Here is my response to what you wrote:

The Edge magazine is not alone in its harsh criticism of Wikipedia deletion and notability policies, in fact journalists universally condemn these policies. Wikipedia_talk:Notability/RFC:Reevaluation#Journalists I have yet to have an editor quote a positive article about these policies, despite quoting these journalists repeatedly on some of the most popular policy talk pages.

Hahnchen, these WikiProjects are often used as gathering places for editors whose majority "contributions" to Wikipedia is to delete other editors contributions. In otherwords, these editors behavior is the very problem journalists are describing. The only reaction you will get here are dismissive responses to your comments, as per above. For a more positive response, I suggest posting your comments on WP:Article Rescue Squadron.

Testing the complaints of another journalist about how Wikipedia is "ruled by bands of vigilantes who delete all new material without mercy or insight", PC Pro editor Pountain created a The Political Quarterly stub. The Political Quarterly is a distingushed journal. The stub was speedy deleted from Wikipedia within an hour. Pountain also reviewed the web 2.0 most popular webpages. After describing how tolerant Flickr, Digg and Facebook are, Pountain wrote that wikipedia is the "dark side running out of control [of Web 2.0]" and that "...It seems Wikipedia has completed the journey by arriving at an online equivalent of the midnight door-knock and the book bonfire..."

What sort of question is "why should this BE an article"? Because as the AFD concluded, there are significant secondary sources to support it as an article. It has to sources to stand alone, nothing else is needed. Copy pasting the article into Nintendo Software Technology just pointlessly weighs down the parent article, as if cancelled projects should be covered there, yet released projects should not. When having Project H.A.M.M.E.R. where it is was perfectly acceptable anyway. - hahnchen 20:17, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Magazine number question

I'm currently doing a collaboration to bring Thief: The Dark Project up to snuff, and I'm working on locating reliable reviews. PC Gamer, in this case the UK edition, is something definitely worth including. During my searches, I found this, which allegedly appeared in issue 66. However, you list issue 66 as being released in May 1998. These dates don't fit, because Thief was released at the end of 1998. Do you have any idea what the explanation for this might be, or how I might find the correct date? It'd be great to have that information for the citation. I do not Issue 66 of PC Gamer, only the supplement which states that it was published with the May 98 edition of PC Gamer. I believe I just guessed the numbering through looking at the nearest date, which was March 98. But if you take the numbering from Issue 73, which I can believe is correct, and work backwards - Issue 66 would be February 99. - hahnchen 16:37, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Asking because I noticed you had several of the issues listed up to a certain point. Zeno Clash permission

Hello Hahnchen,

I am a french user, also active in seeking permission for free video game screenshots.

If possible, I would like to have some details regarding your successful permissions for the Zeno Clash files, from ACETeam.

Indeed, I believe that knowing more about how other people managed to successfully ask for permissions would help me for future requests.

By the way, you might be interested in knowing that a french user, FR, has significantly expanded fr:Zeno Clash and plans to bring it to Article de Qualité (=Featured Article) Sincerly, Jean-Fred (talk) 21:09, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

The Zeno Clash developers are a small independent studio, and they were very responsive. It's a lot easier to get a response from independent firms as opposed to monolithic public entities with layers of governance.

I merely emailed Andres Bordeu, and explained to him what a free license entails and how they can be used on Wikipedia and by third parties. A few important points you should make clear, which should help sell the case:

• Not all Wikipedias can use non-free content - thus, if you want your screenshots across all languages, free use is best. (In the Zeno Clash case, I specifically mentioned that the Spanish language Wikipedia does not accept any non-free images - given that Spanish is the official language of Chile, where ACE Team are based)
• Non-free images must be low resolution. Thus, free images make your game look a lot better.
• Free images can be used in any page where relevant, and even for decorative purposes. This can increase exposure for your game.
• You can control what free images are released, and can use them to "sell" the best aspects of your game.

I think developers acknowledge that their screenshots are pasted everywhere across the internet without any permissions anyway. And so the release of a few select does no real material damage, and as pointed out above, can actually enhance their presence. - hahnchen 21:59, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

They normally can, but that (as well as sending wikipedia-e-mails) can be disabled if the situation warrants it, and that seem to have been the case here [1]. Earthquake refinery explosion image

Thanks for clearing it up from the mainpage - however, you may want to point your Commons admin powers over to File:Refinery_explosion,_Japan_2011_earthquake.jpg. You haven't fixed the problems, they're more fundamental than the changes you've just made. It's not comprehensive, you need to take a deeper dive into sources and come out with a more fully fleshed article. I've only just read the Retro Gamer article I sent you now, and you've not incorporated any of that into the article, even though some of its points are fundamentally important to the development section. It delves into Cecil's core inspirations for creating a Templar story, it sets out what they wanted to do differently to the competition (in regards to Monkey Island and "interactive movies"), his choices for characters and settings, the development budget, and his regrets over the PlayStation version (which would be a nice reflection in the reception section of the article).

Google also suggests that there is an Edge "Making of" feature too published ~May 2004[2] - contact User:X201 or User:Steve to see if they have copies. Also ask them if they have any reviews available from 1996. Contact User:Mitaphane (he may no longer be active) and ask if you can see the reviews in Next Generation Magazine that Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/Next Generation Magazine suggests exist (December 1996 & October 1997). I know it's not advertised well, and is very poorly maintained, but the Video Games Reference Library as linked does contain some useful sources that you can use in future for older games. You can always drop into WP:VG and ask for help if you need more.

I don't want to discourage you, because enthusiastic content creators are exactly what Wikipedia needs, as opposed to barely active snipers like myself. But featured articles need to be well-researched, it's criteria 1c. I suggest you withdraw the FAC until these issues are addressed. It may feel long winded after a previous FAC and peer review to say do it again, but my oppose has pretty much been the only review by someone who knows anything about video games. - hahnchen 22:57, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Mass Effect is a current generation title, so you should be good enough solely through online sources, but there might be useful nuggets in there.
