Queensland government articles

Yes, there is a lot of updating needed on Queensland government articles. Some of the responsible Ministers have not been updated and some still need name changes. There are links to epa.qld.gov.au and now derm.qld.gov.au is out of date. As far as I can see updates have only been done on an ad-hoc basis. - Shiftchange (talk) 09:17, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Sounds like a job for a bot! I did a search for "fisheries.qld" and couldn't find any. There are ""dpi.qld" though, It appears that simply changing "dpi" to "daff" does not work, - 220 of Borg 10:47, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Re Jessica Yee

See the IP's most recent message. I've emailed emergency about it, and I'm really having a hard time not believing it's a troll, but better safe than sorry. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:15, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Concur Ian.thomson. I added a message and lk to Subjects contact info page on IPs talkpage: Wikipedia:Contact us - Subjects which has info-en-q@wikimedia.org for contact. (and have just added it to Yees' talkpage too). Is that best email for this issue? --220 of Borg 02:03, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
When I was at ANI, there's a message saying to report threats of violence there, so it seemed the best choice at the time. Are there other options? (For reporting threats of violence that is, your actions were also a good idea). Ian.thomson (talk) 02:09, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Your action seems correct, I assume you Emailed to emergency@wikimedia.org. This contact is also noted at the top of Wikipedia:Responding to threats of harm (shortcut wp:EMERGENCY). I went to the Yee talkpage expecting a message from the IP there per their last edit summary, but appears they meant their IP talkpage, so I posted there. Then after being offline a while, came back and as they had been blocked, I posted to the Yee talkpage too. --220 of Borg 03:31, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Re: User:Momsagainstterrorists editing

Thanks a whole bunch for the heads-up. It looks like we have a WP:SPA crusader going here, possibly, though they did add at least one helpful extra citation. I followed up your comment on their talk page with an agreement and a little clarification in my own words, as well as reverted the changes on RNC Welcoming Committee. I'll keep an eye on this one in case it becomes an ongoing issue. Keep up the good work! - Vianello (Talk) 06:29, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

No worries. Some user names just make you go "Oh, no" don't they! (try 'Suckmypen15123' or 'Robotic Autofellatiing Chimpanzee" -at least "truth" wasn't in their monikers).  I read your follow up comments and as you pointed out there is heaps of difference between a "Convicted Terrorist" and being convicted of "Gross Misdemeanor". 220 of Borg 09:39, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

The reality is that it is quite a terrible place, and that's part of why I feel the need to document it on Wikipedia. We've been doing a lot of investigate work, and I have primary sources, which we and others have now vetted (they corroborate) and made available online. If you've never looked into the Troubled Teen Industry, it's pretty shocking. It rocked me to my core, and we are not exagerating, Logan River is actually not the worst program kids can end up in. So, while I'm sure there are some positive aspects of the school, from the school's own perspective, there is little positive mention of it anywhere. We do note that their educational program is properly accredited, and that they are state licensed. The note about residential accreditation is very important, and relevant. It is also backed up by reliable U.S. government sources. Also, please check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN5hIcSIH78

Note that I am using a tablet to edit and this is my FIFTH attempt after making much longer and more detailed replies that then 'disappeared' somehow, I am therefore at my wits end and half crazed so I may be a bit terse. I started trying over three hours ago!!!!!!
* If the website http://www.shutdownloganriver.com/index.php/testimonials is a wp:self-published source and/or wp:original research then it is very unlikely that it can be used as a source.
  • Remember "it is a terrible place." is only your point of view.
  • Who are "we"?
  • Because of the severe editing problems I have had here please ask someone else for further help, I have lost all interest in this page for now. :-( 220 of Borg 02:42, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Invitation

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Lankiveil (speak to me) 06:33, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

World Point Academy.

I've taken it down, but as a hoax or test page. I can't find any evidence of its existence, and being founded in 1900 in Ireland by someone with what looks like a West African name is rather unlikely. Mufti Mansurul haque

Hi, thanks for message. It's quite common for people writing about themselves to put the text on their user page either at the same time as posting an article or when the article is deleted. In this case, another editor then saw the user page posting, moved it to a sandbox and warned that it shouldn't have been on a user page. At that stage, fairly routine, and the editor hadn't even created the sandbox version himself. However, creating a new account to avoid the deletions is sockpuppetry, and I've blocked the user.

In terms of actions that an editor can make, warning the user with Twinkle or similar, CSD tagging, or notifying an admin are, I think, all that's possible. Deletion, protection of the page title and blocking are all admin actions. CSD requests are normally dealt with within a day , but it's worth letting an admin know if there is a pattern of recreation which might be missed.

FWIW, the page title was also incorrect, "mufti" is a title and not a name. Thanks for your help, Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:34, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

A11 speedy deletions.

Hi. Thanks for patrolling new pages, but WP:CSD#A11 was not the right tag for pages like {{Horeisa]] and Hot Sandy Desert. A11 is restricted to cases where the article "plainly indicates that the subject was invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally" - e.g. "Flooble is a word invented by me and my friend Jackie". It was devised for cases which were not hoaxes in the sense of attempt to deceive, and didn't qualify for A7, but were obviously made up one day.

Horeisa etc didn't have the evidence that they were made up by the article author (though I expect they were), but they qualified for WP:CSD#G3 blatant hoax, and that's how I deleted them. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:05, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Both makes their own sense, but to specify the 'Immaculate Conception' instead of the generic 'conception of Mary' would be anachronistic, and attributes a modern dogma to a text and period when the conception could be immaculate, but was never the Immaculate Conception. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Helkaluin (talkcontribs) 15:19, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eric charles wilkinson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1414139/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. reddogsix (talk) 04:37, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

nice catch,

this. Dlohcierekim 00:27, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks,  . Bit of luck there, it appeared 2nd on the Special:NewPagesFeed . Though, to anyone who has seen the recent discussions about the issue, and any of the bogus pages it was rather obvious. The page name and odd "Caseey" spelling caught my eye, then the layout and nonexistent sources clinched it. (I thought it was currently at AN/I, but I couldn't find it there, hence I couldn't specify the sockmaster, initially.) 220 of Borg 00:58, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Daniel Bell (Australian swimmer)

Hello, thanks for your edit to this article, but I've partially undone it because FESPIC Games is by far the most common way to refer to the event in my experience; spelling out the acronym is like saying "National Aeronautics and Space Administration" instead of "NASA". Graham87 15:08, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for message Graham87.
Having never heard of the 'FESPIC' event I wouldn't know. But isn't it a good idea to 'spell it out' on first use of the term? I often come across acronyms that may be familiar to the creator of the page, but are not obvious to me. I wonder how many people don't know what NASA is? I am editing from a tablet which doesn't give me the pop-ups of linked pages that a laptop would, so I am more aware of this than previously. 220 of Borg 15:25, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Nope, because its expanded form is almost never used. I don't get popups of linked pages either because they aren't read by my screen reader (by personal choice), and I also hate It when acronyms are used where their spelt-out forms are just as common and less ambiguous (New South Wales versus NSW, for instance). But I think terms like the FESPIC Games, the FINA World Aquatics Championships, and the IPC Athletics World Championships shouldn't be expanded because their spelt-out forms are so obscure and unwieldy. Thank you for your message, I was also sent an automatic notification when they reverted me, but I hadn't seen it yet. I reverted their edit/s and may be at 2RR, but I recall if I am reverting 'vandalism' it's OK to exceed 3 reverts?
If you haven't noticed, an IP linked to SP tripled the page size by adding a huge number of unnecessary in-text links and also placed links in section headings. Please keep an eye on it if you can and I'll take the issue to wp:AN/I If I have to. Regards, 220 of Borg 11:50, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

I didn't realise that tagging it for translation would mark it as reviewed, though I had some suspicion it may have been promotional. Is that why you un-reviewed it? --220 of Borg 07:30, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
I thought that instead of just marking the page as needing translation, it would be good to get some reviewer who knows the language to actually see if it is a candidate for speedy deletion. Thus I unreviewed it. M. Caecilius (talk) 08:17, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
No problem, though it took me some digging to find the log where you unreviewed the page. Still have a feeling it'll end up being a promo piece. --220 of Borg 08:28, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Ducks scythe! (Swish!!!!) I think you undid a few of my edits there! I didn't look at the refs as I was 'fiddling' with removing the dreaded red Cite errors, which brought me to the page in the first place. Yes, he has been going around adding and linking 'Sunskull' to their webpage. He did it at Zoltan Bathory too, I removed that, but other text he added is unreferenced. Was also using WP pages as a refs, though I've told 'Kiss' that's not allowed.

re:Edit summaries

Sorry about this. On Chinese Wikipedia not many people use edit summaries, therefore I am still not too used to do that. I'll definitely try to use summaries a bit more.

Regarding the graphs I've deleted, the reason was already stated in the previous deletion. And since most of the other articles using these graphs are deleted (Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_military_dictatorships, Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_dictatorships, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of modern dictators in Latin America), I could not see why these graphs should not be removed.--Jsjsjs1111 (talk) 14:20, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Sunway Monorail

Erm hi, regarding the sunway monorail, it was demolished a few years ago and an elevated pedestrian walkway is built on it. I went to the monorails.org webpage's asia section , and unsurprisingly it was not found.

Kwong Tung Nan (talk) 11:57, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Keep in mind that personal knowledge is not a reliable source, so we need a source for that text, unless you are specifically referring to the external link only? If we had a title for the page at monorail.org we would have a better chance of finding it. I have tried, and haven't found it there.
If a link is dead it's better to mark it as such than delete it, then try to find it again, or replace it.--220 of Borg 12:16, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi 220, regarding this edit, you might be interested to know that User:Pigsonthewing is indeed the same person as Andy Mabbett. All the best, Wittylama 14:03, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

@Wittylama: You're not telling me a 'porker' are you?   Thanks for that, I was slightly tempted to link it, there not being that many 'Andy Mabbetts' about, I imagine. (and most definitely the first Google search result, hell the first 20 plus!) Should he be linked on the WP-in-residence page then?
Dictionary of Sydney eh? Maybe you can confirm for me whether Arthur Stace (Mr Eternity) was born in Redfern-1885, [1] or Balmain-1884? 220 of Borg 19:42, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
• I don't think this [2] or even [3] is 'Pigsotw' though.   --220 of Borg 19:59, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Certainly true that neither of those images is the Andy I know - although he does have an excellent beard! The link between user:Pigsonthewing and Andy Mabbett (editor of a Ping Floyd fan magazine The Amazing Pudding), is that Pigs on the Wing is a Pink Floyd song :-) Up to you two to decide how the linking should go!
With regards to Arthur Stace, both the ADB and the DoS say he was born in Redfern in 1885, and the 1884-Balmain claim in the WP biography is uncited so I don't know where that claim comes from. Wittylama 20:45, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Indeed uncited! I think DoS used ADB as a source. I might have to drop an Email to ADB for more info! Maybe Trove has a newspaper source? See Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board#Arthur Stace birthplace etc for 'dramahz' over the issue. --220 of Borg 21:04, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Article tagged for Notability

I am a new contributor to Wikipedia and just read this article http://searchengineland.com/open-letter-to-wikipedia-editors-yes-matt-cutts-is-notable-10216 and it seems that Wikipedia is not really following its own guidelines. Another example in this article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahul_Mewawalla You tagged the article for "notability." As a test, I used Wiki's notability guidelines and ran some tests - the subject has been featured in both Wall Street Journal and CNN, not to mention Forbes, FastCompany, TechCrunch, Harvard Business Review etc. I also did a Google News search and the subject comes up in over 20 publications and also ran a number of different other wikipedia notability guidelines tests that the subject fulfilled. So I'd request you to please do the same and see if you may change your judgement. If not, then please go ahead and lets just delete article per speedy deletion. @Willy81234: That is what the speedy deletion notice says. ARRC may be notable, but you need to basically 'prove' that. Right now there is only a link to the Advanced Rocket Research Center webpage. You need sources from other independent/non-affiliated sources. to meet wp:Notability (organizations and companies) and wp:Verifiability requirements. --220 of Borg 13:47, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello, 220 of Borg, I saw that you made a draft for a new article at User:220 of Borg/Kell & Rigby. But in this case, you haven't edited your draft for a long time. If you are done, please donate it by moving User:220 of Borg/Kell & Rigby to a Wikipedia:WikiProject Abandoned Drafts subpage (a participant may help). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Message for 87Stone

@87Stone: You may be interested that I have warned your antagonist with an "only warning" message, here, about their personal attack on you. What they said was totally unacceptable and has been reported by me to the 'relevant people'. If they repeat it, or anything like it, a block is very likely (if not earlier). Andhra Pradesh Capital city

Andhra Pradesh Capital City is part of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region, which is in turn a part of several mandals, of which Amaravati, Andhrapradesh is only a small town in Amaravati mandal, Andhra Pradesh. If i have deleted any references, you can restore them. But please dont create ambiguity, The andhra pradesh capital city and Amaravati are not seperate, amaravati is a part of andhra pradesh capital city, which will be renamed as Amaravathi seperately Tamilmalayi (talk) 11:55, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

@Tamilmalayi: I didn't say you deleted any references. When you change something like the name of the city, which it appears is not yet official, (in fact your sourced the 'city' hasn't been built yet), then you need to provide a wp:reliable source or even better several sources. Constantly re-adding that name, as has been done by several new editors can be seen as wp:Disruptive. Be aware of wp:edit warring. This issue should be thoroughly discussed at Talk:Andhra Pradesh Capital City, not reverted constantly.
You have been editing here a few days, you would be wise to take the advice of others have edited for several years. 220 of Borg 12:41, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

RFc for major restructuring

I have started a RFC at List of Islamist terrorist attacks. The RFC is about restructuring of the article. Seeing that you contributed to the article recently can you be kind enough to give your input at the talk page. FreeatlastChitchat (talk) 13:14, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
