UrbanBaby was a pioneering mom board, succeeded by YouBeMom, Dcurbanmom, and other similar sites. Major newspapers covered the sociological phenomenon of anonymous mom boards which reflected the mindset of mothers who struggled with isolation and lack of support, including, in some cases, mothers who enjoyed extreme privilege. One successor, Dcurbanmom.com, was the subject of a Brookings Institution study which parsed 400,000 messages on the site and concluded that privileged parents tended to choose segregated schools.
