Edit request from Meetpatel4u, 6 November 2010

{{edit semi-protected}} Robert e lee was a general for the northern army

Meetpatel4u (talk) 21:49, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Not done You've haven't said what you want done to the page. Inka888 23:31, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Marking the template as done

Previously, the template said to not link back to the template, but instead to put "tlf" in front of the template. {{edit semi-protected}} to {{tlf|edit semi-protected}} Now the article says to add an unnamed parameter which says "done" {{edit semi-protected|done}} Unfortunately, a recent edit broke this and dumped multiple "done" templates back into the edit requested category. I think the template should say to just change the template request into a link to the template or something, so that any further changes to the template won't again accidentally dump multiple pages back into the requested edit category. We don't need to compile a list of every page that has ever had a semi-protected edit request, which is basically what's happening by keeping an active template with a "done" parameter. Banaticus (talk) 21:13, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

LOL! I noticed the same thing you did just now. Attempting to fix in the sandbox and testcase Subpages, but Unfortunately, I have to leave for work now, and will not be able to fix. – Ajltalk 21:37, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, we are still discussing this over at Template talk:Edit protected. It was me that suggested using |fulfilled=yes instead of just "done". But I didn't realise that "done" was already in use for the past 3 days. So I've made it so that either will work for now and when we have decided the best option, I'll go round and clean up. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:39, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
I noticed a lot (10-20) showed up in the edit requested category and I manually template linked the ones that I came across. Don't know if all of the "|done" cases got taken care of, since MSGJ re-edited the template. – Ajltalk 05:33, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Implement Change?

I would suggest implementing another change so that we can set the fulfilled param to "notdone" or "notnow" or "not a request" or something similar. It would be useful for requests like this and this. If this has already been discussed, forgive me. – Ajltalk 06:44, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that might be a good idea. May I suggest that we discuss it on Template talk:Edit protected to keep all the discussion in one place. In fact I'd like to merge these two templates some day. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:52, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

  Resolved

It seems when using the "Submit an edit request" button (example:[1] ), does not generate a new section header, which ends up being added to the last section on the talk page hosting the request. It seems to me it would be an almost "no brainer" to have a new section header generated when the request is posted. Mlpearc (open channel) 19:43, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

It seems you're talking about Template:Submit an edit request. It looks like the section title got lost in the recent edit that converted it from a link into a button.   Fixed Anomie 20:12, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Please, change the nationality of Oleksiy Oliynyk -- to only Ukrainian, prooflinks see below.

Explanation of vandalism from Russian readers of Wikipedia: As you know, Ukraine has a war against Russa by now. And Russa makes efforts to attack Ukraine not only with its army, but in informational area as well, transforming everything Ukrainian into Russian or at least partly Russian.

The interview you are quoting is over 3 months old - if was waiting for citizenship then, he may have it by now, so this is not acceptable. - Arjayay (talk) 15:08, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

1) How about the difference between citizenship and nationality? Citizenship may change, but nationality is one for a lifetime. For example, I have the citizenship of another country, but I have always been Ukrainian and I will be Ukrainian.

2) You quoted on citizenship and did not pay attention to Oleynik's interview, where he clearly says that he is Ukrainian. Please, comment why you did not pay attention to the Oleynik's words that he is Ukrainian?

3) Please, pay attention that there are a lot evidences that Oleinik is Ukrainian, but there is no evidence that he is Russian (except the overwhelming desire of Russians readers to make him Russian). I specified clear evidences of his Ukrainian nationaliti, including his own words about himself that he is Ukrainian. Please, specify the evidence that Oleinik is Russian. Can we make this template... shorter?

It's so long I don't think the average editor reads it. Feels like the template forgets the target audience: non-Wikipedians, most of whom want to submit a short edit request and aren't motivated to read a ton of words to do it. Some of the info here is repeated (here or in the preload) or unnecessary I think. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 05:26, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Is this template necessary?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this template for use by new editors who are unable to edit semi-protected articles? I think it would be better for them to propose a change on the talk page or AN. It's not as if they won't be able to edit the article after making a few edits. The overwhelming majority of semi-edit requests I have seen are requests to change the political position of Nazism from right-wing to left-wing. TFD (talk) 13:32, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

HTML id="editsemiprotected"

I am making a user script, and I was having trouble mass targeting this template's HTML elements in JQuery because it uses id="editsemiprotected" instead of a class. This leads to problems when there are multiple unanswered edit requests on the same page. id is only intended to target one element at a time. Would somebody be willing to adjust the code to add a class="unanswered" to unanswered edit requests? The code that needs to be changed is Module:Protected edit request/active, around line 562. We should probably leave id for backwards compatibility, and just add the class I mentioned. Thanks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:00, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

Template documentation/instruction needs to be clearer(!!)

The use instructions in this template documentation are very imprecise, and they do are unhelpful to a user that's never used it before; which might be one of the major reasons that so many edit requests by newbies are unparsable, and are responded to with boilerplate "Not done" responses.

Specifically:

  • Place [this template] on the talk page - Where on the talk page, and how? Do we start a new section and put the template in the subject? In the body, with a blank subject? Do we edit the last thread and add the template to the bottom? This should be made clear in the documentation.
  • Next, where is the text describing the request placed? Below the template? NEXT to the template? INSIDE the template, following a pipe | symbol?

Forgive me if I'm simply dumb, and all of this actually is made clear in these instructions...Please keep in mind, all bye editors that have been editing since the dawn of time, that if editing had been as nuanced and difficult back then as it is now, and if the environment were as hostile to n00bies as it is now, the chances of you still being here would be a lot lower.
