When We First Met
When we first met upon the stream
Where the tadpoles swim
And the sandy shores gleam;
Where waterfall runs
Like a meteor-filled sky,
And the rush of the water
Echoes through, by and by;
Where the birds do chirp
And the deer do graze;
Where the drops from the sky
Meet the drops from the waves;
Where the sun-shaded grass
And the sun-stricken trees
Are all the same target
Of the unseen breeze;
I saw you amongst all the natural scene
And my vision became beauty-stained --
If vanished from view all the glorious green,
Equal wonder would still remain.
