Thankyou for the kind Christmas/New Year wishes, mate. All the best for the upcoming year ahead! Forfuxake (talk) 00:40 26 December 2017 (EDST)

Happy Holidays!

Hi! Thanks very much! Happy Holidays to you!

Happy Holidays

Thank you, Abishe, I really appreciated, and hope you enjoy the Christmas, too :D !

Can I ask you a question ?

Hi, Abishe, again, thank you for your note. Can I ask you something: I created My account: Giangkiefer, in 2014, but, since then, I have only 4478 edits (I created over 60 articles and edits many other articles). I had seen your user account, you created the account early in 2017, but since then you have 100.000 edits. I've seen many other accounts, many of them also have 100.000 edits. Can you explain it to me. I don't get it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Giangkiefer (talkcontribs) 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Repetitive language

Hi there, re: this article creation, a few thoughts:

  1. Please note that the phrasing "The film stars Jyothika and Revathy in the main lead roles" is extraordinarily repetitive. "Stars" and "starring" typically means the people in the lead roles. Lead roles are main roles. So you're basically saying the same thing three times. Please consider keeping it simpler, like: "The film stars Jyothika and Revathy."
  2. Please also note that per MOS:FILM (which I hope you're familiar with, because it represents community expectations for content), we should be focusing on primary genre that a film is considered by most sources to be, rather than just wedging a bunch of genres together like "black comedy action comedy-drama". Here again you've introduced repetitive language, plus "black comedy" and "comedy-drama" overlap somewhat conceptually. Unless multiple sources are calling it a "black comedy action comedy-drama", which is an impossibility, please stick to the simplest description, whether that's "action" or "action comedy" or "black comedy". Linking multiple primary genres together just starts to look clunky and unprofessional. And looking at this, TOI says "Touted to be a black comedy with a touch of action and drama", which would suggest that labeling it action and drama would be to focus unduly on minor narrative elements. All comedy employs some form of drama. Many comedies have action. Many action films have comedic moments (Die Hard, for example) but these moments don't change what a film's shape is supposed to be, and that is what a genre represents.
  3. Please also note that "Tamil language" is a compound adjective, because it is two words describing a noun (the film), so it should be presented as "Tamil-language film" the way we would say "It was a Spanish-language film". The correct link formatting would be: [[Tamil language|Tamil]]-language Conversely, if we were talking about the Tamil language in general, it would not be hyphenated, like "He went to school to study the Tamil language."

The article Kolkata Knight Riders–Royal Challengers Bangalore rivalry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article does not assert notability of the rivalry itself. Sure, they two sides have played each other so many times, but that doesn't make the rivalry notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 2019–20 Derde Divisie

Which info needs additional citations? --Sb008 (talk) 06:28, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

@Sb008:ː It doesn't restricted to headings or categories. I meant the entire article to have at least three sources similar to the 2018–19 Derde Divisie. Abishe (talk) 09:18, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

There are five (two more than you require) sources on the page. The extra sources on the 2018–19 Derde Divisie relate to events which happened later on in the season. If similar events happen in this season they will be added likewise. The 2019–20 Derde Divisie page has, for corresponding sections, as many sources as e.g. the 2019–20 Premier League page. Seems to me you got two options, you either remove the {{refimprove}} template or you add it on a view more pages starting with the 2019–20 Premier League. --Sb008 (talk) 11:41, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

Hello Abishe,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Eruma Saani Vijay

Just wanted to let you know that the page Vijay Kumar (Eruma Saani) does not have reliable sources.

-- DragoMynaa (Talk) 12:39, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

@DragoMynaa: As you have mentioned here, I can also see the article lacks sufficient sources but none of them have reviewed it yet. I am not interested in reviewing that one as it is alleged that the article (created by new user User:VishGopi) may have been created based on the assumption of undisclosed payments, violating the guidelines of Wikipedia. Based on this it can be even nominated for deletion. Thanks for mentioning this issue. I know you are doing fine work with the Indisn cinema workforce. Keep it up. Disambiguation link notification for September 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2019 Sri Lanka floods, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hakmana (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Aatank

Hi, can you improve this and remove the tag?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 26 September 2019 (UTC) @Dr. Blofeld: So sweet of your suggestion and I will try to fix the issue. I think you created the article in 2011 and now I can see it is PRODED for mainly depending upon IMDb source. I want to search for other sources and since the film was a 1996 release, it will be quite unsure about the availability of reliable sources. But I really like your request because it is a pleasure to discuss with a veteran editor like you and I will cherish these moments. Hope I can help you out before 30 September 2019. Thanks. Abishe (talk) 14:44, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

Abishe, I had been tracking this article from WP:India watchlist and had been looking to improve the sourcing. When I finally came to dePROD it, I found that you had already beat me to it. I was glad to see that and added couple of sources I had found. Good work. --DBigXray 09:52, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

WiR stub contest

Hi there, Abishe. Thanks for participating in the contest. I've been checking article length and see that Risa Sugimoto is still too short (730 characters, 121 words). Nicole Schafer almost reaches the mark but not quite. All the others are fine.--Ipigott (talk) 08:06, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

@Ipigott: Oh! I am terribly sorry for my error and it is unfortunate that I breached the guidelines. I will try to expand a bit. Hopefully I can solve this issue. Thanks Abishe (talk) 08:20, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
You certainly don't need to apologize. It's not too easy to explain the concept of "running text" or "readable prose". Those used to submitting articles for DYK are more familiar with it but the Wikipedia tools come up with all kinds of different statistics on an article's length. Maybe you are right that we should have adopted clearer rules on the article listings from the start but when I asked for comments on our ideas page, no one made any suggestions. Now that we've started on this path, I think we should see how things evolve over the next couple of days before introducing any changes.--Ipigott (talk) 10:39, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
@Ipigott: Thanks for your sweet reply. As what you have said here, we can see how this campaign would go on for a next couple of days. Hopefully many volunteers will take part in the contest. Abishe (talk) 12:32, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Priyani Wijesekera

The article Priyani Wijesekera has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails to establish the notability of the subject. Simply being the ambassador to another country does not confer notability. Receiving a Zonta Award is not notable. Needs more than mentions in passing, requires significant coverage.

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello Abishe,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 818 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Article Creation

Greetings. I have observed you and you have a great rep of creating good Wikipedia pages. I am starting off now and I am interested in creating articles, but I don't know how to find topics to create an article. I have observed you and you have no shortage of topics to create articles. I would like to where do you get those topics. I looked for some in Requested articles and other than I have no clue. I would like you to help me out a bit. Thanks and Regards, Beastranger (talk) 16:08, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

@Beastranger: Hi. Thanks for your greetings and I would like to help you to become a prolific Wikipedian. I can understand your feelings which I also experienced as a newbie. I create articles irrespective of the nations and I mainly consider to create articles related to women, also I create articles about Sri Lankan, Indian films. I can recommend you to take part in Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Months of African Cinema where I also currently participate. The contest will conclude this November but you can help the motove of the contest to reach 500 articles by end of November. But it only stands at 232 at the moment. You can able to increase this number and you can see this suggestion list for creation inorder to add to the contest if you are interested. Abishe (talk) 17:38, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply and I will surely look into that. Beastranger (talk) 03:23, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Quick question

Hello Abishe! First of all, thank you for reviewing my articles! I got a better understanding now and it's moving smoother. I wanted to ask you a small question. Can I add to Women in Red November edithon an articled which I significantly expanded from a draft, that was abandoned for more than 5 months? Or is it only for newly created stuff? I'm talking about Pilvi Takala. Thank you in advance! --Less Unless (talk) 23:24, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

@Less Unless: Well thanks for the greetings. I just went through the article which was created as a draft by a new user called Nschockley1 in May 2019. I also noticed you have helped significantly to expand the article. Now the article has reached start class so there is a way you can add the article in the list of destubbed articles for the month of November and sign your name. Here the old articles can be added which are expanded from stub class to start class level. Abishe (talk) 01:39, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

WP:BEFORE

Hello! Please try doing WP:BEFORE before you nominate articles for deletion. Excellent sources for A Line Made by Walking were on the first page of search results, so it is clear you did not check.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:45, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

@ThatMontrealIP: This was a rate failure from my side. I understand that this was one of my careless mistakes when nominating articles for deletion. I Afded it based on this revision. I should thank you for expanding the content of the article and notably adding about 17 references. Well the article creator didn't cite any sources, which made me to nominate it for deletion. I will be careful next time. Abishe (talk) 04:53, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Like I said, WP:BEFORE.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 05:26, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Carolina De Oliveira

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to Carolina De Oliveira. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 19:21, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

@Ronz: I am extremely sorry to hear about this. But I created this article as a part of the list of women who are included by BBC's 100 Women. When I created this I used the Simple Wiki as a source and I added the information by modifying the content of the article. One of my mistakes is that I used a blog source and I accept it. I promise that I won't lead to a situation like this hear after. Thank you. Abishe (talk) 03:17, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Glad to hear it, though I'm concerned that we've been through this before: User_talk:Abishe/Archive_3#Öykü_Karayel --Ronz (talk) 04:12, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

@Ronz: It's a down memory lane moment and thanks for reminding that. I never thought of the previous discussion with you. At that time I was relatively a newbie but now I have to learn now from my unfortunate error. I will be careful next time. Abishe (talk) 04:23, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

  • I arrived here by watchlist. I have to add that this new article (today) used Prabook as a source– since removed. @Abishe:, are you aware of how WP:RS works, and that Prabook itself a wiki with no editorial standards?ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:35, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

@ThatMontrealIP: Oh! That's was my careless mistake. I didn't notice that and thanks for reminding that. I used that source as it was mentioned in one of the talk page messages as a source. I reached that talk page of Dan arndt's sandbox talk page by looking at the pages which are linked to Vini Vitharana. I have been a burden here these days and I am seeking for break after Christmas. Delhi fire

Abishe, I did not understand your comment "My concern is just to add more sources for this article." Are you trying to say that the article is badly sourced and needs more sources ? that is not the case. I suggest you change your comment. --DBigXray 14:12, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

@DBigXray: I am so sorry that I have made you confuse in this regard. The article Delhi factory fire currently has 8 sources. But when I added my comment in the ITN/Candidates section, I only noticed three sources. That caused me to make a comment like that. Now I can see sources are added to the article one by one. So I will erase my comment. Thank you for updating the article and for letting me know about my error. Thank you. Abishe (talk) 14:24, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

thank you for clarifying, as always, it is the quality of sources and not the number that matters, even 2-3 high quality sources are enough. But if something is badly sourced or unsourced, then, it can be a problem. you are free to update your comment. Hopefully you are now satisfied with the number of sources. Please follow WP:INDENT . regards. --DBigXray 14:26, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I also agree with the quality and not the quantity, but I thought in order to impress fellow Wikipedians I gave my point about the number of sources. Abishe (talk) 14:36, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
I understand, thanks a lot for commenting there and improving the article. keep up the good work. cheers. --DBigXray 14:39, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much. You too keep the good work. Really motivated to contribute to Indian topics as well. I am having suggestions to have redirects for the two different topics covered under disambiguation page 2019 Delhi fire; 2019 Delhi factory fire redirect to Delhi factory fire and 2019 Delhi hotel fire redirect to Delhi hotel fire. Abishe (talk) 14:49, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Check what you accept

At 3:20 December 8, 2019 you accepted this edit, even though they removed the BLP template you accepted. You should not just blindly click accept without actually looking at the edit. TurboSonic (talk) 03:19, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

@TurboSonic: I am so sorry for this careless error. I was truly blind in this regard as I didn't look into that removal of BLP template. I am just new to pending changes reviewing and I will learn from this mistake. Thank you for alerting me. Abishe (talk) 05:29, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

'It is strict!' is not a reason to edit war

Wiki's servers reside in the USA, and are only under U.S. law. Indian law does not apply. Secondly, the family themselves are using her full name and photograph on the news - in India! At least three Indian online papers have named her and posted her photo. There was a big march in New Dehli in support of the victim that had her name and photo on their march banners. And finally, ABC, NBC, etc., have all now named the victim. The protection laws are for the living - she's a murder victim, whose family are appearing in public and on news media naming her and showing her photo - any BLP violation is no longer relevant. Her name will be on the article - please don't try and stop the inevitable.

Please read WP:BLPNAME. It is strictly followed since it affects the family of the victim and the suspects here. --DBigXray 20:13, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
I'm very aware of this guideline - which is NOT policy! - you all need to use your heads, for the reasons outlined. You better realize that the name will go in - so, please, stop resisiting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.111.47.191 (talk) 23:39, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
50.111.47.191, That is not a guideline but a policy. 2nd If you believe that repeating it again and again will help your cause then no you are mistaken. You are welcome to Follow these steps of dispute resolution now. What you cannot do is WP:EDITWAR. --DBigXray 22:04, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

@DBigXray:, 50.111.47.191 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) I acted in that manner because of the law in consideration thinking that it would deteriorate the victim's family reputation and Wikipedia is certainly a powerful tool. I can remember DBigXRay also cautioned me when I asked them to have a redirect of the murder of the particular individual in consideration to the 2019 Hyderabad gang rape. That's actually my first edit warring and my edit summary was incomplete due to technical issues. Since several Indian and international sources reveal the name of it (possibly with the consent of victim's family) Ok you can add the name of the individual if interested. I reverted the edit of the IP since it seemed to be controversial. Another good example similar to the WP:BLPNAME of individual that I came across just recently was when I started up an article 2019 Sri Lankan Swiss embassy controversy which is currently at Afd where a local embassy woman was abducted and harrased. Her name was not leaked by the media in the internet but I noticed her name was leaked in one of the Sri Lankan local papers. I didn't want to add the name since it was confidential. In the Hyderabad case, of course sources are not hesitant to mention the name of the victim. You might think this might be irrelevant but I am just comparing the two different controversial topics and how they are handled in Wikipedia. I regret for my edit warring and I am sorry for my mistake. Regards! Abishe (talk) 01:10, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Pervez Musharraf

On 18 December 2019, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Pervez Musharraf, which you nominated and updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:15, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Categories

Hello. Please be aware that the rules on links are different for categories compared to articles - per WP:REDNOT you should never add a red link to a category, either add the category or don't add the link. It will also help you with the categorisation - for instance you left a red link from Category:Deaflympic competitors for Italy to Category:Italy sportspeople, but if you had looked at the hierarchy you would have seen that you wanted Italian sportspeople (or in fact, Category:Italian disabled sportspeople. Cheers. Le Deluge (talk) 15:18, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Le Deluge: Thank you for reminding me about my mistake. I didn't notice that error and I will be careful next time. Regards. Happy Holidays. Abishe (talk) 17:07, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter December 2019

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.
