Changes

edit

I've just reverted a few changes, because I'm not sure what they were designed to achieve. A few edit summaries would help. I'm not in favour of hard-coding any styles, so would oppose these. Can't comment on the rest yet. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:12, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

No contact times??

edit

Why are the contact times not shown? Tom Ruen (talk) 14:23, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Tomruen: They’re there, just in a collapsible list. It keeps the Infobox as small as possible; many infoboxes fall victim to article-breaking overbloating and I didn’t want this one to be too long as well. I think it’s a good compromise between infobox size and retention of essential information. People who really want to view the times can expand the list by clicking on “show”. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 14:43, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately the [show] button is in an unexpected place and I don't see it at all unless I know its there. Contact times are much more important than durations. Tom Ruen (talk) 16:06, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

p.s. Can you suppress u1,u2,u3,u4 for penumbral eclipses? Tom Ruen (talk) 16:09, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Tomruen: I've made previous attempts in the past to make suppresed parameters work with the current collapsed {{Infobox}} setup, but there was no positive result. I've gone ahead and made an inquiry about it at the village pump. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 02:28, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I uncollapsed the times. I suspect that, as an eclipse approaches, that vast majority of people are reading the article to find out "what time do I go outside?" Now, it's not as important for eclipses in the past or distant future, so I suppose we could base the collapsed state on {{CURRENTTIMESTAMP}}, but I don't see the point. It only takes up a tiny amount of space. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 16:48, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Duration format

edit

The template documentation specifies the format for the durations of totality &c as "formatted in worded minutes and seconds. For example, 102 minutes, 50 seconds". This isn't consistent with the mixed units guidelines in [1]. There is a specific IAU format suggested as acceptable for Astronomy; shouldn't the template specify this, or one of the agreed formats, e.g. "XX min XX s"? — samt | talk 15:58, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
