Peer Review

edit

Hey Allie! I got a chance to peer review your article and really enjoyed reading it! I really loved how you added multiple pictures in your article. Some things you might want to look into is changing your structure a little bit for your first section. (maybe do some bullet points or make another subfield under it) You have a lot of good information but it could be split up as well to make the structure more clear. Also try to add a couple sentences with a sociological view point in it. Overall, great work and can't wait to see it finalized! Ellieb281 (talk) 05:37, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Ellieb281Reply

Hi Allie - you've done some offline thinking that needs to be incorporated extensively into your user page so others can give you feedback. Please include links to potential articles and expand your writing so others can provide productive feedback. Good luck! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 22:59, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey Allie! Okay so I think it is important to even just have pages that talk about rape and its prevalence in the surrounding areas. Also talking about if there are forms of education to fight against rape in these areas.

So you could use some of these pages:

Great Topic!

edit

Allie, I actually did a project on sex trafficking and human trafficking for my human rights class last semester and it is a fascinating (if depressing) topic. It might be interesting to look at different policies and the policy outcomes in different countries. What policies do or do not exist in countries? What are their outcomes? Also, the barriers to good statistics must be addressed as well - what is reporting like? How accurate is it? There is a strong likelihood that it is under-reported. I know you said you are interested in Georgia - it might be worthwhile to look at statistics and policies in the United States first because sex trafficking happens here too, particularly in the form of prostitution - many human trafficking scholars believe that thrst step in stopping sex trafficking is to make prostitution illegal. It could give you a baseline. (A little ethnocentric, perhaps, but I think it is always good to know what is going on in our own backyards before looking into other countries). There have been lots of books published on human/sex trafficking, although maybe not as much explicitly dealing with youth. There are also a multitude of non-profits that work to mitigate sex trafficking, so you could add a piece on that in the child exploitation system if you are interested in solutions. I would also suggest maybe starting with the United Nations too - they have created quite a few charters and treaties about trafficking and human rights (I can get you more information about that if you are curious). There are so many places to take this project, and I think that the Sexual exploitation of children article could potentially be really improved (seems very U.S. centric right now). Good luck! Let me know if you need feedback or insight - this is a topic I am really passionate about! court Court caitlin (talk) 03:38, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome

Hi Allie. Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm an online ambassador for your Global Youth Studies course at Drake. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, chat with us on IRC, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. I look forward to seeing what topics you are interested in.

If you are interested in focusing solely on Georgia, you may want to check out human trafficking in Georgia (country). The entire article is based off of the 2010 Trafficking in Persons report. It looks like the commercial sexual exploitation of children article has a lot of material on the US and could benefit from a more global perspective (especially discussion of Tier 1 countries). Please also check out the prostitution of children and trafficking of children. These articles go into more detail, seem to be more balanced, and may give you some ideas. Allie-

I think you have a great proposal for your page! It sounds like the redirection that you are heading in will still bring increased awareness to trafficking. You mentioned it has the bare bones of data from 2011. Do you plan on completely updating the results to the current day? I think it would be interesting if you included both the 2011 and 2013 data (assuming there is new data available) to do a comparison between the two. It would give the audience a good idea of how it has changed (hopefully for the better) within recent years. Scarlson0921 (talk) 16:55, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

March 6 Proposal Feedback

Hi, AllieQuinn7. I'm glad you found your article to edit. Please make sure that you can find additional sources on Human trafficking in Georgia (country). Could you please edit your user page proposal so it focuses on what you will work on more than the process of how you got to your topic? This will make it clearer for visitors to your user page to understand what you're working on. A good start here! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 05:25, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi AllieQuinn7 - you did a great job with those sources! Not only did you have some nice peer reviewed pieces, but also the solid sources you will need to find for statistics and the basic facts required for any encyclopedia article. Very nice. You're ready to start making an outline of your new article and importing the article to your sandbox.

Check out the articles noted by user:Gobonobo for ideas on how to structure a balanced, quality article.
I'm not sure the Storrow source on "phantom children" works - how does it fit in your project?

Good job!Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 05:06, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Allie. Your sandbox is looking good. I added bullet points to the sources in the reference section, but it would be helpful if you can convert the references to inline citations with numbered footnotes, so that specific assertions are linked to their sources. Let me know if you need any help. Gobōnobō + c 16:18, 26 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
