Yellowknife Post Office intro

Thanks for reviewing and approving the article ... wow, all these Yellowknife ones are coming in all of a sudden!

Re combining those grafs: While I did include citations in my intro because I didn't know how long the article was going to be at that time (and, patrol-exemption notwithstanding, you don't want to come back from the break you took after the initial creation and find that someone speedied the article for not having sources ... it has almost happened, even recently), generally I don't per WP:LEADCITE unless there's some overwhelming reason, like it's an extraordinary claim such as a superlative or unique fact about the subject or a negative fact about an LP. Or if it's the DYK hook fact. The logic is that every statement you make in an intro is to be expanded upon and fully sourced in the article, so an excess of citations there is a hindrance to readability.

Funny that this should happen to me, though, as I just got off having the inverse of this argument in another nomination where I was the reviewer. The nominator there absolutely refused to cite the hook fact in the intro despite my pleas, because he had this absolutist reading of LEADCITE that there shalt be no cites in an intro.

I suppose we've got to strike a balance on this. Daniel Case (talk) 02:12, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

I just want this to go through without any undo nitpicking. I personally wouldn't care, but if you get the wrong DYKers interested, they can make a mess of almost anything. TWFUAWD. 7&6=thirteen () 02:17, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Ref

Please add a ref for the bridge bit. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:52, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Done. Added references. The only thing I didn't add was the documented existence of petitioning for a suicide barrier (which the bridge lacks). Sadly, presumably because it is the highest bridge in North America, some people are attracted and even travel very long distances to jump from the New River Gorge Bridge, which is now properly listed as a Suicide bridge. 7&6=thirteen () 11:52, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
What I didn't add as it would be WP:OR, is that I personally knew a lady who drove 600 miles from Michigan to kill herself (and her unborn child) on this bridge. She just stopped her car, sprinted to the edge and leaped off in front of a police officer. Very sad. 7&6=thirteen () 12:13, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

For what it is worth, I think it is a great little article. If they had complied with WP:Before this hassle could have all been avoided. If this article is deletable as not notable, then 80% of the encyclopedia would have to go, too. 7&6=thirteen () 19:21, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Which metaphor would you prefer? Over the years two of my dogs have separately encountered Snapping turtles, and they learned to avoid them. I think Cassie got her nose bit. In any event, I liked the whimsy. 7&6=thirteen () 14:30, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Albert Bierstadt - Lake Lucerne
On the last incident my wife (she thinks she's Steve Irwin) had pulled a snapping turtle out of Lake Huron, and the dog got too close. She (the dog) has learned her lesson, and smelling a reptile she now gives all (e.g., snakes and frogs) a wide berth. The turtle was fine and released, and the dog's pride was the only casualty. 7&6=thirteen ()

  • Pulling the tail of dangerous animals is not a life-insurance. Hafspajen (talk) 16:10, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

She (and I) do that regularly. Frequently moving turtles off busy highways (we do try to put them where they are going, not where they've been). But snappers necks and jaws are very quick and hurtful. Not to be trifled with. 7&6=thirteen () 16:20, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Really? I mean, I never met any DANGEROUS turtles. Yet. Ours run away or withdraw into the shell. Maybe you need a landing net. Hafspajen (talk) 16:23, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
It's never that organized. They are big and strong and not grateful for the interference. They are unaware of their peril, and are (naturally) defensive. I see them often when I am in my Sea kayak. I always consider that to be a good sign. 7&6=thirteen () 16:27, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Quite so, it is always a good sign to be in a sea kayak. :)Hafspajen (talk) 16:31, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
And we have a crayon box full of kayaks. Three custom built wooden sit-in, two plastic sit-on-top. They are all great fun and each has its own personality. 7&6=thirteen () 16:41, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
  • What's the difference in their personality? Hafspajen (talk) 16:47, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

The three wooden kayaks all have built in retractable skegs. Very controllable under all but the worst conditions. Once you've tried one you will never go back to a rudder. One of those is smaller (my wife's). One is built as an expedition boat, although it is long and fast. The third is very long, narrow, and very fast, but inexperienced paddlers would deem it to be temperamental, tippy and dangerous. And it would be for them.
The plastic boats are shorter surf kayaks. They turn on a dime, but one has to work to control them in wind (and know how to do it). But they are open and comfortable in the right weather, but too cold early and late in the season.
Of course, we always wear wet suits (dress for the water temperature, not the air temperature) and life jackets (those who merely carry them have no idea how impossibly hard they are to put on when you are in the water). It's not a question of "if" you are going over, but "when." It is no different than wearing a helmet when bicycling, skiing or roller blading. 7&6=thirteen () 17:02, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

  • Much impressed! Do you think that the gondoliers are having something in common with this kind of watercraft? Why not get a Newfoundlander by the way. They save people from the water all the time. Better then life jackets. Hafspajen (talk) 17:41, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
We had two Leonbergers. They were wonderful water rescue and guard dogs. And were certified Therapy dogs. Alas, they went across the rainbow bridge. But we have two wonderful large (smaller than Leos) dogs that keep us very happy. One is a real swimmer, a mixed breed that shares many traits with Golden retriever and German Longhaired Pointer. He has webbed feet and a double coat and a fancy tail. Wyatt is both a retriever and hunter (hard on the vole, mole, mouse and rat populations). Cassie is about the same size, and is Border collie smart. Single long-haired coat. Fancy tail. Although she doesn't look it, she is extremely fast—when she drops her ass down and stretches out like a Cheetah she has a whole 'nother gear. Her basic approach is to tell everyone and everything that they are in charge, and then tell them what to do. She is Wyatt's boss. 7&6=thirteen () 17:51, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Giggle. Cute dogs, those. And Cassie is the boss, you say? Is she older? Hafspajen (talk) 16:04, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
Cassie looks like a Leonberger, but scaled down. However, she has a wasp waste and very strong rear legs, built almost like a greyhound but with long hair and a black mask. She will be six this coming January (she was a puppy when we got her from the shelter). We got Wyatt two years ago in November from the shelter. Based on his dental condition, they said they thought he was 3 or 4 at the time. I always doubted that based on his behavior. I thought he was younger than that. And he had been abandoned behind a mobile home when somebody moved away. The neighbors fed him (not sure how long) and I don't know that he had good food. Eventually, someobyd decided that was all crazy and turned him in to the shelter. 7&6=thirteen () 16:12, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Have he been abandoned behind a mobile home? Hate this kind of behavior. Dogs are not old couches, they have feelings and they are ... almost human sometimes. Lucky him that you took care of him, poor thing. Hafspajen (talk) 16:32, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
He's landed in the butter fat. He has dog friends (a pack), people friends, three houses, miles of woods and unspoilt shore line, regular trips to the park. Life is good, NOW. 7&6=thirteen () 18:23, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

How ping works

The notification mechanism will notify User:Example any time you put User:example, User talk:Example, or any template such as {{U|Example}}, {{ping|Example}}, or {{reply-to|Example}}, PROVIDED you "sign" your message and provided that it is on a Talk page or a Wikipedia: page. It's unclear what happens if you "re-sign" an existing message by over-writing the existing signature - I don't think the notification is sent in that case but I could be wrong.

Editing an existing message to change User:Example to @Example: is not supposed to send a second notification.

For more information, see Wikipedia:Notifications and mw:Manual:Echo#Technical details. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:48, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

I like your approach of solving the problem rather than doing other stuff (discussion things ad nauseam). That we we build an encyclopaedia. Fiddle Faddle 00:09, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Endless debates are a bore and frequently get in the way. OTOH, I am in favor of process.
But this was an exigent circumstance — a ticking bomb set to detonate tomorrow — that needed to be defused now, not after we all confer, debate, insult, consult, and perhaps ultimately arrive at consensus. 7&6=thirteen () 00:13, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

We now seem to have entered a minefield. All we have to do is to make use of good content, which believe this is, to drag a few interested folk into the depths of Wikipedia who would not otherwise have got past the front door. Fiddle Faddle 12:57, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
You have a point. But all this amounts to at this time was a failed attempt. He tried and had an equipment failure early on. He was not the first disabled sailor to circumnavigate in any event.
We know he crossed the Atlantic both ways. It does not have the 'asterisk' of his circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland. The doughnut here is to get the DYK, and niffnawing over wrong details is 'the whole', which is counterproductive.
We should find something that is factually correct, and not just hype or wishes. 'If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.' 7&6=thirteen () 13:10, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

More longevity-related problems

Hi 7&6=thirteen,

Just like at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarah Knauss (2nd nomination), we have more examples of editors nominating longevity-related articles for deletion when the best thing to do would be to have a single discussion on the project page (for example, this, this, this, and this). Just a few days ago, these editors were trying to delete biographies because "the information is better presented on a list" but now they want to delete the lists as well. If you have any time to look over this situation, it would be much appreciated. Cheers! -- Ollie231213 (talk) 23:32, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Sadly I have also been accused by the same user, Legacypac. I find it quite disturbing. --BabbaQ (talk) 23:33, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

User: Eeng said it best. And Legacypac wanted me to apologize to him. I said no way. 7&6=thirteen () 23:37, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Me too, I do not understand how the user can take a suggestion as an uncivil attack. To re-consider not adding a Afd template to an article not deletion worthy should not be considered uncivil in my opinion. Lol.--BabbaQ (talk) 23:38, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
I also exercised restraint. Some of the things I typed I chose not to save. It is not a good thing to respond when irritated or angry. WP:Bait has some wisdom. 7&6=thirteen () 23:41, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi there - how does Wikipedia deal with editors trying to push their own (non-scientific) views on to Wikipedia articles? I was very concerned by Legacypac's comments in this discussion where he is arguing that the biblical claim of Methuselah (supposedly aged 969) is a "stronger claim than more recent claims to long life". He also doesn't understand the concept of age verification or why it's important. Template:Did you know nominations/Abe Moffat

7&6=thirteen, I've just removed the above template from December 15, leaving Template:Did you know nominations/Alex Moffat (trade unionist) as is, since the Alex template is already being reviewed as a double hook. If Abe stayed, there's a risk that you'd end up with separate reviewers for identical hooks on the two templates.

If you end up needing to split it into two nominations, one for each article, by all means add a new single hook to Abe and restore the template to December 15. If Alex goes all the way as a double hook, then all you'll need to do is speedy delete the Abe template. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:06, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Seema Sonik Alimchand

Thank you for your edit at WP:Articles for deletion/Seema Sonik Alimchand. Unfortunately, "I agree with" recommendations do not receive much weight. WP:PERNOM says that comments adding nothing but a statement of support for a prior comment add little to the discussion. Participants are always encouraged to provide evidence or arguments that are grounded in policy, practice, or simple good sense to support their positions. As the WP:Guide to deletion#Discussion says: Always explain your reasoning. ... "!Votes" without rationales may be discounted at the discretion of the closing admin. Nonetheless, I do appreciate having my labours acknowledged. I see (above) that you do good work. --Bejnar (talk) 21:42, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind note. I understand your concern; "I agree with ... " has little content. I just thought there was little to add. As a lawyer I could say that the "argument of ___ are incorporated by reference as though set forth in full." But I was trying to avoid burdening a WP:PROD discussion with more of the same. FWIW, I don't give my support easily. My edit history will confirm that, and I think that who the editor is may be more important (sometimes) than the verbiage. I know its a very big community, but... 7&6=thirteen () 21:47, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Rubbish computer, Thank you very much.

Hi

Could you please take a look at user Legacypac and his mass removal of information on several pageant-subject articles. He also mass redirects articles on the same subject without consensus. Even though several of them have sources and should have been the subject of discussion and/or AfD. Atleast take a look. Special:Contributions/Legacypac. I also question the users AfD pattern on the subject, Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Gabriella_Brum, Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Tamara_Fazzolari just as a few bits of this pattern of nominating notable pageant contestants. Also [5], [6], [7] as just a few diffs of tantrums made by the users after I simply made !votes at AfDs concerning these subject. And I can give you diffs at similar attacks/tantrums directed at other users for a very long time back if needed. Just a thing like the unwarranted warning with underlining threats of repercussions if I did not remove a simple suggestion of not using IDONTLIKEIT at AfDs seems to be out of order. In this diff he removed a comment from me after he repeatedly had contacted me in a harassing way and changed it to appear as a usual discussion. I am not saying that the user is bad but the user is indeed in my opinion doing edits in mass production and attacks or contacts users in a aggressive way for simply stating an opinion at AfDs. He also removed a comment which is in his right within his talk page but still disruptive. But I dont know, atleast take a look. Regards,--BabbaQ (talk) 00:29, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

I had a client who worked for IBM at the time, and he got me the employee price. There was a Zeos, a Compaq (it was a "lunchbox" and I returned it real quick) and many Toshibas and IBM laptops. "If, at the time a nomination is promoted to the main page, its nominator has fewer than five DYK credits (whether or not self-nominated) then the nomination is exempt from QPQ." That's the rule. Hope that helps. 7&6=thirteen () 12:59, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! That wasn't the question. But leave it. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 13:01, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
Yogesh Khandke, you will only have to do one review per article nominated after the first five articles, which are exempt from the requirement. (You can always voluntarily do extra reviews if you want.) BlueMoonset (talk) 20:43, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Tourism in Brunei

Hi, will you become co-author for Tourism in Brunei to clear its DYK nomination? It is very old DYK nomination and once it was approved in good faith but later disapproved. I hope you are interested in tourism related topics. Thanks. --Human3015TALK  07:54, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

User:Human3015, Template:Did you know nominations/Tourism in Brunei was rejected and closed. Trying to resurrect it will involve getting somebody to reopen it. Not a foregone conclusion. You need someone to review it and someone to make the changes in the article to satisfy the DYK people. The article is only marginally sourced, and the latest complaint is a vague 'not good enough and it needs a rewrite' thing. It needs four things: to be reopened, a rewrite, a new hook (there isn't much in this article to begin with, and the likely hooks have been rejected), and a new reviewer. Trying to reopen it and satisfy them looks like a long hard row to hoe. I think this is a project I don't want to start. Sorry. 7&6=thirteen () 11:34, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Anyway, when I posted you above message that time it was neither rejected nor closed. But as that DYK is now rejected and closed then let it go. Lets focus on other DYKs. . Thanks.--Human3015TALK  15:56, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
42 years of practice taught me that it's just better and easier to get it right in the first place than it is to do 'clean up' work after the situation has gone to hell. Sorry. Onwawrd and upward. I'd be happy to collaborate on future DYKs. Ordinarily these should be NEW, since 5X can be problematical, or a trap for the unwary. See, e.g., Dragonmead. 7&6=thirteen () 16:02, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes, nice advice. Experience matters. Just saw your this rejected nomination. BMS is everywhere. Anyway, it seems that you are also interested in alcohol related topics. As you said we can collaborate on DYKs in future but if possible we can collaborate to promote any alcohol related article to GA status. That will be a nice experience. --Human3015TALK  16:21, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
The problem is that getting a GA is sometimes hard. And I am not always on the same page with the GA reviewer. I did not like their advice/requirements on Dragonmead. I am sure that they would cut a lot of information out of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky and I choose not to cut it down. It gets a surprising amount of hits, and I think the information is relevant. WP:Break all rules. I also thought we did good work on Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve, but the GA people would probably take a pry bar and an axe to it. So it is a process that I approach with caution. I don't like cutting relevant content (See Turtling (sailing) and the DYK that I chose to give up on. 7&6=thirteen () 16:31, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes, this happens many times. Many times we don't like to remove many things from article. My first ever DYK nomination was of Desi daru which was rejected. I did not improve article as directed by reviewers and anyway I was new at DYKs at that time. As of now I have 22 DYK credits, but I don't have any GA credit, I want to promote few articles to GA status, my dream is that my first GA should be alcohol related. We can still collaborate on any alcoholic brand maybe Jack Daniel's or Ballantine's to promote it to GA if you are interested.--Human3015TALK  16:49, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Important discussion regarding removal of FindaGrave links

I think they are useful and should be usable. Many times they are the only source for information on gravesites and cemeteries (which are usually linked in their articles about the palls). Often they have information and photos not available anywhere else. This is their business. I find it ironic that a wiki based organization like wikipedia sniffs at the 'unreliabiltiy' of FindaGrave. I don't see why they can't be seen as corroborative (and therefore cumulative) of matters that are already reliably sources. And I think that there use as an external link helps our readers. The need for the link and the reliability of any article ought to be done individually. An a priori rule throws out a lot of babies with the bath water. 7&6=thirteen () 16:14, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

It is amazing what you can dig up (no pun intended} on our Wikipedia ...
Tombstone tourist (otherwise known as a "taphophile", "cemetery enthusiast", cemetery tourists or "grave hunter" or "graver") describes an individual who has a passion for and enjoyment of cemeteries.[1] This involves epitaphs, gravestone rubbing, photography, art, and history of (famous) deaths. The term has been most notably used by author and biographer Scott Stanton as the title of his 2003 book and his former website[2] on the lives and gravesites of famous musicians.

All those pictures on images have copyright to them and can NOT be used for the article. Probably the best chance is if this Flickr image is lowered in copyright to "Attribution" only. Check on the Flickr image occasionally and see what happens. Seventy per cent chance he WILL lower his copyright. Then you can upload to Commons AFTER it has the appropriate license. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 15:48, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

I assume so. But it is not something I use much. Is this a trick question? 7&6=thirteen () 22:11, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
Nope! Not a trick question = a future lesson, that will come in real handy for you for future articles you edit or create. You are going to love it!! Now here is the real question -> how how did I know you didn't know about the "prtsc" function? Clairvoyant? -or- luck guess?? Ready for the first part of the lesson?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:21, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Part 1 - Find the key on your keyboard = where is it? color? --Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:34, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Part 2 - The key will probably be associated with another function. Mine (upper right corner above numerical keyboard) for example says "End" on top and "prtsc" on the bottom. BTW, "prtsc" means "print screen" = same idea as taking a picture with a camera by pushing the button that takes the picture. In my case I would use the "prtsc" function with the "FN" key = together, to be able to take a picture of the screen. This would be capturing whatever is on the screen. Then you can drop this into the Paint program.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:42, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Part 3 - Use the FN key at the same time as the "prtsc" key to take a picture of the screen. This captures the screen onto the PC clipboard, that you can then Paste into the Paint program.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:17, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
Try that and tell me what your results are.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:17, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Part 4 - Take a picture of Kızılada Feneri using FN+"prtsc" keys (together at the same time) from this website. The picture is copyright-free since it has the Attribution license on it. Most website pictures are NOT copyright-free. Paste into the Paint program. Use the Select function of the Paint program to select out just a cropped version of the Kızılada Feneri = CTRL+C keys at the same time. This places a picture of that part selected onto the clipboard. Now open a new file in Paint = not saving the previous Pasted version upon close to get the new blank file. Now "Paste" and viola, the selected part you did that is on the clipboard then appears in Paint. Save this as Kızılada Light onto your desktop. Now go to Commons File:The Gulf of Fethiye. Kizilada Restaurant and Kızılada Feneri.jpg. Upload your version under "Upload a new version of this file" and put as reason "Crop". I'll wait to see your results.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:57, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
This would be the same way to capture and take a picture, rather it is for Commons (copyright free) -OR- Fair Use. Fair Use pictures are usually some sort of historical picture of a person and put into his/her biography article (upper right corner). Fair Use can ONLY be uploaded directly into Wikipedia main-space, NOT Commons. When you upload a Fair Use picture, just use the template provided = it's easy!--Doug Coldwell (talk) 17:31, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Doug. I'll have to try this. But it will be a few days. 7&6=thirteen () 19:53, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

DYK for An Open Letter to Honey Singh

Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:01, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Radoljub Kanjevac

I wonder if the "book" added to the AfD page (and as a reference to the article) is in fact a wikipedia "reprint", as seems to be the case for all the Jesse Russell and Ronald Cohn efforts? We don't usually quote Wikipedia reprints as the source of verification of the Wikipedia content. Any comment(s)? FeatherPluma (talk) 01:19, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

The book is 156 pages long. So where is that lengthy content titled Radoljub Kanjevac in Wikipedia? 01:45, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Were you actually able to open the book and find 156 pages, or did you make the mistake of relying in good faith on the front page Google info, not noticing it says "High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles!" (their exclamation mark) ? All of Jesse Russell and Ronald Cohn efforts fool you by presenting huge page numbers, often by pulling in other Wikipedia articles that are "related" -- basically by using the pdf builder function of the Wikipedia article printer. So these entirely arbitrary page numbers make you think these are real books. But if you try to actually get the book you will discover the "book" doesn't exist on Amazon or on any print book sales site, and how there isn't an e-book either etc. At least this is the case as far as I know. I am sorry but I think you may have fallen for a reprint ruse. Amazon got rid of all of these rip offs from its list a few years ago, because it was the money front of this scam, but nobody ever got Google to delist the stuff. Run a google search of < jesse russell ronald cohn wikipedia > and take a look at what comes up, or run < inauthor:"Ronald Cohn" > or one for < inauthor:"jesse russell > (omit the carets). Or look at this [8], this [9], and particularly this [10], and notice "Bookvika Publishing, VSD, Book on Demand Ltd — automated print-on-demand books, content entirely sourced from WIKIPEDIA. Editor of Wikipedia article books." As far as I know, Amazon pulled all this crap off its sales list a few years ago because it was a scam. I'm pretty sure this reference is a damp squib. If you check it out, you may want to strike your AfD comment and remove the circular reference in the article. FeatherPluma (talk) 02:33, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

I only know what google tells me. I have no stock in the publishing, and no affection for Radoljub Kanjevac either. He is either notable (which should be ascertained WP:BEFORE trying to delete the article. 7&6=thirteen () 03:03, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

OK. I am being very nice, trying to help you. Maybe let's see if I can make things clearer. This "book" is a Wikipedia content reprint. Google says so. So this is not anything close to a reliable source. Relying on that one Google page without noticing that it explicitly admits this is Wikipedia content and without checking what the 156 page claim represents is an understandable mistake. Lots of people fell for this a few years ago. But once this self-referencing is pointed out, nobody is going to buy this crap rather than junking this "book" as a non-reliable source, and I have explained why. I will politely give you some time to assess this properly and amend or alter your AfD input if you chose (or not). I'm not invested in or against the article yet because I haven't fully assessed other possible sources. I was just explaining why I will undo your addition of this (useless) source. Best wishes. FeatherPluma (talk) 03:16, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

BTW, there is a Wikipedia prohibited link (because we collectively know this site is a scam) which you can discern if you join this head < http://www.infi > to this tail < beam.com/Books/radoljub-kanjevac-lambert-m-surhone/9786131364204.html > : make one url by linking the "fi" at the end of the head to the "be" at the start of the tail so you have an 8 letter word, which will run infobeam, then run the link in your browser. You will find that this "bbok" has the same problem. The great thing about this link to the "book" by Lambert M Surhone, Mariam T Tennoe, Susan F Henssonow is you can explicitly see the large red circle telling you it's... Wikipedia reprints. 86 (sexy?) Wikipedia reprinted pages, for shame. And YET, it's for sale for $46 and some (!!!). And even better, there's a preamble of the content. Woops, you will observe that it is 100% identical to guess what? Yes, Wikipedia, self-same page we are talking about! I am not picking on you, just trying to explain why this type of recycled content doesn't work. I am sure you will be able to sniff this scam for yourself in future. By the way, that butterfly you have fly in here on this page is freaky cool. Can I nab the code for it? Me like very muchly. Good luck. FeatherPluma (talk) 03:49, 22 January 2016 (UTC) P.S. Reach out

Because we have had different views on the merits of potential sources for the Radoljub Kanjevac article, I would like to reach out to you and convey my appreciation for your expression of your viewpoints. It my pleasure to listen to you, and thereby refine and sharpen my own insight. Wishing you all the best for 2016. FeatherPluma (talk) 14:46, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

To keep the AfD page from getting cluttered, but picking up on what you said there, I will say here that I also "feel strongly that WP:Before is the preexisting hurdle that must be spanned before these deletion discussions are initiated" (emphasis added). This is in the guideline. My sense is that a deep enough probe is sometimes not done. For example, foreign language sources are permitted. My only hesitancy in my search strategy for this person was the worry about scripting, but it turned out his name, in the sources that we do have, has no special non-English characters (e.g. š or ĵ or Ӂ, Ӟ, Ӫ and so on). If I find any of these characters in the "first" search (or if it's a language I know enough about to pop in the likely alternates -- e.g. Polish/Swedish/Greek - to some extent anyway, Span/Port/Fr/Ger/Norw for sure -- this betrays my origins in Western Europe haha ) I then rerun the search with the variants. (Off topic commentary, I am presently struggling with a wobbly article that may have some German language adequate sourcing. I am working that project pretty deeply before I push the article to AfD, or hopefully (!) salvage it.) Sorry to take up your time. Onward with another task. Happy editing. FeatherPluma (talk) 15:46, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
I have just noticed that the nominator may have omitted providing notification to the original editor (who may, however, be inactive). I have completed that now. So, for transparency, I placed a detailed "Procedure note" on the AfD page. I have pinpointed where the 3 references in the article were from originally, but using each of their own search engines returns messages such as "Strana nije pronađena" -- page not found. I think it is reasonable to conclude that these 3 refs were most likely a brief police report or comment, and filler content from 2 local Niš newspapers. Only one editor ever added sourcing to this article, which you probably would agree is a possible problem when the editor seems from other edits to have an interest in the local news. FeatherPluma (talk) 17:32, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
You may well have lost interest and moved on. But I have obsessively been scratching away at the article. I realised that a could force the search engine to use Serbian Cyrillic as its site name searcher, and I did some other tweaks, and I found some citation replacements. So about 60% of the text is now referenced properly. I am going to come back to reassess notability in a day or two, to get some neutral objectivity on where it now stands. I am still not sure I can save this one but I am giving it a go. FeatherPluma (talk) 03:20, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
You are full of pleasant surprises. You really did earn the sweet treat. I wasn't kidding, and you verily took up the challenge. 7&6=thirteen () 03:55, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
I have corrected my input at AfD. It turns out the scripting issue I had initially discounted was crucial to a successful search strategy. Despite the misleading initial search results, this article is in fact above the notability threshold, most certainly by number and quantity of coverage in WP:RS, as well as subjectively, but quite reasonably, in terms of encyclopedic relevancy versus trivia. I came across [11], a huge 2003 Serbian police crackdown on organized crime that accompanied a state of emergency after the premier was assassinated [12]. I will see if I can work it up in the next few weeks as a new article on en.wikipedia, Operation Sabre. I have enjoyed interacting with you on this AfD, and I reiterate my appreciation of the torte and your collegiality. FeatherPluma (talk) 20:22, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

I am intrigued by the state of emergency and the crackdown. I was pleased that you and I worked toward and came to a consensus when we started on opposite poles. Ironically, we were on the same team all along. 20:31, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Query, GA Review of Gabor B. Racz

Hi, I've had a GA/N ready since Aug 2015, it is #2 on the list, and I was hoping to get it reviewed. It was converged upon last year by a few members of Proj Med who went to the extreme of delisting it because of a couple of minor citation issues and what they felt was "puffery" so those issues have long been addressed, and the article is stable. Can you spare a bit of time to take this nom or refer it? [13] Atsme📞📧 12:21, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

I cleaned up the article on Gabor B. Racz. I know zero about this subject and am hesitant to jump in to a GA review. 7&6=thirteen () 12:43, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Thank you much for the tweaks - any idea on how I can get the attention of a reviewer who is familiar with BLP reviews and who wouldn't mind taking on a relatively easy one? Atsme📞📧 12:56, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Cottalango Leon

Hi. As you were pretty good in writing up the description of the DreamWorks Image Review System in the Rahul Thakkar article, I was wondering whether you might be interested in doing the same for the Sony Pictures Imageworks Itview system in the Cottalango Leon article I created yesterday. You will find that I have given many good references where Leon describes the Itview system. You could use these for help. Also, I will be adding much more to the article in the next couple of days (like Early days, The 2016 Academy Award sections), but if you want to add anything, please feel free. I would be nominating it for DYK in the next couple of days with you mentioned as one of the chief contributors if you might want to edit this article. I'll also be sprucing it up for the GA review in the next fortnight. Thanks. Xender Lourdes (talk) 04:32, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

I am not finding any sources concerning Sony Pictures Imageworks Itview system. I need a starting point. I'll keep on looking. 7&6=thirteen () 22:45, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Leon's interview in The Times of India; look at the answer to the 5th question. There's also this piece from Leon's college, this description of itview from Sony Pictures (go to 3.6.3.4), this interview with Itview's production head (see the answer to the 5th question), and this too (search for the term itview) that contain some good descriptions of itview. There's also a lovely magazine called "American Cinematographer" which describes itview as a 3D imaging software. You can download the edition here. You're the best judge. Xender Lourdes (talk) 02:18, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Will look at it tomorrow.. 7&6=thirteen () 03:41, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
I've done a few things in the meanwhile. One, in the Rahul Thakkar article, I've moved your note to the main article wordings. This is because I've nominated it for GA and your description was being marginalised as a plain note. So gave it more space within the article. It also helps in the final GA review. Additionally, I've restructured the Rahul Thakkar article preparing for the GA. Finally, I've written a lot in the Cottalango Leon article, but have left space for your description of the itView system, as that would form a very critical part of the article. You could include it in the Career section within the paragraph where Leon is said to be developing the system. Thank you in advance for the valuable help and thank you for initially changing the wordings of the Rahul Thakkar article as that not only improved the Rahul Thakkar article, but also provided the structuring for the Cottalango Leon article. Time frame

Hi, 7&6 - well, on the 6th I asked Bluerasberry if he needed me to do anything further with the Racz article, and so far he hasn't replied to my question. He must be busy in the RW. I realize there's no set time frame for a review but 7 days is usually the norm. The Racz review started on 1/29 so we're looking at 10 days, and I've got a couple of other articles going in for GA, one possibly for FA and I'd actually like to start doing some GA reviews. I have no clue what I should do next. I didn't think Racz would be a long and/or difficult article to review. Any ideas? Atsme📞📧 01:13, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

You were using the wrong ping.  :Bluerasberry is the right one. I think that should help. 7&6=thirteen () 01:31, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Atsme, Maybe User: Psychiatrick could help with the review, since Bluerasaberry has withdrawn from the effort. Just a suggestion. 7&6=thirteen () 12:58, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
Thx 13, but I got it covered. What I'm not sure about is how to fix the mess it created on the TP. I s'pose he has to fail it and hopefully will explain why so it will show up as closed on the TP. Reviewer quitting in the middle of a review is a new experience for me but I learned from it so it's not wasted effort. Atsme📞📧 16:50, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Introducing redlinks

Good morning. I was thinking of reviewing some articles at DYK after work today. I'm curious why you introduced redlinks into Carl Edgar Myers with this [15] edit? I haven't researched the redlinked newspapers, etc., so I don't know if each of the redlinks will meet notability requirements, but that aside, at least the first one, Herkimer Telegram, has a Wikipedia article, The Telegram (Herkimer), so should have been bluelinked. Commonly, we don't redlink items in references and now there's a sea of redlinks in the ref section, so truly, I'm baffled by the edit, though I'm sure it was in good faith as you are a seasoned editor. :) Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 15:41, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

"sfn"

Two quick points.

  1. Unless you're going to repeat references to the same book over and over again, you don't need to switch to the shortened footnotes. In fact, in citing what is essentially a dictionary, you can just list all of the page numbers together in |pages= in one single footnote.
  2. You appear to have mixed up a few details in the expanded version of the cite, which is best given as:*Romig, Walter (1986) [1973]. Michigan Place Names: The History of the Founding and the Naming of More than Five Thousand Past and Present Michigan Communities. Great Lakes Books. Detroit: Wayne State University Press. ISBN 978-0814318386. (Note, only one ISBN is needed as the 10-digit and 13-digit versions are essentially equivalent to each other.)

Phineas Stearns

Hi, 7&6=thirteen. Do you think I could start an article on Phineas Stearns based on this source: http://www.bostonteapartyship.com/phineas-stearns ?

I'm not seeing much else, so I'm unsure if he is sufficiently notable based on his participation in the Boston Tea Party. Kirk Leonard (talk) 20:08, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Have to find more and better sources. Otherwise, WP:GNG and WP:One event will shut this down and it will be deleted, I think. However, I am sure there is more out there. Start an article in your sandbox and mark is as a work in progress. Then we can find better sources. 7&6=thirteen () 20:14, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. There must be lots more about him, given his accomplishments, so I'll start that in my SB and keep looking. Kirk Leonard (talk) 20:59, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
How do I mark it as a work in progress? Kirk Leonard (talk) 21:08, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Draft. 7&6=thirteen () 22:12, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

I started it in my sandbox. Should I move it to Draft:Phineas Stearns? Kirk Leonard (talk) 22:20, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

It's up to you. See Help:Userspace draft Some call it a spear, some call it an arrow. 7&6=thirteen () 23:50, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

How's this look: Phineas Stearns/Draft? Do you think there's enough now to avoid getting deleted (Francis Samuel Drake mentioned him by name), or should I dig some more before moving to article space?

Reported IP

@7&6=thirteen: Hi, May I ask why you reverted my report "Edit warring/ content dispute" to Administrator intervention against vandalism? (Mona778 (talk) 18:20, 6 April 2016 (UTC))
Mona778 Huh? Not aware that I did. Please clarify? Might have been an edit conflict? I've never knowingly reverted anything at WP:AIV. 7&6=thirteen () 18:24, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
@7&6=thirteen: The issue is resolved. The IP would be blocked for a week. So I guess it might have been removed after a block was issued by an administrator, I am correct? By the way, thank you for your quick response. Have a good day (Mona778 (talk) 18:41, 6 April 2016 (UTC))
I don't know. The bot also consolidates redundant reports, and it does that automatically. they get moved. And if they block someone it gets removed. WP:AIV is a hectic place. Sorry for any discomfort I may have caused, even if inadvertently. 7&6=thirteen () 18:47, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Why should you be sorry for something you didn't do? And Thank you so much for the Dobos! That's very kind of you. (Mona778 (talk) 19:03, 6 April 2016 (UTC))
OK. I try not to make waves over things that are inconsequential. The problem with typewritten communications is that they can seem unduly harsh, no matter how well intended; this is all supposed to be a collaborative effort, and if some extra respect greases the wheels I am on board with that. 7&6=thirteen () 19:14, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Did you add the request for WP:Sandox? Just felt suspect as "IPs persistent vandalism. Needs REVDEL. Gross. NOW." doesn't sound like you. Also, I did say I'd teach you how to make a request correctly if you had to make another request. You're doing it right but you miss out * {{pagelinks|article here}} which comes under the header. We need that for the links and it enables the bot to archive it once it's handled. See this thread on my talk page. I also see original research added, which was another reason I reverted. If the issue was simply because of one word, I would have simply fixed it. But the OR made me take pause. Your input is always welcome; I want to make sure that I'm doing what's right and that the quality of the article (and project) remains the top-most priority. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:46, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Not impugning your motives or methods. The OR problem could be papered over with a CN template. These were very conservative edits (IMO). Cheers! 7&6=thirteen () 13:54, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Cool deal. And I agree that the content isn't big enough of a deal that it had to be removed. I'll continue to work with the editor so that they'll walk away with some good learning and a better understanding of the relevant policy. Thanks again for your input. Hope things are going well for you and that you enjoyed your weekend. The workweek begins again... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:58, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
I agree totally with your approach. We need more and better educated editors. We gain some but lose many. Or so it seems. I added CN templates and removed the word "good" (although I thought it relatively innocuous. Not hardly WP:puffery. 7&6=thirteen () 14:01, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Revert

Hi dear User:7&6=thirteen, I note that you reverted my edit on the Mansehra page which I did in quite good faith, for the following reasons: (a) it contains material that is obviously false and made-up, with no historical basis whatsoever, it has been added by someone just for self-promotion of self and/or tribe or clan, a common problem in articles from Pakistan, many of which I cover and edit from time to time, trying to bring reality to these; and (b) it thus contains no references to support it, since it cannot be supported, being fake. If it's ok, I shall now remove this material again, thanks. If you think it should stay or be adapted, then please discuss. Regards AsadUK200 (talk) 12:33, 14 April 2016 (UTC)AsadUK200

Replied there. I said he didn't source his contention that the new and improved American Nazi Party has a relationship (or doesn't) with the George Lincoln Rockwell iteration. Whatever became of the old brand of the American Nazi Party and what if any relation does it have to the Dearborn, Michigan iteration? Is this a state secret? I have said he should just source it and put it in the text. All I did was remove any unsourced mention of the Dearborn, Michigan organization. I can't make sense of his responses, so I won't characterize them. I suggested reasonable solutions on the article talk page I am not POV pushing. Just want sources. Thank you. Remember the Raisin! (which should probably be a redirect to the battle). Unfortunately, a lot of the War of 1812 has been forgotten or obfuscated. Interestingly the King George III article doesn't mention it at all, even though this was a do-over for him (he was king in 1776, too!) Do-overs don't go well — think of Gulf War I and Gulf War II. 7&6=thirteen () 21:33, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
It could be a pun, but it isn't. This was a rallying cry for war, not unlike Remember the Maine! See Battle of River Raisin. 7&6=thirteen () 21:42, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

I need some assessment help on Nathaniel G. S. Hart

I recently posted asking for a WikiProject Biography/Military reassessment on an article I created, Nathaniel G. S. Hart. The editor who reassessed it for WikiProject Biography/Military changed some of the other WikiProject assessments. Could you please assess it for WikiProject Michigan? I would post at the Michigan assessment page but those posts seem to be a couple years old. Thanks in advance, Shearonink (talk) 03:55, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Shearonink It's an easy "B", I think. But if you want a WP:GA you have to invoke the process. What do you want me to do? 7&6=thirteen () 11:12, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Oh, I hadn't dared to think of a GA... I was just thinking it didn't deserve C's across the board (especially since I fixed the citations-needed issues and found more refs). I just can't review what is mainly my own work, give it whatever you think it deserves. And thank you for answering my post, greatly appreciated. Shearonink (talk) 15:20, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
PS - OH and...you redlinked Gales & Seaton. SO I thought I'd see if it deserved to be redlinked. "Curse you Red Baron!" Yeah, the firm definitey is notable...holycow, mentioned in 200 WP articles, run by two men who already have WP articles, etc., etc. Don't know when I'll be able to get to it but thought you'd like to know I'm going to work something up. Shearonink (talk) 15:20, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
The referencing will need to be tweaked up. Can't do it today, but will work on it in next couple of days. I would prefer to go with SFN and complete the citations. Bells and whistles! So my creating a red link for you to work on is the least I can do. {:>{)> 7&6=thirteen () 15:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Shearonink Done. Fixed the references. The only conceivable imporvement is to go completely to SFN and do a list of sources, but that is not a B class requirement. Did the reviews. Congratulations. 7&6=thirteen () 20:12, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Pardon my ignorance but what is "SFN"? Oh, and I figured out what/who "Lossing" was. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 21:00, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
I guess it's a type/style of referencing? Gawd, I can't keep up with all the different styles, gives me a metaphorical headache. I'm doing well just to stay with the automatic Cite- templates. Heh, I still want to know exactly what SFN is... Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 21:15, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
I just put SFN into American Nazi Party. I endorse the format but decline to go to the party. 7&6=thirteen () 21:30, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

I sense a pun in here somewhere but can't quite sort it out. Carptrash (talk) 21:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Yes, that was a pun. I guess I don't see eye-to-eye with Mr. Lincoln and Mr. Rockwell. That is George Lincoln Rockwell, not Norman or Abraham Lincoln. My editing of that article should not be taken to endorse their views. 7&6=thirteen () 21:45, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Good.Carptrash (talk) 06:21, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
I think the citations are done now. As complete and well formatted as I can do at least. You should think about WP:GA, in my opinion. 7&6=thirteen () 14:40, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
Ok, will think about it. I'm not used to the sfn referencing nomenclature but I can understand how some prefer it, the style is just so different visually for me. Thanks for all your attention to the article - Hart & Graves & all those men who died at Frenchtown/River Raisin...I just started feeling responsible to remember their names & their lives. Shearonink (talk) 18:59, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
I like the way it links to the citations and the way the sources are laid out in a different size font and in one place. It does take some work, especially if you link to the page number in the sfn citation (I don't know of other editors who do that, but it's a big encyclopedia). There are a lot of sources in this article. There are those who strongly prefer other citation formats. This then elides into WP:CITEVAR, so one has to proceed cautiously. Different strokes for different folks. 7&6=thirteen () 12:07, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Thank you

and I probably already mentioned it, but Mom, my reason for living in AZ died a week ago so your words of kindness arrived at a good moment. My edits of late have been painfully pedantic, but wikipedia needs that too. ciao, Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 19:06, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

I took a close look at this today. Your ref work on the article last year SOOOOO improved it. The dropping prices for his work are a 2-edged sword – they're now more affordable, but seem to be being bought up by dealers who anticipate future gains. There was a major sale of his works in March, close to 30 pieces, which did respectably, but nothing like a decade ago. Best, == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 19:40, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your edits at I.O.O.F. Centennial Building. I'm trying to find out if the building was actually designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1979 (as stated in the List of Michigan State Historic Sites in Alpena County), but I can't find online sources proving that. Could you give me a hand? Thanks again, --Markhole (talk) 20:11, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Take a look at the National Register of Historic Places Registration Form I just added as a reference. I have not parsed through all 79 pages, but I would guess it has the information you seek. "National Register of Historic Places ,Registration Form" (PDF). National Park Service. November 13, 2015. p. 8. Retrieved June 4, 2016. 7&6=thirteen () 21:34, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately the form does not mention the designation (I have read the whole document...), which pretty much confuses me. By the way, the form was already among the references—it's where most of my information came from... Markhole (talk) 22:23, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
FYI, they are two different URLs and different documents (although perhaps the same basic form). You link to the State of Michigan and I linked to the NHRP. Differ on signatures and markings, at least. 7&6=thirteen () 09:46, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
I also note that Section 7, page 6 of the form has what appears to be a great 1903 postcard/picture. Would be a good addition to the article and to Commons. 7&6=thirteen () 09:57, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't get the difference between the two documents. I just added the 1903 picture to Commons (hope I did it right). Markhole (talk) 11:28, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

No harm, no foul. 7&6=thirteen () 11:31, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Nathaniel G. S. Hart & nested references

I am trying to move the previous "Name" section (about the wrong name for Hart in many texts) into "Notes". I want to nest the references but am running into some difficulty. PLEASE do not go ahead and fix the present issues yourself. I need to understand how to adjust the present issue so I really want to do it at the article. WOUld appreciate discussing it here on your page first.
The "sfn"/Harvard style templates work great but what I am trying to do is nest the Notes... I could go Wikipedia:Nesting footnotes Embedding references but I can'f figure out how to make all that work... Right now I have listed the refs outside the Note so they look all bunched up. Any help you could give on this would be great but again, I'm like a toddler on this score, please walk me through what is possible so I can wikicode it myself and understand it for next time. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 17:26, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Btw, I nommed it for a GA & have been working on improving it... Yay, just now found out it passed! Talk:Nathaniel G. S. Hart/GA1!!! Anyway, if you could help me work through the bunching that would be great. Thanks for all your help, Shearonink (talk) 17:29, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Create an efn-ua. Put the text between the pairs of double brackets of the "efn-ua". The follows up and put the references (or the "sfn") between the pairs of double brackets of the "efn-ua". Easy to do. I am not sure that is what you want, but I've taken a shot in the dark. Hope that helps. Congratulations on the WP:GA]! 7&6=thirteen () 17:50, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Take a look (edit) under the hood (or "bonnet", depending on where you are from) of Yank Levy. It is mine, and probably should be a GA.
But I've not pursued those much.
In any event, it is all technically there (except I did not use sfn). 7&6=thirteen () 18:22, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Here's another to examine, which uses efn and sfn and references within the efn. Tom Rees (Airman). I forget about having worked on these. 7&6=thirteen () 18:31, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Bernese Mountain Dog

Per WP:CATDEF, "Categorization of articles must be verifiable. It should be clear from verifiable information in the article why it was placed in each of its categories." You're welcome to add supporting information to the article and then re-add the category. DonIago (talk) 15:37, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Added references so it is WP:Verified by two WP:RS. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 16:22, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Awesome; thanks!!! DonIago (talk) 16:33, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
I have read the Molosser connection (over the years) in so many sources. I owned one a long long time ago and learned much about the breed at the time. Great dogs, except for the Malignant histiocytosis. Sadly, of course, these relationships always inevitably end one way or the other. 7&6=thirteen () 16:38, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I have a friend with a BMD and agree that they're great dogs. Can't have pets in my apartment unfortunately. :/ If you have the time and inclination, you might look into adding refs to the Molosser article as well, since it's not only unsourced but has been tagged since 2013. If that was in an article that fell under my attention I might consider dealing with the unsourced info one way or another. The list of breeds is of particular concern. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 17:12, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
I'll take a look. It's a loose category with wide spread origins (Himalayas, Tibet, Rome, etc.) and imprecise definition. Invading armies and populations brought their dogs with them, no doubt. Not to mention that dog breeding has mixed and matched with little regard to type and form. The activities of last half of the 19th Century are a good example. I also owned Leonbergers, so I know. This is in part an explanation as to how and why I choose articles to edit. 7&6=thirteen () 19:39, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Unexpected. Thanks. Wikiknowledge is like manure. It does no good unless you spread it around. 7&6=thirteen () 22:12, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
and right off the bat, here is another arcane reference question. How can we learn if CP did the work at the Alpena County Courthouse. Gotta be, but . . ........ Carptrash (talk) 14:06, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
To me, it looks like Corrado Parducci's work. I would like to see an attribution to him. But I don't know a source for this. Probably the NRHP nomination? Time and place and style are obviously right. Documentary? 7&6=thirteen () 13:15, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
I put in the NRHP numbers into the article, but I can't find the documents on line. 7&6=thirteen () 16:03, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Alpena

I live an hour south of there. They do not have a Sports Authority. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 19:56, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

I am 35 miles south of there. And maybe it's a Dunham's? I accept that you are right and I erred. change it, to make it right. It is in the same line as the Home Depot, and west (across the street) from the Goodwill. 7&6=thirteen () 19:59, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
That's an MC Sports, and it used to be a Staples. Dunham's is in the mall. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:01, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
"MC Sports". Retrieved June 10, 2016.. You are right. Good catch! 7&6=thirteen () 20:03, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Re: Award for 100,000 edits

Thank you for the acknowledgement!

However, I'm afraid I don't necessarily see a whole lot of meaning in such a milestone per se, I also don't use Wikipedia:Service awards, and it seems you were the only person who noticed this. So while I am indeed happy that another random Wikipedian found something to be happy about with another random Wikipedian, I don't think it's significant enough to display on my user page, and it runs the risk of encouraging WP:editcountitis :) I hope you don't mind. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 11:50, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Joy [shallot], Hey, it's your WP:User page and you get to do with it as you will.
Indeed, I have a user box that says that edit counts are only one measure, It is a simple easily understood quantitative measurement, and ignores entirely questions of quality and efficacyy.
This user believes that a user's edit count does not necessarily reflect on the value of their contributions to Wikipedia.
And I agree also that the number itself is recognized only because it is a simple one (all those zeroes) and gets into six figure. Rather like having an Odometer turn over.

After reaching the maximum reading, an odometer or trip meter restarts from zero, called odometer rollover. Digital odometers may not rollover.
It is relatively rare. And truth be told, in the grand scheme of Wikipedia and your edit history, your 100,000th edit is insignificant. And no more or less important than any other of your edits. In fact, your first edit was the beginning of your journey and avocation, after all. Further, as of this date fewer than 500 wikipedians achieved that mark.
All that being said, it is a memorable mile marker that was earned through a lot of long term effort. Your cumulative contribution is not a flash in the pan. It is appreciated. 7&6=thirteen () 14:38, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

In Basket of deplorables please put a footnote behind the sentence you restored. Then it will not be a problem with BLP policy. I don't disagree with the sentence itself.Borock (talk) 15:49, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
