Jack Dean (born 7 March 1993), better known by his online alias JaackMaate, is a British YouTuber, internet personality and podcast host based in Norwich, England. He is best known for his video commentaries and comedic videos, as well as hosting the Spotify exclusive Happy Hour Podcast alongside Stevie White, Robbie Knox and Alfie Indra.

Career

edit

Dean created his main channel in October 2008, primarily uploading rant videos about things he disliked. His content evolved over time to feature commentaries on others in the YouTube community, as well as prank videos and occasionally vlogs.[2] He started the Happy Hour Podcast in 2018. As of November 2020, he has over 1.37 million subscribers and 160 million views. His channel mainly consists of video commentaries on internet culture, reaction videos and prank videos.

Dean initially rose to fame through his rant videos, eventually reaching 100,000 subscribers in 2013. His most notable videos from this time included an 8 part series titled 25 things EVERYBODY HATES, where he talked about things most people disliked.

Dean started rapidly gaining subscribers in 2017, when a video titled ZOELLA'S £50 ADVENT CALENDAR | HONEST, BRUTAL REVIEW went viral. The video is Dean's second most viewed video of all time, with over 5.7 million views.[3]

In December 2018, Dean got into a Twitter argument with singer Ellie Goulding, after he criticized her guest performance on the fifteenth series of The X Factor. This lead to fans joking about a boxing match between the two, and some mainstream media coverage. Dean released a YouTube video addressing the drama, which received over 1 million views.

Around this time, Dean also started the Happy Hour Podcast alongside co-hosts Stevie White and ImAllexx. The podcast has gone through a number of co-host changes, with the current podcast being hosted by just Jack and Stevie. The show has had a number of notable guests, including comedians Ricky Gervais and Jack Whitehall, singer Liam Payne, and internet personalities DanTDM, KSI, and Belle Delphine.

In April 2019, Dean revealed that he had appeared on the UK reality TV show Big Brother in 2012 as a 'Guinea Pig'. He was part of the group who entered the house before the series began, still being recorded performing tasks within the normal format of the show.

In May 2019, Dean started a new YouTube series titled Rank Bank where he reacts to 'YouTube's worst content creators'. Oli White and JayStation are among the most notable people mentioned in the series, which has received over 9.8 Million views all together.

In February 2020, Dean created a short documentary titled Hunting Greg Paul, where he attempted to find and kiss Greg Paul (the father of Jake and Logan Paul) at the KSI vs. Logan Paul II boxing match. The video also resulted in the creation of a song, titled Greg Paul produced by Alfie Indra.
