Fearsome Critters

Fearsome Critters is the actuial term coined by the lumberjacks of wisconson. I do mean the article that refirs to the creatures themselves. Please note that they are not Cryptids, but fictional creatures that were made up to intentionaly to scare the new lumberjacks who joined camp, or to confuse gullible people they dont fit into cryptids very well and i would rather not mix them up. a reference to the name Fearsome Critters being coined by lumberjacks may be found in "the encylopedia of monsters" i have the book somewhere and il give the author once i find the book

yeah, i know all about the links i added most of them. This has been the hardest article to create for me, but i guess it is hard to create a whole new category that has yet to be referenced. keeping my fingers crossed oh, heres a wikicookie for the rewrite.

I always thought the villainous d'Argenson invented the Paris police. Just goes to show. For Irish kings, the man to speak to is User:Fergananim, who's sick at the moment and not very active, although he is around off and on. He has all the big modern books on the subject (or he has access to them anyway). For the rubbish I've done, I just bodged stuff up out of Frank Byrne's book and the CELT website annals. Grace Hartigan

You mean he's trying to draw traffic to his own website -- is that what linkspam is? But what if they're actually good useful links? I work at a library that has collections of a lot of artists' and writers' papers; if I link each of them to the information about our papers, would that be linkspam? And the NMWA is a non-profit (it's a real museum) so it can't be a money-making thing, right? Bookgrrl 03:34, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

When a user's only edits are adding links to the same website in myraid articles it is, by definition, linkspam. If that website has pertenent information, then that information should be incorporated into the article. Not a simple link. IrishGuy talk 03:37, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

pipe cat

Hi. Piping a category changes the the order the page is displayed in the category. The reason I changed the pages you worked on is because they are about people, and people are categorised by surname then first name. So for example Charles Kurtsinger would normally be categorised under "Ch". Piping the category changes this to "Ku" for Kurtsinger. Category:American jockeys is a good example of this. Notice Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey appears under "E" yet all the people appear under the first letter of their surname. So in summary, pipe a category link when you want to change the place where the page appears in the category. Cheers -- Gareth Aus 20:58, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Haha, yeah I'm trying to see if I can't make some kind of dent in it. I've been working on the Y's for a good couple hours. I went through and verified all of the bluelinks, just to make sure that they all work and go to places that are appropriate. I then removed all of those from the list (Be bold and whatnot). I did the same for the Z's a day or two ago, and hopefully I'll keep progressing through the alphabet (backwards, for some reason) over the next little while. --Gpollock 22:05, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Not much direct bot help, sorry...

Hi, saw your note on my talk page. There's not really a comprehensive reference anywhere to writing bots. I started by looking at the bots page, which has some links to useful software resources toward the bottom. I used Perl and the MediaWiki client, which has been okay but not great. Apparently all the cool kids are using the python bot framework. Some people make source code available (see User:Pearle for a bot that does a fair number of different things). Sorry I can't be more specific but it was definitely as "try as you go" experience for me. Setting up a local copy of MediaWiki was not hard and it was very useful for testing. Thanks for weighing in

at the delete vote on Gay ICP. You mentioned you "knew zip" about vandalism and sock puppetry, so I felt it would be best if I warn you: the editor who created the article Gay ICP (and several of his sockpuppets, ie., alternate online identities) have been vandalising the discussion by rewriting other editors' votes and comments and leaving their signatures intact, to try to make it look like they said the opposite. Fortunately for the defenders of the truth, page history is forever. ;) I only mention it because there's a distinct probability the editor will get a new account and vandalise your vote next time as well. Jonathan Scott (zoologist)

Hi Bookgrrl, You've left a message on my talk page and I know that I have copied the article from the BBC Website but I did it for a reason. Firstly if you look at the article about Saba Douglas-Hamilton you'll see that it was actually copied from the same page that I copied the article about Jonathan Scott (zoologist) from, you can check. Therefore, if it's not up to your stardards please do delete it. I can't re-write the article as my specialists are not about Zoology.

Re: User page reverts

Re your messages [5] [6]: You're welcome. It was rather sneaky vandalism. I checked his talk page and reverted the warning removal and warned him not to do that. As for the popups thing, that's Navigation Popups. It helps in my Recent Changes Patrolling. I spotted the vandalism to your user page because I saw somebody who wasn't you making a change to your user page. It stuck out and I checked to make sure it's not vandalism. Re - Will Labial (scale) ever be more than an entry

Hi Bookgrrl,

Yes, Labial scale will be more than an entry. It will have a snake's head image to indicate the location. It will have material regarding the shape and location on various families of snakes. Since snakes require extensive scale diagrams for genuine identification, it will be an article, albeit a short one. It will form part of a series of short articles on snake scales which will also provide a framework on which material regarding lizard, testudine and crocodile scales can be added. Hey 'grrl, since I mostly get nitpicks or complaints I appreciate the appreciative comment on Guicciardini (by the way, do they pronounce it "GweecheeahrDEEnee"?). I read his Ricordi a while back and figured that his Wiki article probably would be a spot I could contribute to. Almost everything I know about the Gweech and almost everything put in there (and it wasn't really much, just a few details) was from the introduction to "Maxims and Reflections (Ricordi)" the translation published in 1970 by U.Penn -- I got it cheap at some book store Web site. I don't know if it would help you in understanding The History of Italy, but the book is thin, interesting, and has a good introduction. The 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica article (the core of the Wikipedia article) is almost rabidly anti-Guicciardini, much different from the Maxims introduction. Are you taking this class as part of a history course or a language course?

Yes, local Connecticut stuff is mostly my thing, partly because I know Fairfield County. I'd love to see Wikipedia used as a resource by people in Connecticut to find out more about their own towns. One of the things I find fascinating is to click on "What links here" on a town page and find out the people who come from that town. I've also found it interesting to use Google Images searches to find old, no-copyright pictures and artwork about a town. best,Noroton 20:40, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion your initial action of reverting his delete of a user's comment was correct. Editing a user's comments is definitely poor form. At this point it's becoming an edit war with the back-and-forth reverts so I think you're also correct to bring in a third party opinion. Hatch Marks

Thanks for editing the Hatch Marks article I made. I've never done this before so I appreciated the help. Some of it was great, but some muddied the waters instead of clarifying.

The triangle graphic was great. I don't know how to add graphics, though I do make them often enough (I've made a butt-kicking thunderbird in vector format). The "point of change" graphic was where things got muddied instead of clarified. That's not a line graph. Envision a positive coordinate plane graph where a line moves up and down (drawing mountains) as it goes across the graph. Each line segment is straight, but points where the segments change direction are marked with | or x. This would be the kind of graph for sales (vertical amount) over time (horizontal). I hope that helps. Your graph isn't wrong, just not simple enough for a basic concept. If you could fix it or tell me how to fix it, I'd appreciate it.

I will have to edit the introductory paragraph. That got muddied. But it was a move in the right direction.
