Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, AnnvilleOutlier. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Jon Rudnitsky, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Bbb23 (talk) 13:34, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • I don't think you understand the implications of the above notice. You must follow the instructions in the notice, which includes declaring your COI on your userpage and not editing the Rudnitsky article (or any article related to Rudnitsky) directly, but instead proposing any changes on the article Talk page and again declaring your COI. I am going to revert your latest change to the article. Do not edit the article again without first responding to this message.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:47, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Bbb23

Thanks for your insight, Bbb23. I just signed up as an editor because I saw what I consider to be errors of omission in the Jon Rudnitsky entry, someone whose career I have followed since he was in high school. During these first hours as an editor, I have learned more about the rules of the road and will be mindful of your warning in the future. I posted a note on Rudnitsky's Talk page suggesting that someone else might want to add the missing information, since I have been disqualified from doing so, Hope that's a legitimate procedure. If not, I'll delete it. AnnvilleOutlier (talk) 15:05, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much for your understanding and cooperation. What you've done on the Talk page is good. I've responded there. Just so you know, I won't necessarily be responding to your proposals on the Rudnitsky Talk page in the future; as an administrator here, it's not something I normally do. If you have trouble getting someone to respond (it's not an article that is "watched" by very many editors), you can try getting help from the WP:Teahouse, which is specifically for new editors like yourself.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:38, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
