The Franks south of the Rhine regained independence in 289 when emperor Carausius of Roman Britain defeated the Romans of emperor Maximian. Carausius was an ally of the Franks. The area of settlement of the Franks was smaller than the area shown above, but they certainly inhabited in the Rhine estuary, where i live.
