Out line 3 reasons why their should be a link on Indentured Servitude in Virginia. Why Virginia needs its own separate link
Specifically there should be an individual link within the Indentured Servitude article focused on Indentured Servitude in Virginia. The first Indentured servants in Colonial America were introduced by the Virginia Company in 1619. The Virginia Company of London delivered slaves and servants over the atlantic. Due to the headright system in 1618 tobacco production was well established, therefore created a lot of available needed labor. A lot of the new settlers were flooding into Virginia because they were promised 50 acres of land. But when these new Indentured Sevants arrived in Virginia, majority of them died due to disease. And if they were not greeted by disease they were oftenly mistreated by their masters. This current articles touches on a lot of the areas such as Africa, Oceania and North America, but lacks the attention deserved to the Indentured Servitude in Colonial Virginia. Virginia was one of the main colonies where mass servants were sent. So much land and labor was needed, slaves and servants were sold again and again to attend to all of the land in Virginia. Colonist were granted 50 acres of land to anyone who could afford to bring in new immigrants to Virginia, these new immigrants were called upon to become indentured servants. Below are a few links that i believe can aid in improving this given article. These links can help refine this article by simply spending a fare amount of time explaining why indentured servants and slaves flooded to Virginia and what harsh experiences they were greeted with when arriving.
