double check edit

Hi RIP,

I have noticed you double checking the AFC archives. What are you doing? And do you need any help? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:48, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

In the very early days there were no standard templates, so there are some declined or accepted by comment only, without a ribbon, so you have to read the comment to see what it was. I suppose this could be edited to todays standard, but no need to, in my opinion. The worst ones are where the box includes the heading, then the macro's dont work on the preceeding article! I may have a look tomorrow at some old ones. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:36, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Spam in Cayman Islands Investment Bureau edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Cayman Islands Investment Bureau, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Cayman Islands Investment Bureau is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Cayman Islands Investment Bureau, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 18:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Neomis Animation edit

A tag has been placed on Neomis Animation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Mhsb (talk) 13:20, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

E. R.G. Eckert edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article E. R.G. Eckert, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of E. R.G. Eckert. Articles for creation edit

I noticed that you rejected somebody's proposed article on Smith v. Kansas city Title & Trust Co., 255 U.S. 180 (1921) because "The proposed article is not suitable for Wikipedia." I suggest replacing this with something more specific, such as "The proposed article appears to be copied and pasted from another source. Please rewrite the article in your own words, citing the original source as necessary." (As an aside, I am not absolutely certain whether the source is copyrighted or not: U.S. government works generally are not copyrighted, but it is possible that the submitter obtained the text from a non-U.S. government source, or that it may contain embedded copyrighted content.) 69.140.152.55 (talk) 04:23, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Weasel words? edit

You removed the words "much larger" from the reference to the Citizendium article on Onslow Beach, calling them weasel words. They don't seem to fit the definition of weasel words at all -- "implying something which is difficult to substantiate." The WP article is a 50-word stub. The Citizendium article is 600+ words, with photos, a gallery, and eight references. What's wrong with calling it "much larger?" Lou Sander (talk) 14:07, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Manuel Octavio Gómez edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Manuel Octavio Gómez, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0351182. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 02:58, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kohs quote edit

Re this edit I suggest you find better criticism than Gregory Kohs; if you are unaware, this guy has a serious vendetta against WP and pops up on any blog posting anywhere to slam the site. Including criticism is one thing; including the deluded rantings of an idiot is something else. For my part, I thought it was supposed to be a joke -- in an "anything that Kohs slams must be good!" kind of way. Regards, howcheng {chat} 20:59, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yup I know about Kohs and his habit of searching the net for any mention of the word Wikipedia so he can criticize it. But you see, he was the only one so far that came right out against the project (granted he probably couldn’t care less about it) and did so with a statement that any person with a minimum of common sense will find hilarious, and that makes it all the best to include at the top of the page. In a way we’re making fun of him, lightening up our readers and showing criticism, IMO it’s the perfect choice. PS: if you're worried that we're giving him a spotlight and feeding his obsession and don't think that’s the case since he'll continue to criticize regardless until his wikibizz is allowed again (which I hope doesn’t happen) Acer (talk) 21:10, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
So yea you're right it was supposed to be a joke too Acer (talk) 21:17, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cyg-x1 edit

Hi there, I've been following your work on Cygnus-x1 since I did the GA review and I'm most impressed. Anyway, I was going truh the article again today and I noticed that the costallation map was missing cyg-x1 itself, so I made a guesstimate version based on these two images: [2] and [3], obviously its a crude estimate since I didn't take the scales into consideration, but it atleast gives a general idea. Anyhow I leave it up to you to use it or not. Its located here - Acer (talk) 22:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Eta and Cyg X-1 are separated by 26 arcminutes, so they're real close together on a map of that scale. As you can see by the image, Cyg X-1 is a little difficult to see when the map is scaled down.—RJH (talk) 22:38, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I figured I had spaced them more than they actually are but I decided to go with it anyway for clarity, as for the size, I was kind of hoping people would click on the image :P, are you suggesting I make the caption bigger or just scrap the idea alltoguether? I'm happy eitherway. Acer (talk) 22:45, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
For that to work, it may require a blown-up sub-image, such as on the IK Pegasi page. You could probably just overlay the Lyra part of the image. Also you might consider shrinking down the resulting image a little so it is easier to download.—RJH (talk) 22:58, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Acer.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support. -- Avi (talk) 18:58, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I haven't found the English equivalent in books or been able to translate it myself with my woefully abridged Portuguese dictionary. Babel Fish gives me "That One I Hug", but usually humans are better at this sort of thing. (: --Kakofonous (talk) 00:17, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Are you still around? You haven't edited it a while, so I thought I'd check. :) --Kakofonous (talk) 13:49, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Granat edit

Hi, I changed "NaCl" to "NaI" for the Granat KONUS B detectors, as NaI(Tl) is the standard material (see gamma ray spectroscopy) and I am almost sure that must be what was intended. Since I do not know absolutely for certain, you might want to check your sources in case I am wrong. Cheers, Wwheaton (talk) 20:47, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just checked your source, and I see the error is in the GSFC web page as well. This sort of thing can happen when semi-technical staff people maintain web pages over a broad range of subject matter. I have worked in gamma-ray astronomical spectroscopy for many years, and I have never heard of NaCl being used as a scintillator. The high Z of the iodine is critical to stop gamma rays. I probably won't have time to track it further, but I am 99% certain it is incorrect. Neil Gehrels at GSFC might be able to get it verified and fixed, or you might be able to find out from the French. Phillipe Durouchoux at Saclay might be the one to ask. Wwheaton (talk) 20:59, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
And I just found the HEASARC web manager, and e-mailed them a heads-up about it, so hopefully it will get fixed on their page eventually. Wwheaton (talk) 21:08, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I got an automated response from the guy at GSFC, he is on vacation. Presumably it will get fixed in due course. Really I think this is a great collaboration—I'm struggling to work and keep my job, don't really have time to put in the sort of effort you wonderful Wiki people do, but with a few minutes work I could fix up the problems I saw. I am thinking I will solicit some of my old friends and colleagues to keep watch too.
Cheers, Bill Wwheaton (talk) 22:47, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Got an email from GSFC:

Dear Bill,

Thank you for pointing this out. This was probably a typo or transcription error as our other page on GRANAT mentions the NaI(Tl) crystal.

I've fixed the page, and if you have any information to add, we would be happy to incorporate that into the description.

Regards, Mike Arida for the HEASARC

and I also sent them a heads-up about the 5 billion ("billions and billions"...) problem. Wwheaton (talk) 03:52, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, I got another e-mail from Mike Arida at GSFC, and learned that there are TWO sets of pages at GSFC, one for outreach (ie, to public) & one for scientists:

Hello Bill,

I never would have found that as it is on our outreach pages, and not on our main science pages. I've fixed it though it seems to be just a typo as the "official" page is at

http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/granat/granat.html

Thanks again for the help. Best regards, Mike

Anyhow, I thought you might like to be aware there are two for your future Wiki work:

http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/sats_n_data/missions/granat.html

and

http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/granat/granat.html

HEASARC is the official science archiving place for High Energy Astronomy missions, and they should have the most reliable information, I hope.

Proposed deletion of Harvey Kennedy edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Harvey Kennedy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Henri Caesar edit

There appears to be no evidence that Henri Caesar actually existed (sadly enough; it's a great life story.) Unless you have access to RS saying otherwise, I suggest a major overhaul of the page. --Vincent pearse (talk) 16:48, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

A-class review request edit

Hey Acer, I was wondering if you could review the Spokane, Washington article in an ACR. After you read the article, I believe all you need to do is apply the A-Class criteria to the article and put whether you believe it is worthy of being A-class in the section dealing with the review in the articles Talk page. Also, in addition to doing the assessment, it would be helpful if you could include some points for improvement. If you are up to review it, notify me on my Talk. Thanks! Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Acer! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:06, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Pizza My Heart (restaurant) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Pizza My Heart (restaurant) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Noformation Talk 23:44, 29 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
