Admiraal

edit

The rank of admiraal in the dutch navy is NOT reserved for the monarch. true, the last 2 people to hold the rank were monarchs, but there is no legal basis to limit the rank of admiraal to the monarchy. it only exists in wartime and could be held by any flagofficer when promoted. Check official website of the navy. www.marine.nl (also in english). anne claire 11:24, 24 March 2006‎ (UTC)Reply

Question about footnote, missing text

edit

This template includes the following, but no footnote text. Should there be text in this note? It's causing an error in the notes section on Royal Netherlands Navy#Notes, for example. Paul2520 (talk) 04:27, 2 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

<ref name=monarch group=note />
@Paul2520: it's supposed to read "reserved for the monarch" on the Ranks and Insignia of NATO Navies Officers page, but I think somehow it's no longer there. I have deleted the note.--Officer781 (talk) 12:13, 4 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Colour

edit

The colour which is currently used, black, is incorrect, is every official military documentations the colour is light blue, black is never used, the colour of the dress uniform is dark blue, and not the same colour of the oficial rank depictions. Official documents show the ranks as a simple navy blue colour, which is very different from the light blue gradient insignia shown on the template, making them arguably more wrong than the black ranks. Since it could be argued that the black ranks much more closer to the real insignia, than the blue ones. Skjoldbro (talk) 13:11, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Apart from the picture shown above, here are two other pictures showing the uniform of the Netherlands Navy [1] [2], without a doubt, clearly looking more like the black insignia than the shaded light blue. Skjoldbro (talk) 11:17, 13 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
That is not a proper reason, that a colour looking similar to black of used on an uniform does not mean that that is the colour on which the rank is shown, if you say that you can use black because a uniform looks like black, you can also use white or khaki, you can even use green, it is not correct, I wil not change it back just now because a change-war is pointless. I will try to change the colour to a slightly more darker shade so everyone is happy. Waterstofgas (talk) 11:54, 15 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well that is not really what I am saying, I just saying that the colour is so close to being black that I, for one, can not tell the difference, and that the minor difference could be negligible. But if you feel like there is a big visible difference, then fair enough. However, you cannot say that when looking at the two different insignia    , that the second one is more accurate in colour and generally looks more like this, than the first one. As a final reply i must say that you are right, i was focusing to much on the official pages, because there they are indeed stated in a lighter shade of blue, however, this colour is never used within the dutch navy, the dark blue colour is indeed the colour used on almost all uniforms, and your version is much closer to the real colour, so i want to give you my apologizes for severely wasting your time and want to thank you for your efforts. And I have a final question for you, could you make similar colour changes to the sub-officers rank page? Waterstofgas (talk) 11:29, 22 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
That is alright, I properly didn't explain it very well, and might have come off aggressive. So no problem. I have made the change for the sub-officers ranks as well. Skjoldbro (talk) 09:57, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
