... that an undersea volcanic eruption (pictured) which produced a pumice raft covering approximately 10,000 square miles (26,000 km²), was not discovered until several weeks had passed?

Good to go; length and date OK, hook fact is referenced. I would probably change the last bit of the hook to "several weeks later" but that's all. BigDom (talk) 12:47, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
