Seriously?

This redirection elimination is "unconstructive"? Pointless and trivial, perhaps, but not warranting reversion. And the edit comment was explicit about the minor change being done. 67.101.7.214 (talk) 17:52, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Two things, first of all, please remember to Assume Good Faith. Everybody makes mistakes! I do apologise though, this was an accident, I will undo and remove the warning. Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 17:55, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
I try to WP:AGF but it was a reversion accompanied by a talk page warning, one of The Scarlet Letters (so to speak). WP:Huggle automates and expands the impact of those patrolling for vandalism, and while you all do wikipedia a service, it's an occasional thorn in the side of those few of us choosing to not log in... 67.101.7.214 (talk) 18:14, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Galleons

How can you say that glleon's would not help a countries economy. Galleons where used for (if not thousands) then hundreds of years. galleons are better than modern day cargo or naval ships. (scientifically proven) and a canon on a galleon would go about 1 mile (and maybe even more) a canon goes about 900ft per secound. you can not deny the truth from the public. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.169.142.7 (talk) 18:20, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

"Copyrighted computer software screenshot."

It's exactly the same picture but a command-control-three screencap. Notice how the site's picture is in .jpg format but mine is in .png but also renamed so that I can find it. The site it's taken from is a nonprofit, educational organization anyways. I'm merely replacing pictures with links Thanks for your concern. BoredSoContributing (talk) 18:24, 29 August 2010 (UTC)BoredSoContributing

Unfortunately, it seems you have misinterpreted the license. The {{Non-free web screenshot}} tag is only for actual screenshots of webpages (like this for example) and not for screenshots of media found on websites. I've looked at the pictures that you have uploaded from [1], and unfortunately there is no assertion on the file page that it has been released under a free license. Furthermore, on the main page, it displays a copyright notice at the bottom. Per the reasons I have given, I am going to have to tag the images for deletion. However, you could try and seek permission from the copyright holder. See this page for more info. Apologies,Acather96 (talk) 18:42, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Shoot! I missed that. Well, that's a terrible waste of time. Thanks for the notice. I'm going to have to replace pictures with links. I'm going to remove the copyright mark from some of them, though. Some of the sites that the pictures were from had no copyright. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BoredSoContributing (talkcontribs) 19:51, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The lack of a copyright notice doesn't mean that the images aren't copyrighted. They're automatically copyrighted whenever they're published. I should also point out that using a whole lot of non-free images, regardless of source in a list article is generally not allowed under the non-free content guideline. At present I can still see a violation of some sorts, so the article has been blanked for evaluation and closure through WP:CP. Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 14:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

"At present I can still see a violation of some sorts, so the article has been blanked for evaluation and closure through WP:CP. Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 14:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)"

Of course at present you can see a violation of some sorts blah blah blah,,,, As in my experience, once you guys get your mind set on the CR issue, you just wont let go no matter what an editor acting in good faith does,,, so go ahead....be my guest, have your way. I have more important things for my time than wasting it with you. Ah, and one more thing, don't bother writing back on my page,,,it will be deleted without even reading it in a flash.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercy11 (talkcontribs)

So much for assuming good faith. If there is a dispute, why not discuss it politely rather than come out with all guns blazing? Meanwhile, I will be watching this situation. Rodhullandemu 00:19, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

How very rude. I was looking through listings at SCV, and when I compared your article with the source CorenSearchBot had identified, there was a match (not blatant, but still a match & paraphrase problem). I then, in accordance with policy, 'blanked for evaluation and closure through WP:CP'. I didn't have any special agenda, I saw a possible copyright violation, and marked it for investigation. I then left a note (which you have subsequently deleted, I don't know why), as I thought you were an established editor I done this instead of templating (WP:DTTR). Wikipedia does take copyright violations very seriously, so maybe this is why you think what you do about us 'guys'. I echo Rodhullandemu comments, and strongly recommend you read and adhere to WP:CIVIL before participating in discussions. And lastly, whats the point of posting a comment if you wont read the response? Regards,Acather96 (talk) 15:04, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Polite discussions do nothing when dealing with the CR guillotine-wielders: everything is attributed to the almighty C/R, leaving no room for those of us with an honest desire to become compliant. Of course my preference would had been to work with you guys -- nothing more satisfying than a win-win -- but I am convinced without the equivalent of a sort of "contract with America" any dealings with the CR-violations group is an exercise in futility. The group is osfuscated with the "WP takes CR violations very seriously" motto, while ignoring honest attempts from editors like me to remove the violation. I still propose we leave it at that, and we both go our own separate ways. Mercy11 (talk) 16:03, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Stulladium

Hi Acather96,

I am looking for some help getting a recently trade marked, patent pending alloy on the Wiki works. It is not long are what I would consider difficult. below is my information. Can you help? Thanks! John Butler--Superalloydude 03:12, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Stulladium

Stulladium is a trademarked, patent pending, alloy offered by Stuller, Inc of South Louisiana ( stuller.com ). It has over 75% precious metal and would nicely fit the niche area of pricing between sterling silver and 10K gold. It is considered a European friendly alloy having no Nickel.
Invented by John Butler (john_butler@stuller.com) of Research & Development at Stuller, who had the idea to bring something to market between 10 karat and Sterling in price, while maintaining all the character and nostalgia of higher end jewelry alloys.
The alloy has grade 1 white color,
Its mechanical properties closely resemble those of typical golds and it can be worked at the bench like any typical 14kt gold. Stones can be set effortlessly including bezel setting and micro-pave work. It can be finished easily and polishes to a high luster.
The alloy can be for used both casting and rolling. Another nice character is reversible hardness.
Physical Properties:
     Color - Grade 1 white
     Density - 10.4 g/cc
     Melt Range (°F): 1640 – 1660
Mechanical Properties:
     Annealed Hardness (HV) – 150
     Age Hardened (HV) - 245
Ultimate Tensile Strength (psi) – 68,890
     Yield Strength (psi) – 26,200
     Elongation (%) - 29
Annealing:
1400°F for 20 minutes followed by immediate quench in water.
Age Hardening:
Solution anneal - 1400°F for 40 minutes followed by immediate water quench.
Age harden - 700°F for 30 minutes, no special cooling requirements
Cold working considerations:
Stulladium can be worked much like typical 14kt nickel white alloys.
Solution anneal ascast ingots prior to cold working.
Maximum recommended total reduction during cold working is 60%.

Investment Casting Recommendations:

Similar to that of karat gold alloy.
Mold Material:
      Typical calcium sulfate bonded investment.

Approximate Flask Temperatures (Range/Guideline)

      Filigree: 1150 – 1200 F
      Light: 1050 – 1150 F
      Medium: 900 – 1000 F
      Heavy: 750 – 850 F
Approximate Melt Temperatures:
We usually recommend a superheat of 100°F to 150°F above the melting point of the alloy. Therefore the set temperature point in your casting machine should be:
      Filigree: 1850 F
      Light: 1800 F
      Medium: 1775 F
      Heavy: 1750 F
Inert Gas Protective Cover:
When melting in casting equipment we recommend an inert gas, such as argon, be used as a protective cover.
Recommended Quenching of Cast Mold:
Quench in water just after the red glow has left the button.
Reuse/Replenishing:
For reuse a 60% fresh to 40% scrap ratio is recommended. Cleaned scrap should be re-grained for reuse. Buttons and rods should be free of investment and other contaminants.
Graining Instructions:
When melting during the graining operation we recommend that you use a thick protective cover of boric acid over the melt surface if your casting equipment allows it.

Hi Tanavanjohn and welcome to Wikipedia :). Two pointers for you to consider :
  • WP:COI You shouldn't write about things that you are closely affiliated with.
  • WP:GNG When you write about something, you have to make sure that it is notable, and you can do that by using reliable sources

Finally, the material you provided doesn't really resemble an encyclopedic article. To help you out there, you may wish to model you article around an existing article on an alloy, like this for example. Thanks, hope this helps:) Acather96 (talk) 14:47, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

About Articles for deletion nomination of Ellen Adarna

Ellen Adarna is famous in Philippines and also in the Internet. I have not done writing her information that would be called my work, I have just getting some information about her modeling on a magazine "Uno Magazine", so please give me time to rearrange and fix all the detail that i have done.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Dukman (talkcontribs)

Two things :). First you may wish to comment in the deletion debate yourself, this is fine as long as you make it clear that you are the creator of the page. Secondly, if the page is deleted, you can get a copy restored to your userspace or emailed to you by requesting it at WP:RFUD. From then, you could then work on and re-submit the article. Could I suggest that, if the article is deleted and you create a new version, that you submit the new version through WP:AFC first :). Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 14:31, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

BTW - just read your comment on my talkpage, you're absolutely right I shouldn't have sent a comment back but my sarcastic comment thanking him for 'his most recent contribution' and stating that his 'eloquence being inspirational' was not aimed at Pyrotec who I know was trying to assist me, it was aimed at Leeds 120 who had abused me. You are right though, I shouldnt have sent it at all but it certainly was not aimed at Pyrotec whose efforts I really appreciated, as I did yours. The tag was already there I'm afraid. The problem is is that the software is copyrighted (I'm assuming, and theres no evidence to the contrary on the website)and you can't release under cc-by without permission. incorrect original source

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Railway_154

You removed information added from "Steam Central" (http://steamcentral.com/2010/07/03/southern-2-8-0-154-makes-its-debut/) link, that is not the original source of that chunk of text. I cited the information from it's original location (http://www.southern154.com/history.htm) when originally posting that information. It's the official site of that locomotive which has no copyrights posted and an organization of which I've paid plenty of money to help with their work. It's not plagiarism if you cite the source, which I did. SR6900 (talk) 18:30, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, copyright doesn't work like that. Everything is copyrighted unless there is a note to the contrary. This applies to everyone, regardless of wether you have paid money in. this policy may be helpful. Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 18:34, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

If it works that way, then the source you cited illegally took that information, as well. They cited the original source, as did I, but did they ask for permission of it's use, likely not. 99% of college english papers do this as well. They all can quote information, like me, and get away with it with a single cite. Again, not asking for any permission.SR6900 (talk) 18:43, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The fact that other people/organizations use copyrighted material without permission does not mean that we can do so. Unless the copyright holder has either granted permission to release it under a free license or the material is verifiably in the public domain, it cannot be imported into Wikipedia. VernoWhitney (talk) 18:53, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Newly created page/account

I have received numerous threats from Wikipedia for the deletion of the Neil A. Morgan page. I created it from reading his City bio as well as various articles written about him in local papers. I was told that I could not copy and paste the material from the page so I put it into my own words and cited it, which apparently is still not good enough. I am unsure where to go from here, I have shown his significance through numerous articles, some of which are free some of which are not. Please give me some direction as to where to go from here. Thanks (Flave64 (talk) 20:05, 9 September 2010 (UTC))

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for contributing. The project is always in need of new editors, and I apologise if you feel you have been harshly treated. First of all though, no one is making any threats about deletion, its only based on concerns with copyright and notability. The notability issues have been sorted, and it is no longer an unambiguous infringement, so is no longer a speedy deletion candidate. I tagged the article for close paraphrasing, and listed it at the copyright problems noticeboard. Even though you have changed the article, it still is quite similar. A decision will be made about what to do with the article based on our copyright policy. With to what you can do now, you could either re-write it completely in your own words, or leave it for evaluation. I do have sympathy for you as I had problems with close paraphrasing on the Battle of Dornock article when I was newish to Wikipedia, and if you do need any help just ask :) Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 18:17, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Re: Fair use rationale for File:Prince royce - corazon sin cara.jpg

Well thanks for letting me know, I don't understand too much. I always I thought I could leave the fair use and the rest the stuff up to more experienced Wikipedia editors. If you could just explain to me what I must do because the instructions on Wikipedia is so confusing; sending me to all kinds of pages. I just want a direct instruction on what I must do to give "suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use". What exactly do I type in and where do I get this info from? Please and Thank you, Garry says OK (talk) 19:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

If you use {{Non-free use rationale}}, this is an easy wasy to make sure the image is OK. You can view instructions on how to use it here. If you need a hand, just leave me a message :) Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 19:17, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. I think I got it...it's pretty easy to figure out, thanks again. But I just might need help figuring out if it's replaceable :)

Another question, how do I figure out if an image is of fair use? Just for future references, because I never understood that either lol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gariseiro (talkcontribs) 19:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
To answer both questions, an image like that would not be replacable because the cover is copyrighted and there is no 'free' version out there. And an image is 'fair use' when it is an image that is copyrighted, but is used in an article and passes WP:NFCC. Hope it helps :). Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 19:37, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
OK Cool, thanks...yes it does help; I got it now. I just added the Non-free use rationale, can you check it out for me? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gariseiro (talkcontribs) 19:49, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
It was, but its been deleted now (G7). Thanks anyway, and I hope that you continue to contribute. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 18:06, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I requested that it be deleted because the article it was supposed to be in wasn't notable enough and redirected elsewhere. The problem is is that while you have provided a source for where the image came from, we cant just take and use other peoples work without permission. The image is currently missing a copyright tag, which is why it is up for deletion. If you have taken the image for yourself, own the rights, have permission or believe it could qualify under fair use, then leave a note here and I'll give you a hand. Otherwise, theres not really anything that can be done, we don't want to violate copyright. Thanks for contributing though! Richard Winkler pictures

Dear Acather96...

The pictures uploaded by me is made under the presence of Richard Winkler himself. How would you like to get supporting information in order to get confidence the pictures are ok?

best regards

Hi Kim and welcome to Wikipedia. If I can direct you to Wikipedia:DCM, as this explains the correct procedure. Thanks for contributing, Acather96 (talk) 17:49, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you... Richard Winkler himself sent some email to get approval for the uploaded files. If you can help us out with the citation on the page it would be great. Sorry for being such a greenhorn. :)--Kimsil (talk) 18:43, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

I've added the {{OTRS pending}} tags to the files which should help other editors know whats going on. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 16:16, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello. This file is in the public domain so far as we are concerned here on Wikipedia. It's PD in the US because it was "published" before 1923 so {{PD-US-1923-abroad}} would be fine. This on its own is not ideal as that isn't enough for Commons, where we'd like to send every free image, because we need to know about the source country.

The design was done by Goscombe John in the UK, so it is PD in the UK no later than 2013 (the 70th year after the year he died, 1952), so we need to add {{Do not move to Commons}}, or more precisiely {{Do not move to Commons|expiry=2013}}, to the page. In the highly plausible event it was a Crown Copyright work it is already in the public domain in the UK as it would be {{PD-BritishGov}}, but someone would need to research that. Hope this makes sense, Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:08, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, and first of all apologies for the late reply. I also apologise for the error that was completely my own, I forgot about the PD-US-1923 tag, which obviously means no FUR is required. Thanks for you help, and once again I apologise for my error. Acather96 (talk) 16:21, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
No problem at all. I am endlessly confused by these things myself. Every time I think I understand something to do with copyright and licenses, along comes something new to prove that I don't. All the best, Angus McLellan (Talk) 16:25, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

File:Conway 2009 07.png

I fixed it. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 11:56, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks :). While it was quite minor, it may have been confusing to some editors. Thanks again, Acather96 (talk) 16:22, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Tony Christiansen

Hi...

I hope you can help me. I just logged in the Wikipedia and have several messages from you and other users about the copyright problems with some images I have posted in Tony Christiansen's page. The letter from the judges which you have noted for instance, belongs to Tony Christiansen and that is a copy of the original letter which belongs to Tony. He has given his permission to use it in Wikipedia.

How can I then overcome this copyright problem?

Look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks!

Hi and first of all welcome to Wikipedia :). Regarding File:Tony Christiansen - Inspirational Speaker @ Letter from the Judges.jpg, you have added a copyright tag which is good, so the image is up for deletion. The only thing I reccommend you do now is ask Tony Christiansen to send a quick email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org stating the name of the file on Wikipedia, and that he agrees to license it for 'any use, provided attribution is applied'. If you run into any problems, just leave a message and I'll try my best to help. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 06:37, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
P.S, you might want to do the same for the other files, just to be on the safe side. It's quite important he spells the file names correctly though, as otherwise they can be hard to identify. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 06:41, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Barnstar

  The Copyright Cleanup Barnstar
For your help at WP:SCV over the past five months. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:47, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Wow, thank you so much :) I am overjoyed at the moment, and I mean that genuinely! I hope I can continue to help you out with SCV, and other copyright-related work.Do you mind if I ,at a later date, move it to my userpage and possibly convert into a ribbon? Thanks once again, Acather96 (talk) 15:39, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. And once you get a barnstar you can copy it/move it/convert it/whatever. It's yours and you can do whatever you wish with it. Cheers! VernoWhitney (talk) 16:10, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

File:Yaltah in 2000.jpg

Quote from your message re photo on Yaltah Menuhin page:

"Thank you for uploading File:Yaltah in 2000.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear."

There's also a veiled threat about removing the photo. Strange, when my original request reads:

"I own the copyright, in that I took the photo myself; the photo was taken in London in 2000."

What's so unclear about this statement?

Can you please confirm that the photo is going to be left where it is?

--iainphil (talk) 06:46, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia :) The file in question was nominated for deletion by myself in line with policy(WP:CSD#F4) as the image had a lack of licensing information. In this case, while you had specified the source of the file, you forgot to add a copyright tag (a license). I see the image is now on Commons with a valid copyright tag, so there are no worries now. With regards to the 'veiled threat' that you perceived, no user on Wikipedia has any hidden agendas, and while my approach may have seemed a little heavy-handed (and if it did I apologise), copyright is taken very seriously on Wikipedia. If you have a minute, you might want to read WP:AGF quickly. Anyway, thanks for contributing and if you have any more problems, just leave me a message :) Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 07:15, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Categorizing Commons files

Hi there Acather96, just a note, if a file is being hosted at Commons, it should be categorized there, not here on Wikipedia. Categorizing images here makes the page eligible for speedy deletion under F2. Thank you. — ξxplicit 05:28, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't know that. Apologies, Acather96 (talk) 15:45, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for letting me know. At the time there was no assertion of notability (so it wasn't a 'bad CSD'), but maybe I was a little hasty. Thanks, anyway :) Acather96 (talk) 19:59, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem, I could tell from your recent contribs that you were busy doing good maintenance work when it came in. Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ), the article creator, does great work on obscure bios but they often start out like that and he adds refs as he expands it. Cheers.--Milowenttalkblp-r 20:30, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Just a reminder

When you come across articles like Certified Financial Manager which are clearly copied but assert permission, they should still be blanked as the permission we receive is often unusable for whatever reason. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:01, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder, should be more careful next time. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 09:23, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Nintendogs

Hi. I saw that a determination to delete the file   was made based on the fact that it used copyrighted images. Being that these were all cover art for the video game versions, and that they are all thumbnail images, one being the exact image (only much, much smaller) as File:Dalmatianfriends.jpg, which is used in the article header, I am having difficulty understanding the rationale for deletion. This image has been in the article since December 17, 2009 (see edit history), and is only now being subject to scrutiny. Could you please help me understand the rationale behind the deletion? Thanks. Struhs (talk) 15:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, the media was deleted after a PUF listing. This can be viewed here, which should explain why the image was deleted. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 09:26, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:A.F.C Kempston Rovers.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:A.F.C Kempston Rovers.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.

Hello! I created a new article. Can you give me some suggestions?

Hello! I'm Fariz Luqman. I created a new article. Can you see it and give me some suggestions whether it will being deleted or now. if so, can you tell me what to do?

Article: SkyFireOS Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SkyFireOS —Preceding unsigned comment added by Farizluqman (talkcontribs) 07:27, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi and welcome to Wikipedia :). The page isn't going to be deleted, I just have an issue with image. At current, the image doesn't state the source (where you found the picture, or did you make the screenshot yourself) but more importantly, it doesn't have a image copyright tag. Add a source and tag, and the image should be fine. Leave a note here when you're done and I'll check it. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 07:31, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, okay then. I reuploaded a new version of the screenshot with Creative Commons license (Since I take that screenshot). Also, did the article will soon be nominated for speedy deletion? I want to tell that the development is since 1999 and today I created the page SkyFireOS —Preceding unsigned comment added by Farizluqman (talkcontribs) 07:34, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

You haven't actually added any tags to the image. Also, I don't know if any one will tag it for speedy deletion, its up to the individual. Acather96 (talk) 07:37, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Help with picture having been deleted

Hello, I have been given permission by the owner of Spider Archive to use any of the pictures on his site (he was a member of the band and owns all the photos on the site) I am new to this, and tried without sucess to figure out how to explain that I had permission yesterday. Unfortunately I can't actually look at what was on the image page as it has been deleted, but it was deleted it seems after a PUF listing. It would be better if you asked the deleting admin. Thanks,Acather96 (talk) 07:46, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

cover for omni magazine under title cancilla fillaris

Dear Acather96; Omni magazine used original works of art for covers and articles. The work entitled Cancilla Fillaris is my own work that Omni magzine used for their cover. In fact, the second page of the upload clearly states that the work on the cover is by Rallé. This work is registered in the United States Copyright Office with the registration # VA 1-726-887. I hope that this clarifies the confusion regarding the painting Cancilla Fillaris. Sincerely, Scotchtape1000 (Rallé) P.S. I intend to upload another cover of Omni and would appriciate your cooperation in this matter (71.232.206.77 (talk) 19:15, 9 October 2010 (UTC)) October 9, 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scotchtape1000 (talkcontribs) 17:12, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi and welcome to Wikipedia :) . While I see you have a valid point regarding your image, this isn't really the best place to voice your concerns. Instead, add this to the files listing at PUF (you can find a link on the image page). Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 19:19, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Acather96; Thank you for your timely response. Since I am very new to this and have very little experience I would appreciate some more guidance. I went to the image page and could not figure out what PUF was referring to. Can you please let me know what I need to do? I appreciate your help. Hi, I got a question.

I just created the article, Arika Kane, and I want to know what this article might need or if it really meets notability.

Also, I have a question about this citation: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/nov/13/young-rb-singer-kane-looking-to-learn-at-fest/ On the website, is states "© 2009 Memphis Commercial Appeal. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed."
That means I can't use the info I got from that website for Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gariseiro (talkcontribs) 07:50, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Gariseiro :). With regards to the notability of the article, I think thats fine, as you have provided four references (I'm not sure about refs 3 and 4, but the first two look good). Copyright-wise, I'm afraid you can't use text from that website, as it is copyrighted. However, you could try and rewrite it in your own words if you wanted to. Thanks for contributing, Acather96 (talk) 17:27, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh that's what that means by "Copyrighted", alright, thanks I understand that now lol. OK, cool...this is officially the first article of a person that I've created. Thanks again. Garry says OK (talk) 07:35, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

head of family protrait

Hi dear Acather96; This work is my own painting and represents a section of a larger painting entitled "Alternate for Jan Van Eyck's "Madonna with Chancellor Rollin". The work is my own interpretation using my family - including myself- as figures in the painting. The work is registered with the copyright office under #VA 1-725-895. I hope this clarifies things for you and other users of Wikeperia. I am not always sure what steps to take to remove warnings. I do not see the PUF link there - as you recommended before. I appreciate your diligence in protecting individual's rights to thier own work. I look forward to your recommendations.--Scotchtape1000 (talk) 16:08, 10 October 2010 (UTC)October 9, 2010, 12:10pm

Hi Scotchtape, and thanks for the thanks :). Sorry, but are you talking about File:Cancilla fillaris.pdf? Could you just confirm that it is this file you are talking about or if it is a different one. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 17:33, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Acather96; I am talking about another warning from you regarding another image I uploaded a while back. The title of the file is Ralle_head_family_portrait. It says that you placed the warning yesterday at 16:35pm; if I understand this correctly. Not sure what I should do at this point, hence my note to you to clarify things. Thank you.--Scotchtape1000 (talk) 22:11, 10 October 2010 (UTC)October 10, 2010, 6:13pm.

Hi and first of all apologies for the late reply. The file is missing evidence of permission, meaning someone other than the creator has uploaded it but claims they own the copyright. Please provide evidence of permission by either providing a link to a site with an explicit grant of permission that complies with the licensing policy or by forwarding email communication granting permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 17:39, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Message from E. S. V. Leigh (talk · contribs)

Hello Acather96. Why did you remove my images? These are not being used under the fair use clause. They are being used with permission of the copyright holder. In most cases this is in fact me. Please advise whether I have used the correct image tags and what I can do to circumvent your criticism. These images are for my first wikipedia article. I do not want to spend another 5 hours uploading these again.E. S. V. Leigh (talk) 19:29, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi E. S. V. Leigh and welcome to Wikipedia :). While you have placed copyright tags on the image, you need to add a fair use rationale, regardless of wether they are used with permission or not. And you are given a week to add these, so you have a while. If you need a hand, leave me a message. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 19:37, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello Acather 96. Are you sure about this? I have not seen such a stipulation in anything I have read about uploading images or tags. If you are sure, then please let me know how I can go about adding the provisions you say are necessary.E. S. V. Leigh (talk) 19:50, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, yes I am sure. It is mentioned on the tag. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 20:07, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, but I have no idea what you are talking about! Can you please suggest what I should do? I have gone to the image pages and do not see anywhere where I can add additional information. I have also scoured the info pages regarding images, tags, fair use, non-free use, etc. I will be happy to rectify this, but I would appreciate your telling me exactly how to do it. And why do I need to justify fair use if I have permission from the copyright holder to use the images? Regards, E. S. V. Leigh (talk) 20:13, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

The easiest solution would be to ask the copyright owner to release copyright for all purposes as described at WP:IOWN, then the images can be moved to Commons and no fair use rationale is required for their use on any project. – ukexpat (talk) 20:21, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello again. I recently uploaded File:TumMMWPintro.jpg as a free image on Wikimedia Commons. I edited my image on Wikipedia English to reflect this, but the bottom portion seems to have stayed the same. Should I leave it as is, or somehow import the Wikimedia Commons image into my article? And if so, how should I do this? Thanks for your help. E. S. V. Leigh (talk) 18:05, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks--I added a lead and accompanying photo. E. S. V. Leigh (talk) 04:47, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Right, well first of all I see you have uploaded the image on Commons and Wikipedia. I've tagged the Wikipedia version for deletion as the image is on Commons, and we can use Commons images in articles. Once the local version is deleted, the Commons image will automatically go into use in that article (because the file names are exactly the same). Two questions as well, did you take the photo and also is this account Markleyboyer (talk · contribs) yours or in any way related to you? Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 06:14, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

File:Aeronwy.jpg

The thing is that other elements on the page make it obvious that it's being claimed under fair use. It doesn't have a proper fair use statement tag (e.g. {{non-free fair use in}}) or a proper fair use rationale, so you could tag it with {{nrd}}, but it's evidently being claimed as fair use. Nyttend (talk) 11:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi! OTRS has no importance here? This ticket (there is a ticket) was accepted because she is a not-alive person (and, please, see the "description" line in the page of the file, there is her date of birth and death). How did you select this file for speedy delection? I'm not personally interested in keeping this image on en.wiki, I uploaded just because a requestion came to OTRS, I processed it (because she is not alive) and I uploaded here this file, as per request. Bye. --Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 16:39, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, and with regards to Roberto Mura's comment, the validity of the OTRS ticket is not in question, it is the copyright status of the image. On the page, there are three tags, one is the OTRS, which is irrelevant. The other two, {{Non-free with permission}} and {{Non-free with NC}}. The Non-free permission tag states that another fair use tag is required, and if not should be marked for deletion in accordance with WP:CSD#F3. The non-commercial tag is not a fair-use tag, it also states that another fair use tag is required. As the image has no fair use tag ,its copyright status is unclear which means the image is used only 'with permission'; the on,y other tag on the page. F3 includes 'used with permission', so it is still my belief that the image should be speedily deleted. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 17:40, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Above the information template is a fourth tag, {{Short-Rationale}}, which recognises an attempt at a rationale. That rationale is as follows: "EDP: Portrait of dead person, no free image available". If it's not an attempt at a rationale, what is the point of this statement? I'm not sure what "EDP" is, but both of the elements in the sentence are common elements in a fair use rationale because they speak to the non-replaceability factor, and neither of them is otherwise relevant in an image description. Nyttend (talk) 12:04, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

OK, I don't really think this discussion is going anywhere (and that is not meant in a negative way, I just think we both have different opinions on what should be done and interpretations of policy etc.), and it would be a little overkill to take it to another forum as it is only one file. I've tagged with {{Nld}}, as it has no license. Acather96 (talk) 16:31, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

No complaints; that's quite correct. Nyttend (talk) 16:34, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
