Copyright problem removed

This article has been revised as part of a large-scale clean-up project of multiple article copyright infringement. (See the investigation subpage.) Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: https://web.archive.org/web/20101115082118/http://www.uhwo.hawaii.edu/elementary_ed and other cited sources. Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.)

For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, and, if allowed under fair use, may copy sentences and phrases, provided they are included in quotation marks and referenced properly. The material may also be rewritten, providing it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Therefore, such paraphrased portions must provide their source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:50, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Conflict of interest

Some contributors to this article appear to have a close connection to the university, and thus to have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking where it says "click here" on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:53, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Request edit on 1 August 2019

Requesting edit because of a conflict of interest -- I am employed in the Communications Department of UH West Oʻahu. I decided to provide an updated version of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Hawaiʻi%E2%80%93West_Oʻahu to correct inaccurate or outdated information. I also was dissatisfied that the article didn't do fully describe the school, and after watching little change in the article for two years, decided to take on the writing myself.

The problems included:

  • Outdated URL for the school’s website in the infobox. (corrected There's also an inaccuracy in listing David Lassner as president. He is president of the UH System, not UH West Oahu. But I was unable get the template to accept these changes;|-
  • Weak lead section that doesn't fully describe school (expanded to include new information in the article)
  • No History section as is recommended by Wikipedia: College and university article advice (added)
  • Academics section was incomplete and featured old information (rewritten to better explain academic offerings, table added);
  • Added Distance Learning subsection into Academics section because this is a significant offering at UH West Oahu, table added too;
  • Accreditation section added to flesh out who and when accredits school, program accreditation added;
  • Admission and Tuition information added with table;
  • Student section added to better describe who attends UH West Oahu;
  • Clubs and Organizations section expanded to better explain types of clubs and organizations;
  • Alumni Section added along with list of notable alumni;
  • Campus overview section included information that was either wrong (UH West Oahu does not have lowest tuition in nation), or moved elsewhere. This was replaced with information about campus' physical plant;
  • Incomplete list of Chancellors has been expanded with full list;
  • Incomplete and outdated information about Recognition and Awards has been expanded with newer and more significant rankings list.

Please excuse any missteps - this is my first time editing Wikipedia and I've taken the existing article and corrected and expanded it to bring it more in line with Wikipedia's College and university article advice. I've tried to stay objective as possible and have provided sourcing for almost every sentence, with some sentences carrying two or more citations. 3Kapolei (talk) 00:22, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

   Edit request declined

  1. The edit request relies heavily on sources published by the University, with no less than 58% of the sources being self-published. A better percentage would be < 30%.
  2. The edit request also contains several references to Wikipedia and LinkedIn.
  3. The COI editor is asked to reformulate the proposed text so that it includes a wider selection of references originating from reliable, WP:SECONDARY sources unconnected to the University. Special care should also be taken to remove all references to Wikipedia, per WP:WINARS.
  4. The COI editor is invited to resubmit the request at their earliest convenience once these changes are made.
