What is the steward elections about?

Hi there! The steward elections are located at m:Stewards/elections_2009. From the information at the top of the page:

New stewards are elected about once per year (you can also comment on current stewards). Stewards perform technical tasks on all Wikimedia wikis based on community consensus: modifying user access, viewing user information in cases of abuse, and so on (see details). If you are interested in becoming a steward, see the application guidelines.

Hiya. I think I need to echo what Terrillja has said. It would be a good idea for you to gain more knowledge about how Wikipedia works before adding yourself to that list. Many new users use that list to find people who can answer just about anything. Note that while you can list what areas you have specific knowledge in, my understanding is that those notes are for where you have extra knowledge, and it's generally assumed that you have a reasonable knowledgebase in all areas. I suggest you start hanging out in the IRC #wikipedia-en-help channel. Don't answer questions (yet), but pay attention to the questions that are asked and how they are answered, both in the channel and people using the {{helpme}} tag. Well, you can't modify Qui to show it (directly), you'd have to know JavaScript, copy the code to your userspace and work out what needed to be done, it wouldn't be basic. Other than that, you can always update User:Accdude92/Status and put something like 'school', but then if you wanted your edit notice (the 'I am currently online' thing) to show 'at school' or something, you'd have to know template syntax and modify it accordingly. — neuro^(talk) 16:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought I did. I was at school, and my userpage is protected mostly because of vandalism which took place on it for a long time, and if you look at the source, you will see it is garbled so that vandals cannot see where the page actually is without doing some homework. :) — neuro^(talk) 17:52, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

• Hi there, I hope you don't mind me lending my 2¢ to the above. If you do there's always this option... I created a modified version of Qui for myself at User:Stepshep/qui.js. That might be a good starter template for you to use. For instance if you only wanted to add "at school" then this oldid would be exactly what you need. It should be noted, though, that using unstandard params makes it so that your QuiWatchers will see your status as Unknown. {{UserStatus}} is a template that supports extended status options for everyone else to see (not sure if you use that one currently in your edit message or another one). If you have any questions {{tb}} me and I'll try to help as best I can. As a side note: I've never figured out what to do to get a custom system message, mind if I ask what the correct avenue is? In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Wondering If I Could Get Your Opinion

Hey, I recently had a dispute with a user, and I have no idea why it was as disputed as it was, i'd like an outside opinion so I can improve on dealing with these situations in the future. I thought he was very condescending and oblivious to the question I was asking him, but was that warranted due to my behavior or am I construing it wrong? It's the 9th one down on my talk page. Userpages

I don't do a lot of fancy stuff with my userpage. Most of it is in plain wiki-text, but I did use some tables (see Help:Tables) to do that little awards thing, and I used collapse bars (see Template:Hidden begin and Template:Hidden end) for the "work at Wikipedia" section. Otherwise, I used the same markup that people use for articles. If you want a really fancy looking userpage, you may want to try the Wikipedia:User Page Design Center. Another option is to find user pages you like, and just steal bits of code and stuff that you think looks good. You should also give a read to WP:USERPAGE for more info on what is, and is not allowed, on userpages. I hope this gets you started.
