Florida Gators

List of University of North Florida people

Hello, I saw that you created this new article and linked to it at University of North Florida. So as to not needlessly duplicate information, I removed the two lists (Alumni and Presidents) from the UNF article; usually similar lists are created and linked from the main article so as to cut down clutter and only list the more notable of the names. Because both lists were exactly the same, however, there is no need to list it twice. Personally, I don't believe that the list article is needed since UNF is so young and not terribly notable in terms of its affiliated individuals, but that's just my opinion. :) María (habla conmigo) 01:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Could I ask you to please stop adding fair use images to List of University of Florida people and similar articles as you did with this edit? Per WP:NFC this use isn't permitted. Virginia Spencer Carr Page

Jccort - thanks for the image place holder...it looks better than just a blank.

I'm new to Wiki and was hoping maybe you could help me out... on Carr's page, in the info writer section, magnum opus isn't showing up on the saved page, but is in the info. writer section on the edit part... any ideas as to why?

Too, any idea on why a wikipedia page could be searched on yahoo as "Mary Hood wikipedia" and show up one day, but not the next?

I guess it isn't all that important, really... I thought it was part of that info. writer box... so that it would be listed under genre...

I was having the same problem on the Mary Hood page. It's listed there in the info. writer box, but isn't showing up on the actual page between genre and influences.

Jccort - I also noticed that Alice Walker's page has the same issue with the magnum opus being in the info writer box, but not on the actual article page. Any ideas as to why... not sure if my earlier post might mean to you, no worries. If you know how to fix it, by all means, do, or let me know how and I can.

Jccort, thanks for your help. But I'm confused still. Magnum opus should be a title, like "genre" or "occupation" in those sections. For example, Magnum opus in Mary Hood's writer box should reference her book "How Far She Went"... in other words, her Magnum opus (or the work of what she is most known for) is the book "How Far She Went"? Make sense?

If you go into the info. writer box where you added Magnum opus, look at the line below... | magnum_opus = How Far She Went - that line should show on the main page, but it doesn't.

Therefore, magnum opus isn't a genre they are in, but rather a title followed by a work of fiction or writing they wrote.

Conflict of interest

Just because somebody may be a valid hypnotherapist doesn't mean that they don't have a conflict of interest when creating and editing their own article. George Bush or Barack Obama would have conflicts of interest if they were major contributors to their own articles. I'm going to put the coi tag back on the article, because it's true. Re:University of Florida Division of Continuing Education

I'm having slight notability issues with the UF DCE. It looks like another Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Undergraduate Business Program at Cornell University. Anyways, it'd probably be best if you kept a copy of this article in your userspace in case it does get AfD. • As I said before, your best option is to establishing notability via in-line citations from reliable third-party sources. I understand your viewpoint as well as your reasons to have an article in this division. However, you must also note colleges ("faculties" in UK) and other academic programs that had articles on Wikipedia that were AfDed. I'm not trying to nominate the article for deletion here, but it won't stop others from doing so. And to prove to you just what I'm talking about, please read what happened to the article I tried to create myself last year Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Florida Institute of Technology/College of Engineering. I would suggest you do something similar to what I did (group all of the otherwise non-notable colleges together and internally link the notable ones). Please let me know if you have any further questions. Let me make this clear, I'm not out to get you or to derail your WikiProject, just letting you know something's getting slightly "gray". I wasn't trying to single out the continuing education division either, it just caught my eye when I was looking at WP:NPP. I've been reviewing some of the other college articles you've created, and I'm afraid some of them have similar notability issues. Please see if you can establish notability of them too. New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. List of Florida State University alumni

Hello, again, Jccort. It would, I think, be valuable, or at least worthwhile, for you to continue the interchange we had earlier about notability and the List of Florida State University alumni. It only recently became clear to me that you had deleted an earlier discussion about notability from the article's talk page. You seem to have a proprietary feeling about the article, and are acting as guardian or gatekeeper in some way. I don't believe that it is appropriate to delete that kind of discussion from an article's talk page.

On a related point, may I ask why you edited the "notability" tag that I placed on the article? "Can potentially" means the same as "may", but just takes more words, while your apparent belief that supposed FSU alumni do not need evidence of that status is incorrect. Without an article covering the issue, anyone on the list needs references showing both notability and evidence that they attended the school. That is, after all, what the article is about. I will change it back, shortly.

Even with your close attention, I do not think it will be possible to keep the article as it now is, with many, many non-documented entries. I will certainly be happy to work with you to iron out these wrinkles, but without your input on the many entries to the list that you have made, it seems likely that many will eventually end up being deleted. That would be sad if they actually belong there.

Please do not read this as antagonistic. You are doing great work with regard to F.S.U., but some of the little details are important, too. Tim Ross (talk) 14:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
