I want to get the ball rolling on new articles and I hope to nominate a couple articles for Good status, too. Thanks for all you do for Wikipedia as well! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:31, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Have a beer, since you probably just got a few hundred reversion notices. Some people just have little better to do, I guess. Anyway, your message still reached me at a few WikiProjects, and the Quixotic campaign to remove those notices has done nothing but encourage me to help improve a couple articles next week. Thanks for reaching out, and take care - Antepenultimate (talk) 01:25, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@Antepenultimate: Hey, thanks a lot! It's about time for a beer IRL, too. Took a few minutes, but I got through the revision notifications. I was a bit disappointed at first, but I've also seen a lot of support so I'm feeling more encouraged and now just stepping back and letting this run its course. Perhaps the drama will recruit a few more folks to help the campaign, like you suggested! Thanks again. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:27, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

New category hierarchy?

What do you think? Bri (talk) 20:11, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

@Bri: Hmm. "Cannabis people" sounds a bit strange to me. That's like saying, "Alcohol people", no? I think we should probably continue categorize people by occupation and then maybe also adding them to cannabis culture-related categories as appropriate. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:05, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Returning to this now that we have Category:Women in cannabis. Parent cat People in cannabis? - Bri (talk) 05:25, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Post at Village Pump?

I've posted at the Village Pump for 15 languages, but as Walter pointed out it appears we haven't done so for our own English Village Pump. Do you want to post on that? I'm going out running errands downtown (text me if you're around to meet up for coffee or beer), but I can post it this evening if you'd rather I did it. Overall got good reactions from the other-language Village Pumps, got some comments at fr, nl, and pt, thanks at ca, removed for spam on it (but I reverted with a rebuttal and it-specific requests) and reverted at ar but might rebut later. Nothing personal, really!

Extended content

Dear Believer, you might have gotten the impression that I either have a grudge against you or against the subjects you are editing: it's absolutely not the case. I do believe that your expansion of the climate march article is making it worse, not better: it now reads like a giant advertisement, thus reinforcing the WP:PROMO rationale that was levied against it at the first AfD. I just picked a sentence at random:

The demonstration in Florence, Alabama is being sponsored by the the Shoals Environmental Alliance and Indivisible Northwest Alabama, and will take place outside the Lauderdale County Courthouse. The rally will feature guess speakers and music by Mitch Mann and the Mojo Mixers, and is reportedly the only climate march being organized in the U.S. states of Alabama, Georgia, or Mississippi.

So we just list the meeting place, the entertainers, and the sponsors. Frankly, do you think this is encyclopedic? I'm sad to see us getting into a fight over this, because I've seen your enthusiasm put to better use for other articles. Obviously I won't change your mind any more than you'll change mine, but I just wanted to reach out personally. Happy editing! — JFG talk 00:23, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

@JFG: Thanks for stopping by (truly). No, I wasn't under the impression you had a grudge against me. I did question if you held more conservative political views, but I did not feel the need to scrutinize your editing history to see if bias or prejudice were at play. I just think we have different ideas of what content belongs at Wikipedia, and that's fine. Sometimes I wish I had more time to develop content, but I certainly respect the guidelines we've established as a community and I'm almost never personally offended by other editors.
I'm sorry you feel the article reads like an advertisement. The example text you provided is very similar to the content at Not My Presidents Day, which User:Megalibrarygirl and I promoted to Good article status together. If you read the article, you'll see a neutral overview of the many activities associated with the protest, including event locations, sponsors, organizers, venues, guest speakers, planning and promotion, attendance figures, etc. I don't see anything wrong with describing planned events scheduled to take place next weekend, then changing the tense of content or adding/removing the details as needed following April 29.
The Not My Presidents Day article underwent a lot of scrutiny, and I felt like I had to clear many bureaucratic, unnecessary hurdles just to justify the existence of a topic that, IMO, was clearly notable. In the end, Wikipedia added a new Good article to its collection of quality encyclopedia articles, but I felt like I was combating resistance the entire way, and I don't think that's what editing Wikipedia should be like. Thanks again for reaching out. We're not fighting, we're just disagreeing, and that's quite alright. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:49, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Appreciate your response, and agree to disagree, although there are certainly plenty of places we do agree.  JFG talk 08:35, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

¡Drama on es.wiki!

(@Bri: too) No action required from you, but thought you might find this amusing. A zealous character on Es.wp has filed an ANI complaint alleging that I'm a connected-contributor somehow tied to the cannabis industry, and as evidence submits a bunch of mirrored WP content on sites that are full of "V!@Gr@ $10/g". This is going to get amusing; link is here They post in really idiomatic/regional Spanish that I have trouble reading, so I'm replying in the weirdest mix of Spanish/Galician/French/Catalan phrasing I can, and using lots of English idioms that I'm linking to Wiktionary. This is a delightful diversion from packing the house for the move. - Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney

@Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney: Oh, geez... ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:27, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
You ain't done nothin' if you ain't been called a Red... I've offered a rebuttal in my wonky Spanish, and pinged the admin who previously reverted that editor's interference with me. This is amusing. Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 00:11, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

@80atUO: Hey! I did not attend UO, but I've attended/co-organized a couple Wikipedia editathons/workshops there. In addition to the link provided Jonesey95, I'd recommend browsing the pages in Category:Wikipedia meetups in Eugene, Oregon. I'd love to see more events organized in Eugene, and wish you luck! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:40, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I have been in contact with one wikipedian, but do you know of any others in Eugene? Thanks! 80atUO (talk) 21:00, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
@80atUO: I only know a couple, so you're best bet will be to post user talk page messages and a note at WikiProject Oregon. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:01, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
ok I'll continue doing that then! Thanks! 80atUO (talk) 21:05, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

@Another Believer: Hi again! We will be hosting an edit-a-thon at UO in the Knight Library, and we would love you to come if you are interested. I also need some advice on how to host one as well as how to advertise/ send mass messages. Thanks! 80atUO (talk) 18:44, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

@80atUO: Have you established a set date and time for the meetup? If so, you might consider creating a meetup page (see examples of meetup pages for past events in Eugene here: Wikipedia:Meetup/Eugene). I don't remember how I was granted mass message sending rights, but you might be able to find more information here: Wikipedia:Mass message senders. Keep in mind, I send messages to a Portland-centric list, not a Eugene-centric list, so your best bet may be to just post about the meetup at WikiProject Oregon. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:07, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter

The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  •   Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
  •   1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
  •   Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
  • Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.

Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.

So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Proposed deletion of 2017 May Day protests

  Resolved

The article 2017 May Day protests has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NOTNEWS. There are protests on May Day every year, and they often turn violent.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:51, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Of course the article should be kept, but I have a feeling this is about to go to AfD unnecessarily... ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:56, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Head III listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Head III. Since you had some involvement with the Head III redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. I have also nominated Head IV and Head V under one nomination. ~ GB fan 12:12, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

STOP THIS. You are vaporizing both active editors view of work done and to be done, and fooling readers with misleading and pointless blue links. I urge you to ask a thoughtful admin to revert all of this nonsense. By the way the abysmal edit history here is for shame. Ceoil (talk) 17:26, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
Huh? I'm not doing anything wrong by creating stub from redirects that have been nominated for deletion. I'm trying to improve Wikipedia, and others are welcome to help expand these stubs. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:29, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Extended content

Your recent editing history at Template:Francis Bacon (artist) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Adam9007 (talk) 18:26, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

@Adam9007: Thanks for the warning. I've tried discussing this on the template's talk page, and I've stopped reverting. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:27, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
I was recently blocked for edit warring for over-zealously trying to enforce certain policies, so be careful. Adam9007 (talk) 18:28, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
@Adam9007: Good advice, thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:29, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Stop creating redirects

You really need to stop creating redirects. I see you have now created redirects to Katy Perry. Ones like Swish Swish are useless. It redirects to Katy Perry but the article does not talk about it. This is no different than all the ones you made to Francis Bacon (artist). They are not helpful and potentially harmful. ~ GB fan 17:59, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

You make it sound as though the Bacon redirects were completely inappropriate. Really, they just needed to direct readers to List of paintings by Francis Bacon, where the paintings are mentioned. My bad, not a big deal. I created the Katy Perry redirects per Draft:Katy Perry's fifth studio album, but pages should not redirect to the draft space, so maybe redirecting to (and updating) List of songs recorded by Katy Perry would be better. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:06, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Redirecting the Francis Bacon paintings to List of paintings by Francis Bacon doesn't help. They are mentioned there but not discussed. It would be better for them to be a red link until someone wants to start a proper article on them. ~ GB fan 18:10, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
List of songs recorded by Katy Perry doesn't mention Swish Swish. ~ GB fan 18:12, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Let's agree to disagree. You do what you feel you need to do. I'm confident the Bacon redirects would be kept if nominated for deletion, and my life goes on just fine if they are deleted. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:12, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Head IV

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Head IV. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – List_of_paintings_by_Francis_Bacon. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List_of_paintings_by_Francis_Bacon. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Hi. Can you please deal with this? I don't have the patience for it. I think we should stick with The Guardian; nobody could accuse them of pro-Spencer bias!Zigzig20s (talk) 03:12, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind

  Resolved

Out of curiosity, what was your reasoning for redirecting it? It seemed notable, from my Google results, but I want to know your reasoning, if you could elaborate please. --Aleccat 01:31, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

@Aleccat: Sure, I redirected because the article was little more than an infobox and the song is not appearing on her upcoming album. I suppose I thought a non-album single made it less deserving of a standalone article until it has charted. I don't feel too strongly about the merge, so feel free to revert if you feel strongly, but I also recommend moving the content to Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind, which complies with Wikipedia's manual of style. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:22, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your help. --Aleccat 03:02, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Bon Appétit (song)

On 19 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bon Appétit (song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Katy Perry first teased the release of her song "Bon Appétit" with a cherry pie recipe? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bon Appétit (song). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Bon Appétit (song)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

WP:NOTBROKEN

Greetings AB! Regarding your revert at 2017 dismissal of U.S. attorneys, I have two remarks:

  1. Please read the WP:NOTBROKEN guideline, which is also aptly called WP:DONTFIXIT. Being able to link Joe Q. Bloggs instead of Joe Q. Bloggs is a key feature of redirects; such entries should generally be left alone.
  2. By restoring an edit that I had reverted, you have technically violated the (arguably cumbersome) DS restrictions on those "current politics" articles, which say you must not reinstate any challenged (via reversion) edits without obtaining consensus on the talk page of this article. It's not a big deal for what is essentially a matter of taste here, however you should be extra careful when editing this minefield: well-meaning editors have been blocked for single offenses… (Rest assured I'm not reporting this incident.) — JFG talk 23:20, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
@JFG: Ok, thanks for the reminders, and I don't feel strongly so feel free to undo my edit. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:26, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
No: I would be violating 1RR if I did   You can either self-revert (that's exempt) or let it go until someone else acts. — JFG talk 23:39, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Wikitribune

On 21 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Wikitribune, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Jimmy Wales wants WikiTRIBUNE to counter fake news? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Wikitribune. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Wikitribune), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Proposed deletion of Sunnyside United Methodist Church

  Resolved

The article Sunnyside United Methodist Church has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG: BEFORE did not produce significant coverage in multiple demonstrably independent and reliable sources.

Speedy deletion nomination of National Cannabis Summit

  Resolved

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on National Cannabis Summit requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Well done!

Hi Jason; I just wanted to say well done on getting Hands Across Hawthorne to FA status. I was unaware of the event until the article made the front page of Wikipedia today. If you are interested more broadly in U.S. LGBT themed articles, I have nominated Death of Leelah Alcorn for FAC; any comments would be appreciated, although no pressure if you are too busy or just not that interested! Again, great work with Hands Across Hawthorne. Best, Midnightblueowl (talk) 13:06, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

@Midnightblueowl: Thank you very much! I will be working on the Wikipedia:Wiki Loves Pride 2017 campaign throughout the month of June, if you have any interest in contributing. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:04, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
