Removal of Merge template edit

I have removed the Merge template: {{Merge|Self preservation|date=August 2008}}. I would like to see this article expanded and perhaps the Self preservation article merged into this one, with a Redirect placed on the Self preservation page. I have added a See also section showing how the concept of a will to live goes at least as far back as Schopenhauer, and that this concept has had an enormous impact upon psychology and psychoanalysis.  .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`.  18:02, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Seconded, I am going to carry out the suggestion above. Comicreader13 (talk) 10:05, 24 September 2017 (UTC)Comicreader13Reply

Page quality and layout edit

This article needs to be improved by an expert in philosophy (particularly, in Schopenhauer). The distinction between the will to life and the instinct of self-preservation must be drawn more clearly. 62.253.69.202 (talk) 09:29, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Title change edit

As I suggested within my last edit, the title should be "will to life", and not "will to live" by analogy with Nietzsche's "will to power", Frankl's "will to meaning", the Freudian "will to pleasure" etc (i.e. the verb should be nominalised). This also elimimates the common confusion with the concept of self-preservation. 62.253.69.202 (talk) 09:36, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

The introduction is a bit of a mess edit

Saw that the intro was edited in 2020 from the previous one, the new intro not only did not provide any citations, added some confusing statements on the matter, but it also seems to contradict the rest of the article.

The intro says the will to live has nothing to do with will to survive but that’s pretty much what the entire article is about. I do not know much about this concept so I cannot contribute much, but someone who’s more versed in the overall idea should either edit the intro or article or both.86.6.126.71 (talk) 23:49, 8 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I’ve attempted to clean up at least the intro a bit to make it more concise, readable and (hopefully) accurate. There’s still the issue that the intro sort of contradicts the body of the article but I’m not too sure how to amend that.86.6.126.71 (talk) 00:39, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Split the article please. Into Will to live (philosophy) and will to live (whatever this article is) 2A02:3037:6E0:5DBB:ED5F:89EE:7A35:AF16 (talk) 18:40, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
