Uruguay in South America

All matches will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay. Two stadiums will be used: Estadio Centenario and Estadio Campeón del Siglo.

The Estadio Centenario was purposely built for the 1930 FIFA World Cup, and has hosted the 1930 final and all the matches of the 1980 Mundialito. The Estadio Campeón del Siglo opened in 2016, and it is, together with the Estadio Centenario, on the list of potential hosts for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, to which Uruguay has presented a bid.

Schedule edit

Draw edit

The teams will be subdivided in two pots:[1] the first will cointain the three American teams and the second the five European teams.

The eight teams will be divided in two groups, each composed of four teams, with the host automatically inserted in group A. No group will contain more than three European teams or more than two American teams. The winners of each group will advance to the final, the runners-up to the third place play-off, the thirds to the fifth place play-off, and the fourth to the seventh place play-off.

For television rights reasons, all the group stage matches of Argentina and Brazil will be played in the evening slot of 21:00 UTC+1 (17:00 UTC–3), and not in the afternoon slot of 18:00 UTC+1 (14:00 UTC–3). Hence it will not be possible to draw the two teams together in the same group.
