edits to ferdinand marcos page

the ferdinand marcos page seems to be written from the point of view of a marcos loyalist. either that or someone who was not inside the philippines during that time. it mentions some things but omits others. if a kid reads it he will have no context and might end up with the wrong conclusions. many of the information given have a slant towards the marcos side without explaining why that happened or this happened. i suggest you have it reviewed by the university of the philippines professors via e mail or any other creditable institution in the philippines like the ateneo or lasalle colleges. even the reason why aquino came back is wrong. aquino did not have to come back. in the article it said the reason he came back was his tenure as professor was over. the aquino family is one of the wealthiest families in the philippines. he did not need to work to live in america. i suggest you look at the speech he gave before he left as to the reasons why he came back to the philippines. the article on marcos seems amateurish at best somewhat leaning on the side of the marcoses who have hired many internet experts for his run for the vice presidency.if you are looking for a court case that have been decided to verify the information written then you will not get any verification. you might as well write that he is a saint. many of the stories are already forgotten by the current generation who did not live through it. remember hitler and stalin, they were never prosecuted in any court. what we know of them comes from the stories told by those who lived during that time. from the eyewitness accounts of the horror the people lived through. are you allowing wikipedia to propagate biased information which does not explain the other side?Nixon your own president accomplished many things but he is still remembered today by many only for watergate. on the paragraph of marcos' death the article even says he left 90 percent of his estate to the filipino people and the cory aquino government refused. this is an unverified fact. laurel is the vice president who plotted to oust the gov. through a coup d etat. zobel is a golf buddy of marcos and one of the richest men in the philippines during the marcos era. if he was really giving it away the sons and the daughters would not be listed in the panama papers as owning huge wealth through various holding companies. many of the philippine people are stupid just like many in the states who elected trump. there are still many marcos loyalists most of them in the extreme north where he had his home town and in which he poured money during his presidency to develop. all they hear are the good things and never the bad. your article seems to be written by one from that area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.190.90.222 (talk) 01:22, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Jordan Horowitz

Hi Oshwah,

I am trying to edit events regarding Jordan Horowitz and the Academy award incident. The original content was written with no neutrality, and tried to portray Jordan as the person who resolved the issue. Please read the cited source (4) for clarity. The current page states that Jordan rushed to grab the correct envelope from Warren Beatty, and this was proven to be completely false. Warren Beatty was provided with the wrong envelope to begin with with (do any web search and you can see). The wiki appears to blame Warren Beatty for the mistake.

629 changed to 630

As I said, I made the change to make the article consistent with the page regarding the previous king, and also with itself. Ardashir III's page says he died in 630, not 629, and the article itself says Shahrbaraz was killed only 40 days after usurping the throne. From 27 April 629 to 9 June 630 is a lot more than 40 days.

Was I being scammed?

Hello. I know nothing about how Wikipedia works but I was contacted by someone who said they would help me create a Wikipedia page. I get a fair amount of publicity so didn't think much of it. I just saw that you blocked Tropical Animal..looks like he was the guy making it. I was just trying to figure out if he was scamming me. (talk page watcher) Hi Jomac10126. I'm not sure if anyone can say for sure whether you were being scammed. Although "paid editing" is not something which is expressly prohibited by Wikipedia, it's not really something really encouraged because it can quickly lead to more serious problems. All editors being paid to edit/create articles are required to formally declare such a thing on their user page as explained in Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. As long as a paid editor does this and is able to edit in accordance with Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines, they should be OK. Problems only happen when the editor-in-question fails to follow relevant Wikipedia policy and makes edits that draw attention to themselves. In serious cases, the account may be blocked to prevent any further disruption. At the same time, there seem to be a number of "paid editors" who have no problems complying with the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use and are able to contribute productively to improving the encyclopedia.

As to whether there is any point to hiring someone to write a Wikipedia article about you, I guess you can only answer that one for sure. Wikipedia is a collaborative editing project which does not require any special qualifications to participate. Anyone anywhere in the world can edit/create articles as long as they do so in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines. Articles, etc. are neither owned by those who create/edit them nor the subjects they are about, so article content can be be removed/revised just as quickly as it is added. When there's a dispute, editors are expected to try and resolve things through discussion and by establishing a consensus. Subjects of articles are expected to be Wikipedia notable for a stand-alone article to be written, and those which are not may be nominated/tagged for deletion at anytime by any editor. In other words, there is no 100% guarantee that any article which is created today will still be there tomorrow, next week or next year. If you feel you are notable enough for a Wikipedia article (see Wikipedia:Notability (people)), then try asking for assistance at Wikipedia:Requested articles.There are number of editors who simply like creating new articles, know how to properly do it, and are not in it to make money. Hello I am very surprised to see that you removed what I did write about Julian Quintart. I think that what I did write was neutral. I only related a few things that Julian did in 2016 and early 2017. I did link to article from some newspaper or from article on google. I did cite my sources. Can you tell me what was not neutral ?

Hi Oshwah,

My name is Joe Kane, one of the Depute Head Teachers at Notre Dame High School in Glasgow. I tried to change the web address link for our school on the wikipedia page and received a message from you to say that it had not updated.

Is it possible to request that the wikipedia page be updated to only include the link to our new school site.

• I read the long version but it's not clear to me. I don't see a difference, of course, between the images, but more importantly I think you're talking about deletion of the first two or three edits, not revdeletion. Drmies (talk) 05:03, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
  • @Drmies: After explaining to them what they would have to do to certify that they own the copyright and can release the image to us, and after explaining what a free license entails they did not want to release the first image for modification (which would have made it unacceptable). So I asked them to upload a new one in its place to preserve the file talk page explanation and history (in hindsight I could have just moved the file talk page to whatever new upload name they put it at but an admin action would have been required either way). Since they refused to allow a free license on the original upload it has to go. Delete, rev'del, whatever works. It can't be visible. --Majora (talk) 05:07, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

I decided to address to you as I noticed, that you made a contribution to the article Flag of Worcestershire. I used this symbol in the design of Worcestershire Barnstar, created for the WP:WORCS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Worcestershire When I learned, that such project exists, I became very interested, as I’m planning to drive to the Archaeological sites in Worcestershire, make plenty of photos around and then — start the article about Archaeological findings of Worcestershire. supposedly my IP is blocked

HI, I was doing a search for an article and got a "message banner" telling me I had a message.

It says that I am blocked because of vandalism to two articles I'd never heard of and apparently the only article I did ever edit (was to fix vandalism) the IP for my fix says that that IP is also blocked. I am very confused as I don't recognize the other articles attached to the IP address I know I actually used. can you please help?

(talk page stalker)It appears you use a dynamic IP address. The warning on your talk page was just that: a warning. It appears that someone using your IP address had vandalized Wikipedia enough to warrant being blocked. Blocks of IP addresses are almost always short term. The message about not being able to create an account is somewhat misleading: the account it references is an internal, technical account used to track activity on the site, and what it means is that you can't edit. The best thing to do would be to actually go through the process of creating an account with a username and password. This will attribute any edits made while logged in to that account, instead of your IP address, and allow you to get around any blocks that may be applied to your IP address. Well, your IP is assigned by your Internet service provider. Check out Dynamic IP address for more info. Basically, it's quite common for ISPs to force their customers to share and re-use IP addresses, as it allows them to have more customers than IPs. As far as creating an account goes, your IP is not currently blocked (unless you're referring to a different IP than the one you're using), or you wouldn't be able to comment here. Even if you were blocked, that won't stop you from registering an account. We don't want to punish you just because that guy down the road from you who has the same ISP keeps vandalising the project. If you weren't getting the confirmation email then either the email is being flagged as spam by your mail provider (in which case, check your spam folder), it's being rejected by your mail server (in which case you're SOL until you make a new email address that uses a different server), or your may have typo'd the address. Insertion of Dylan T Rocks on Dylan Thomas Wikipedia page

Hello, My name is Julia and I don't understand why you think the details that I added are inappropriate for the Wikipedia Dylan Thomas page. I notice on a lot of similar pages that there are similar links to films/bands/etc. I believe that people interested in Dylan Thomas as we are (since I am Welsh born and bred) would be happy to hear that his name lives on in music.The band are passionate musicians and about Dylan Thomas otherwise why would we base a name on him.It's with the utmost respect that is shown for the poet and it's a way of educating young fans of the band exactly who Dylan Thomas was....in my view one of the most important and exciting poets in my life time.Dylan himself was full of Welsh passion rarely found in other countries although I realise that he didn't speak Welsh as I do not myself. Perhaps I should leave the fact out that we are now based in West Sussex because perhaps that is confusing.

I'd also be grateful if you would explain who you are and why you have authority to remove items added to Wikipedia. Excuse my naivety and blunt words but your help would be invaluable. Sent with kind regards, Julia

Mariehsanders - I understand that you're new, but you cannot change the birthdate on an article of a biography of a living person without a reliable reference proving that this is the correct birth date (and then do so again after being asked not to). Uploading an image requires many things; most importantly, you have to know and understand Wikipedia's copyright policies and guidelines (especially regarding the use of images and files). I highly recommend that you read these documents and understand them thoroughly and get assistance with the process before attempting to upload any files and use them. Wikipedia takes copyright violations seriously; don't put yourself in a position where you might violate them. If you have any questions about these policies, please let me know. I saw in their history for that article that the user had deleted the AFD tag more than once, but I got sidetracked and didn't end up checking that the user had also removed past warnings and that mine reverted back to a level one... sigh... Hi Worldscape! The reason I deleted the article was due to Wikipedia's guidelines on speedy deletion. You can ready the guideline here. I also saw that you added back the tag multiple times yourself? Dylan T Rocks

Hi Oshwah, Thank you for your reply and forgive any seemingly impatience on my behalf. I've read the notability details and I see where you're coming from. However,there was only one Dylan Thomas and is only one Dylan T Rocks. (not counting Bob Dylan who also took his name of course!)Even 64 years after his untimely death we wanted to name our band after him..That's an incredible feat. Bob Dylan was a different era and close to his lifespan so no surprise there really but 64 years later signifies his importance is still so relevant. I know people like his figures in Under Milk Wood.....His insight and writing is powerful and tear jerking! Don't you think it's important to know that the man still has such a place in today's society and that any celebration of his life is worthy of mention however small and insignificant it seems? Wikipedia is full of the stuff! But free speech and all that should prevail and I still believe it has a place on Wikipedia simply because he mustn't be forgotten!We're working hard to keep him alive and passion and lyrics are just poetry with music... Fairyland Park

I see that you restored the edit of an IP editor who has been editing the articles of various closed amusement parks to describe them as "abandoned". Most of the amusement parks that this editor has edited the articles of, including Fairyland Park, do not meet this criteria, as there are no remnants of the parks left on the property that they once occupied. If a property is being used for a new purpose, by new owners, it does not meet the definition of "abandoned". The property that Fairyland Park once occupied, is now occupied by Alphapointe (an organization serving the blind and visually impaired), and a police station. Its property is occupied, not abandoned. Not all former businesses, be they amusement parks or anything else, qualify as "abandoned", yet this editor has been going through the articles of just about every former amusement park describing them as abandoned.--Tdl1060 (talk) 05:18, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

I saw the user's history and I do agree that the edits are without much thought and many are probably wrong in describing the park (and probably many others he changed) as "abandoned"... but it's not vandalism, which is what you warned the user for doing in response to that edit. I'd certainly endorse discussing your concerns with the user, and if this doesn't result in the change that is right, escalate the issue and possibly file a report at ANI. I wouldn't call this vandalism though; it's certainly good faith changes and by someone who has good intentions, but may be misguided and need to be educated. Hope you're having a good Friday. Thanks for the reply. I actually used uw-generic-4 (general warning for template series missing level 4). I debated using a lower warning level for disruptive editing, but I chose the template that I did because of their long history of being warned and being blocked for similar edits. I agree, that their editing qualifies as disruptive editing more that it does vandalism, but they are repeatedly adding factually incorrect material to a slew of pages. I have not reverted all of their edits, as some of the parks that they have edited the pages of do happen to truly qualify as abandoned. I have since left a note on the editor's talk page, explaining my problem with their edits. I don't mind examining their edits, and reverting the ones that are factually incorrect, as the subjects of some of these articles are pretty interesting. However, that is no reason to allow a disruptive editor to continue, and I do still think the IP should be blocked for repeated disruptive editing after final warning. Happy Friday! Such a sad day! My eyes have been opened now that I realise that Wikipedia isn't what I thought...That one person(whoever that is Oshwah) has such power over the inclusion or deletion of valid information is astounding and I have lost respect for the whole concept. You are right of course not to include us in so many ways but also its disheartening to know that censorship is still rife in a world of so called freedom and free speech. In my 60 years of life on this planet I'm still constantly surprised and saddened by mans control over another man and the power to silence is huge.My cynical outlook is always being tested and found wanting.The decision makes me wonder what else is being kept from people.Nothing really changes Oshwah.(rant over because there's always a bigger picture!) I wish you luck too in an ever changing world that needs more compassion and openness. Thank you for protecting Oge Okoye article. The vandalism on the Wikipedia page is all over local news and blogs in Nigeria. Just Google search "Oge Okoye wikipedia", and you will see the results. Advice needed

Hello. I am seeking advice on what to do about an experienced editor who I noticed was making edits contrary to the guideline WP:NOTBROKEN, in many articles. I contacted them about it and their hostile response has been essentially that (1) NOTBROKEN is a bad guideline, and (2) I should stop obsessing over them and this guideline.

Even if NOTBROKEN is a bad guideline, I think they should observe it or try to get it improved or eliminated. Otherwise they are simply creating work for editors who follow guidelines. To the extent that editors pull in opposite directions, we have churning disguised as progress.

Hi Mandruss! I apologize for the delayed response; I've been very busy in real life and have only had a chance to catch up on my messages just now. I agree with the WP:NOTBROKEN guideline in general, as the act of making these changes (unless they're for reasons that are in the "Good reasons to bypass redirects" list) generally does have more negative effects than good ones should certain situations arise down the line. Sometimes it helps if you explain why directly on their talk page so that they might understand what the reason is for having the guideline in the first place. For example: Explain that if a link on an article is changed to be from a redirect to another article and instead to a direct link to that same article, that link would become broken if the target page is eventually moved without leaving a redirect behind. You could also add that unnecessary pipes (unless needed for grammatical reasons and for the sentence to make sense) does add a degree of difficulty for other editors (especially new or novice editors) to view and edit that article's page source -- no matter how minute the increased difficulty may be. Ending with, "Remember that, while we may be extremely proficient at doing so, others certainly are not.", would also drive the previous point across in a logical and well-mannered way.

The situation that you're going through is quite sticky (especially regarding the user who isn't responding to your messages and is continuing to do this). Is not adhering to this guideline and continuing to not do so despite being asked to stop considered potentially disruptive? I'd say "yes", but it wouldn't be something I'd jump on the block button unilaterally to enforce. I'd personally want to get the input of other administrators who have had the tools longer than I have, and ask them what their thoughts and past experience has been in regards to enforcement. I'm going to ping NeilN, Drmies, and Ad Orientem for their input regarding this situation. When there's a question being asked from an editor regarding the editing or interaction behavior of another, I ask myself "what should be done if someone were warned 5+ times about this and I was asked to do something about it". If I don't know or feel comfortable with the answer that I come up with, then I know that it's time to ask for the input of other administrators. Thanks for the considered response as well as the pings. As for explaining the guideline's rationale, I doubt I could explain it any better than it does itself, and I linked to it multiple times. It's pretty clear to me that the user understands that rationale but feels that it's less important than having a tooltip that displays the target article title. Again, my view is that it's counterproductive to have editors pulling in opposite directions (often without knowledge of each other's activity), and the guideline describes the direction that the community feels we should be pulling. ―Mandruss ☎ 00:43, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Uncovered an IP User whose commited nothing but Vandalism

It seems we have an IP User who committed nothing but vandalism on a number of pages. The common theme was copying information from an article's infobox and repeating it a number of times on most of the articles they affected; they were reverted as soon as they occurred. Hello, I don't understand how you can remove edits when I'm still writing them. Its 22.28 and you removed my edit at 22.22. Why?

If you look at this paragraph:

I would like to discuss the topic of The Shot, as we might have some misunderstandings or miscommunication as to what the topic entails.

As someone who has followed the NBA closely for over 30 years I do not take this lightly or with reckless abandon. Please understand I am not trying to assault or attack anyone. The fact is, on June 19th 2016 at approximately 10:30 pm eastern time, the definition of "The Shot" changed. Completely. Permanently.

Please consider this and I ask you to allow this new definition to be permanently installed on the wikipedia link for it.

The reason you're blocked is due to edit warring on the article, and also due to the fact that the changes you were repeatedly reverting back were disruptive. Urgent assistance requested re page National Indian Students Union UK

Hi Oswah,

I write to request your assistance with the page National Indian Students Union UK.

It appears that despite the page being protected for further edits, the user rd897 has modified content recently, I wonder why this has been allowed as noone else is able to edit the page. Given rd897 is the one who requested deletion in the first place, it seems incorrect to allow them to be the only person able to make edits.

Secondly, I do not want to indulge in edit wars, so wondering if you can help or help advise the right way of going about this. The user rd897 seems to have some sort of personal problem against the said organisation, which as you are aware has not spared them sharing private details of individuals on wikipedia, causing potential harm to them (specifically, user Mohanish Borana and Sanam Arora). This is made all the more concerning by the fact that they are using wikipedia to delete only two pages - National Indian Students Union UK and Sanam Arora, and that is their only contribution to Wikipedia. Should they be allowed to use a platform such as Wikipedia to take out what seems are personal issues?

Finally, regarding the actual notability of the organisation, please note the below:

1. There are 5 patrons of this organisation, including a former United Nations Secretary General (Dr Shashi Tharoor), a member of UK parliament (Rt Hon Virendra Sharma MP), Former Deputy High Commissioner of India to UK (Dr Virander Paul) and an Indian Education Minister (Mr Ram Bilas Sharma). These senior figures have joined the organisation to support its good work and further its vision.

2. There are multiple high profile supporters of this organisation, including its Honorary Fellows - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (international peace-maker and spiritual guru), Dr SY Quraishi (former Chief Election Commissioner of India), Mr Javed Akhtar (Member of Parliament, India and Indian cinema legendary figure) and Mrs Shabana Azmi (Social activist and Indian cinema legendary figure).

3. This organisation is the only such organisation which is repeatedly engaged in advisory services by the Indian Government on matters relating to young Indian students and youth in the UK. I hope the few points above are enough to prove the claims made by user rd897 that accompany their deletion request, as baseless:

This is a promo just written by the said organization and their representatives in a promotional way to big their own causes. Lack of notability for a small student group

a. This seems like a personal attack on the representatives of the organisation. Wikipedia should not allow its wonderful platform to be used to propagate such negativity

b. I don't agree that the article is written like a promo, but if rd897 feels that way, their view was respected and taking that into account user mohanish modified the text accordingly. rd897 reversed these changes instead of acknowledging that their views had been respected. Also note they didn't help in the first place by editing the page such that their views were taken into account. They simply want it deleted and are not helping either the cause of the organisation nor that of Wikipedia

c. A "small student group" is just factually incorrect. Small groups don't have presence in 5 countries - i.e. all 4 of the UK, and India. nor are they called upon by governments and supported by such senior figures. Even if the organisation was indeed "small", there is no reason for the great work being done by the organisation to not be shared with current, past and future Indian students who greatly appreciate all the work the organisation does to help and represent them. Note this is all done for free (as noted on the NISAU website). Not sure what "own causes" rd897 seems to be alluding to.

Hi Histbp1234, and thank you for leaving me a message with your questions. I apologize for the delay responding to you; life has been busy lately. It's perfectly acceptable for someone to edit an article that is protected if their account allows them to do so (so long as it's not done against consensus, discussion, or in order to edit war). It's also acceptable for someone to nominate an article for deletion but continue to edit the article itself and try to expand or improve upon it despite having done so. While there's certainly no harm or policy against doing this at all, it does give me concerns when I see that behavior. It tells me that there's a possibility that the editor isn't familiar with the AFD process, how to properly determine if an article should or shouldn't be nominated, and/or how to properly research and determine what the article's outcome should be (deleted vs kept).

Articles are typically nominated for deletion because the subject does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Many people don't realize (or tend to forget) two important things: Notability is not determined by article content, and notability is based on the existence of suitable sources. This means that notability is properly determined by performing outside research for references and reliable sources, and making that determination based on whether or not enough reliable sources exist. Simply looking at what's referenced or written in the article itself is not how notability is properly determined. If the article subject isn't notable, expanding the article or improving its content will do nothing to change this. So when I see that someone nominated an article for deletion and then spent time trying to expand and improve the article after doing so, it tells me that the nominator may not fully understand the process yet.

I see that you have many references listed in your message here, which is a great thing! I highly recommend that you take time to read Wikipedia's guidelines regarding the notability of organizations and determine if the article subject meets the guidelines or not. You're welcome to add your thoughts and determination to the deletion discussion. (talk page watcher) I saw the ANI thread and commented there too. I've been dealing with Fangusu for a couple years now, since the DJ Autagirl era and long before I was otherwise involved in SPI, but since I picked up the mop she leaves me alone. That's one of her patterns: she begs to be unblocked but never asks administrators. My opinion with regard to the USC ranges is that there are enough known long term abusers operating there that blocking the whole thing permanently would be a net positive for the project. You've got Fangusu, the end date change vandal (who I'm still convinced is a separate user), and at least one other troll who's been much more abusive and aggressive who I can't name at the moment, and all of them have been at it for years. I've written to the university myself a couple times but never received any response at all, and of course the Foundation doesn't care to intervene in cases like these. I don't know about the others but Fangusu at least has figured out how to force an IP reset, so if you block one of her IPs she's back on another one reverting her edits within minutes. Of course current policy doesn't support permanent IP range blocks, but I haven't hesitated to drop a large range block when one of the USC vandals shows up. I've done a /18 (16k users) up to a month, and /16 (64k users) for several days. T-Mobile is a different thing, and I'm not sure about IPv6 ranges. Hi Doug Weller! It's good to talk to you again! Oh yeah... there's no question that the two IPs were the same person... none at all. These two edits I found (1, 2) were what did it for me. And since the user continued edit warring on Horn of Africa with one of the IPs despite being warned, I just blocked both IPs knowing that they both were being used by the same person. I thought that this was a better way of handling the issue as opposed to protecting the article... especially if the disruption was just by one person and with clear behavioral evidence like that... :-). Melanie Chandra Birth Year

Hello- If I could seek your advice on the subject, I would greatly appreciate. There has been additional edits to this subject's birth year, and in this last edit, it looks both sources are still unreliable.

This first source cited "Minority Report" has a second article from the same publication "Melanie Chandra, 32" that directly conflicts. The second source cited [2] has dates within the article that do not add up: 2003 HS graduate (birth year 1985) and age 29 in Jan 2016 (birth year 1984). This as been an ongoing theme

Since these "current" publications and others cited, to support a 1986 birth year, have all been inconsistent from each other (by uncorroborated dates/numbers) or unreliably sourced (publications that allow self-submittal), I go back and cite older sources from 2000 [3] (sophomore @ 16) and 2001 [4] (junior @17), to weed out and prevent any erroneous "retelling" or editorial revisions.

However, I then find my references tagged for somehow being "outdated". I am not clear as to how a true telling of a birthdate can be outdated.

Short of citing public records, I'm not certain how to come about this in the realm of Wikipedia.

Hi BillieReed! Thanks for leaving me a message and for asking for help! I'll be more than happy to take a look and let you know what should be done. I agree that neither of the two sources that were provided state the article subject's birthdate (just her age). However, it also appears that your references don't do so either, and that the best we can do is narrow down an approximate range using different sources that are from progressively different publish dates (many of which are a few years old). As right now, there doesn't appear to be any reliable sources provided by anybody that specify the subject's date of birth. Because of this, I went and removed it from the article. It's important to keep Wikipedia's policies regarding biographies of living people in mind. We must reference reliable sources with content that we add to these kinds of articles -- especially if the content is potentially negative or contentious. I think this is the best solution for now; until a reliable source can be found and agreed upon in a talk page discussion, a birthdate should not be present. The Shot

Good afternoon,

I would like to discuss the definition of Wiki article "The Shot" as it is currently described on Wikipedia, against the now verified and accepted definition which supersedes it as of June 19th, 2016.

Until that date, it was accepted that "The Shot" was in fact the game and playoff series winning shot Michael Jordan took and hit in 1989 to lead his Chicago Bulls over the favored Cleveland Cavaliers. For all the following reasons: Jordan's climb to superstardom, the Chicago Bulls run of championships in the 1990s, and the fact it was over the then-favored Cavs - the sports world considered this the most monumental game winning shot in NBA history.

On June 19th, 2016, the definition of "The Shot" changed forever. That's not my opinion, that's a fact as accepted by sports analysts at every level. That night, Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers hit a 3 point shot to break an 89-89 tie in game 7 of the NBA Finals. This was in Oracle Arena against the 73-9 overwhelmingly favored Golden State Warriors. It was after they had held a 3-1 series lead which no team in NBA history had ever come back from. And it was the first major league championship for the city of Cleveland since the Browns won the NFL Championship in 1964.

I am requesting a serious discussion be brought to the people who are in charge of editing and maintaining Wikipedia, that the old definition of "The Shot" be permanently replaced with this completely new one. It has changed. Jordan's shot was nowhere near as important historically or within the auspices of the games themselves. His shot was only to win the first round of the playoffs, in which the Bulls would eventually lose to Detroit and not even make the NBA Finals that year. Kyrie Irving's shot won the championship.

As someone who has followed the NBA for 30 years and have amassed a collection of statistical and historical books on the league over the years I am willing to help in these discussions wherever possible. The definition has changed, and it must be reflected in Wikipedia.

I don't think you understand.

This is not about editing Michael Jordan's shot. The meaning of "The Shot" has been completely redefined. There is no addendum, no sub-notation, no reference between the two.

The entire existing article must be completely removed, and replaced with the new definition of Kyrie Irving's shot. I wish you would take the time to understand the importance of this. This is factual history, not something anyone is making up. That's not debatable.

Hi 179.7.120.95. Assuming that you are also 180.11.188.51, a consensus does not mean that everyone involved in the discussion agrees; it means that the majority of those involved agree. You should start a discussion on the relevant talk pages and explain your reasons for wanting to make these changes. You should base your reasons on relevant policies and guidelines and explain how the changes you want to make comply with them. You should stick to discussing the changes you want to make, and avoid commenting on other editors as much as possible. Once you've started the discussion, you need to be patient and see what other editors have to say. If your reasons are strongly based upon policies and guidelines, the other editors participating in the discussion will likely support you and the changes you want to make; if your reasons are simply based upon you own personal opinions, etc., then other editors are going to be less inclined to make such a change. It makes no difference how many accounts you create in how many days because Wikipedia does not allow sock puppetry under any circumstances. Once again, if you try to use multiple accounts to force through the changes you wish to make, they will all be eventually blocked by an administrator and you will find yourself unable to edit Wikipedia at all. I'm going to step in and help with the definition of consensus. Marchjuly gives great advice above, but I want to make sure that how we define consensus is clear.

Consensus is not established with just a majority decision (unanimous decisions, while not the definition of consensus, will almost always result in consensus... because everyone obviously agrees). Consensus takes into account a few things. First and foremost, it takes into account not the number of people who agree (although it is a factor that is used), but the evidence and arguments presented by those in the discussion. 10 votes for "Delete" (for example) that make poor, bad, or incomplete arguments to support their thinking will not overrule the one vote for "Keep" that makes a strong, logical, in-depth, and correct argument to support the user's view.

Consensus is established when there exists enough strong arguments in favor of one decision that also addresses or takes into account the concerns or arguments raised in opposition. This is important to understand, and it's something that many editors don't.

I do not understand your concerns. Pyrrhus was and is considered to be a skilled commander: he won several battles against Rome after all, and not accidentally. This is no more POV than saying any commander was skilled: the proof is in the pudding (I would write the same for Hannibal or Philip V). The specific mention of war elephants is because they are commonly held to be a major factor in his early victories, and Rome's eventual ability to develop tactics to defeat them helped them win the final battle of the war: worth a mention even in a summational lead. As for your objection to the Pyrrhic victory definition, I'm doubly confused, because that's what a Pyrrhic victory literally is. This is how a state wins most of the battles and loses the war.

It seems harmless to keep putting these 500/30 protections in the DSLOG, but I'm not distressed if the admin doesn't do it. So long as the 500/30 is recorded as being imposed per the Arbcom case in the article's own protection log. For example with "WP:ARBPIA3#500/30" in the edit summary. In my opinion it is more important to record all sanctions of individual editors in the DSLOG, because people delete sanction notices from their own talk pages all the time. More information on the protection itself can be found here. If you're looking for a way to see if an article is protected or not and what protection level its set to, simply navigate to the article and click on "Page information" (located on the left navigation, under the "Tools" section). To find the reason behind why a specific page was protected, just navigate to the article, click on the History tab, and then click on "view logs for this page". Thanks for your reply. I understand that the 30/500 protection is sometimes implemented on a page, so that new editors cannot edit. But not all pages relevant to the I/P conflict are set up that way. Even when they are not, my reading of the ARBPIA3 ruling is that editors not meeting the 30/500 rule may not edit in that area. Is there are process for formal notification (e.g. by an admin) in that respect? Wouldn't this be required as a step prior to an arbitration enforcement action? (Or is it enough for a regular editor to do it, as in [7]?) Hi Oshwah, would you be so kind as to look over this RfC here? This is based on recent discussion threads, suggestions made by other editors in those threads, including me, and choices based on those suggestions. An editor is suggesting that 'abort' votes, which I do not see in policy on RfCs, will shut it down with admin help. I think it is well thought out, considers the recent discussions and attempts to find consensus and offers the choices editors offered. I forgot to ask, could these 'aborts' be moved to the discussion section? If they don't like the choices, they can make suggestions in the discussion section, but I don't see where 'abort' should be allowed in the survey section, but I'm not an expert.
