Due to pressing work concerns, I'm currently taking a wikibreak; I have no idea when I'll be able to contribute at full capacity again. Feel free to email me instead, since I'll only check my talk page every now and then.
With regards to Wikipedia, a few things you should know about me:
  • I try to accommodate. I'm sure every personality type is represented here, and surely some people just aren't going to get along. I try to practice common courtesy, with Zen being the popular word to describe it; "Go with the flow". However, even the deepest river has a limit to how much crap it can flow over and still remain calm. But I do my best.
  • I'm not perfect. If I've done something wrong or offended you, please let me know — I most likely didn't even realise what happened! I'm mostly a friendly chap. See WP:AGF and WP:BITE.
  • I try to evoke discussion. I strongly believe in healty, vigorous debate as well as WP:CITE, so additions without motivation can sometimes be viewed under increased scrutiny, especially when I'm on patrol for vandalism. Without proper references and citations, there are times when it can be difficult to tell between fact and targetted vandalism, and then one tends to err on the side of caution.
  • I tend towards inclusionism. There are no storage issues on Wikipedia, but I agree with WP:NOT and Wikipedia:Notability.

Stellenbosch to bid for Wikimania 2012! edit

Hi de Wet!

The nascent South African Wikimedia chapter has decided to bid to host Wikimania in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2012. This would be the first Wikimania in South Africa, and would be a great advertisement for our country. Please take a look at meta:Wikimania_2012/Bids/Stellenbosch. If you can add to the discussion, please do. If you feel that you are able to do anything to help, please join the Wikimedia South Africa mailing list and let us know. Even simple messages of support are valued!

Best regards,

David Richfield

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:25, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re:Dutch-to-English

I would be grateful if you could check quality of google translation (my understanding - National Bank of Belgium agreed to distribute images of the banknotes it has issued using the same rules as euro banknotes) - please reply on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:BEL-500f-rev.jpg Bulwersator (talk) 06:48, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

WP South Africa in the Signpost edit

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject South Africa for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. –Mabeenot (talk) 06:44, 23 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Precious edit

South African collaboration
Thank you for quality articles, beginning with Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, for gnomish work for project South Africa, such as removing spam and redirects, for starting articles such as Black Economic Empowerment, Castle of Good Hope and Lobet Gott in seinen Reichen, BWV 11 ("this is my first bach, please go easy"), - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Oh wow, thank you very much :) I haven't been active in a very long time, but the gesture is appreciated! dewet| 15:13, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Think of it as lifetime achievements. I am in the process of making some Bach works GA, and looked up the history. Did you see that Magnificat grew even in two of them, BWV 243a and 243 (only the first by me)?
