Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Dinosaurs/dinosaur articles by size. Would it be helpful to set up something like this for WP:ORE? I was checking out their project because someone at WP:KANSAS mentioned that they "churn out FAs like clockwork..." Katr67 18:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

List of Chief Justices of the Oregon Supreme Court

I don't necessarily endorse splitting it off, but as long as it was, I figured I would try to clean up the mess--thanks for finishing up. So is that part of GA criteria to remove lists from articles? If not, I agree the split probably wasn't needed. Katr67 20:33, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

As far as I know it is not in the critera, just misguided personal preference. Along with moving the pictures around, which the preference for images is not all on the right, the editor only made cosmetic changes. The main problem with splitting off the list is that it could easily be AFD'd. At some point I even thought of making a seperate Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice article that would have the list, but I didn't see enough content to justify a seperate article. This whole new GA review is odd, I mean the captiol was reviewed a week after it passed. Odd, but oh well. Aboutmovies 20:56, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Digimarc edit

Look, I respect your answer, and I'm sorry for whatever I did in that talkpage that was wrong. I just think that everybody has a right to contribute, but what if they mess something up that was completely relevant? What if they change it to something completely wrong? COTW award

Hey, thank you very much for the COTW award for Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. However, I would argue that EngineerScotty made some much more substantive contributions than I did, and was there early showing leadership in how the article should develop and showing real buy-in to the larger COTW effort. All I did, really, was add some nice visuals late in the game, and mostly on parts relating to Washington rather than Oregon. Hey there, I'm impossibly beseiged by real life work right now, and can't do as thorough a reading of Hillsboro, Oregon as I wanted to. Sorry about that. I did leave some brief comments there, I hope they're helpful.

Also, Columbia River was just reviewed for GA, and the reviewer made some excellent observations. Unfortunately it looks like a pretty big job to meet all the demands before the GA hold expires. I wonder if you might consider making that a COTW next week. I know it's a last minute request, so if you have other plans that's fine of course, but if you're able to fit it in I think it would be a good one. -Pete 21:45, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for discussing this with me, I would first like to inform you that this comment was not specifically directed at you but the many editors who feel the same way as you. Second, my poor use of words has led you astray, I do not think cadets are just police officers minus the gun, and I will admit it was a poor use of words. A Police cadet is a sworn member of the Law Enforcement Community, thought limited to what they can and can not do. My view of what a police Cadet is has not changed sense this RfA, and will never change as it is my career and i know what i can and can not do, I understand the great ethical and honesty requirements of working as a police officer and a cadet, so to answer your question, no i do not still think cadets are cops without guns, cause that is not what i thought to begin with, i know what i am. I beleive i have also owned up to many mistakes here on wikipedia and in real life, and have done so multiple times through out my RfA. Nice to know you felt my contributions to the OSC were that helpful, I feel like I played more of a supporting role than anything else. I don't think the Columbia will be hitting GA anytime soon, too much work to be done. (Not that that's a bad thing, I think ultimately the article will be a lot better due to the feedback.) And I haven't cracked the DYK world yet, I tend to edit so incrementally that I don't often think of it. But when I expand George W. Joseph I'll think about it, I think significant expansions qualify in addition to article creation (?)

thanks for your earlier feedback on Rogue Ales I just created an article on Mo's restaurants and it was up for about a nanosecond before being tagged as spam <wow>. Since you are also list on WP:WPOR as being a participant in Oregon business related articles I wondered if you had a moment to review this article (and advise on how to have it added to Oregon projects, I'm not sure if I just add the tag or if it needs to be done another way in fact I'm pretty confused all the way around).

What is your and Katr's interest in this article? Please explain. The first nomination was close and too close to the death event. It stands to reason the article would not survive a second nomination, because Wikipedia is not a memorial and this article is not sufficiently sourced.

As they say, you attract more flies with sugar than vinegar. Start behaving properly and people will be less likely to return the attacks. Not to mention the AFD will fail, you really need to read WP:BIO. Notability is not that the person scored 1 touchdown, it is they are worthy of note, and that is shown by substantial coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the source. The death there made national news, thus there will be plenty of sources to back up the notability claim. Same thing with your now desire to delete the Wood article, there are multiple, reliable sources that are independent of the subject, and more can be added if need be (what is it three newspapers and a book?). You really need to seperate the real world from Wikipedia when it comes to what notability is defined as. Wikipedia has a different standard.

As to fairness, will you appologize and retract incorrect accusations that you have made against several editors? When you do that, then, and only then can you talk about the "interests of fairness" in regards to anything related to you on Wikipedia. Aboutmovies 08:01, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Comment: You misspelled 'apologize.' And I disagree with your assertion that a second AFD would fail. First off, Wikipedia is WP:NOT#MEMORIAL. Second, the subject is not notable 'aside from coverage of his death' which is, by definition, discountable.

In regards to Mary Ramsey Wood, it could easily be argued that the subject is a LOCALFAME person and doesn't meet the criteria for notability.

In regards to apologies, I'm still waiting for one from you regarding the Mary Ramsey Wood case, where I turned out to be correct. I also find it a 'personal vendetta' for you to chime in on my own AFD, which, though it appears to be going down this 'election cycle', I'm still only 33 and circumstances may change.

In the Keeley Dorsey dispute, I did not ask you to help; there are plenty of other editors out there. However, you chose, once again, to oppose a move I made. Not surprising.

In regards to Mary Ramsey Wood:

As to Dorsey, the coverage is not a memorial, it is about what the media believed to be a worthy topic for coverage. Again, Wikipedia does not equal the real world. If a topic is covered by reliable sources, at a certain depth, then they are notable for Wikipedia purposes and Dorsey passes that test. But, feel free to nominate it again, along with the Wood. But again, you still don't get what every editor that was involved with the Wood article gets except you (hint, hint, you might want to think about that) is that it was not how old she was (for the umpteenth time I don't care how old she was), but the method in which the information you wanted to add was presented in the article. Again as I believe a lot of other editors have told you, we have a lot of guidelines and rules for editing on Wikipedia, and you refuse to abide by them. As Pete said, feel free to list it for AFD, but I caution you, it is simply a waste of time the article meets WP:BIO. It doesn't matter if she was or was not 120, the fact is reliable sources covered her, thus notable. In Wikipedia notability does not equal fame, which it actually says that under WP:NOTE. And you seem to confuse the two. And as to local newspapers, and local books please point me to where in WP:RS it says that? Oh, wait it doesn't. Please read what Wikipedia has to offer in guidelines and rules, we do not simply go off of your opinion on matters such as these, we use the already developed by consensus guidelines and rules and policies. Lastly, as to the autobio on you, that's right you could at some point be notable, I never said you couldn't, in fact read through the first AFD and I said "autobiography does not meet WP:BIO. Could it? Maybe, but as it is now, it does not." and also "OK, out of all of those sources added above, only the one that is a re-print from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution qualifies as significant coverage. It is actually about Robert Young. But I don't think one is enough. Do you have more like that? Had it been an entire biography in book form, that would be enough, but not one article in the local/regional paper." So, yes if you get more coverage in reliable sources, then yes you will be notable by Wikipedia standards. It appears you are well known in your field, but that is not notable for Wikipedia. Again, real world, Wikipedia, two different things. Call your friends at all the newspapers who have used you as a source and have them write an article on you. Really, is it that difficult to call them and have them interview you and write a piece on you? According to you, you are world famous, so one would think they would be beating down your door to write an article on you. Once that happens I'm sure other editors would be willing write a biography on you. I would even do it, granted again you make amends where necessary as pointed out by myself and others. But until you begin editing properly, I and many editors (i.e. see all the admins at the ANI) will continually push you to edit/contribute properly. Sanity Check

OK, so I swear I haven't been hitting the brownies, but I also swear some of the Oregon history templates sported the color combo of History Sign Brown and Oregon Template Periwinkle. But not anymore?! I was going to suggest that those colors clashed a bit, but now I can't figure out which one(s) they were. I re-did the templates a month or so ago to make them collapsable, so maybe the color clash disappeared. I don't recall any periwinkle (but I'm a guy so I'm not really sure what color that really is; we know black, blue, white, gray, purple, green, yellow, brown, orange, and sometimes burgandy). OK, but it didn't USETA look like that. I just noticed this a day or two ago. It shows up perry, er, light blue in both Safari and FireFox 2 on my Mac, but all the headers used to be brown. Interestingly...

I see we share a birthday. Just dropping by to send a note/question regarding the ongoing improvement of my first Wikipedia article. Are internet references the only references allowed on Wikipedia? The subject of my article has had plenty of publicity in the past, but most of it was in print, and I'm having trouble locating the 'big-ticket' references considered ideal with the standard search engines. As to the specific notability of a contributing party in award winning media, I would assert that music, (and sound) though not credited with top billing, is a crucial part of the entertainment and advertising industries, and worthy of notation. To overuse an example: without the music of John Williams, Jaws, Star Wars, ET and Raiders of the Lost Ark would not have been what they were. People in circles of production are most aware of the importance that musical composition and sound play in the success of a project. Since notability is subjective, and the importance of relevant references is limited to the media consumption of those making the determination, I would think that more time would be needed to allow those with access to that media to contribute to the article. A couple of weeks seems insufficient to build an article from a collective of industry insiders, such as those the subject would serve. Thank you for the interaction. A Beavercat is simply a beaver with a cat tail. It cuddles up with you and enjoys having its butt scratched for a while, but will then (when it gets bored) turn and bite you. Evan Montvel Cohen

Don't ask me how I got involved in this article, but you could take a look and maybe weigh in on the talk page? I know hardcore BLPers feel justified removing anything that is unsourced, but I feel that if the info is uncontroversial, it's not the end of the world if the article is tagged for refs. The current version has returned the article to a particular POV--see discussion on talk page. Originally the article was more balanced and properly wikified (if unsourced), but it was sanitized at some point and now it appears to have swung the other way. I never heard of the guy until some related Guam guy with Oregon connections showed up on the watchlist and I looked at the users contribs. Perhaps he is not exactly a great role model but it seems like the guy's bio should include more than the scandal. Only if you have time, but I know you follow the BIO stuff more than I do. It shouldn't be too hard to dig up the refs, I'll see if I can get to it one of the days; don't hold your breath, but I doubt the folks who want to remove the pro-to-neutral stuff will do it either. All the references I used had it as Clark, including Pacific and the city of FG (citation includes a scan of a land claim map with it minus the e). So my guess is minus the e. See the talk page for the reason why I deleted the image link. It was primarly do to how it was being displayed. Bellotti vs. Riley

Personally, I don't think either of them really belong (or Phil Knight either, for that matter), but I do think if one is listed we should also list the other. Are they really that important to the modern history of the state of Oregon though? I don't see how they should be listed as one of the 23 most significant people to the modern history of Oregon. Problem with Portal:Oregon/Selected biography/21

"Lovejoy Street and Lovejoy Fountain Park in downtown Portland are named in his honor, while the character Reverend Timothy Lovejoy in The Simpsons is named after this street."

This sentence is uncited and WP:OR in the original article, so as it stands it is unsourced in the blurb as well, and should be removed until proper sourcing is provided for this. However, this will then make the blurb during the meantime way too short in proportion to the other Bio blurbs. Cirt (talk) 07:08, 15 January 2008 (UTC).

Selected quotes

Thanks for the additions, but there are some minor problems with all of the new ones:

1. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/12 - Missing a free-use image - all of the other quotes have one.
2. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/13 - IMDB is a dubious source for a quote, best to use a better source.
3. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/14 - Same here, best to find a better source than a website like SongLyrics.com.

• Thanks for adding the image. With the bold, I was wondering the same thing (I may have fixed it). As to sourcing, step back a moment and think about that. First, the instructions for the portal component says to list the subpage from where the quote came from, not an outside source. Second, if so we go with the normal RS/V requirements for the Portal, everything in the portal needs to have the sources (i.e. all the featured and biography articles). Portals are not set up that way, which is why all references are stripped from the blurps. I know Wikipedia:Portal says the normal rules apply, but I think common sense would dictate that is more that the sources within Wikipedia used need to have the info abide by those rules before including the information/article in the portal. Otherwise everything but the quotes at this point need to go, right? Kind of like the WikiNews component where the source is not there until you click through.

• You raise good points. (Don't know why the bolding is still here, must have something to do w/ your DYK notice from above.) However, these do apply to the "Selected article" sections - if sourced in their articles, then a blurb is okay, because it's used in this fashion at WP:TFA. But with smaller little quotes like WP:DYK, where we can show it once appeared on the Main Page, and quotes, where sourcing is relatively easy to find, then why not? • Personally, I always go for some feedback from some experienced portal people at WP:PPREV before going straight to WP:FPORTC. But as for what else we can do before putting it up for a portal peer review, the only other thing I can think of that would be nice would be to get up to a total of (20) quotes at Portal:Oregon/Selected quote, and have them all have free-use images and sources for the quotes on the subpages. Teufel's Farm Strip Existence?

Take a look at the coordinates, this is in the middle of a new housing development at the old Oregon Roses facility which is likely where the airstrip was located. My dad use to work there back in the 1960s and talked about them using planes for spraying. OK, first, with much of the portal work, great job. However, please be wary of WP:OWN. As to these quotes: Greg Oden was the #1 draft pick of the Portland Trailblazers (Oregon's only major team), and the injury was not only huge headlines in the US sports media, but dominated the news here (in Oregon) for at least a week and the newspeople here (Oregon) still mention it at least once a week. Phil Knight is an Oregonian, co-founded Nike (the only Fortune 500 company left in the state of Oregon), and gives a crap load of money to the UofO (part of the Oregon University System), and by the way signed Woods while in Oregon after Woods won the US Amateur at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club located in Oregon, where Nike is headquartered (there is also a Tiger Woods Center building at the Nike Campus in Oregon). Art is also an Oregonian, and Everclear is a Portland band the The Oregonain has termed along the lines of the best rock band ever out of Portland, and some of the lyrics in the songs reference Portland (I wanna buy you that big house way up in the West Hills), and in 2004 Art was a delegate from Oregon to the DNC. That is certainly enough relevance, but the lay reader of the portal will not understand the relevance just from reading the quote, but if you feel it's appropriate to include them, okay. As to your bringing up WP:OWN - WP:OWN would be if I just reverted you and removed those quotes outright, or reverted any and all activity done by anyone else on the portal. I have not done anything like that. Quite the contrary - I have frequently sought out both your opinion here on your talk page, and the opinion of others on the talk page of the portal itself. I'm sorry, but when you question other's inclusion of items, and tend to set the rules without discussing, that is OWN, and reverting edits based on those criteria certainly is WP:OWN. There was no "ownership" meant in that statement, perhaps you are interpreting too much into what you feel the tone was. And I have not been setting rules without discussing - why do you think I recently proposed the idea of tightening the criteria of Selected articles and Selected biographies on the talk page to WP:GA and WP:FA only, when I could have instead simply been WP:BOLD and changed the criteria myself, and removed the articles other editors had previously added. I did not do that. I posted to the talk page, asked for feedback, and when I got feedback that others (you) wanted to also keep the "B" rated articles, I did not contest that comment. That is not WP:OWN. It is the opposite. It is seeking out feedback on the portal talk page and user's talk pages. Why do you think I have been doing that, multiple times?     • Or better yet, take it to the portal talk page. That's part of the reason why it comes across as ownership. When you go to a particular user's talk page and start questioning them about their edits, that comes across as ownership, not to mention other people involved may not be watching that talk page. Like I said, I and the other editors here at WPOR really appreciate your efforts, but we tend to know Oregon better than outsiders, such as the bit about the federal courthouse and the assassination plot. We can help you with things like that, and by letting you know what Oregon is about, thus what should be covered. I also hope we can continue to work on this, it has expanded quite a bit, so I'll drop the ownership issue.
    • On a side note, the only reason the Wikinews had a newer story is because I went and wrote the story so things could be a bit more current. Portal peer review

Portal:Oregon is undergoing a portal peer review, you can find the link to it listed at the bottom of the portal talk page, or at WP:PPREV. RichardF (talk · contribs), a user experienced at getting lots of portals to featured portal status, has made some good points. Zaui (talk · contribs) brought up an interesting idea carried over from some other states' portals - of perhaps splitting off some of the articles from the "Selected articles" section, and creating a new Selected attractions section. No problem, I hate those POV pushers. I'd be great if it was a rule that if your campaign edits on another candidate's page then your article gets deleted. It would take like a week for all the campaigns to violate that rule and lead to all candidate pages being deleted, and then no more POV problems! But that's just a pipe dream.
