Color codes

edit

Hydrogen is often referred to by various colors to indicate its origin. As shown below, some production sources have more than one label with the more common listed first:

Colors that refer to method of production
Color Production source Notes References
green renewable electricity via hydrolysis of water [1]: 28
blue fossil hydrocarbons with carbon capture and storage CCS is an experimental technology [1]: 28
gray or brown or black fossil hydrocarbons often via steam reforming of natural gas [1]: 28  [2]: 10  [3]: 2
turquoise thermal splitting of methane via methane pyrolysis [1]: 28  [3]: 2
purple or pink nuclear power via hydrolysis of water [3]: 2
white refers to naturally occurring hydrogen

Muschner (2020) comparison[1]

A June 2020 editorial in Nature declared the original CovidSim codebase meet the requirements of scientific reproducibility.[2] Pretty daft!

DICE model

In 2020, modelers from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) reported a rerun of the DICE model using updated climate and economic information and found that the economically optimal climate goal was now less than 2.0 °C of global warming — and not the 3.5 °C that Nordhaus had originally calculated.[1][2] The PIK team employed current understandings of the climate system and more modern social discount rates.[3] This new result therefore broadly supports the Paris Agreement goal of holding global warming to "well below 2.0 °C". Their revised AMPL code and data are available under open licenses.[4]

Spreadsheet modeling

edit
  • status: not sufficiently resolved to add

Spreadsheet projects face special challenges, particularly those with multiple developers, because support for revision control and code and data auditing is generally poor.
